Mesmerizing: Two-Story House Floating In San Francisco Bay Has Locals Transfixed

During the recent total solar eclipse‚ millions of people across the United States gathered to enjoy this rare‚ special event. Meanwhile‚ some folks in the San Francisco Bay area had two unique sites to behold: the eclipse and a floating house. The wood-shingled‚ two-story home was first seen on April 7. It was being guided by a slow tow boat‚ and seemingly no one had any clue as to who owned it‚ why it was in the bay‚ or where it was going. Luckily‚ curious locals finally have many of the answers to the questions they’ve been asking&;#33; YouTube Turns out‚ this houseboat is originally from the Redwood City marina. This location used to house more than 100 people. Then‚ in 2015‚ the city began to evict residents after they filed lawsuits against the city. Residents were awarded payouts to relocate. Floating House Puzzles and Delights Locals in the San Francisco Bay Area This home is the last houseboat to be moved from the area. Its new owner‚ Phil Hott‚ plans to replace it with his current houseboat at a different location. Needless to say‚ the moving process hasn’t been all smooth sailing. “It was up a twisty channel‚ so you have to have the tide right and you have to come down without the wind blowing you into the bank‚” Phil says. “These things are very heavy. Then it has to travel through the Bay. And the winds and the tide changes and the current is going out. You don’t want it to drag you out to the Golden Gate Bridge.” Still‚ the home eventually arrived at its new destination in the Commodore Marina in Sausalito‚ much to the delight of Phil and the locals who became invested in this peculiar home’s journey. Or‚ as many have called it‚ the water version of the home in Pixar’s Up&;#33; You can find the source of this story’s featured image here&;#33; The post Mesmerizing: Two-Story House Floating In San Francisco Bay Has Locals Transfixed appeared first on InspireMore.

Jeff Slate: The ClassicRockHistory.com Interview

At one time‚ he was a punk rocker through and through‚ and maybe‚ to a degree. he still is. Though‚ these days‚ Jeff Slate’s licks are usually reserved for his muse’s deepest desires. Does that sound like a lot to take in&;#63; Yeah‚ maybe it is. Well‚ the idea of facing one’s muse is‚ anyway. But thankfully‚ Jeff Slate’s latest record‚ The Last Day of Summer‚ isn’t so much a matter of being too much to digest as it is about serving up the perfect dosage of musical ecstasy. As it should be‚ considering Slate has been banging around the punk The post Jeff Slate: The ClassicRockHistory.com Interview appeared first on ClassicRockHistory.com.

Ghostly encounters with canine spirits may help grieving pet owners

New research spearheaded by Jennifer Golbeck‚ an affiliate professor of computer science at the University of Maryland‚ reveals the therapeutic potential of perceived paranormal encounters with deceased pets. The study‚ which delved into the realm of social media to gather data‚ asked individuals who had lost a dog whether they had experienced any form of contact with their pet post-mortem‚ such as seeing their ghost‚ receiving a sign‚ or feeling their presence. The aim was to explore the nature of these encounters and their emotional impact on the bereaved owners. The findings were quite astonishing. A significant 37% of participants reported auditory phenomena‚ claiming to hear their dog’s bark or the familiar sound of their paws treading the floors of their homes. Visual sightings‚ sensing the dog’s presence‚ dreams‚ and even the sensation of the dog lying beside them were also common experiences shared by the respondents. What’s more‚ a substantial 76% of those who reported such encounters described them as positive experiences that provided reassurance and comfort during their grieving process. This stands in stark contrast to the traditional psychological view that externalized continuing bonds‚ such as seeing ghosts‚ are negative and potentially maladaptive. Professor Golbeck’s study sheds light on the nuanced ways in which people continue to maintain connections with their pets even after death. It suggests that‚ unlike encounters with human ghosts or other entities‚ which may often be perceived as unsettling or frightening‚ interactions with departed pets tend to be comforting and healing. This research opens up new conversations about the role of pets in our lives and the enduring bonds we share with them. It shows a reevaluation of how we perceive and handle grief‚ suggesting that there may be more to these paranormal experiences than meets the eye. They could‚ in fact‚ be a natural and helpful part of the mourning process‚ offering solace to those who have lost a beloved animal companion. A Typo&;#63; Or a Hoax&;#63; The Story of the Infamous Wicked Bible

The Holy Bible consistently ranks as the top selling book and the world. An inspiration to millions of faithful‚ it is seen by many as the direct word of God. Whether this is true or not is more a matter of belief. What is true‚ however‚ is that the very physical form the Bible takes is produced by the hands of fallible humans. The results of this collision between the human and the holy can be downright funny at times. One such incident occurred in 1631‚ when a seemingly innocent typo drastically changed one of the Ten Commandments. The resulting text caused quite a stir in its day. Known as “The Wicked Bible‚” those copies of the text that survived destruction remain today as one of the rarest and sought after printings of the Bible in the world. The Birth of Wickedness The story began innocently enough. King Charles I of England ordered 1‚000 copies of the King James Bible from London printers‚ Robert Barker and Martin Lucas. Now‚ it needs to be understood that printing then was not as simple as it is today. Early printing presses required printers to set each letter of type by hand. The process was painstaking and tedious‚ although it was leaps and bounds better than the previous method for producing books‚ which required people to laboriously copy texts by hand. Even so‚ printing was an error prone process‚ one that required careful proofreaders with sharp eyes to catch mistakes. Evidently‚ Barker and Lucas’ proofreader was bad at his job‚ because a critical mistake made it into the edition. It was not discovered until after the 1‚000 copy run was already being sold. One of the Ten Commandments‚ the seventh to be exact‚ was missing the word “not.” So‚ the text read: “Thous shalt commit adultery.” Needless to say‚ the mistake (if a mistake it was) caused a ruckus. King Charles I and the Archbishop of Canterbury were outraged at the typo. Barker and Lucas were hauled into court‚ where they were fined £300 (£35‚000 in today’s money) and stripped of their printing license. All available copies of the so-called “Wicked Bible” were rounded up and destroyed. It is said that only a dozen survived‚ although some question that number because so many copies were sold before the alteration was found. In any case‚ it is a rare book that is highly sought after by collectors. It is hard to place a value on such a text‚ as other factors such as the quality of the specimen enter into the equation. Taking that into account‚ one copy is listed at $99‚500. Most copies are probably worth far less‚ as this is a full retail price‚ but it does give an impression as to how much collectors might be willing to pay for this rare book. A typo&;#63; Or a prank&;#63; The generally accepted notion is that the infamous omission of the word “not” was a simple mistake resulting from the cumbersome and error prone 17th century printing process. However‚ there are some reasons to believe this might have been a deliberate act. The first is that there is another such error‚ this one in the Book of Deuteronomy. In chapter 5‚ verse 24‚ the word “greatness” was replaced with “great arse.” So the text read that God showed his glory and “great arse.” One unfortunate typo is one thing‚ but two starts to show a pattern. George Abbot‚ the Archbisop of Canterbury‚ thought the error was due to shoddy workmanship. He was quoted saying: “I knew the tyme when great care was had about printing‚ the Bibles especially‚ good compositors and the best correctors were gotten being grave and learned men‚ the paper and the letter rare‚ and faire every way of the beste‚ but now the paper is nought‚ the composers boyes‚ and the correctors unlearned.” It is interesting to note that he said that the composers were “boyes.” The errors do have a sophomoric nature‚ especially the “great arse” line. It sounds like something a bored teenager would slip into a text if they thought no one was looking. Perhaps the printers hired the late medieval equivalent of temp workers‚ and a disgruntled young man subtly altered the text of the print to thumb his nose at his employer‚ or simply for the fun of it. Maybe he expected the “corrector” to catch the error before the book printed. We can never know for sure whether this was the case or not. Simple human error could have inadvertently created one of the most infamous Bibles in history‚ but due to the nature of the “typos” a bored prankster seems more likely. Either way‚ the Wicked Bible will remain a historical curiosity‚ a testament to the fact that even humanity’s holiest works can be subject to a very human quality: imperfection. Column: NPR Morning Star Steve Inskeep Lamely Swats at Their Suspended Dissident

National Public Radio senior editor Uri Berliner has been suspended for his unauthorized critique of the insular liberal bias of his network. NPR star and Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep took to his Substack blog to slam Berliner’s article as “filled with errors and omissions.” “His colleagues have had a rich dialogue about his mistakes‚” Inskeep crowed‚ and dropped the bomb that it was “an article that discredited itself.” For example‚ Inskeep declared an error in that Berliner found in D.C. voter records that NPR had 87 registered Democrats and no registered Republicans. When he was asked about Berliner at the San Antonio Book Festival‚ he says he told them “I am a prominent member of the newsroom in Washington. If Uri told the truth‚ then I could only be a registered Democrat. I held up my voter registration showing I am registered with ‘no party’. Some in the crowd gasped. Uri had misled them.” Berliner didn't address if anyone was registered as “no party.” He did write there were zero Republicans. Did Inskeep refute that&;#63; No. Several NPR veterans harrumphed they registered as “no party‚” just as left-wing journalists will tell pollsters they are “independents.” Inskeep wrote‚ “While it’s widely believed that most mainstream journalists are Democrats‚ I’ve had colleagues that I was pretty sure are conservative (I don’t ask).” That rebuts Berliner how&;#63; When Inskeep challenged Berliner personally on his claim that the editing process was “frictionless‚” he said Berliner acknowledged they have newsroom debates‚ but “the real test is what we broadcast or publish.” Inskeep leaves out what Berliner wrote about – that they put out a lot of stories on “supposed racism‚ transphobia‚ signs of the climate apocalypse‚ Israel doing something bad‚ and the dire threat of Republican policies.” Anyone who listens to NPR programs gets an earful of those. You have to laugh when Inskeep’s best defense is “everybody else did it‚ too.” He admits NPR did not report on the Hunter Biden laptop‚ but Berliner “leaves out the context: Other organizations also held off on the story because of doubts about the laptop’s authenticity. It wasn’t confirmed until much later.”   Now who’s engaged in “omissions”&;#63; NPR not only refused to report on the laptop‚ their top news executive Terence Samuel openly boasted “we don't want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories‚ and we don't want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions.” That implies they weren’t going to touch this story‚ like it was a decaying rat corpse in the gutter. Samuel signaled the same contempt on the horribly named evening newscast All Things Considered in June of 2021‚ suggesting to anchor Mary Louise Kelly they should seek the &;quot;whole truth‚&;quot; but exclude the liars: “It's not a matter of representing just opposite voices‚ but more voices and excluding the voices that are just pure disinformation.” After those “other organizations” confirmed the laptop contents were real‚ nothing changed. Kelly brought on Samuel in 2023 to proclaim Trump would not be allowed to speak on NPR live as he was indicted because he was such a liar‚ but Kelly (as in 2021) didn’t bring up Hunter’s laptop. But the most ridiculous line in Inskeep’s critique is claiming Berliner advocates “viewpoint diversity‚” but he didn’t embrace it in his article‚ which spurred all his “errors and omissions.” If NPR is so committed to viewpoint diversity‚ would Inskeep agree to debate Berliner on air at NPR for an hour or two&;#63; Probably not. NPR hasn’t said one word on air about Berliner’s complaint.
