Mayorkas Ignores All Warnings About the Venezuelan Killer Gangs

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) told Rachel Campos-Duffy on FOX and Friends this morning that GOP lawmakers warned Mayorkas about the crime risk of Venezuelan gang members into the country. Mayorkas couldn’t care less and never responded back. As Nehls said‚ everything Trump said was right. Rep. Nehls mentioned the murder of Laken Riley at the […] The post Mayorkas Ignores All Warnings About the Venezuelan Killer Gangs appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

WWII Love Letters Unsealed to Celebrate Couple’s Would-Be 80th Wedding Anniversary

Hundreds of letters penned between a WWII soldier and the love of his life have been unsealed at the University of Maryland. In 1941‚ U.S. Army soldier Harry Lund was stationed at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth. Having no one at home to write to‚ he sent a letter to a magazine editor asking if they could set him up with a pen pal. The editor had a woman living in Chicago named Zilphia reach out to him. Little did Harry know‚ she would become his wife. YouTube “They were just kids starting to learn about life as well as learn about love‚” said Gregory Curtis‚ head of special collections and projects at the university’s Fogler Library. Over the course of the war‚ the couple sent each other over 400 letters. Most of the correspondences were simply about their daily lives. Over the months‚ they got to know each other well‚ and while Gregory believes Harry “fell for her before she fell for him‚” they both slowly fell into mutual love. YouTube “We always see these dramatic war movies‚ and you know‚ the dangers that are there‚” he continued. “But for a lot of folks like this‚ there was a lot of just day-to-day loneliness and drudgery. And those letters from pen pals‚ loved ones‚ were very much helpful in getting through that daily grind. The WWII-Era Couple Donated Their Love Letters in the 1970s Harry and Zilphia‚ or “Zizzie‚” as he called her‚ said‚ “I do in 1943.” They moved to Portland‚ Maine‚ had children‚ and lived a typical‚ quiet‚ life. In the 1970s‚ the Lunds sent their WWII love letters to the University of Maine with the stipulation that they must remain sealed until their 80th wedding anniversary on September 18‚ 2023. The two have since passed away‚ but the university honored their wish. The letters are now on display inside the campus library. Harry and Zilphia never explained why they wanted to put their letters on display‚ nor did they say why they wanted to wait until their 80th anniversary. But Gregory believes it has something to do with the couple wanting to keep a lost way of life alive. YouTube “There was very much a sense of your duty to do what you did for the country‚” he shared. “And so maybe there was still that feeling of duty for the future generations.” You can read the WWII love letters here. Top government health chief declares 'long COVID' doesn't really exist‚ study finds flu impairs more people in the long term

A new study has found that the post-viral effects of COVID-19 are no worse than other respiratory illnesses‚ such as the flu. The study's author – a top government health official in Australia's state of Queensland – declared that it is time to retire the "long COVID" term because it is harmful and misleading. Dr. John Gerrard is Queensland's Chief Health Officer‚ a leading infectious disease specialist‚ and previously was the Director of Infectious Diseases at the Gold Coast Hospital. Gerrard is also the lead author of a recent study that found the post-viral effects of COVID-19 to be equal to or even less severe than other respiratory illnesses. "We believe it is time to stop using terms like 'long Covid.' They wrongly imply there is something unique and exceptional about longer-term symptoms associated with this virus‚" Gerrard proclaimed. "This terminology can cause unnecessary fear‚ and in some cases‚ hypervigilance to longer symptoms that can impede recovery."The study examined 5‚112 adults who had symptoms of a respiratory illness and underwent PCR testing between May and June 2022. Of those individuals‚ 2‚399 tested positive for COVID-19‚ while 995 tested positive for influenza‚ and 1‚718 tested negative for both.A year after their PCR tests‚ the participants in the study were asked about ongoing symptoms. Of the respondents‚ 16% said they felt ongoing symptoms a year later‚ and 3.6% reported moderate-to-severe impairment. In fact‚ the people who were infected with the flu had a higher rate of impairments a year later‚ according to the study. According to the progressive outlet The Guardian‚ "The 3% of the study participants who had ongoing impairments after COVID-19 infection was similar to the 3.4% with ongoing impairments after influenza."The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported‚ "Dr. Gerrard said 94 percent of participants who reported the moderate to severe level of functional limitations experienced fatigue‚ post-exertion symptom exacerbation‚ brain fog and changes to taste and smell a year after their infection."Gerrard will present the study next month at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Barcelona. "Our evidence suggests that there isn't‚ that it is not dissimilar to other viruses‚" Gerrard declared. "That does not mean that you can't get these persistent symptoms following COVID-19‚ but you're no more likely to get it after COVID than with other respiratory viruses."Gerrard emphasized‚ "But in the vast majority of people‚ recovery is the norm."Gerrard said during a Friday press conference‚ "I want to make it clear that the symptoms that some patients described after having COVID-19 are real‚ and we believe they are real. What we are saying is that the incidence of these symptoms is no greater in COVID-19 than it is with other respiratory viruses‚ and that to use this term 'long COVID' is misleading and I believe harmful."Like Blaze News? Federal authorities are investigating Meta for possible role in illicit drug sales on Facebook: Report

US prosecutors in Virginia are investigating Meta Platforms — the parent company of Facebook and Instagram — for potentially playing a role in facilitating illegal drug sales on their platforms‚ according to the New York Post. The report mentioned that the prosecutors have already issued subpoenas and started questioning Meta about whether it has enabled and profited from illicit drug sales on its platform. Prosecutors have also requested records related to "violative drug content on Meta's platforms and/or the illicit sale of drugs via Meta's platforms."The Food and Drug Administration is reportedly helping with the investigation‚ according to people familiar with the situation. However‚ investigations like this do not always end in formal charges of wrongdoing‚ but what has been brought up is enough for the prosecutors to take a serious look.A spokesperson for Meta said that [t]he sale of illicit drugs is against our policies and we work to find and remove this content from our services."“Meta proactively cooperates with law enforcement authorities to help combat the sale and distribution of illicit drugs.”The Wall Street Journal reported that on Friday‚ Nick Clegg‚ Meta's president of global affairs‚ joined the State Department's efforts to crack down on the sale of synthetic drugs online and educate users about the serious risks involved in it.Clegg wrote the following on X on Friday: "The opioid epidemic is a major public health issue that requires action from all parts of US society. That’s why @Meta has joined the Alliance to Prevent Drug Harms alongside the @StateDept @UNODC &; @Snapchat to help disrupt the sale of synthetic drugs online + educate users about the risks." — (@) Social media companies have recently come under fire from members of Congress for distributing content that has ultimately harmed young people‚ specifically children‚ per the report.Lawmakers have been actively holding talks about the need to hold massive technology companies accountable for what third parties share on their platforms. However‚ these efforts have been hampered by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act‚ which states that online platforms are not liable for what third parties post to their platforms. There are only a few exceptions to this rule. The Post reported that during the COVID-19 pandemic‚ telehealth companies exploited Facebook and Instagram by advertising prescription drugs for the treatment of ADHD‚ anxiety‚ and other medical conditions. The advertisements ultimately led to the abuse of controlled substances such as Adderall‚ per the report.Like Blaze News?
