‘Uniquely Qualified’: Soldiers Who Served With Tulsi Gabbard Tell Senate Why They Back Her For DNI

Men and women who served with Tulsi Gabbard in the United States Military are backing her nomination for Director of National Intelligence. Letters obtained by The Daily Wire sent to the United States Senate show around 20 men and women who served with Gabbard praising her “unwavering commitment to safeguarding our military’s most precious resource, the young men and women of the Armed Forces.” The Senate Intelligence Committee will likely vote on Gabbard’s confirmation on Tuesday, POLITICO reported Monday. “What stands out most about Lieutenant Colonel Gabbard is her commitment and genuine care for her Soldiers and their families,” wrote Christopher B. Creaghe, a colonel in the U.S. Army who was Gabbard’s Brigade Commander in the United States Army Reserve. “It was always apparent that nothing was more important to her than the Soldiers in her charge. In times of need, she was always there for her unit and their families.” “At the end of her tenure as battalion commander, several of her subordinate officers and Soldiers wrote heartfelt messages to me requesting her time as their commander be extended,” he added. “I have never seen that kind of support for a commander in my 24 years of service.” A slew of other letters echo the same sentiment toward Gabbard. “Tulsi Gabbard is uniquely qualified for this position, because of her service to her state and nation, extensive combat deployments, and being elected to positions at the state house and federal congressional levels,” wrote Joe Logan, a retired major general in the U.S. Army. “Her ability to gather information, understand intelligence assessments, and synthesize this data into new and innovative solution sets for the U.S. and our allies and partners is audacious and will serve our nation well.” Brigadier General Walter R. Ross writes that Gabbard “embodies the qualities essential for this pivotal role,” describing how she has a “rare talent for inspiring and energizing those around her, instilling a sense of confidence and fostering an environment where every team member feels both valued and empowered to excel.” “Given the multitude of pressing threats our nation currently faces — from geopolitical tensions and cyber threats to domestic instability — it is imperative that the U.S. Senate expeditiously confirms LTC Tulsi Gabbard as the DNI,” he wrote. “Her exceptional qualifications, coupled with a proven track record of leadership and unwavering commitment to safeguarding our national interests, render her the unequivocal choice for this critical position.” Iraq War Veteran Bear Handlon, a Navy SEAL and founder of “Born Primitive,” wrote that Gabbard has “seen firsthand the costs of war.” “I proudly support Tulsi’s nomination, and I humbly ask that partisan politics do not play a factor in the decision to confirm her nomination,” he wrote. “Protecting America is not a Republican or Democratic issue, and I know Tulsi will be fully committed to protecting ALL Americans during this pivotal moment in American history.” Hawaii Army National Guard Colonel Phoebe Inigo draws on Gabbard’s service in the military and her two tours to the Middle East, describing Gabbard’s “unwavering dedication to our nation and its security.” “Her leadership skills, honed through various challenging assignments, have equipped her with a deep understanding of intelligence operations and the complexities of national security,” wrote Inigo. “LTC Gabbard possesses a strategic mindset and the ability to analyze multifaceted situations, making swift decisions that prioritize the safety and welfare of our country.” Writing for Newsweek, Gabbard made the case for why she is the right choice for DNI. “Ensuring the safety, security and freedom of the American people is a mandate of leadership that rises above partisan politics,” she wrote. “If confirmed, my commitment to the President, to Congress, and to the American people is this: I will do my very best to find the truth, no matter where it leads, and share the truth with President Trump, his advisors, and to Congress. I promise to provide unbiased, timely, and accurate intelligence for those making decisions to protect the people of our country.” She also explicitly addressed concerns about her posture towards Edward Snowden, which gave some senators pause during her confirmation hearing. She said that her four-point plan to prevent future Snowden-like leaks includes “proper oversight to make sure there are no illegal or unconstitutional intelligence collection programs,” “minimizing access to highly sensitive intelligence through security clearance and classification reform, which has bipartisan support,” “informing every person in the workforce about all legal options for whistleblowers, including the Inspector General, Ombudsman, and the Senate Intelligence Committee,” and “establishing a direct hotline directly to me for whistleblowers.” “I am honored by the trust President Trump has put in me in nominating me to lead our intelligence community,” concluded Gabbard. “I am the right person for the job.”

Beyoncé Wins Album Of The Year And Best Country Album For ‘Cowboy Carter’

Beyoncé won for the first time ever in the highly lauded Album of the Year category at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards and became the first black artist to win Best Country Album with “Cowboy Carter.” “I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it,” she said. “I think sometimes genre is a cold word to keep us in a place as artists.” The 43-year-old pop star took home top honors for her country album. Other nominees for Album of the Year included Andre 3000, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli xcx, Jacob Collier, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift. Beyoncé began her acceptance speech by saying she’d “like to thank and acknowledge and praise all the firefighters for keeping us safe.” Members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department were still on the stage after presenting her with the award.   “Cowboy Carter,” a multi-genre album, was released in March and received mostly positive reviews. However, it was not nominated for any Country Music Association Awards last year. Beyoncé was also nominated for nine other Grammy awards, making her the most-nominated artist in Grammy history. Cowboy Carter was in no way a shoo-in as fans speculated that Swift, Eilish, Charlie xcx and hot new star Chappell Roan would offer tough competition for Album of the Year.  Despite Swift’s massive popularity and the success of her Eras tour, which wrapped up this year, she did not win any Grammys last night.

Thousands Block Streets, Wave Foreign Flags Across U.S. To Protest Trump’s Immigration Policies

Protests erupted in cities across the U.S. over the weekend as people hit the streets to voice opposition to President Donald Trump’s immigration policies as federal agents ramp up arrests and deportations. Thousands of people blocked a section of the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles as they blasted Mexican music and danced in the streets on Sunday. Protesters waved Mexican and Salvadoran flags, and some carried signs that read, “MAGA — Mexicans Always Get Across,” “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” and “I drink my horchata warm because f— I.C.E,” The Los Angeles Times reported. The L.A. protest lasted throughout the afternoon and evening before police in riot gear began dispersing the crowd around 7:00 p.m. The 101 Freeway was cleared and reopened by 8:00 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol said no arrests were made. UPDATE: The view from the 101 Freeway overpass on Hill Street in downtown Los Angeles. The freeway is closed once again as demonstrators poured back into the lanes, after being briefly reopened at about 1:20 p.m. Read more: https://t.co/K60ImdzmDi pic.twitter.com/1MWoMdMY4g — KTLA (@KTLA) February 2, 2025 More than 1,000 people — many of them displaying Mexican flags — also took to the streets in St. Louis on Saturday in response to Trump’s immigration policies. Hundreds more gathered in Atlanta on Saturday, waving flags from Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. In Dallas, around 2,000 protesters crammed into Dallas City Hall Plaza on Sunday afternoon. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been conducting raids in cities across the country since Trump was sworn into office. In the first two weeks of Trump’s second term, ICE made more than 7,000 arrests, CBS Austin reported. Last week, the president also directed the Department of Defense to use Guantanamo Bay to hold criminal illegal immigrants before they are repatriated to their home countries. Trump’s border czar Tom Homan told The Washington Post that the U.S. government would “hopefully” begin using Guantanamo Bay for illegal immigrants “within 30 days.” Trump has made immigration a top priority, sending U.S. troops to the southern border and pressuring the country’s top trading partners — Mexico and Canada — to secure their sides of the border and stop unlawful crossings and drug trafficking. Over the weekend, Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and the two countries quickly retaliated with 25% tariffs on U.S. goods.

Trump Pauses Tariffs On Mexico After It Agrees To Send Thousands Of Troops To Border

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that she is moving 10,000 members of the country’s National Guard to the U.S./Mexico border to stop drug trafficking. Sheinbaum made the announcement after speaking earlier in the day with President Donald Trump following his decision to hit the country with 25% tariffs for not doing more to stop the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. “Mexico will immediately reinforce the northern border with 10,000 members of the National Guard to prevent drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States, particularly fentanyl,” she said in a statement. “The United States is committed to working to prevent the trafficking of high-powered weapons to Mexico,” she continued. “Our teams will begin working today on two fronts: security and trade.” She also said that the Trump administration agreed to pause the implementation of tariffs for one month. Trump confirmed the news in a statement on social media, saying that they had “a very friendly conversation.” Trump said that the soldiers Mexico was sending to the border were “specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country.” “We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico,” Trump said. “I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a ‘deal’ between our two Countries.” This is a breaking news story; refresh the page for updates.
