What Is Jupiter’s Great Blue Spot And What Color Is It Really?

What Is Jupiter’s Great Blue Spot And What Color Is It Really?

Four hundred years after the discovery of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot a spot of a different color has been added‚ but its story is a bit more complicated. The first thing to know about the Great Blue Spot is that it does not emit or reflect light at around 450 nanometers‚ and therefore is not actually blue. Nor‚ despite our common association of blue with cold‚ is it related to Jupiter’s Great Cool Spot.Instead‚ the blueness appears on maps of the magnetic field. We can’t see magnetism‚ let alone in color‚ so a tradition has evolved that north magnetic poles should be portrayed as red and south poles as blue. This has nothing to do with the rare cases where magnetism does affect color‚ such as when iron-oxide nanoparticles present a rainbow spectrum depending on magnetic field strength. In the bar magnets many of us played with as children‚ this leads to a simple half-and-half marked with paint‚ but real-world magnetic fields are considerably more complex. Variations in field strength lend themselves to be shown in deeper or paler shades‚ as in the map of Jupiter’s field below. The Great Blue Spot is magnetically very south‚ but is located near Jupiter's equator.Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/SwRI/John E. ConnerneyNotably‚ Jupiter’s magnetic field is not like Earth’s‚ where the north and south poles are almost directly opposite each other‚ with both relatively close to the geographic pole. Even on Earth‚ there are strange anomalies‚ but one of the first things Juno revealed about Jupiter is that its field is stranger still‚ which turned out to include the Great Blue Spot. The first signs of this came in the concentrations of north and south magnetic fields revealed in the map above. With Jupiter’s Great Red Spot being one of its most familiar and enduring features (even if it has been shrinking recently) it was inevitable the south magnetic anomaly would be dubbed the Great Blue Spot.As reported this week‚ the Great Blue Spot has an atmospheric jet associated with it‚ demonstrating that the magnetic field anomaly is shaping the giant planet’s atmosphere. Exactly what is driving this remains unclear‚ but it does prove the Blue Spot matters. The Great Blue Spot is also the place where Jupiter’s magnetic field is changing the fastest. Back in 2019‚ Dr Kimee Moore of Harvard University said in a statement: "It is incredible that one narrow magnetic hot spot‚ the Great Blue Spot‚ could be responsible for almost all of Jupiter's secular variation‚ but the numbers bear it out."The causes of the Great Blue Spot have yet to be fully explained. There is no exact match in the Northern Hemisphere‚ with a long magnetic band instead and various other non-dipole regions. This has at least saved astronomers from needing to come up with a name that isn’t “The other Great Red Spot”.Jupiter’s magnetic field is thought to be a consequence of the highly conductive ocean of metallic hydrogen at its core. Exactly what it is about the metallic hydrogen that leads to such complexity high above is still a matter of speculation. Even when the Galileo spacecraft plunged into Jupiter’s atmosphere‚ it was never going to get remotely deep enough to collect answers before being crushed by the mighty pressure. So far‚ two things we have learned about the Spot are that it is migrating eastward‚ and is associated with zonal winds around 3‚500 kilometers (2‚100 miles) deep within the gas planet.Explaining the Spot is considered enough of a priority that it’s the focus of six fly-bys in Juno’s extended mission along with a greater focus on the moons.

In Under 70 Years‚ The Way We View Earth Has Massively Changed

Humans have been traveling around the world for as long as our species has existed‚ and after a while it became important to know where one is and where one can go. The oldest surviving maps are over 2‚500 years old‚ and since then humans' ability to create surveys of their surroundings has massively improved thanks to technological advances. But it's only recently that everything has changed. The technological inventions that brought those changes are in photography‚ optics‚ aviation‚ and aeronautics. Basically since the mid-1800s‚ humans have been able to produce visual records of the world around us‚ but it was not until the 1930s that we had photographs of the curvature of the Earth – from a modest altitude of 6.4 kilometers (21‚000 feet).Aviation showed that a bird's-eye view could provide new insights. A few years later‚ high-altitude atmospheric balloons breached a world record‚ reaching over 22 kilometers (72‚395 feet) and providing details about the atmosphere we had not seen before. But it was with the first satellites‚ and then astronauts‚ that our planet came fully into focus. The iconic image of Earth rising above the lunar horizon‚ as photographed from the Apollo 10 Lunar Module.Image credit: NASANASA has put together a wonderful collection of historic photos of Earth from high in the air and from space‚ as well as Earth from other planets. It shows what a special and yet fragile place our little corner of the universe really is. Those missions‚ whether crewed or robotic‚ deserve their kudos (and the photos are brilliant) but there’s a lot more to this that deserves our attention. To celebrate its 30th anniversary‚ NASA released this new version of the "Pale Blue Dot" image captured by the Voyager mission in 1990‚ a distant view of our planet.Image credit: NASA/JPL-CaltechThe first television image of Earth from space from the TIROS-1 weather satellite in 1960.Image credit: NASAThe first functioning weather satellite was launched 64 years ago. On April 1‚ 1960‚ satellite TIROS - Television Infrared Observation Satellite – began taking images of our planet. It revealed that Earth’s orbit is not a place from which to exclusively look at the great beyond. Space agencies are associated with astronomy and astronautics‚ but they also have fleets looking down on Earth. In six-and-a-half decades‚ we have gone from simple imaging to a wide array of space missions keeping an eye on all the changes in our planet.Clouds‚ precipitations‚ winds‚ ice sheets‚ electromagnetic fields‚ and gravity – everything is up for grabs. Satellites from NASA‚ the European Space Agency‚ and many others work independently and together to better understand what our planet is like and how it is responding to the climate crisis. These eyes from the sky provide fundamental data that informs many types of choices: from your weather-dependent outfit to international policies. Satellite information about our planet plays a huge role and continues to improve‚ with more sophisticated and specialized observers from the heavens.

Daily Show Warns Texas Is Being Invaded By... Republicans

Comedy Central sent Michael Kosta to Eagle Pass‚ Texas‚ to report on the border crisis for the Friday installment of The Daily Show‚ but according to him‚ the real crisis is about the reaction to the crisis as Texas is “attracting a flood of Republican governors‚ Congressional delegations‚ and even billionaire weirdos.” Kosta began with a narration where he declared‚ “Eagle Pass‚ Texas‚ has become the epicenter of the national immigration debate‚ as over the last year‚ an unprecedented number of migrants crossed here to apply for asylum. And for many observers‚ this complex issue can only be summed up in one word.” After playing five soundbites from an assortment of Republican politicians using the word “invasion” or “invaded‚” Kosta interviewed the locals to see what they had to say. One man claimed‚ “They’ve come and taken over the town.”     Another woman‚ who would later be revealed to be a farmer named Magali Urbina‚ added‚ “It’s our land and there’s just people coming in.” A second man‚ later identified as river outfitter Jessie Fuentes‚ echoed the sentiment‚ “They’re causing‚ you know‚ havoc and craziness.” Seemingly scolding another woman‚ Kosta wondered‚ “Shouldn't you be welcoming? Don't you have any empathy for the journey they have taken to get here?” “They’re not welcome‚ get the hell out of our place‚” she replied. The first man then returned to add‚ “You can't move around without seeing them. You can't get a meal in a restaurant. Can't get a hotel room unless you want to pay $400.” Kosta then dropped the act‚ “Wait‚ who are you talking about‚ right now?” to which the man replied‚ “The state Guard from Florida‚ Tennessee‚ Arkansas‚ Idaho.” The woman who told people to “get the hell out” was then revealed to be Maverick County Democratic Chairwoman Juanita Martinez who claimed‚ “The invasion here is from Governor Abbott and the Trumpers and the MAGA people.” If there wasn’t a border crisis in the first place‚ Republicans wouldn’t be there in the second place‚ but that is not how Kosta saw it “Yes‚ Eagle Pass has been overrun since Governor Abbott declared a crisis at the border and sent in the Texas National Guard‚ attracting a flood of Republican governors‚ Congressional delegations‚ and even billionaire weirdos.” The “billionaire weirdo” in question was Elon Musk in a cowboy hat. That aside‚ the entire point of Kosta’s segment was try to portray the border crisis as complicated‚ as evidenced by some people in Eagle Pass not wanting the GOP’s “help.” However‚ when it came to giving the other perspective‚ Kosta featured the most cartoonish voices he could find‚ including a guy with a Confederate battle flag‚ in order to portray those concerned about the original crisis as racists. Here is a transcript for the March 7 show: Comedy Central The Daily Show 3/7/2024 11:13 PM ET MICHAEL KOSTA: Eagle Pass‚ Texas‚ has become the epicenter of the national immigration debate‚ as over the last year‚ an unprecedented number of migrants crossed here to apply for asylum. And for many observers‚ this complex issue can only be summed up in one word.  GREG GIANFORTE: Invasion.  TED CRUZ: We are being invaded.  MARCO RUBIO: We are being invaded.  KARI LAKE: We’re being invaded. DONALD TRUMP: We’re being invaded just like it's a military invasion.  KOSTA: But how are the locals coping with its relentless onslaught?  MAN 1: They’ve come and taken over the town.  MAGALI URBINA: It’s our land and there’s just people coming in.  JESSIE FUENTES: They’re causing‚ you know‚ havoc and craziness.  WOMAN 1: There’s chaos.  KOSTA: Shouldn't you be welcoming? Don't you have any empathy for the journey they have taken to get here?  JUANITA MARTINEZ: They’re not welcome‚ get the hell out of our place.  MAN 1: You can't move around without seeing them. You can't get a meal in a restaurant. Can't get a hotel room unless you want to pay $400.  KOSTA: Wait‚ who are you talking about‚ right now? MAN 1: The state Guard from Florida‚ Tennessee‚ Arkansas‚ Idaho.  KOSTA: Oh.  MAN 3: What you need to be afraid of ours some of these convoys of people –  KOSTA: You’re talking about Central American caravans?  MAN 3: No‚ no we are talking about the that are invading the country here‚ not from Mexico.  JUANITA MARTINEZ: The invasion here is from Governor Abbott and the Trumpers and the MAGA people. KOSTA: Yes‚ Eagle Pass has been overrun since Governor Abbott declared a crisis at the border and sent in the Texas National Guard‚ attracting a flood of Republican governors‚ Congressional delegations‚ and even billionaire weirdos.

Sen. Britt Scolds Biden’s TikTok Hypocrisy: ‘Can’t Make This Stuff Up!’

Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) did not give President Joe Biden a pass on his hypocritical TikTok stance in her Thursday rebuttal to the contentious State of the Union address.  Britt’s message was blunt and clear: Biden can’t have his cake and eat it too.  “The CCP knows that if it conquers the minds of our next generation‚ it conquers America‚” she said‚ addressing Americans from her Alabama home. “And what does President Biden do? He bans TikTok for government employees‚ but creates an account for his own campaign.” Earlier in her rebuttal‚ Britt also implied that China is taking deliberate steps to subvert the United States. “China is buying up our farmland‚ spying on our military installations and spreading propaganda through the likes of TikTok‚” she emphasized. A startled Britt concluded: “You can’t make this stuff up!” Biden’s flip-flopping on TikTok dates back to December 2022‚ when he signed a spending bill that included the “No TikTok on Government Devices Act‚” effectively banning federal officials from using TikTok on government-issued devices. But less than two years later‚ Biden's re-election campaign joined the app during the 2024 Super Bowl. The move marked a desperate attempt to reach young voters ahead of the general election but also downplayed the president's previous disapproval of TikTok. Related: Hypocrisy! Basement Biden to Rein in Chinese Data Buying But Is Still on TikTok Such an about-face move drew the ire of critics‚ including MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider. “Joe Biden is openly defying the order he imposed on other federal employees by using TikTok to attack his political opponents‚” Schneider said‚ echoing Britt’s sentiments. Drawing attention to an imminent Supreme Court case on censorship‚ Scheider added: “At the same time‚ he is trying to defy court orders that would prevent him from coercing and colluding with TikTok to silence conservatives. These violations of our free speech rights must stop.” Following criticism‚ the White House unsuccessfully attempted to clarify that the Biden campaign's use of TikTok did not reverse the 2022 limited ban.  The Biden campaign retorted that it would take so-called “advanced safety” measures while using TikTok – whatever that means. “We are taking advanced safety precautions around our devices and incorporating a sophisticated security protocol to ensure security‚” the campaign claimed last month‚ clarifying it is not part of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S.’s investigation into TikTok. Notably‚ the White House supports the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. The bill grants Biden the power to ban TikTok unless it cuts ties with parent company ByteDance. ByteDance is a Chinese tech company that has emerged as having close ties to the Communist Chinese government. Conservatives are under attack. NBC Hypes ‘Energized’‚ ‘Feisty’ Biden’s ‘Mix of Energy‚ Humor‚ Combativeness’ at SOTU

Just as ABC’s Good Morning America on Friday got weak knees over President Biden’s State of the Union address‚ NBC’s Today followed suit by swooning over the “energized” and “fiesty” President’s “mix of energy‚ humor‚ combativeness” to deliver a “poignant” speech with “an optimistic view” on the economy standing up for “main street.” Chief White House correspondent and Saturday Today co-host Peter Alexander pulled together highlights‚ starting with hefty notes of praise: “President Biden delivering a mix of energy‚ humor‚ combativeness as well as plenty of ad-libs directed at his Republican critics. From President Biden a feisty State of the Union address...relishing the back and forth with Republicans.”     Amid a slew of interspersed Biden soundbites‚ Alexander boasted of Biden “looking to demonstrate he has the vigor and vision to serve another four years and sharply critiquing” Donald Trump “on Russia‚” “the Capitol attack”‚ and “abortion rights”. Like ABC‚ NBC’s Alexander saw no problem with Biden attacking the Supreme Court‚ which would almost certainly receive a different billing if he were a Republican: “President Biden vowing to restore Roe v. Wade if he has the chance and‚ in a rare moment‚ admonishing the Supreme Court justices in attendance for their role.” Alexander touched on the economy (“the President delivering an optimistic view”) and the border (“Biden blamed Republicans for rejecting a bipartisan security bill”)‚ but didn’t take notice of Biden referring to Laken Riley as “Lincoln Riley” when highlighted her murder allegedly at the hands of an illegal alien. Alexander closed his report in the first hour by touting Biden’s response to concerns on his age and a note about Steve Nikoui‚ who was arrested by Capitol Police for shouting during Biden’s speech about his late son‚ who was murdered by terrorists during Biden’s “chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan”.  Sadly‚ this made NBC the only broadcast network flagship morning show to bring this up (click “expand”): ALEXANDER: The President acknowledging his age — BIDEN: I know it may not look like it but I’ve been around a while. [LAUGHTER] ALEXANDER: — and using it to deliver a political point — BIDEN: The issue facing our nation isn’t how old we are‚ it’s how old our ideas. ALEXANDER: — trying to reframe the issue while contrasting himself with Mr. Trump. BIDEN: My lifetime has taught me to embrace freedom and democracy. [SCREEN WIPE] And other people my age see it differently. The American story of resentment‚ revenge‚ and retribution. That’s not me. LEXANDER: And‚ one note: A man who heckled President Biden last night was a Gold Star fathers whose son‚ a Marine‚ was among 13 U.S. service members killed during chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. That father was arrested for his outburst last night. As for President Biden’s performance‚ it really went a long way to ease Democrats’ concerns about his age during what was a 33-minute walk out of the chamber‚ a senior Democrat said to the President‚ “nobody’s going to call you cognitively impaired now”[.] Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker was next up and boasted of “Democrats...breathing a sigh of relief” about Biden 2024 because “they are thrilled” with how Thursday night went and “one Democrat” calling it “a total ten because the President was strong‚ because he was energetic‚ because he took on Donald Trump within the first four minutes of starting this speech.” “[W]hat are Republicans criticizing him on this morning? They say he was too partisan. They’re not criticizing him for a lack of energy and that was the point. And he took on the age issue head on‚” she added. Welker also brought up Biden attacking Republicans on the border and credited him for both “throw[ing] red meat to the base and also appeal[ing] to those Nikki Haley‚ moderate‚ independent voters.” Co-host Savannah Guthrie and senior business correspondent Christine Romans shifted gears to the economy‚ but Romans shilled for her fellow liberals by insisting that‚ while Biden’s speech were as though he was at a “kitchen table‚ on main street‚” the top issues for voters could very well be abortion and the border‚ not the border and the economy (click “expand”): GUTHRIE: [T]here are so many markers that show — ROMANS: Yeah. GUTHRIE: — the economy improving and when you look at consumer confidence‚ I know‚ it might be trending up right now — ROMANS: Right. GUTHRIE: — but generally people are not feeling this economy that the President is saying is so much better than where we were. ROMANS: And his lowest approval ratings are on the economy. Let’s be clear. So‚ you had‚ on yesterday a day when the stock market was hitting record highs‚ the President was not on Wall Street. The President was at the kitchen table‚ on main street‚ trying to show people I feel your pain.‚ I know you feel like you’ve been nickeled and dimed. This is what we’ve been doing over the past year. You know‚ look‚ let’s talk about tax fairness. Maybe these big corporations and these people that make $100 million or more a year should be paying a higher tax rate than you are and he really dug into this. There are two teams here‚ and I’m on your team. And that’s what the White House was trying to do‚ get him at the kitchen table with the American people because those poll numbers have been so low‚ but one thing that’s interesting in this town‚ a lot of people yesterday were telling me that they think that — that immigration and abortion could be the two really — the two really important things that drive people in the ballot box. Maybe it won’t be the economy. Maybe this will not be an economy election after all. As more time passes‚ people are feeling a little bit better about things. And‚ in the second hour ahead of report reairing large portions of his previous hit‚ Alexander had one last valentine for Biden‚ calling him an “energized” President who was “eager to show he is ready to fight” and “deliver[ed] a poignant and‚ at times‚ combative address.” To see the relevant NBC transcript from March 8‚ click here.

First‚ make sure the wipes are lying flat in their stack. Make sure to zip up the wipe pocket as quickly as you can‚ and be mindful of zipping it up all the way. I have a 9-year-old Cavapoo named Nora‚ and our list of travel essentials accumulated more items as she’s gotten older. I usually need a bag whenever we go out‚ and I was searching for one that could hold her dog walking supplies‚ her medication‚ and other essentials. I ordered my bag through Kibou’s online store‚ and it arrived within the standard shipping timeframe. As someone who’s always looking to shop more consciously‚ I appreciated Kibou’s minimal packaging. The bag came in a flexible‚ reusable nylon bag that I knew I’d use for future travels. The Kibou Vegan Leather Bag itself felt luxurious and durable. The vegan leather was made with high-quality material and didn’t have a cheap or plastic-like feel to it. I liked that the strap was adjustable‚ and the bag could be worn in multiple ways. One thing I do wish was for the strap to have softer edges or padding because it dug into my shoulder when I had placed heavier items in the bag. I have to say that I was most impressed by the attention to detail with the Kibou Vegan Leather Bag. This bag was designed to hold a wide variety of items. The front pocket was the perfect size for my phone‚ and it had sleeves that kept my credit card securely in place. The main pocket was quite spacious. I was able to fit a bag of treats‚ a couple of rolls of doggy bags‚ a tennis ball‚ my dog’s prescription medication bottle‚ and my keys‚ and I still had some room left. The keyring attached to the pocket also turned out to be extremely useful‚ and I used it to clip either my house keys or my dog’s collapsible water bowl. I loved that the back pocket was lined with waterproof material so that I could store some paw wipes. My Cavapoo has hair on her paws that are prone to tracking dirt and mud‚ and I used to have to carry a bulky pack of paw wipes with me whenever we traveled somewhere together. This pocket for wipes cleared up storage space for me and made clean-up so much more convenient for me. The padded mat was a nice feature‚ but I honestly didn’t really have a need for it. I ended up taking it out and using the extra storage space for paw wax that I used on my dog for winter walks in the snow. After testing out the Kibou Vegan Leather Bag‚ I’d recommend this bag to any dog owner. The minimal design makes it a great accessory for just about anyone‚ and the pockets keep everything you need in one place and in organized spaces. Check Price on Kibou Conclusion The Kibou Vegan Leather Bag is a worthy investment. It’s a high-quality bag that will last a long time and can store most of your dog’s basic travel essentials. Each pocket is thoughtfully designed‚ and you’ll be surprised by just how much will fit inside them. Ultimately‚ this bag will help you stay organized and stress-free so that you can just focus on enjoying the time you spend outdoors with your dog. If anything‚ you just might find yourself planning more excursions with your dog because traveling becomes much more convenient when you have a Kibou Vegan Leather Bag. The first rule of building a new society: Be fruitful and multiply

Balaji Srinivasan’s book‚ "The Network State‚" lays out a speculative roadmap for the formation of a new kind of political entity — an online community with its own laws and commerce that eventually grows and evolves to the point where it can acquire land and some of the other hallmarks of what we think of as modern statehood.I won’t attempt to summarize the book or the project here — Balaji himself provides a number of summaries of different lengths in the opener to the book — but I do want to zero in on one particular aspect of "TNS" that makes it quite a bit different from the kinds of libertarian startup city or “free state” projects that the pitch may call to mind for some readers: the one commandment. It re-establishes that the purpose of sex is reproduction‚ not self-actualization‚ pleasure‚ identity formation‚ or any of the myriad other things we use sex for. In contrast to both standard-issue democratic pluralism — which pointedly doesn’t take a side in most debates about ultimate values but instead aims to provide a neutral framework for unaligned individuals to peacefully pursue radically different ends‚ and to free-market ideology‚ which leaves “utility” undefined while trying to set up rules by which different utility maximizers can compete to the good of all — Balaji advocates that network states be explicitly and overtly ideological. The idea is that the community’s laws and markets are a vehicle for the working out of a single ideology‚ versus being an area where different ideologies vie for temporary dominance. That’s where the one commandment comes in.Balaji (he’s popularly known by either his first name or his Twitter handle‚ @balajis) writes:Communities Are Causes First‚ Companies Second Every new startup society needs to have a moral premise at its core‚ one that its founding nation subscribes to‚ one that is supported by a digital history that a more powerful state can’t delete‚ one that justifies its existence as a righteous yet peaceful protest against the powers that be.To be clear‚ it’s a huge endeavor to go and build an entire moral edifice on par with a religion and work out all the practical details. We’re not advising you come up with your own Ten Commandments! But we do think you can come up with one commandment. One new moral premise. Just one specific issue where the history and science has convinced you that the establishment is wanting. And where you feel confident making your case in articles‚ videos‚ books‚ and presentations. It’s interesting to me that the opening chapters of Shadi Hamid’s book "The Problem of Democracy" explicitly highlight the same motion in the post-Enlightenment West — i.e.‚ first came liberal values around individual rights and the primacy of the rule of law‚ then democracy and markets took shape afterward as an expression of those liberal values (and with the aim of securing individual rights).Like Hamid's book‚ Balaji's "The Network State" is not as concerned with preserving liberalism as it is with promoting a specific process (in Hamid’s case‚ that process is small-d democracy‚ and in Balaji’s‚ on-chain governance) that can accommodate a variety of ideological projects. Also‚ like Hamid‚ Balaji definitely has his own preferred set of ideological commitments that he'd like to build his own polity around — Hamid is personally committed to liberalism‚ while Balaji promotes a trinity of concrete ideals: truth‚ health‚ and wealth. But for both men‚ they’re okay with other people using the process (democracy and network states‚ respectively) to pursue very different ideological programs. Let a thousand internally aligned but externally diverse polities bloom.A proposed “one commandment” skynesher/Getty I’ve been involved with Balaji’s network state project in some form or another since the summer of 2021‚ so I’ve had a lot of time to think about what “one commandment” I’d propose if I were founding a new online community — maybe not an entire network state but something along the spectrum from “a chat room” to “an entirely new political unit.” I recently hit on a “one commandment” I’m happy with. Some readers will recognize it instantly‚ and among those who do‚ it may be polarizing. But hear me out: Be fruitful and multiply‚ and fill up the solar system‚ and subdue it.This is a variant of God's initial commandment to humanity in Genesis 1:28‚ but with “the solar system” substituted for the original’s “the earth.” I like this commandment for a few reasons.First‚ it’s pro-natalist. This commandment explicitly says that having children is not only good‚ and by virtue of who says it and when‚ it strongly implies that having children is the highest good. It’s the one thing you’re obligated to really get after in this life. As a pro-natalist‚ a father‚ and an anti-anti-natalist‚ I rate this commandment five stars. Second‚ it’s universal by design and tradition. Much later‚ rabbinic Judaism envisions a kind of Russian nesting-doll arrangement of divine commandments‚ where the Genesis commandment above applies to all humans‚ as does the later Noahic Covenant. So‚ I think many different kinds of people from different religious and secular traditions could sign onto this commandment.Next‚ it comes to me through a tradition that’s important to my own formation and to which I'm still committed: Christianity. But it’s older than Christianity and probably older than anything that’s recognizably Jewish. It re-establishes that the purpose of sex is reproduction‚ not self-actualization‚ pleasure‚ identity formation‚ or any of the myriad other things we use sex for. There are entire modern discourses‚ especially the current morass that is gender ideology‚ that stop even making any sort of intelligible sense when your context for thinking about concepts like “sex” and “male and female” is anchored in reproduction. If you sign on to it‚ then it forces you to put your money where your mouth is. Children are really expensive and a huge burden in modern‚ capitalist societies. If you’re going to be actively pro-natalist‚ this means having kids‚ which is undoubtedly the most significant financial decision anyone can make. It’s good that it’s divisive and forces you to make tradeoffs among fundamental goods and goals. For instance‚ pro-natalism has serious implications for women in particular and for their autonomy and freedom because women are the ones who have to carry the babies to term. If you’re going to do women’s rights and pro-natalism‚ then you really have to work at managing the tradeoffs there. Likewise‚ it also has implications for pretty much every other tradeoff in every other area you can think of. It doesn’t work as an adjunct to some other set of ideologies that can exist apart from it — no‚ it’s a term in every equation you’re trying to balance. One clear implication of the change I’ve made to the original commandment is that space exploration is good. The aim isn’t just to fill up the earth and subdue it but to fill up the solar system. It commands us to go to Mars and to the other planets and moons‚ and a whole set of technological advances will be required to enable that vision. Finally‚ there’s a clear win condition. It doesn’t leave the terms of success ambiguous or unachievable. When the group that has dedicated itself to filling up the solar system and subduing it has done so‚ then at that point‚ we’ll have fulfilled the one commandment and can figure out what’s next. I could probably think of other benefits to this one commandment if I were to keep going‚ but I think the list above is a good start. I also like my list because it explicitly acknowledges that there are tradeoffs and definitely downsides to pursuing a pro-natalist one commandment like this‚ but — and this is the really critical aspect of all One Commandments‚ whatever they are — it is definitionally outside of and prior to any kind of cost/benefit calculus. Every calculus has to start with a set of axioms‚ and the one commandment is the axiom.

Erica Samp's COVID fight: From healthy to heart monitor

I spent an entire hour of my show on Thursday talking about Sen. Ron Johnson’s (R-Wis.) most recent COVID roundtable‚ a full four years after the scamdemic first began manically manipulating our health and our freedom. And I promise to never stop spending time on this issue because I think it is the most important work I’ve ever done in my life or will ever do.COVID was a destroyer of worlds‚ and intentionally so. Nothing about it ever made sense except from a truly demonic perspective. I’ve talked to many of the same brave dissident experts that Johnson did‚ and the only conclusion one can reach from giving them a fair hearing is that somebody must pay for these crimes against humanity.“I felt like I was going to die at any moment because my body was just attacking itself.”There needs to be accountability for what they did to people like Iowa’s Erica Samp — one of the still countless people who emails me with their stories — so that it never happens again.“I was perfectly healthy prior to getting the Moderna vaccinations‚” wrote Samp‚ a 41-year-old mother of three.I should have been informed of the risks. I should have had the opportunity to know that there were side effects beyond just a sore arm for a couple days. I should have been told that the concoction is not even a vaccine by definition‚ and it does not even work to prevent COVID! I should have been given the choice to decide if the risks outweigh the benefits for me! I should not have been able to be forced and mandated to get the vaccine by my employer. I should not have been forced to choose between getting extra money to get the shots and having to pay more if I did not. All of this coercion and bribery and force at the same time the risks and data were hidden from us. How is that legal? I had a perfect life before I was used as a human guinea pig. We are human beings. We are real. We are not just statistics and numbers that billion-dollar corporations can hide and pretend like we do not exist.Unlike most who took the jab willingly as an almost religiously sacramental act of blind obedience to the Spirit of the Age‚ Samp wanted no part of it. In May 2021‚ however‚ she was backed into a difficult corner when her employer said‚ “Do it‚ or else.” Just like too many other corporate agents of tyranny at the time. Her then-2-year-old son was suffering from a medical condition‚ which‚ without proper treatment covered by her health insurance‚ could have quickly become a life-or-death matter. Yet‚ even though her job had remote capability and most of her company had already worked off-site for a year‚ her request to continue to work from home to avoid the jab while keeping her insurance was denied.Samp’s choice was either to play Russian roulette with her health or let her baby boy suffer. Most of us can see that’s not really a choice‚ just as more and more Americans can now see the poison poke was never “safe and effective.”“I have lost vision in my right eye‚ partial hearing in both ears‚ my brain is swollen with lesions‚ I have to wear a heart monitor‚ and I lose feeling in my hands and feet‚” Samp recently told me.Even though she had some issues immediately after the first dose‚ Samp said she was not informed of any potential side effects besides a sore arm and possibly being tired for a day or two. Then came June 24 and her second shot‚ and there was simply no denying thereafter that the loving act of keeping her boy safe and healthy was trying to kill her.“I felt like I was going to die at any moment because my body was just attacking itself‚” said Samp‚ who was referred to visit the Mayo Clinic in February 2022. “I spent days up there being put through every test possible. I had to suffer through needles in my spine to collect tubes of spinal fluid that left me with headaches for weeks that were unbearable.”She also had multiple IVs placed in both hands‚ and both of her eyes were dilated as strongly as possible so she could not see for more than 48 hours.“They placed a catheter in my artery for angiograms. I spent well over six hours having to lay in an MRI machine for brain and spine imaging while being forced to wear a paper mask as well as a plastic mask. I could not move or I would have to start the test over again‚” she said.“It all felt like torture.”And in the end‚ it was all for nothing. “They could not find any other cause for my injuries‚” Samp told me.Ain’t that some Wuhan luck for ya?And clearly‚ after four years of this demonic garbage‚ that’s the only luck our overlords will allow us to have.“Mistakes were made.” “We have to move on.” “But don’t forget to take that 10th booster!”Did I mention that somebody must pay for this?On that front‚ Samp has raised enough money to retain both a worker's compensation lawyer and a constitutional attorney. She plans to sue the federal government for willful misconduct in violation of the PREP Act‚ which otherwise provides immunity from liability for the government after responding to conditions determined to be a “present or credible risk of a future public health emergency.”Is that Anthony Fauci I hear cackling‚ “I am the science!” in the background? Liability? What liability? We aren’t seriously going to let Fauci and his assorted cast of Mengeles get away with this forever‚ are we? So let us pray for Samp and her cause. And in case you are wondering‚ imprecatory prayers will do just fine.

Andrew Schulz goes silent when RFK Jr. tells him how the DNC cheats

If anyone knows that the game is rigged‚ it’s presidential candidate and former Democrat‚ Robert F. Kennedy Jr. And he made that clear to a curious Andrew Schulz on the “Flagrant” podcast. “Who’s more corrupt?” Schulz asks RFK Jr.‚ referencing the DNC and the RNC. “Probably equally corrupt‚ but I don’t know‚” RFK Jr. tells Schulz‚ adding‚ “I don’t even know the metric by which you would measure that.” “But the DNC is really misbehaving. They’re really trying to block people. They try to block me‚ they try to block Trump. I’m not a fan of Trump‚ but I want to be on a level battlefield with him; I don’t want to beat him because a court threw him out.” “I think this persecution that the DNC has leveled‚ that people see that as unfair‚” he continues. “This is what they do in banana republics."Dave Rubin finds the conversation “refreshing.” “He is telling the truth‚” Rubin says‚ noting that while RFK Jr. won’t completely disparage the Democrats‚ he clearly knows they are more corrupt. “He knows the Democrats are worse than the Republicans. When the Republicans had their insurgency in 2015‚ an orange man named Donald Trump‚ the party maybe didn’t like him‚” Rubin explains‚ adding‚ “but they didn’t change any of the rules.” To hear more‚ watch the episode below. Christian snowboarding coach fired by school district for calling out boys competing against girls wins $75‚000 settlement

A high school snowboarding coach settled a case against Vermont educators and his school district after he was fired over comments he made about males identifying as female and competing in girls' sports.David Bloch‚ the founding coach of Woodstock Union High School's snowboarding team‚ filed a lawsuit in July 2023 following his termination for discussing the nature of transgender student athletes with two high school snowboarders. The lawsuit was reportedly settled against the Vermont Agency of Education‚ the Vermont Principals’ Association‚ and the school district that agreed to pay him $75‚000‚ which was 17 times more than his annual coaching salary.A United States District Court judge denied Bloch's reinstatement as a coach in December 2023‚ but Bloch filed a notice of appeal. He then agreed to drop the appeal request once he accepted the settlement.Bloch in February 2023 overheard a discussion between two of his team members‚ a male and a female. The pair were discussing a male competitor on the opposing team identifying as a female and competing in the girls' division. The female student in the conversation allegedly suggested the male was being "transphobic."Bloch reportedly joined their discussion and explained biological differences between men and women regarding DNA‚ physical development‚ and bone structure. He also stated that the male physique provided boys an advantage over girls in athletic competition. The coach also is a practicing Catholic‚ which reinforces his belief that "God immutably creates each person as male or female."Despite claiming that the discussion lasted "no more than three minutes" and was in no way "disruptive‚" Superintendent Sherry Sousa fired Bloch the following day.She claimed he violated the board's policy regarding "harassment‚ hazing‚ and bullying" by questioning "the legitimacy and appropriateness of the student competing on the girls' team to members of the WUHS snowboard team."The administrator even sent Bloch a letter that declared he "created an objectively offensive environment and constituted harassment based on gender identity‚" and as such his termination was justified. What's more‚ Sousa reportedly put a red flag on Bloch's record in an effort to prevent him from being rehired. The judge revealed in the December 2023 decision that Sousa "has a transgender child‚ who was previously on the snowboarding team‚ and felt the issue was an important one." The judge also noted that the school official "could have issued a warning‚ a reprimand‚ mandated training‚ or issued a suspension or any combination of these measures but instead chose termination."Like Blaze News?
