Scott Hamilton on How Faith Guided Him Through His Cancer Fight

Scott Hamilton opens up about how faith guided him through his cancer fight. Scott Hamilton began his battle with cancer in 1997. He recounts his cancer journey with Jennifer Hudson in this clip from his appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. RELATED: Retired Olympic Figure Skater Shares About The Battles He Had To Overcome When asked how he's feeling, the 65-year-old olympian jokes, "I've never been this old before." Then, he goes on to say "It's great." Scott shares that his first cancer diagnosis, which was testicular cancer, came in 1997. Scott Hamilton on How Faith Helped His Cancer Fight After surviving the first bout, Scott was again struck with cancer in 2004. This was two years after marrying wife Tracie Robinson in 2002. This time, he had a brain tumor, and a biopsy revealed that he'd been born with it. According to Scott, it was this episode that really "ignited" his faith. In an interview with People, Scott shared that Tracie inspired him to form a deeper relationship with God, saying, "When you're skating in front of millions, you pray. When you're diagnosed with cancer, you pray. But when we started going to church together, it connected the dots for me. I knew all the things that had happened to me weren't accidental." RELATED: Shannen Doherty Gives Heartbreaking Cancer Update but Vows to Keep Fighting When the cancer returned in 2010, Scott had 9 surgeries to treat the benign tumor. However, when doctors found yet another benign tumor in 2016, Scott chose not to treat the tumor with the surgical or medical options presented. This time, in his words, he elected to "go home" and "get strong." Scott jokes that he had to "negotiate" his high school diploma. In the same way that choosing "all of the above" may result in being at least a little right, Scott explains that he figured he'd try to get healthy in lots of ways-physically, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually. That's just what he did! YOU MAY ALSO LIKE: Mom Hits 2 Million Dollar Jackpot After Spending Life Savings to Help Daughter Beat Cancer When he returned to the doctor next, his tumor had not grown. When he returned 3 months after that, it had shrunk by 45%! Scott's surgeon offered only one explanation for the size reduction. God! In the years since, Scott's tumor has shrunk and grown, grown and shrunk, but he has decided to quit thinking about it. Eight years after making that decision, Scott says that he's never been stronger in his faith and never been stronger emotionally or intellectually. He reports that he has a great quality of life, and Jennifer calls him a "walking testimony." The father of four lost his mother to cancer 47 years ago. After going through that, he became a fundraiser, but when he was diagnosed 20 years after her death, he became an activist. He says his mother never had an opportunity for survival, but the work and research of two scientists in Indiana have made it possible for Scott to live many years beyond his initial diagnosis. Scott founded CARES (Cancer Alliance for Research Education and Survivorship). The organization is dedicated to the future of cancer, which Mr. Hamilton believes is in immunotherapy. With tears in his eyes, he shares that on the night of his 40th-anniversary celebration, he was able to announce that the research program for the type of cancer that killed his mother will now go into clinical trials! Scott Hamilton has persevered to use his talent, faith, and platform to live the best life he can for his own family and to make the lives of so many other families better! "I persevered in demonstrating among you the marks of a true apostle, including signs, wonders, and miracles." 2 Corinthians 12:12 WATCH: Scott Hamilton Opens Up About How Faith Guided Him Through Cancer Fight LISTEN: Mom Put up Son for Adoption, Meets Him 18 Years Later | Alan Jackson Battles Through Illness to Give the ‘Best Show' h/t: GodTube Featured Image Credit: YouTube/Jennifer Hudson Show The post Scott Hamilton on How Faith Guided Him Through His Cancer Fight appeared first on GodUpdates.

CNN Announces Layoffs

In a memo sent to staff Wednesday morning, CNN chief executive Mark Thompson said the network would lay off 100 employees as it pushes to expand its digital programs. LAYOFF ALERT – Nationwide CNN (Cable News Network) @CNN will be reducing its workforce by approximately 100 employees as part of a reorganization effort to expand its digital ventures. pic.twitter.com/totvDROnUx — The Layoff Tracker (@WhatLayoff) July 10, 2024 The network said the memo outlined a plan to “build a billion-dollar digital business, experiment with artificial intelligence and overhaul key newsroom structures.” CNN To Reduce Staff By About 100 As CEO Unveils New Details Of "One Newsroom" Strategy; Digital Subscription Offering Planned For Later This Year https://t.co/EAMrK98YrV — Deadline Hollywood (@DEADLINE) July 10, 2024 Per CNN: The far-reaching measures, which Thompson described to staffers in a memo as a “key milestone in the transformation of CNN,” will result in about 100 employees, or about three percent of the workforce, being laid off. Those employees, Thompson said, will be eligible for severance packages. Since his appointment last year, Thompson has been candid about the challenges facing CNN, stressing to staffers that swift and dramatic steps are necessary to reorient the television-focused news organization for a digital future. Like other legacy media companies, CNN has for its four-decade history relied heavily on carriage fees from the traditional cable news bundle, a declining business that has been upended by the advent of streaming services such as Netflix. While the company is still profitable to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars each year, pivoting the network’s business away from the contracting cable industry, which provides the bulk of CNN’s revenue, to position it for the future will be an enormously difficult challenge. “Turning a great news organization towards the future is not a one-day affair. It happens in stages and over time,” Thompson said in his memo to staff. “Today’s announcements do not answer every question or seek to solve every challenge we face. However, they do represent a significant step forward and I hope you will read about them in that spirit.” “CNN last had significant layoffs in late 2022 under previous CEO Chris Licht. Those cuts included major reductions at the HLN channel as well as at CNN International, along with a reevaluation of its on-air contributor deals,” The Hollywood Reporter stated. CNN to Lay Off 100 Staffers as It Preps Major Revamp of Digital Efforts https://t.co/rX9zG7w23Y — The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) July 10, 2024 From The Hollywood Reporter: While the specifics around CNN’s first subscription offering were not clear from the memo, Thompson did emphasize that rather than the text-based experience it currently leans on, CNN will focus more on video in digital going forward. “More than anything the CNN brand stands for news brought to you in moving pictures and sound with an onscreen anchor or correspondent acting as a trusted guide,” Thompson wrote. “In the future our digital products need to do a far better job of reflecting CNN’s massive strength in video and anchoring/reporting talent. Video will be at the heart of our future and a re-imagined video experience on every platform — from pure digital to streaming, FAST channels and more — it is essential for CNN’s future.” To that end, CNN will also be building out its free, ad-supported streaming business with two new offerings, one based on CNN Originals, and another based on CNN en Español.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Files Articles Of Impeachment Against Two Supreme Court Justices

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has filed articles of impeachment against U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. “The unchecked corruption crisis on the Supreme Court has now spiraled into a Constitutional crisis threatening American democracy writ large. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito’s pattern of refusal to recuse from consequential matters before the court in which they hold widely documented financial and personal entanglements constitutes a grave threat to American rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and one of the clearest cases for which the tool of impeachment was designed,” AOC said. “The Constitution of the United States explicitly outlines a higher standard of conduct for the judiciary to meet, far surpassing its existing bars on treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors for all civil officers: the standard of Good Behavior. Judicial ethics and rules, to which even the lowest level judges are held, make those standards clear. The lifetime appointments of Supreme Court justices make enforcement of these standards a solemn responsibility for the protection of our democracy,” she continued. Today, I introduced articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. Read my full statement: https://t.co/is5EiLXw56 pic.twitter.com/AGGZhuZUm4 — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@RepAOC) July 10, 2024 “Justice Thomas and Alito’s repeated failure over decades to disclose that they received millions of dollars in gifts from individuals with business before the court is explicitly against the law. And their refusal to recuse from the specific matters and cases before the court in which their benefactors and spouses are implicated represents nothing less than a constitutional crisis. These failures alone would amount to a deep transgression worthy of standard removal in any lower court, and would disqualify any nominee to the highest court from confirmation in the first place. Given the court’s demonstrated inability to preserve its own legitimate conduct, it is incumbent upon Congress to contain the threat this poses to our democracy and the hundreds of millions of Americans harmed by the crisis of corruption unfurling within the court. Congress has a legal, moral, and democratic obligation to impeach,” she added. “AOC has unveiled her articles of impeachment against Justices Thomas and Alito for refusing to recuse from certain cases. Co-sponsors: Lee (Calif.), Tlaib, Watson Coleman, Ramirez (Ill.), Frost, Omar and Bowman,” Axios reporter Andrew Solender wrote. Co-sponsors: Lee (Calif.), Tlaib, Watson Coleman, Ramirez (Ill.), Frost, Omar and Bowman. pic.twitter.com/KaU5ivqndZ — Andrew Solender (@AndrewSolender) July 10, 2024 AOC wrote in a press release: The first impeachment resolution includes the following impeachment articles against Justice Thomas: Failure to disclose financial income, gifts and reimbursements, property interests, liabilities, and transactions, among other information. Refusal to recuse from matters concerning his spouse’s legal interest in cases before the court. Refusal to recuse from matters involving his spouse’s financial interest in cases before the court. The second impeachment resolution includes the following impeachment articles against Justice Alito: Refusal to recuse from cases in which he had a personal bias or prejudice concerning a party in cases before the court. Failure to disclose financial income, gifts and reimbursements, property interests, liabilities, and transactions, among other information. The Congresswoman maintains that such conduct—while under a Judicial Oath to “faithfully and impartially discharge and perform” duties and a Constitutional Oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”—warrants impeachment, trial, removal from office, and disqualification from holding future office in the United States of America. On June 11, 2024, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and Congressman Jamie Raskin hosted an oversight roundtable with expert panelists and legislators, including Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), entitled “High Court, Low Standards, and Dark Money: Flagging a Supreme Court Ethics Crisis in America,” to examine corruption on the court. On June 20, they wrote a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts to learn what immediate action he would take to restore public trust in the Court amidst severe ethical conflicts. Additionally, on June 25, the lawmakers introduced the High Court Gift Ban Act to prohibit Supreme Court justices from receiving gifts valued at more than $50, bringing them in line with Members of Congress and other federal officials. POLITICO noted: The move has slim chances of success in the GOP-controlled House, but is an escalation of Democrats’ efforts to probe what they view as ethical misconduct in the nation’s highest court.

Pfizer Chief Scientific Officer, Who Played Strategic Role In COVID-19 Jab Development, Will Step Down

Pfizer announced its Chief Scientific Officer Mikael Dolsten, who played a prominent role in developing the company’s experimental COVID-19 jab, will step down. Dolsten will leave behind a 15-year career at the drug manufacturer. Pfizer's Chief Science Officer who developed COVID vaccines stepping down…he knows what's coming! pic.twitter.com/jxB7rWdOms — aussie17 (@_aussie17) July 9, 2024 Per Reuters: Dolsten, aged 65, served as the head of Pfizer’s research and development after he joined the company through its $68 billion acquisition of Wyeth in 2009. He became the company’s chief scientist in 2010. During his tenure, Comirnaty — jointly developed by Pfizer and BioNTech — became the first COVID vaccine to get an approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2021, just 13 months after its trial began, in a record time to approval for any shot or therapeutic. Pfizer also developed and launched multi-billion dollar products such as heart disease drug Vyndaqel and blood thinner Eliquis, after the company struggled to remain competitive with other drugmakers. After 15 years, including a career-defining pandemic period, the Pfizer's Chief Scientific Officer Mikael Dolsten, M.D., Ph.D., plans to leave once the drugmaker finds his successor. $PFE https://t.co/oFMLLMf5Cf — FierceBiotech (@FierceBiotech) July 9, 2024 “After more than 15 years as the architect of Pfizer’s exceptional scientific and research and development resurgence, Mikael and I recently discussed starting the process to look for his successor,” Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said, according to Reuters. Pfizer said on Tuesday Chief Scientific Officer Mikael Dolsten, a key figure behind the development of its COVID-19 vaccine, would step down after a more than 15-year career at the drugmaker. https://t.co/roGFbQT1pF https://t.co/roGFbQT1pF — Reuters Health (@Reuters_Health) July 9, 2024 BioPharma Dive noted: Dolsten will help with the search and continue to serve in his current position until a successor is in place and “any necessary transition is complete,” according to Pfizer. Dolsten is a veteran drug hunter, having served in major research roles for Boehringer Ingelheim, AstraZeneca and Wyeth before joining Pfizer. He came to Pfizer after the company acquired Wyeth in a $68 billion megamerger in 2009, and then was tasked with leading the company’s drug research as well as development through mid-stage testing. Over that time, Pfizer changed CEOs multiple times and narrowed its focus to branded medicines, spinning off its animal health and consumer divisions. And under Dolsten’s watch, Pfizer cut back its neuroscience research and pushed further into oncology and gene therapy. Since Dolsten’s arrival, Pfizer has won approvals for over 35 drugs and vaccines, more than half of which were new molecules, the company said. Among those medicines were the immunology treatment Xeljanz, the respiratory syncytial virus vaccine Abrysvo and the transthyretin amyloidosis therapy Vyndamax. The company also won its first gene therapy approval, for the hemophilia B treatment Beqvez, early this year. The outlet added that Dolsten is probably most noted for his work in developing the mRNA COVID-19 shot. That’s 10% of US states. The tide is turning,” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said. Five U.S. states are suing Pfizer over false claims regarding the safety and efficacy of its Covid vaccine. Prof Carl Heneghan and Dr Tom Jefferson say its appalling that we must resort to the courts to protect ourselves. https://t.co/pMfVBXyLAz — The Daily Sceptic (@LD_Sceptics) June 23, 2024 “Pfizer marketed its vaccine as safe for pregnant women. However, in February of 2021, Pfizer possessed reports for 458 pregnant women who received Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy. More than half of the pregnant women reported an adverse event and more than 10% reported a miscarriage, many within days of the vaccination,” Kobach said. “Pfizer consistently denied any evidence of connection or safety signal between its COVID-19 vaccine and myocarditis or pericarditis,” he continued. “Pfizer also claimed that its COVID-19 vaccine protected against COVID-19 variants, even though data available at the time showed Pfizer’s vaccine was effective less than half the time against variants,” he added.
