Two new AirPods 4 models might be released later this year

Apple is poised to release not one‚ but two next-gen versions of its popular AirPods this coming fall‚ according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. What’s particularly interesting is that production on Apple’s fourth-gen AirPods will be in the 20 million to 25 million range. This marks a sizable increase from previous production runs. With respect to the increased production‚ Gurman notes that it’s shaping up to be a “record-setting run.” Specifically‚ the AirPods 4 models will be part of Apple’s strategy to boost its presence in the lower end of the market. If this is indeed Apple’s goal‚ one would expect to see a price cut on at least one of the AirPods 4 models. As a frame of reference‚ the current AirPods 3 retails for $179. Apple last released a revamped AirPods model back in October of 2021‚ so the timing for the rumored AirPods 4 release certainly fits. AirPods 4 features It will certainly be interesting to see what new features AirPods 4 brings to the table. After all‚ Apple does need to keep some differentiation between the entry-level AirPods and AirPods Pro. Recall‚ AirPods 3 incorporated some AirPods Pro features‚ including spatial audio‚ a boost in battery life‚ and improved water resistance. Of course‚ the key difference between AirPods and AirPods Pro has long been noise cancellation. That‚ however‚ is poised to change with AirPods 4. Gurman writes: The new models will replace the second- and third-generation AirPods. The updated versions are codenamed B768(E) and B768(M)‚ with the E representing “entry” and the M standing for “mid-tier.” Both will have a new design‚ improved fit and charging cases with USB-C‚ but the mid-tier version will get active noise cancellation and Find My speakers in the case‚ making it easier to locate the product if it gets lost. What’s more‚ some software enhancements for AirPods are also in the works. One such feature is a hearing aid mode that we discussed just last week. With noise-cancellation coming to AirPods 4‚ it remains to be seen what Apple will add to its next-gen AirPods Pro. After all‚ Apple certainly doesn't want to drive potential AirPods Pro users to its AirPods 4 line. To this end‚ don’t expect a brand new iteration of AirPods Pro anytime soon. According to several reports‚ a refresh isn’t slated to occur until 2025 at the earliest. This shouldn’t be surprising given that AirPods Pro 2 hit stores in September of 2022‚ which was a full three years after the release of the original AirPods Pro. MM1: Everything we know about Apple’s AI model coming to iOS 18

Ahead of the announcement of iOS 18‚ which is expected to be packed with AI features‚ Apple researchers published a paper highlighting how they're training a new large language model (LLMs). Called MM1‚ this LLM can integrate text and visual information as one. The paper was submitted last week and offers an interesting look at the importance of various architectural components and data choices. The researchers say they were able to "demonstrate that for large-scale multimodal pre-training using a careful mix of image-caption‚ interleaved image-text‚ and text-only data is crucial for achieving state-of-the-art (SOTA) few-shot results across multiple benchmarks‚ compared to other published pre-training results." In addition‚ they showed that "the image encoder together with image resolution and the image token count has a substantial impact‚ while the vision-language connector design is of comparatively negligible importance." Apple's MM1 AI model uses a family of multimodal models with up to 30B parameters‚ consisting of both dense models and mixture-of-experts (MoE) variants‚ that are SOTA in pre-training metrics and achieve competitive performance after supervised fine-tuning on a range of established multimodal benchmarks. Apple's AI features could include Google's or OpenAI's functions Image source: José Adorno for BGR Apple has teased its AI applications for almost a year now. In the past two earning calls‚ the company's CEO has said they have many features to announce. More interestingly‚ while Apple has been publishing papers and teasing upcoming AI features‚ Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared that Apple is also in talks to use Google Gemini with iOS 18. Apple is apparently in talks with Google to license Gemini after having previously considered OpenAI’s ChatGPT. While there’s no telling if Apple will partner with Google‚ the move isn’t necessarily surprising. Gemini already powers generative AI features on the Pixel 8 and the Galaxy S24. The latter certainly made an impression earlier this year. One of the Galaxy S24’s highlights comes from Google. That said‚ there's a lot to expect from Apple. BGR will make sure to let you know about all the company's upcoming AI features. Don't Miss: Some iPhone AI features might be powered by Google Gemini or ChatGPT The post MM1: Everything we know about Apple’s AI model coming to iOS 18 appeared first on BGR. New leak claims 12.9-inch iPad Air is nothing but a dream

Ahead of the launch of the new iPad Air and OLED iPad Pro‚ a leaker suggests that the larger Air model we're all expecting isn't going to be announced. According to X user ShrimpApplePro‚ who has a good track record‚ his trusted source has only seen one size of next-gen iPad Air: the 10.9-inch model. With that in mind‚ ShrimApplePro believes that a larger iPad Air might not be released at all. Although the leaker might have put a damper on this exciting new model‚ he thinks this tablet will have one significant change: A new landscape selfie camera. https://x.com/VNchocoTaco/status/1769727515453800930?s=20 With these tablets almost ready to be announced‚ it's interesting that ShrimpApplePro says there might not be a larger iPad Air model. At least since last October‚ it has been reported that Apple has been working on a larger version of this tablet. 9to5Mac's Filipe Espósito said these iPad Airs models had identifiers J507 and J508 in addition to a J537 and J538. Then‚ a few weeks ago‚ 91mobile shared the CADs of this larger model‚ which shows Apple indeed worked on them. Nonetheless‚ Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also corroborated this leak‚ suggesting Apple could release a larger iPad Air. Apple was right if the larger iPad Air project was canceled Image source: Christian de Looper for BGR Although I understand the appeal of a larger iPad Air‚ I think it would be better if Apple ended up not releasing it since it might affect sales of a larger iPad Pro. One of its most significant selling points is the larger display. If it's available on a cheaper model‚ even lacking ProMotion and other fancy technologies‚ this might make people choose the iPad Air to save a hundred dollars to spend on other accessories or higher storage‚ for example. That said‚ even if the iPad Air doesn't feature a larger model‚ Apple is expected to add the M2 chip‚ the landscape selfie camera‚ and‚ most likely‚ support for Cupertino's newest Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil accessories.
