Elite Heaven or Real Hell on Earth?

The horrific murder of Laken Riley by repeated felony offender and illegal alien Jose Ibarra‚ 26‚ a Venezuelan citizen‚ was preventable—had federal immigration laws simply been enforced by the Biden administration. When called out in his recent State of the Union address‚ President Joe Biden referenced the deceased Riley. But Biden misidentified her as “Lincoln Riley”—the USC football coach! Biden only accurately noted that she “was killed by an ‘illegal.'” True—but almost immediately the Left was infuriated over Biden’s accurate use of the supposedly insensitive “illegal” for the murderer Ibarra. Biden soon apologized for correctly identifying her killer as an illegal alien—but not for misidentifying the victim. He left the callous impression that he was more upset about offending his open-borders base than about the savage beating of a young 22-year-old American nursing student. Biden’s woke open-borders agenda supersedes any worry over the subsequent mounting number of Americans who have fallen victim to foreign gangs and criminals. He seems oblivious to the nearly 100‚000 Americans who die from fentanyl imported across open borders. The same idea of abstract humanity juxtaposed with concrete callousness toward humans characterizes much of the current leftist agenda. The Biden administration envisions mandating the use of electric vehicles and banning natural gas appliances. These measures will supposedly help “save” the planet—even as they make life far more expensive and dangerous for the middle class and poor in the here and now. We are told that biologically born males who transition to females have a civil right to compete in female sports. Such transgender activism may sound compassionate in the abstract. Yet in the concrete‚ thousands of women are put in danger by competing against the much larger musculoskeletal frames and natural strength of transitioning males. Moreover‚ tens of thousands of young female athletes are losing opportunities to excel and set records—thus destroying over a half-century of women’s efforts to reach parity with men’s sports. In 2021‚ United Airlines President Scott Kirby bragged that his company was now devoted to ensuring that 50% of all trained pilots would be either people of color or women. The Federal Aviation Administration had similar diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion mandates for hiring air traffic controllers. In 2023‚ Boeing bragged that it was using “inclusion” as a criterion for executive compensation. Pay from now on would be calibrated in large part on the success of hiring new employees on the basis of their race‚ gender‚ and sexual orientation. In the abstract‚ ensuring that air travel “looks like America” is no doubt a noble goal. But if such subordination of meritocracy is canonized without proper attention to the only criterion that really matters—the safety of the nearly 3 million American airline passengers who take 45‚000 flights per day—lives will be needlessly lost. Some data and recent anecdotal evidence suggest that something has now gone dangerously wrong with the entire airline industry. In January 2023‚ thousands of domestic flights were canceled or delayed because of a series of Federal Aviation Administration computer failures. Over the last 10 years‚ near-crashes and collisions of commercial places have more than doubled. Even scarier‚ in the last two weeks alone‚ United Airlines suffered numerous near-catastrophic events that may have involved crew lapses‚ air traffic controller errors‚ or problems with Boeing jet construction or maintenance—or all three. Specific details have mysteriously been kept from the public. A United flight from San Francisco to Mexico had to make an emergency landing due to failing hydraulics. Another United flight bound for San Francisco from Sydney‚ Australia‚ had to turn around due to a “maintenance issue.” Yet another flight out of Chicago O’Hare International Airport likewise suffered undisclosed “maintenance issues” and returned home. At Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport‚ a United plane simply taxied off the runway and got stuck in the grass. Another United flight from San Francisco lost a wheel while taking off! Yet another United flight from Houston to Florida was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines caught fire. At about the same time‚ a United flight bound for San Francisco from Hawaii experienced an engine failure in mid-flight. Dozens were injured on a Boeing jet during a Chilean airline flight from Australia to New Zealand due to what officials called “a technical event during the flight which caused a strong movement.” Anytime ideology and dogma trump merit‚ logic‚ and safety‚ the result is predictably scary and dangerous. America needs to recalibrate its priorities to protect the lives and aspirations of all its citizens‚ regardless of their race and gender. If our elites do not stop playing god and mandating their visions of heaven on earth‚ then they will surely ensure hell for us all. (C)2024 Tribune Content Agency‚ LLC. Schumer Suggests Senate May Be Slow to Consider TikTok Bill

Schumer Suggests Senate May Be Slow to Consider TikTok Bill

Although the House passed legislation Wednesday that would force the sale of Chinese-owned social media app TikTok‚ Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer‚ D-N.Y.‚ quickly signaled that the upper chamber may slow consideration of the bill. The legislation was approved by a rare bipartisan and unanimous vote March 7 in the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The House then moved at breakneck speed to pass‚ by a 352-65 vote‚ the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. The bill was introduced by Reps. Mike Gallagher‚ R-Wis.‚ and Raja Krishnamoorthi‚ D-Ill. The legislation would force a Chinese company‚ ByteDance‚ to divest from the TikTok app if it is to continue operating in the United States because of concerns about the massively popular social media company’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party. Critics argue that TikTok gathers data on Americans for the CCP and that the social media app has been linked to addiction.  The version of TikTok that China allows in its own country “serves children at-home science experiments‚ museum exhibits‚ patriotism videos‚ and educational videos‚” Carrie Sheffield‚ a senior fellow at Women’s Independent Voice‚ wrote in an op-ed published Sunday in the New York Post. Schumer‚ the Senate’s top Democrat‚ has expressed concerns with TikTok in the past. “A U.S. company should buy TikTok so everyone can keep using it and your data is safe‚” Schumer posted on X‚ formerly Twitter‚ in 2020. “This is about privacy. With TikTok in China‚ it’s subject to Chinese Communist Party laws that may require handing over data to their government. A safe way must be found for TikTok to continue.” But comments made by the New York Democrat before and after passage of the House bill suggest he isn’t too eager to send the legislation to President Joe Biden’s desk for him to sign into law. “I’ll have to consult‚ and intend to consult‚ with my relevant committee chairmen to see what their views would be‚” Schumer told reporters Tuesday before the House vote‚ according to NBC News. The Senate majority leader seemed fairly noncommittal after the House vote‚ too. “The Senate will review the legislation when it comes over from the House‚” Schumer said Wednesday‚ giving no timetable for when it might come up for a vote‚ Roll Call reported. “Despite his relish for all things tough-on-China‚ Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer appears poised to take his sweet time advancing the bill—if it advances at all‚” Politico Playbook reported Tuesday This uncertainty has caused proponents of the TikTok bill to criticize the top Senate Democrat. Great‚ so Schumer has supported the divestment of CCP-controlled TikTok since 2020.He’ll bring a bill he’s supported for 4 years to the floor‚ right? Or will it collect dust like almost everything else in the Senate under his control? https://t.co/cfc9xoVrN0— Ryan Walker (@ryanlwalker) March 15‚ 2024 Forcing TikTok to divest from Chinese communist control is common sense. There's no excuse for the Chuck Schumer to slow-walk a vote in the Senate. https://t.co/R38kmLKI6v— Jon Gabriel (@exjon) March 14‚ 2024 China uses Tik Tok to influence our elections &; Schumer’s fine with that.Top intel agency says China used TikTok to influence U.S. elections https://t.co/0nuSPc9IP7— Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle) March 12‚ 2024 TikTok unleashed a massive lobbying campaign to stop passage of the legislation‚ including sending a wave of TikTok influencers to Capitol Hill to support the Chinese-owned company. House lawmakers’ offices were bombarded with phone calls from children and teenagers demanding that TikTok remain as it is. “TikTok fires everybody up and then our offices are getting called with thousands of people calling up‚” said Rep. Chip Roy‚ R-Texas‚ according to Fox Business. “Some kid called in‚ said they were going to commit suicide. We have people calling in saying‚ ‘I’m on this all day long‚ every day. You can’t take this away from me.’ It’s like we called into an AA meeting.” A spokesman for China called the legislation unfair. “The U.S. House of Representatives passing this bill lets the United States stand on the opposite side of the principles of fair competition and international trade rules‚” Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin said‚ according to Reuters. “If so-called national security reasons can be used to willfully suppress other countries’ superior companies‚ there would be no fairness to speak of.” China‚ however‚ has banned U.S. social media companies from operating there. According to an RMG Research poll from December‚ most Americans favor banning TikTok. Have an opinion about this article? US’ Intervention Dilemma as Haiti Descends Into Chaos: The BorderLine

US’ Intervention Dilemma as Haiti Descends Into Chaos: The BorderLine

Haiti‚ a Maryland-sized country sharing half the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic‚ won independence from France in 1804 and since then has been beset by political strife and poverty. Today‚ Haiti has descended into a Hobbesian state of nature‚ in which gang leaders like Jimmy Chérizier‚ aka “Barbecue‚” will fight for control until someone stops them or one of them wins. This month‚ gangs ransacked police stations‚ the airport‚ and public buildings and released hundreds of prisoners from jails. Just last weekend‚ what’s left of Haiti’s government declared an emergency in what seems to be more of a cry for help than notification of any change in circumstances. At the same time‚ the U.S. Embassy evacuated nonessential staff in the dead of night‚ and the unelected prime minister resigned‚ unable to return from a trip abroad. On March 13‚ U.S. Southern Command deployed a Marine Fleet-Anti-terrorism Security Team to support the Marine Security Guard unit permanently assigned to protect U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince. These Marines will protect U.S. facilities and personnel but won’t attempt to restore order outside. While the U.S. has pledged financial support for a U.N. mission to help stabilize security in Haiti‚ the American people are reluctant to lead yet another foreign intervention. Although the effort might keep the peace and temporarily earn the gratitude of the Haitian people‚ it would quickly be resented by the U.S. and global Left as neocolonialism. And it might fail outright and result in the loss of American lives and treasure. Haiti’s last president was assassinated in July 2021. After that‚ Ariel Henry was sworn in as interim prime minister with U.S. support. He agreed to hold elections in 2023 and form a new government in February 2024. When he didn’t‚ riots erupted. Meanwhile‚ Guy Philippe‚ a former police chief who helped force out President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004‚ completed a nine-year sentence in U.S. prison for helping Colombian drug smugglers‚ only to return home to contend for power with the likes of Barbecue. As the situation in Haiti unraveled‚ the Biden administration proposed “an inclusive‚ Haitian-intensive-led process to find a broader political consensus around a new transitional government‚” according to the State Department. After a meeting in Jamaica with regional leaders‚ the U.S. supported a “transitional council” to set up elections. This would require not only pacifying or co-opting Haiti’s 300 gangs and various warlords‚ but also finding countries willing to send soldiers and police to do the work. In less squeamish times‚ the U.S. simply took Haiti over. In 1915‚ after Haiti went through seven presidents in five years‚ President Woodrow Wilson sent in the Marines‚ who remained until 1934. From 1957-1986‚ Haiti was under the dictatorship of François “Papa Doc” Duvalier and his son‚ Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier. After a popular uprising overthrew the regime‚ a brief period of democracy followed‚ but things fell apart again in 1991. Back went the U.S. in the 1994 Operation Restore Democracy. That restoration didn’t last long. From 2004 to 2017‚ the United Nations had a stabilization and security mission in Haiti that kept things from boiling over. In 2011‚ there were 12‚500 soldiers and police in Haiti from 50 U.N. member countries. U.S. troops were not there‚ but we paid nearly half of the tab. What did that get us? At minimum‚ it avoided the current lawlessness‚ economic collapse‚ and potentially massive outflows of “boat people” to the U.S. that we saw in the 1980s and 1990s. But it was not a recipe for lasting stability. The U.N. provided security‚ but it could not supply the country or prevent brain drain‚ nor could it cure the corruption‚ endemic poverty‚ and entrenched oligarchy that have kept Haiti stuck in the early stage of development. The U.N.’s reputation was also tarnished with allegations of sexual assault and a cholera outbreak linked to U.N. peacekeepers who killed thousands of Haitians. Now‚ Haiti is back to square one. In 2023‚ gangs killed more than 4‚700 people. Kidnappings for ransom by gangs such as the Kraze Baryè are common. In early 2023‚ a vigilante movement called “bwa kale” (peeled wood) briefly tamped down the gangs by being equally brutal‚ but a few months later‚ the chaos returned. Busy with war in Ukraine‚ Chinese expansionism‚ and the war Hamas started with Israel‚ no one wants to deal with Haiti yet again. So‚ what’s the world to do? Like other presidents before him‚ Joe Biden’s approach so far has been to prop up a weak and unpopular Haitian leader and hope for the best. Former U.S. Special Envoy to Haiti Daniel Foote described backing Ariel Henry as “arrogance and the hubris.” Now‚ with Henry resigning in favor of a “transitional council‚” U.S. options are shrinking‚ and are all bad. In 1969‚ a CIA estimate concluded that should Haiti destabilize after the fall of François Duvalier‚ “the United States would stand to gain nothing through intervention.” That was before the massive migrant outflows of the 1980s and 1990s. This threat looms yet again‚ and the Biden administration‚ given its generally lax approach to immigration‚ seems to be wholly unprepared. Undeterred by past failures‚ last October‚ the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution to authorize a Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti. The Biden administration pledged $200 million to fund it. Kenya offered to send up to 1‚000 police officers to train and assist Haitian police and “protect strategic installations‚” but they put a hold on this after Prime Minister Henry resigned. Even if they eventually agree to go‚ 1‚000 Kenyan cops alone won’t do it. In fiscal year 2021‚ over 46‚000 Haitians were caught trying to cross U.S. borders illegally. Most of these were “asylum shoppers‚” Haitians who had already been living safely elsewhere outside of Haiti but saw the chance under Biden to move to the United States instead. In 2023‚ the official number trying to cross the border was down to 2‚430‚ but they had not really stopped coming. The Biden administration‚ partly to avoid more media nightmares of Haitians huddling under bridges at the border‚ invented a program to let Cubans‚ Haitians‚ Nicaraguans‚ and Venezuelans in the U.S. by abusing immigration parole. Customs and Border Protection data indicates that nearly 160‚000 Haitians came in through parole programs last year and another 80‚000 have come in fiscal year 2024 so far. Many Haitians already in the U.S. illegally benefit from “temporary protected status‚” which shields them from deportation. The White House is reportedly dusting off plans to use the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base detention camp for Haitians caught attempting to enter the U.S. by boat. When Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton used Guantanamo for initial asylum screenings in the early 1990s‚ the camp’s capacity was about 12‚000 people‚ though now it could hold 60‚000. Under the George W. Bush administration in 2004‚ thousands of Haitians attempted to use a “shark visa” to get to America‚ meaning they would leave on tiny‚ unseaworthy boats and hope to make it outside Haiti’s 12-mile territorial waters to be rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. Among the hundreds of thousands of Haitians who crossed into the U.S. under Biden’s parole program or over the open southern border‚ there would surely have been some corrupt government officials‚ criminals‚ and gang members. We don’t know how many‚ because the Department of Homeland Security can’t check all their criminal records back in Haiti or elsewhere. But the exodus also contained a considerable portion of Haiti’s middle class. Up to 40% of health care workers have left in the last few years‚ and more than 1‚600 Haitian police officers left just last year. Putting Haiti-Dumpty back together again without educated professionals will be nearly impossible. The best-case scenario for a new international mission to Haiti would be to reestablish law and order enough to hold an election‚ then hand over power and leave. The whole cycle of political collapse could then repeat itself in a decade. But in the meantime‚ the U.S. could repatriate asylum-seekers‚ end temporary protected status‚ and discontinue the mass parole program benefiting Haiti. That way‚ thousands of educated‚ skilled Haitians could assist in rebuilding their own country. Turns Out Biden Lied About Hur‚ Beau‚ and Why He Pilfered Classified Documents

One of the big takeaways from the newly released transcript of President Joe Biden’s two-day interview with Robert Hur is that the special counsel was being exceedingly generous when describing the president as a “sympathetic‚ well-meaning‚ elderly man with a poor memory.” Much of the conversation with Hur is littered with barely incoherent answers and spiraling word salads. Though‚ the reader is occasionally entertained by Biden’s blowhard-y non sequiturs. We learn about Biden’s Corvette—twice. We learn that the president is a frustrated architect but an excellent archer. Biden even jokes that there might be risque pictures of first lady Jill Biden. Then again‚ the fact that the entire two-day interview isn’t a giant nonsensical rant is not as impressive as his defenders might believe. The president is‚ indeed‚ completely coherent at times. And those are the times he’s probably lying. When Hur released his report last month‚ for example‚ it noted that Biden couldn’t recall the year his son died. This is not the kind of event that typically slips a healthy person’s mind—not even one who is constantly trying to emotionally manipulate the public with misleading claims about the cause of his son’s death. Recall that Biden feigned great anger about this interaction. “There’s even a reference that I don’t remember when my son died‚” he barked at reporters when the report was released. “How in the hell dare he raise that? Frankly‚ when I was asked the question‚ I thought to myself: It wasn’t any of their damn business.” The transcript shows that it was Biden who brought up his late son Beau‚ not Hur. The president claimed he believed Beau had died in 2017 or 2018 when he had tragically died of brain cancer in 2015. Who knows? Maybe Biden forgot what he said? Reading the full context of his answer‚ and considering the president’s lifelong fabulism‚ it is not entirely out of the question that the president purposely floated the wrong date to try and justify his pilfering of classified documents. Either way‚ it’s bad. More importantly‚ Biden also contradicted himself when speaking about the documents themselves. When Hur asked the president about the classified papers in his possession‚ the president contended that he “had no purpose for them‚ and I think it would be inappropriate for me to keep clearly classified documents.” But Hur‚ in his prepared testimony for Congress‚ says: “We also identified other recorded conversations during which Mr. Biden read classified information aloud to his ghostwriter.” So‚ the documents did have a very specific purpose. Those files were used‚ according to Amtrak Joe‚ to help earn $8 million writing a book after leaving the Obama administration. Yet‚ when the Hur report was released‚ the left wing did what they always do when confronted with bad news: They feigned a meltdown. They smeared the messenger. They concocted conspiracy theories. They denied reality. They’re doing the same right now. The media continues to frame Hur’s findings as an exoneration of Biden to head off the (correct) perception that there is a stark‚ selective prosecution when it comes to the hoarding of classified documents. Donald Trump‚ yes. Biden and Hillary Clinton‚ no. In The New York Times‚ Charlie Savage begins the paper’s story on the leaked transcripts by misleading readers with the contention that Hur had found “insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Biden.” This is not true. Hur’s report concluded that Biden came off as too feeble-minded to be convicted by a jury for his decades-long mishandling of classified information. According to the special counsel‚ the president had “willfully retained classified information.” And he had done it for years before winning the presidency. During today’s hearing‚ Democrats falsely used the word “exoneration” a number of times. Hur noted that the word “does not appear anywhere in my report‚ and that is not my conclusion.” COPYRIGHT 2024 CREATORS.COM The Daily Signal publishes a variety of perspectives. USAID’s “Disinformation Primer:” Documents Reveal Censorship Promotion Across Sectors

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties‚ subscribe to Reclaim The Net. The authorities in the US are once again caught red-handed promoting censorship‚ this time via the US Agency for International Development (USAID). USAID is normally used by the US government to spread its influence around the world‚ but now‚ according to documents from a case against the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC)‚ the agency also actively participates in analyzing and spreading various censorship methods. The lawsuit in question was filed by America First Legal (AFL)‚ alleging that the State Department‚ via GEC‚ engages with private media to advance what the non-profit believes is government/private sector censorship and propaganda collusion. Now‚ USAID’s controversial activities have also been exposed thanks to the lawsuit‚ which revealed that one of the agency’s bureaus‚ the Center on Democracy‚ Human Rights‚ and Governance (DRG) has come up with a “Disinformation Primer” – a 97-page document marked as being “for internal use only.” The Disinformation Primer – in fact‚ a censorship primer‚ to sum up the Foundation for Freedom Online watchdog’s interpretation of the strategy – was “up and running” only one month after Joe Biden got sworn in‚ in February 2021. The extensive “primer” seeks to exert influence on how private tech‚ but also media companies can increase the level of existing censorship; the already existing engagement with private entities is at the same time commended by USAID. Other targets‚ more in line with USAID’s overall activities‚ include foreign governments‚ specifically education departments‚ and funding sources. Inevitably‚ more “partners” are NGOs‚ non-profits‚ and think tanks‚ often themselves with ties to the government. Some of the censorship techniques that USAID likes and recommends are Advertiser Outreach‚ which is designed to cut off media and accounts on social platforms from ad revenue‚ if their speech is what’s known as “disfavored” (by those in power). Another is propping up legacy media as these outlets steadily lose trust‚ with things like “prebunking” and the Redirect Method‚ developed by Google‚ which “relies on advertising using an online advertising platform such as Google AdWords‚ targeting tools and algorithms to combat online radicalization that comes from the spread and threat of dangerous‚ misleading information.” One striking quote from the document is that gaming sites and gamers should be prevented from forming “interpretations of the world that differ from ‘mainstream’ sources.” Worth noting is that this censorship‚ propaganda and indoctrination “handbook” – aimed at curtailing citizens’ freedom of expression and thought – was made using taxpayer money. Polish NGO Wins Fight Against Facebook’s Censorship

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties‚ subscribe to Reclaim The Net. SpoÅ‚eczna Inicjatywa Narkopolityki (SIN‚ the Civil Society Drug Policy Initiative) has triumphed over Meta‚ the parent company of Facebook and Instagram‚ securing a verdict that significantly curtails the power of internet platforms to indiscriminately censor user content in Poland. The Polish court’s decision‚ backed by the Panoptykon Foundation‚ a digital rights group‚ establishes a precedent that user blocking must be justified and subject to challenge within the user’s own jurisdiction. The court has directed Meta to reinstate SIN’s previously blocked content and issue a public apology for the unjustified censorship on its platforms. This outcome represents a significant victory for both SIN and Panoptykon‚ marking a critical moment for the protection of online free speech rights. The struggle of these two Polish organizations‚ extending over five years‚ was aimed at ensuring accountability in moderation decisions and the right of wrongfully blocked users to seek redress. SIN‚ known for its work in harm reduction and substance abuse prevention‚ experienced an unanticipated setback in 2018 when Facebook‚ without any clear explanation or prior notice‚ deleted the organization’s pages and groups‚ citing violations of its Community Standards. In a similar move in January 2019‚ one of SIN’s Instagram accounts‚ another platform under Meta‚ was removed. A spokesperson for SIN expressed frustration over the incident‚ stating‚ “Our fanpage was removed without a warning‚ without any explanation why we were being censored and without any indication which content specifically violated the Community Standards. We were also not given the possibility to effectively appeal the ban. Years of our work and memories recorded on this page were at the mercy of corporate whims.” They further emphasized the critical role Facebook played in SIN’s outreach‚ describing the platform as not only a primary communication channel but also a valuable repository of information on harm reduction‚ dependence prevention‚ and specific psychoactive substances. The loss of a fanpage that had accumulated information over seven years significantly impacted SIN’s ability to reach and assist those in need. This case is groundbreaking in Poland‚ being the first to challenge private censorship on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and winning in favor of the organization that was arbitrarily blocked. Panoptykon Foundation lawyer Dorota GÅ‚owacka‚ involved since 2019‚ highlights the court’s clarification that Facebook’s actions of blocking users without a valid reason or the ability to contest such decisions are illegal. She points out that‚ historically‚ attempts to appeal these blockings often seemed futile‚ but this ruling paves the way for fighting private censorship effectively. “The court clearly stated: Facebook cannot block users without any justification and without providing them the possibility to effectively challenge the decision. Such actions are unlawful‚” said GÅ‚owacka. “Until now‚ blocking decisions have often been made arbitrarily and in a non-transparent manner. It has been difficult to contest them in practice. Any attempts to appeal them have seemed rather Kafkaesque. We are hoping that now‚ thanks to this ruling‚ we will no longer be helpless against private censorship.” The ruling‚ however‚ is subject to appeal by Meta.
