Reporter Leaves Out Key Facts in Hit Piece on Libs of TikTok

Vice News published a story last fall asserting that Libs of TikTok‚ the popular social media account run by Chaya Raichik‚ was responsible for a rise in school bomb threats. The reporter‚ Tess Owen‚ wrote that “bomb threats targeting schools or school districts following Libs of TikTok posts appears to be a particularly ominous escalation.” She then cited a “disturbing pattern” from 11 school districts. Newly obtained emails‚ released Thursday by Raichik‚ suggest that Owen wasn’t completely truthful in her reporting. In a post on X‚ Libs of TikTok claimed Vice News and Owen “knowingly withheld critical information about me because it didn’t fit their narrative.” BREAKING: We obtained emails that @VICENews sent to a MN school district where they asked if Libs of TikTok posts resulted in threats. The district responded stating they had "no information linking this b*mb threat to the Libs of TikTok messaging." How did Vice report on it?… pic.twitter.com/5tx47n9BuM— Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) March 14‚ 2024 In her Oct. 4‚ 2023‚ story‚ Owen wrote: Anoka-Hennepin School District in Minnesota was targeted in Libs of TikTok posts on September 13 and 14. They received a bomb threat by email on September 15. The district’s director of communications Jim Skelly told VICE News that it was unusual for the district to receive threats directly by email such as this one. This was the second direct threat that the district‚ which is Minnesota’s largest‚ received in the last two years. More commonplace threats usually come from students or are made via social media and are quickly processed as “non-credible” by law enforcement‚ said Skelly. The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project obtained copies of Owen’s correspondence with Anoka-Hennepin School District and Raichik released them Thursday. (The Daily Signal is Heritage’s news outlet.) Owen neglected to reveal two key details Skelly told her‚ according to their Sept. 28‚ 2023‚ email exchange. “The district did receive a ‘threat’ via email on Sept. 15 which was quickly determined to be non-credible by law enforcement.” “The district has no information linking this bomb threat to the Libs of TikTok messaging.” Yet despite these omissions‚ Owen wrote Thursday on X that “I stand by my reporting. And I recommend imagining a world in which email was not the only way to communicate.” Owen didn’t explain why she neglected to include the information Skelly provided. Mike Howell‚ the Oversight Project’s executive director‚ called Owen’s story part of a “coordinated media campaign which is viciously attacking Chaya Raichik.” “So-called journalists are implicating her in crimes and driving hate mobs her way‚” Howell told The Daily Signal. “A major problem for them is that they’re wrong‚ but I suspect they already know that. The emails we uncovered show that Tess Owen was clearly and directly told that the school district in question had no information linking the bomb threat to Libs of TikTok. Tess Owen omitted that exculpatory evidence from her article.” Owen was laid off last month when Vice Media made significant personnel cuts and ceased publishing on Vice.com. CNN Tries to Emotionally Blackmail Democrat into Backing Ceasefire

In a discussion about the war in Gaza Thursday morning‚ CNN This Morning co-host Sara Sidner attempted to emotionally blackmail Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL) into agreeing with the pro-Palestinian calls for immediate ceasefire while Hamas still retained hundreds of hostages‚ including Americans. Sidner led into the discussion pitting Vice President Kamala Harris’s call for “immediate ceasefire” against President Biden’s pro-Israel stance‚ in an attempt to show Schultz that the administration was as divided on this issue as the rest of America. “There is confusion I think a little bit of the administration’s stance on a ceasefire. We heard from Vice President Kamala Harris‚ who came out very forcefully and publicly saying an immediate ceasefire needs to happen‚ right now‚” she said.     Schultz quickly responded that while Harris used the words “immediate ceasefire” in a speech the other day‚ the VP also noted that it would be at least six weeks. Recognizing Sidner’s conversational direction‚ Schultz explained to Sidner why the administration was supportive of Israel. Block quote: This is essential that the hostages can be released‚ that we can make sure that a threat that exists to Israel‚ who are from an entity that is sworn to its destruction can be eradicated and that we can make sure that there's a negotiation for a longer term‚ eventual a longer term ceasefire. But there's no country on Earth that should be expected to have—to live with the terrorist threat on their border. An entity like Hamas that is sworn to Israel's destruction‚ sworn to the eradication of the Jewish people and is still holding one hundred and thirty-three hostages‚ including five Americans‚ and several remains of Americans that need to be released now. Further pushing against the pro-Israel stance‚ Sidner tried to emotionally manipulate Schultz by showing her graphs that compared Gazan children’s deaths in the last four months versus children’s deaths in the last four years. Sidner asked Schultz if “something like this and seeing those images will change the Biden administration's policy towards Israel? Push it to do something different?” As if using statistics pulled from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Ministry of Health wasn’t embarrassing enough‚ Sidner also completely failed in her attempt to force Schultz to either say something seemingly heartless or agree that Israel was evil. Schultz defended the administration’s position on the war‚ saying that‚ as allies‚ the U.S. supports “Israel's absolute right to defend its people and to ensure that this threat is eradicated.” She also countered Sidner’s statistics with a much-needed reminder that it was Hamas that started this war‚ it is Hamas that is pushing Palestinians to the frontlines of the war‚ and it is Hamas that has still not returned the hostages. Block quote: It is devastating that there are children being killed‚ that anyone is being killed. But let's remember that these are victims of Hamas as well. Hamas—this entire conflict could end tomorrow. Hamas‚ let's remember‚ Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th‚ 1‚200 Israelis slaughtered‚ raped. You have 250 of their people held hostage‚ including six Americans that were held hostage. It's absolutely essential that Hamas release the hostages. With an overly exaggerated expression of despair‚ Sidner whined‚ “But the argument that it isn't tolerable to have‚ you know‚ bombs raining from the sky and killing up to 30‚000 people. I mean‚ that's not Hamas‚ that is the Israelis who are doing that to Gaza.” Slapping her with a necessary reality check‚ Schultz reminded Sidner that this is‚ in fact‚ a war. Not only that‚ but also it’s a war that could have an immediate ceasefire‚ should Hamas choose to return the hostages. Sidner’s attempt to push all of the blame on Israel instead of acknowledging the acts of terrorism from Hamas reveals the damaging effects of watching too much propaganda on TikTok instead of conducting actual research. The full transcript can be read here.  CNN News Central 3/14/2024 8:38:26-8:42:23   SARA SIDNER: And I do want to talk to you about where there's confusion. There is confusion I think a little bit of the administration’s stance on a ceasefire. We heard from Vice President Kamala Harris‚ who came out very forcefully and publicly saying an immediate ceasefire needs to happen‚ right now— DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: Within six weeks. I mean‚ for six weeks. SIDNER: But she‚ she used the words “immediate ceasefire” and we haven't heard the same exact thing publicly from President Biden‚ so why? Why‚ why isn't the messaging the same from the two of them? SCHULTZ: Well‚ I mean the messag—I‚ I listened to Vice President Harris's speech. What she said was‚ she used the term “immediate‚” but she also said for six weeks. That they are consistently for a temporary pause in the fighting to ensure‚ and this is essential that the hostages can be released‚ that we can make sure that a threat that exists to Israel‚ who are from an entity that is sworn to its destruction can be eradicated and that we can make sure that there's a negotiation for a longer term‚ eventual a longer term ceasefire. SIDNER: There is‚ of course‚ a lot of pushback there and we heard this actually from Joe Biden is just the numbers of people killed‚ the numbers of Palestinians killed‚ and the devastation that they're seeing‚ and what's going to happen in the end. And I do want to show you some numbers that came out that were startling‚ disturbing. It's the number of children that were killed. And there's this graph here. The children killed in conflicts‚ and the number of children killed in Gaza in the past four months is now more than the number of children killed in conflicts over the past four years around the world. Do you think something like this and seeing those images will change the Biden administration's policy towards Israel? Push it to do something different? SCHULTZ: It is devastating that there are children being killed‚ that anyone is being killed. And at the same time‚ we are at the table every day because of our close relationship with Israel‚ working together side-by-side to make sure we can have a peace‚ a ceasefire with release of the hostages negotiated‚ while also supporting Israel's absolute right to defend its people and to ensure that this threat is eradicated. Remember Hamas‚ after October 7th said‚ “October 7th was the first time‚ and that there'd be a second‚ third‚ and 1000th time.” That is not a tolerable situation that any country should expect to have to live with. SIDNER: But the argument that it isn't tolerable to have‚ you know‚ bombs raining from the sky and killing up to 30‚000 people. I mean‚ that's not Hamas‚ that is the Israelis who are doing that— SCHULTZ: Well— SIDNER: —to Gaza.   SCHULTZ: They're‚ they're engaged in a war. War is horrific. But there is a way out of the war‚ where Hamas needs to accept the deal that's on the table. Israel and the United States and Hamas representatives and Qatar they've been negotiating over how we can get to a ceasefire and Hamas needs to accept that deal and release the hostages and save their own people who they have subjected to this war. SIDNER: Who they haven't built shelters for… (crosstalk) SCHULTZ: And using as human shields.

Florida sheriff blames 'idiots in Washington‚ DC‚' for 3 illegal aliens who allegedly assaulted woman: 'They shouldn't be here!'

A Florida county sheriff excoriated the "idiots in Washington‚ D.C.‚" for failing to secure the border after three illegal aliens were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman. "This morning‚ I'm just here to deliver a message. And the message is: don't think for a minute that what happens at the Mexican border doesn't affect us here!" said Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw in a media briefing Wednesday. "Here you have three illegals that should have never been in this country that have committed a very serious crime: kidnapping and sexual battery of a lady. They shouldn't be here!" he added. Bradshaw compared the sexual battery case in Florida to that of the brutal murder of 22-year-old Georgia college student Laken Riley after an illegal alien was arrested and charged with her death. He had been previously released over a "lack of detention space‚" according to one report. "In all likelihood‚ these three people came through Mexico. They didn't come through here‚ I can tell ya that for sure‚" he continued. "But for them to be in this country‚ to be able to commit these types of crimes‚ is unconscionable. The federal government has put the American people in jeopardy‚" Bradshaw added. "Our intelligence section‚ that works very closely with the FBI‚ has also identified that the most dangerous gangs in the world are now in Miami from Venezuela‚" he continued. "They make MS-13 look like school kids. They're gonna just stay in Miami. They're gonna go where they need to go to do what they do." Officials have warned that members of El Tren de Aragua gang from Venezuela have infiltrated the U.S. by hiding among immigrants. Police believe the gang was organizing a sex trafficking ring in Indianapolis. Bradshaw has been sheriff in the county for 20 years‚ but he said the immigration crisis is the worst he has seen in 52 years of his experience in law enforcement. "These idiots in Washington‚ D.C.‚ need to close this border. You know‚ if you got a leak in your house and water's going all over the place‚ you don't get a bucket and start cleaning it up. You turn the water off‚ and you stop the leak first. And in order to for this mess to get cleaned up‚ they got to stop what's coming across this border‚" he explained. "And it can be done‚" Bradshaw added. A friend of the victim said that she is seriously traumatized by the alleged kidnapping and assault. Police were able to arrest three illegal aliens as suspects. One has been previously arrested for driving without a license‚ but prosecutors dropped the charges‚ and he was let free. "My message is: don't be complacent‚" Bradshaw concluded. "Because what is happening at the Mexican border is going to affect us." Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Mike Lee subjected to TSA pat down days after calling to nix the agency: 'Maybe it's a coincidence'

Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah noted in a post on X that days after calling for the abolition of the Transportation Security Administration‚ he was subjected to a pat down."Update: days after calling to abolish TSA‚ I got 'randomly selected' for the needlessly slow‚ thorough TSA screening &; patdown. Maybe it's a coincidence. Or not. Impossible to know. That's part of the problem with having a federal agency in charge of airport security‚" Lee wrote in a Thursday post on X. — (@) In a Monday post‚ Lee‚ who has served in the Senate since early 2011‚ called for nixing the TSA and suggested that airlines could assume the responsibility of ensuring the security of their flights."It's time to abolish the TSA. Airlines can and will secure their own planes if a federal agency doesn't do it for them. They'll do it better than TSA‚ without undermining the Constitution and with less groping—showing more respect for passengers‚" he wrote. The agency was created in the wake of the September 11‚ 2001‚ terror attacks. "The Aviation and Transportation Security Act‚ passed by the 107th Congress and signed on November 19‚ 2001‚ established TSA‚" according to tsa.gov.In response to Lee's post on Thursday‚ someone tweeted‚ "I had the major pat down last time I flew and I felt violated‚ even though it was a woman. It was really bad." — (@) Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Homeless man who punched 6-year-old girl in Santa Monica arrested after he later assaulted 7-year-old boy‚ LAPD says

The Los Angeles Police Department said that a homeless man was arrested for two separate‚ unprovoked attacks on a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy. Witnesses said that a man was "acting erratically" while sitting on a bus bench at Main Street and Marine Avenue when he punched a girl in the face as she was walking with her family in Santa Monica on Sunday at about 7 p.m. Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Erika Aklufi said that the girl was not seriously injured. Christina Tullock said the family were her friends on a visit from the East Coast and she witnessed the attack on the girl. She said they were just enjoying some ice cream when the man attacked. "He turned in his seat and he swerved‚ hit my friend's six-year-old in the face‚ and the child fell to the ground‚" said Tullock to KTTV-TV. She said she scooped up the kid and they ran away. A business owner named Nicole Niss spoke to KABC-TV about the aftermath of the first attack. "The family ran away but the friend came back and tried to get a picture of them and have been searching for what happened since‚" she said. "They came in and asked if we had any footage but unfortunately‚ our cameras only capture our front door." "He was out of control." Tullock said she was so fed up with the crime in the city that she came back and followed the man in order to snap a photo and get a good description for police. "He was out of control‚ he was totally wide-eyed‚ he was having some sort of a psychotic break. He needs help. It's horrendous that this is how we have to live. We're expected to fend for ourselves‚" she added. "You can't be six eating ice cream on the sidewalk in the city!" said Tullock with tears in her eyes. "You can't do it! It's not safe here!" A second attack Days later‚ the same man allegedly attacked a 7-year-old on the Venice boardwalk on Thursday. No other information was available about that attack. Police said they identified the man as 23-year-old Ahsante Lamar Morgan and were able to arrest him. They confirmed that he was homeless. "An incident like this one is an affront to public safety and will not be tolerated‚" said the Santa Monica Police Department. "Even more so that a child was involved. Any crime committed in Santa Monica is a crime too many; our department stands strong in the face of anyone who chooses to victimize those who are in this city." Police said they were deploying the Homeless Liaison Program Team in order to provide resources to the homeless of the city. Tullock had a message for those wanting to visit the popular California destinations. "Don't come to Venice or Los Angeles‚ it's not safe if you have children or elderly people with you. Don't come visit us‚ it is not under control‚" she said. Here's a news report about the assaults: Like Blaze News?
