'That was scary': Flying bat injures fan at Fenway Park after Cubs catcher has wild strikeout swing

Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya reportedly injured a fan after his bat flew into the stands following a strikeout. The Boston Red Sox hosted the Cubs at Fenway Park in Boston‚ and during the third inning viewers at home witnessed a scary scene. With two strikes‚ Cubs catcher Amaya swung and missed an 89-mile per hour splitter from Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck. Amaya's follow-through flung the bat into the crowd‚ barely missing a pizza vendor. As Amaya looked into the stands after losing his grip‚ the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast zoomed in on what appeared to be the elderly woman who was injured by the flying object. Although it is unclear exactly which fan was injured in the incident‚ the elderly woman appeared to be wincing in pain as the cameras pinpointed the area.&;quot;Watch out&;#33;&;quot; &;quot; The bat goes flying into the stands&;#33;&;quot; the ESPN broadcast team of Karl Ravech and Jon Sciambi announced. Houck strikes out Amaya as his bat goes flying afterwards — (@) The incident was reported on by Boston Herald reporter Mac Cerullo‚ who was providing play-by-play updates on his X account.&;quot; That was scary. Miguel Amaya just lost his bat as he swung and threw it all the way into the crowd. Nearly took out a pizza vendor and it appears a fan is being attended to‚&;quot; Cerullo stated. The Red Sox reporter provided an update about five minutes later‚ noting that the fan was &;quot;wheeled away&;quot; by medical staff.&;quot; The fan was just wheeled away by Fenway Park's medical staff. Hopefully they're ok.&;quot; The fan was just wheeled away by Fenway Park's medical staff. Hopefully they're ok. — (@) Neither the team nor the reporter provided updates on the medical status of the fan.The Red Sox went on to beat the Cubs 4-3 while Amaya went hitless with three strikeouts.Fenway Park had a similar incident in 2015 that resulted in a much more serious situation when then-Oakland Athletics third baseman Brett Lawrie broke his bat nearly in half with a swing‚ with the broken piece flying into the stands.A woman in attendance was hit on the forehead by the flying piece of wood and suffered a serious injury‚ with a lot of blood loss. &;quot; She seemed in shock‚ she was not aware of what was going on‚ pushing help away‚&;quot; a fan told the Boston Globe at the time‚ according to SportNews. &;quot; She was pushing the towel away‚ and she was out of it.&;quot;Boston police spokesman David Estrada also said at the time that the woman was suffering from &;quot;life-threatening&;quot; injuries when she was taken to hospital‚ CNN reported. The woman was identified days later when she was released from hospital to a rehab facility. It was then revealed that her injury left a large amount of blood where she was sitting and the victim was screaming in pain as medical personnel and fans attended to her. Transgender attacker menaces man with shoe‚ then punches him in face on NYC subway platform‚ leaving victim bloody‚ cops say

A transgender male identifying as a female menaced a man with a shoe‚ then punched him in face on a New York City subway platform over the weekend‚ leaving the victim's forehead bloody‚ police said. What are the details&;#63;Police told WPIX-TV the incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Saturday at Grand Central station in Manhattan. Officers and emergency medical services were recorded on video attending to the 39-year-old victim‚ who was seen holding a cloth to his forehead as blood dripped down his hand. The victim was loaded into an ambulance and taken to NYU Langone in stable condition‚ the station said.Police said the attacker fled the scene‚ no one was arrested‚ and it remains unclear what led to the attack‚ WPIX said. The station said the attack left subway riders concerned about transit safety.“It has been like people getting attacked by random people‚” Ruben Morales‚ who has been riding the subway since he can remember‚ told WPIX.Subway rider Chris J. added to the station that &;quot;it is New York‚ and you just gotta stay safe‚ no matter where you are. Just be vigilant of your surroundings.&;quot;WPIX‚ citing NYPD data‚ noted that subway crime is down more than 23% in March. Mayor Eric Adams previously attributed the drop in subway crime to the addition of 1‚000 officers to keep watch‚ the station said.Morales didn't seem convinced‚ telling WPIX that officials &;quot;are more worried people hopping the train instead of people getting attacked here. So‚ they all stay near the upstairs instead of coming down ... being around the people.&;quot; Transgender woman punches man on subway platform: NYPD youtu.be How are observers reacting&;#63;Nearly 1‚000 comments have popped up under the WPIX story published on Yahoo News — and many of them are not happy:&;quot;Crime in the subway is down 23%&;#63; Go tell those that have been punched‚ killed‚ and outright victimized by criminals‚&;quot; one commenter wrote.&;quot;Transmania‚&;quot; another commenter declared. &;quot; From middle schools to subways.&;quot;&;quot;Probably called him 'he' and refused to use his preferred pronouns‚&;quot; another commenter quipped.&;quot;Hate crime&;#63;&;quot; another commenter wondered with tongue firmly in cheek.&;quot; When 2 + 2 = Wednesday‚ this is what you get‚&;quot; another commenter pointed out.Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Blinded bishop defiantly picks up where he left off — at altar where Islamic terrorist tried to butcher him

The Christian bishop brutally stabbed in Sydney earlier this month by an Islamic terrorist defiantly returned to church Sunday‚ sporting an eye patch and picking up where he left off. Assyrian Orthodox Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel thanked his well-wishers‚ forgave his attacker‚ criticized censorship‚ and emphasized that discussions of human rights fall flat without an understanding of human purpose‚ which he underscored is anchored in God. The livestream of the Sunday service at Christ the Good Shepherd Church — which the Australian government has not yet attempted to censor as it has the video of Emmanuel's stabbing on April 15 — the bishop can be seen receiving an enthusiastic welcome upon entering the sanctuary. #Breaking\n\nAfter miraculously surviving a recent stabbing attack by an Islamist at a Sydney church‚ Assyrian Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel receives a standing ovation from the congregation as he resumes preaching. — (@) The bishop opened with a commemoration of Jesus Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a mule‚ noting‚ &;quot; He came to crush evil‚ to crush condemnation‚ to crush Satan‚ and to crush death for once and for all. He who has Christ has life and life eternal.&;quot; After thanking the various Christian leaders‚ parishes‚ and government officials who signaled support for him in the wake of the attack‚ Bishop Mar Mari‚ who was blinded in one eye‚ noted‚ &;quot; This young man who did this act almost two weeks ago‚ I say to you‚ my dear‚ you are my son and you will always be my son. I will always pray for you. I will always wish you nothing but the best. I pray that my Lord and Savior‚ Jesus Christ of Nazareth‚ to enlighten your heart‚ enlighten your soul‚ your entire being — to realize there is only one God who art in heaven. ... That God is Jesus Christ of Nazareth.&;quot; The bishop noted further that he forgives his attacker and whoever else was behind the terroristic assassination attempt. Blaze News previously reported that seven teens were arrested in Sydney Wednesday in connection to the terror attack. Two of the suspects‚ ages 16 and 17‚ were charged with conspiring to engage in a terrorist attack. Another suspect was charged with carrying a knife in public. The Detroit News reported that four of the teens allegedly used the encrypted messaging app Signal — run by a company whose board NPR boss Katherine Maher chairs — to plan their attack. &;quot;I wanna die and I wanna kill ... I'm just excited. ... Is your plan to get caught or die or escape&;#63;&;quot; a 17-year-old suspect allegedly wrote. Another teen reportedly responded‚ &;quot; We're gonna be planning for a while ... we prefer to escape‚ but whatever happens‚ it's the qadr [predetermination] of Allah.&;quot; The parents of the teen charged with terrorism for stabbing the bishop suggested he was violent and potentially autistic but not a terrorist‚ despite his reported affinity for videos of Osama bin Laden online and use of a photo of bin Laden for his WhatsApp profile picture. Bishop Mar Mari also had some words for the Australian government‚ which has been fighting Elon Musk's X in an effort to erase video evidence of the attack from social media. He stressed that &;quot;every human being has the right to their freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Every human being.&;quot; The bishop‚ who spoke out last week against his country's global censorship demands‚ rattled off various belief systems entitled to free speech‚ concluding with &;quot;also the Christians have the right to express their beliefs.&;quot; &;quot; For us to say that 'free speech is dangerous‚' that 'free speech cannot be possible in a democratic country‚' I'm yet to fathom this‚&;quot; said Mar Mari. &;quot;I am yet to fathom this. We should be able as civilized human beings — as intellectuals — we should be able to criticize‚ to speak.&;quot; &;quot;Maybe‚ at some certain times‚ we may sound or we may come across offensive to somewhat degree. But we should be able to say‚ 'I should not worry for my life to be exposed to threat or to be taken away‚'&;quot; said the bishop. &;quot;A non-Christian can criticize my faith‚ can attack my faith. I will say one thing: 'May God forgive you and may God bless you.' This is a civilized way‚ an intellectual way of approaching such events if or when they take place.&;quot; The clear intimation was that the path chosen by the Islamic teen was the barbaric way of dealing with speech perceived to be offensive. The bishop is no stranger to the well-trodden barbaric way‚ having originally come from Iraq where Sunni and Shia Muslim groups have brutally oppressed Christians‚ driving them in recent years to the brink of extinction. Iraq has been home to Christians since gifted the faith in the first century by Thomas the Apostle and Thaddeus of Edessa. The bishop further appeared to insinuate a commonality between his attacker and the government‚ stating‚ &;quot; To say that 'because of this freedom of speech‚ it is causing dramas and dilemmas‚ therefore everything should be censored‚' then where is democracy&;#63; Then where is humanity&;#63; Where is integrity&;#63; ... Where are the values which the Western world more so have been fighting for&;#63;&;quot; Last week‚ Bishop Mar Mari expressed concern in an audio statement that bad actors were using his attack &;quot;to serve their own political interest to control free speech.&;quot; &;quot;I do acknowledge the Australian government's desire to have the videos removed because of their graphic nature‚&;quot; said the bishop. &;quot; However‚ noting our God-given right to freedom of speech and freedom of religion‚ I'm not opposed to the videos remaining on social media.&;quot; Bishop Mar Mari is not the only victim of the Islamic terror attack who was back in church on Sunday. Fr. Isaac Royel‚ a parish priest who rushed to the bishop's defense and ultimately suffered stab wounds of his own‚ celebrated Palm Sunday with the bishop and his Orthodox congregation. He can be seen on the bishop's right in the video of the Sunday sermon. Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Remember the young surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack&;#63; 21 years later she’s fighting to protect women’s sports

A promising young surfer‚ then 13-year-old Bethany Hamilton’s world was turned upside down when she lost her arm in a shark attack. On “Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey‚” Bethany detailed how her family’s faith in God helped her through these troubling times: “My dad worked really hard — like two to three jobs at a time‚ so we had a really simple childhood. But they gave me so much. They gave me so much time‚ and they gave me my faith in God. ... And so‚ when I lost my arm‚ it was almost like I was ready‚ because my mom had raised me in my faith‚ she would pray with me‚ she read the Bible to me at bedtime‚ we went to church ... and so‚ when chaos hit‚ I was ready.” She also explained how she had to relearn surfing and what drove her to get back in the water just 21 days later: “For me‚ surfing was more than just a childhood hobby. I feel like it was a way of life and culture and art and sport.” Bethany said the physical journey was actually pretty easy‚ but it took a while for her to regain her confidence while surfing and figure out how to do things differently with just one arm — what she calls “Bethany’s version” of surfing. She also explained how frustrating it was to figure out how to do life with just one arm but that her faith in God and His plan for her life kept her going. She discussed meeting her husband‚ motherhood‚ and even surfing while pregnant. According to Bethany‚ there are certain waves that are better while pregnant‚ and she surfed well into all her pregnancies‚ which is apparently commonplace in Hawaii. Bethany has also been an outspoken advocate for the protection of women’s sports and explained her choice to speak out against biological men in women’s sports‚ specifically the World Surf League’s rule allowing males to compete against females: “I feel like‚ too‚ a lot of it’s just such an interesting thing‚ because I feel like if women just said no‚ this wouldn’t be an issue. If all the female surfers — if the 70% that disagree with [the rule]‚ if they all said no‚ then the World Surf League would not have an option.” In the full episode‚ Bethany dives deeper into her faith‚ becoming well-known‚ and her partnership with pro-life diaper brand‚ EveryLife.
