July 2nd, 2005: Live 8 Concerts

On this day, 19 years ago…The Live 8 concerts took place to raise awareness of the extreme poverty across Africa. U2 (pictured), Velvet Revolver and R.E.M. appeared at London’s Wembley Stadium. Pink Floyd’s London performance was the original lineup’s first show since “The Wall” tour in ’81. Green Day and Audioslave played Berlin. On the other side of the pond, Linkin Park and Bon Jovi performed in Philadelphia as Mötley Crüe and Jet hit the stage in Barrie, north of Toronto. AC/DC Classics Keep Rockin’

“You Shook Me All Night Long” and “Thunderstruck” are alive and well on Billboard’s Hard Rock charts. “You Shook Me All Night Long,” released in ’80, is #9 this week on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart and #3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list. Meanwhile, “Thunderstruck,” issued in ’90, holds the #13 slot on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart and #4 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs. “You Shook Me All Night Long” is from AC/DC’s “Back In Black” album and “Thunderstruck” is found on “The Razor’s Edge.” Both songs feature Brian Johnson’s vocals.
