Rep. Colin Allred, the Texas Democrat challenging Sen. Ted Cruz in November, said he would support “fixing” the filibuster in part so that a hypothetical Democratic-majority Senate could pass an abortion bill that he claims would codify the Supreme Court’s 1971 Roe v. Wade abortion decision. Tim Miller, a former Republican and podcast host for The Bulwark, interviewed Allred, a former NFL linebacker and member of the House of Representatives, at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin on Saturday. Miller asked a softball question, suggesting that Allred (along with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris) is not as liberal as his critics suggest, but Allred took the opportunity to pledge to “fix” the filibuster. “If Kamala Harris gets in there, and if the Democrats hold on to the Senate, if Colin Allred gets in there and there’s 50 Democratic senators, they’re going to kill the filibuster, they’re going to pass the Green New Deal, they’re going to socialize health care, they’re going to expand the Supreme Court to 19 people … is that realistic?” Miller asked, suggesting that anyone who predicts these radical moves from Allred would be mistaken. Rather than taking the bait, Allred pledged to change the filibuster, a Senate rule that currently requires a 60-vote majority to pass certain forms of legislation. “The filibuster has to change because it’s broken,” the Democrat replied. “The history of the filibuster, as many Senate observers will know, is that it was used almost exclusively to block civil rights legislation, to block anti-lynching legislation. I’m a civil rights lawyer by training. This is personal for me.” (While opponents of civil rights legislation did use the filibuster, many others have employed the filibuster, as well, to kill countless other bills. It is no more than a legislative mechanism that can be used for good or bad purposes.) Allred noted that a previous version of the filibuster would hold up Senate business, while the new version of the filibuster applies “to every single bill, and you have a dual track,” where the Senate can pass other legislation while senators block specific bills through the filibuster. “It has contributed to hyperpartisanship and has actually made the Senate less functional,” he argued. Supporters of the current filibuster, such as outgoing Sens. Krysten Sinema, I-Ariz., and Joe Manchin, I-W.Va., argue that the 60-vote threshold prevents radical bills from passing the chamber and contributes to friendliness in the upper body of the legislature. “The whole point of the filibuster, like the whole point of the Senate itself, is to provide for a place where we can have considered, deliberative debate, and can forge compromise and consensus among our diverse and currently divided populace,” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said in 2021. Allred noted that in the House of Representatives, where he currently serves, the majority rules. “If you’re not in the majority, you have nothing,” he said. “The Senate doesn’t operate that way, and I don’t want to see it become like the House, but the current filibuster doesn’t work.” The Texas Democrat insisted, “I want to maintain the bipartisan nature of the Senate,” but he called for altering the filibuster in a way that would enable Democrats to “codify Roe v. Wade.” “And so, to me, we do have to reform it. We have to fix it. We have to go back to the original formulation for it,” he said. “That is also why we will codify Roe v. Wade and make it the law of the land.” But the Democrat did not explain how “fixing” the filibuster would help Democrats pass legislation to “codify Roe v. Wade.” In September 2021, Allred voted with most of his fellow Democrats to pass HR 3755, the Women’s Health Protection Act. He has co-sponsored the legislation, claiming that it “would codify Roe v. Wade into federal law.” Yet the bill goes further than Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision in which the Supreme Court reinterpreted the 14th Amendment of the Constitution to include a right to abortion. The court ruled that states could not ban abortion before the term of “fetal viability,” the point at which an infant can survive outside the womb. The court overturned that decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (2022), returning the issue of abortion to the states. While some states have restricted abortion to early in pregnancy before babies can feel pain, others have extended abortion up until the moment of birth. The Women’s Health Protection Act specifically states that the right to abortion “shall not be limited or otherwise infringed.” It would have allowed abortion providers to determine whether a pregnancy is considered “viable” or not, effectively enabling abortions at any point. “Make no mistake. It is not Roe v. Wade codification,” Manchin, who broke from his party and voted against the legislation, said in 2022. “It wipes 500 state laws off the books. It expands abortion.” Allred went on to suggest that banning abortion involves forbidding the removal of a nonviable fetus in an ectopic pregnancy (where the embryo lodges outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube). He noted that two Texas women sued hospitals, claiming the hospitals refused to treat their ectopic pregnancies for fear of Texas’ abortion law, yet he did not note that Texas law does not forbid treating ectopic pregnancy and that those procedures are not abortions. On the day of the first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and newly minted Democratic Party presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, numerous posts showing support for Trump or Republican policy positions were labeled “Adult Content” on X.  X labeled videos from the Trump War Room, Turning Point USA Founder and CEO Charlie Kirk,  Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and others with an “Adult Content” warning. The posts featured content including a Pennsylvania Trump supporter explaining why he is voting for Trump and a Rep. Byron Donalds(R-FL) interview comparing the U.S. economy before and after Joe Biden became president.  MRC Vice President for Free Speech Dan Schneider commented, “Elon Musk has been a true champion for free speech, but we have been warning for months that there is a radical remnant revolting against his leadership at the company. And just like before the Biden-Trump debate, we are again seeing how this renegade group is trying to hide information about the radical policies supported by Trump’s opponent.”  Trump War Room posted a video featuring a BBC interview in which a Trump supporter explained his distrust for Kamala. The account captioned its post “Former Pennsylvania steel worker: "I would believe Donald Trump. I don't believe Harris. She's been there three and a half years and hasn't done nothing." X inexplicably placed an interstitial over the post that read “X labeled this post as containing Adult Content.” Former Pennsylvania steel worker: "I would believe Donald Trump. I don't believe Harris. "Inflation when Donald Trump left office was 1.4 percent year-over-year,” he said. "When Joe Biden and Kamala Harris came into office, many states were already back to work — their economies were already opening. And when they wanted to do his 'American Rescue Plan,' which she co-signed because she was the tie-breaking vote, we told them on Capitol Hill, ‘You're going to create a labor shortage, which is going to create inflation,’" Donalds said in the video, which was quoted in part in the post caption. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) complained about the memes of Trump saving kittens and ducks from migrants. Both were also deemed “Adult Content.” Finally, Rep. Greene posted a video in which she explained the Save Act and the continuing resolution budget bill. Although X users can change their settings so that sensitive or “adult” content appears in their feeds, these settings default to censoring this content and in many cases content that does not obviously belong to one of those categories. The platform has since removed the labels on some of the posts. The Media Research Center has argued that continued censorship on the platform and other apparent errors may be due to a remnant inside X that continues to rebel against X owner Elon Musk’s stated free speech vision for his company.  Evidence of this ghost of Twitter past includes the fact that according to X’s own AI, Grok, the platform’s recommendation algorithm skewed in favor of Democrat politicians. X gives each account a “Reputation” or purported reliability and an account with a score below 65 will rarely if ever be recommended by X, according to Grok. MRC Free Speech America discovered that of 100 senators, the 43 lowest scores were nearly all belonging to Republican politicians.   Last year a couple of Twitter Trust and Safety employees also left the company after Musk reversed their decision to back out of promoting The Daily Wire’s “What is a Woman” documentary.  Conservatives are under attack. I have just walked away from the Democratic Party and joined the blue-collar billionaire Donald Trump’s new Republican Party. My political journey has been deep blue: John F. Kennedy and his brother, Robert, were heroes in my home. I was a Democratic National Convention delegate for Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama. I was a California co-chair for the re-election committee of President Obama. I served as California’s state Senate Democratic caucus chairwoman and Senate majority leader. The Democratic Party has turned into the party of censorship, authoritarianism, and imprisoning people for exercising free speech. And now I say goodbye, adios, to all that. I’ve had enough. I am now another near-lifelong Democrat joining many who have left the Democratic Party already. This is not the Democratic Party that I once championed. I don’t recognize it any more, and I cannot continue. A long and winding road It has been quite a political journey for me. As the daughter of Depression-era Democrats, I wrestled with how my long-deceased parents might have reacted to my decision. But I know that they too would agree that the party left us and what we had championed as Democrats long before I made my choice. Here are a few reasons why I decided to walk away. The so-called party of democracy erased 14 million votes, including mine, to install its preferred candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris. Even before that, Democrats rigged the primaries to block viable candidates from participating fairly. They used lawfare tactics, and in the end, political elites handpicked “our” candidate like a banana republic-style dictatorship using the dedazo. Essentially, they executed a political coup in plain sight. The Democratic Party has made a bold move toward authoritarianism and censorship. President Reagan warned that fascism would arrive in America disguised as liberalism, and as a former executive board member of the Southern California ACLU (now completely missing in action), I saw individual freedoms being stifled. As Donald Trump faced indictments on trumped-up charges, I realized that a new American gulag system had emerged under the guise of “democracy.” Watching language change so drastically has been terrifying. As a feminist and former university professor, I would now face condemnation for defining a woman and distinguishing between biological sex and gender identity. I once marched to Helen Reddy’s anthem, “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar,” but the new so-called party of women is dismantling Title IX protections. As a mother, I refuse to call myself a “birthing person.” While I am pro-choice, I cannot support abortion up to the ninth month. Whatever happened to safe, legal, and rare? Bringing an abortion taco truck to the DNC mocked life and trivialized a decision that is anything but “joyful.” The Democratic Party has turned into the party of censorship, authoritarianism, and imprisoning people for exercising free speech. It has abandoned veterans at home while sending millions overseas and profiting from international business deals. Wars abroad and at home The Trump-led Republican Party has become the party of peace while Democrats have marched toward endless war. Kamala Harris, specifically, has refused to speak the names of the 13 American soldiers whose lives were sacrificed for a photo op in the horrific, botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. She boasted about being “the last one in the room” but cannot run from the blood on her hands. Anyone who has ever helped a family bury their child can feel that pain. I will always remember Clarence Griego, just 20 years old, as my hometown laid him to rest during the Vietnam War. I watched with horror women being kidnapped, blood dripping in Israel, on October 7. The Democratic Party has forsaken Israel to win a swing state. At our universities, Jewish students have been threatened and assaulted. I went to Auschwitz some years ago, and no one can ever step inside that crematorium and return to America and say it’s OK not to remember. Yet on our hallowed American campuses, it’s been horrific. The Democratic Party has turned its back on the working class, becoming the party of the elites and big donors. Democratic leaders lecture us how to sacrifice our liberties under the burden of COVID-19, climate change, and rampant inflation while they feast with their friends and big donors at the French Laundry. Grocery prices have soared. Some 39% of Americans say they’ve skipped meals to make ends meet. My family was in this country before the border crossed us in 1848. I have long embraced pathways to citizenship, but I reject the mockery of citizenship and the throwing open of our southern border by the ineffective border czar. People around the world flock to America — we should insist on maintaining what citizenship means. My biggest disillusionment with the Democratic Party is its refusal to support school choice and quality education for all — especially for poor and minority children trapped in chronically failing schools. They constantly cater to powerful, wealthy teachers' unions. Harris, who often touts her past as a prosecutor, betrayed those values when she went to the California Supreme Court on behalf of the teachers' union to overturn a court victory won by parents and mostly low-income, minority students trying to reform key laws that keep ineffective teachers in their classrooms. Harris also bragged about jailing mostly poor mothers for their “truant” children who weren’t attending California’s failing schools. In doing so, she and the Democratic Party stifled the American dream and the education that could lift low-income, minority children out of poverty. In Harris’ hometown of Oakland, even today, about 75% of Latino and black students are not proficient in reading or math. Free at last I have witnessed the best of America — a nation that reached the moon and beyond. But today, under the Democratic Party, our American landing feels like quicksand, sinking the hopes and lives of Americans. Livelihoods are being destroyed by drug warfare fueled by open borders and the terrible effects of Bidenomics. The Democratic Party positions itself as the party of freedom, liberty, and democracy while it has become “1984” in 2024. So I finally had to walk away. I stayed for as long as I could. I tried reforms, I spoke out, I voted. Today, I turn to the future — to an America that still shines, despite glaring inequities that must be eradicated, as a land of opportunity and free speech. I am excited to join a party that was started by the greatest American — Abraham Lincoln. The challenges of building a great republic will require all of us. Today, I join the Republican Party to make America great again, and I am ready to do my part as America prepares to vote. I thank the many people who have welcomed me into the America First big tent. I feel free at last.

Haitian immigrants eating their neighbors' pets on the streets of America likely wasn’t on your 2024 bingo card — but that doesn’t matter, because it’s happening anyway. And it’s not happening in big cities but in small towns that are being completely overrun by immigrants, like Springfield, Ohio. The town boasts 60,000 residents, who have been overwhelmed with up to 20,000 undocumented Haitian immigrants. The influx has placed immense strain on local infrastructure, public safety, and essential services. Now, the community is in absolute chaos. “How did this happen? How did we get here?” Sara Gonzales of “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered” asks. “That is not bringing in a few people to help some folks out,” guest Jack Posobiec comments. "That is clear and obvious operationalized immigration flow.” Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, was hit especially hard during the 2020 pandemic, as the country is incredibly reliant on food imports, which account for 50% of all available food. “When that happened, they saw violence, they saw crime that reached epic proportions, they had warlords who were fighting to control all of the little food supply that they had, and so they had a lot of Haitian migrants who fled the area,” Gonzales explains. One concerned citizen took the podium at a Springfield City Commission Meeting and said that while he doesn’t blame the immigrants for where they’re from, he does blame the people who are bringing them to Ohio. “That’s what they’re used to, bro,” the man said. “They’re in the park, grabbing up ducks by their neck, and cutting their head off and walking off with them and eating them.” “Import the third world, become the third world. It really is that simple,” Gonzales comments, noting that the mainstream media and the left have been working overtime to claim that none of this is really happening. One Springfield, Ohio, citizen also sent out a warning to neighbors, writing, “Warning to all about our beloved pets & those around us!!” The citizen wrote that her neighbors’ daughters’ friend had lost her cat — only to find it hanging from a branch like a deer would be for butchering. “They were carving it up to eat,” she explained, adding, “I’ve been told they are doing this to dogs, they have been doing it at Snyder Park with the ducks and geese, as I was told that last bit by the rangers and police.” Another video circulating on social media shows a woman getting arrested after killing and eating a cat on the street, though whether or not she’s a Haitian immigrant has been a source of controversy. Gonzales is horrified. “I don’t care what your culture is in Haiti, okay? I don’t care that you come from the third world.
