Whoopi Goldberg demanded jail time for former President Donald Trump, claiming that if he was not put behind bars it would “give anyone permission to do what he said he could do, which was shoot people on 5th Avenue.” After Goldberg and her cohosts on ABC’s “The View” shared their giddy celebrations over the former president’s conviction in the Manhattan hush-money case, the tone turned to his sentencing and whether or not Trump might spend some time behind bars. Goldberg first said that it was “great to see that our justice system can work,” complaining that up to this point, because Trump hadn’t already been convicted of something that would either put him behind bars or prevent him from returning to the Oval Office, it hadn’t seemed to her as though that was the case. “I want them to give him six months,” she said, claiming without offering any evidence that young people looked up to Trump because he never had to face any consequences. Former federal prosecutor Sunny Hostin followed, saying that her “sources” inside District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office were telling her that the prosecution was looking for a year. “When you spend a year in prison in New York or under, you serve in Rikers Island,” Hostin explained, pausing to flash a smug smile at the audience.
