For those who don’t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week’s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed. Sunday’s media spin focused primarily on the southern border and the situation which, according to President Joe Biden and his media apologists, wasn’t a crisis until it was – and once it was a crisis, it was Congress’ responsibility to deal with it. Biden — who spent the first few days of his presidency dismantling former President Donald Trump’s border security initiatives and the next three years claiming that the resulting mess either wasn’t his fault or wasn’t happening at all — issued an executive order on Tuesday that he claimed would regain control of the border. That order — and whether or not it would have any impact whatsoever on the millions who have crossed the border illegally on Biden’s watch — were the topic of much discussion on Sunday. On ABC’s “This Week,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told Martha Raddatz that the goal of the order was to discourage people from making the dangerous trek to — and then across — the southern border. He spoke with Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures,” and he argued that the problem was only going to get worse. “As long as the Biden administration refuses to provide any type of enforcement, any type of blockage of people crossing illegally, all that this new Biden policy is going to do is to actually attract and invite even more people to cross the border illegally,” he said. “There’s no slowing down of people crossing the border,” he continued. “In fact, it’s just accelerating. This is gaslighting our fellow Americans. When Biden gets up and says, ‘This is going to stop people from coming across the border,’ when he says, ‘It’s going to secure the border,’ in fact, it is making illegal border crossings worse.” The majority of Americans appear to agree with Abbott, at least according to a new CBS/YouGov poll. That poll, as “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan pointed out on Sunday morning found that only 20% of Americans believed that President Biden’s border policies would decrease the flow of illegal immigrants coming across the border and into the United States. Another 30% believed that Biden’s policies would have no impact at all, while nearly half, 49%, said that illegal border crossings would continue to increase under Biden. According to that same poll, 70% believed that former President Donald Trump’s policies would decrease the number of illegal border crossings. Just 5% said that Trump’s policies would lead to an increase in border crossings, and 24% said that they would not change the number at all. Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) spoke with Brennan about the poll and defended Biden. CBS News polling found only 20% of voters believe President Biden’s border policies would decrease the number of migrant crossings. When asked if his latest executive action on the border is too late, Biden campaign co-chair Sen. @ChrisCoons says, “No, I don’t think it is…the… pic.twitter.com/uJnHU8Ax7G — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) June 9, 2024 When Brennan asked Coons whether Biden had waited too long to take action on the border – after insisting for months that he couldn’t take action alone — he brushed off any concern. “No, I don’t think it is [too late],” he said. “The American people understand the difference between substance and showmanship.” Others — including former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki — have admitted that Biden issued the executive order because he found himself politically vulnerable as poll after poll indicates that the American people view illegal immigration and Biden’s failure to keep it under control as a key issue going into November’s election. “There needs to be something that’s done, but also, politically, this is one of the biggest vulnerabilities,” Psaki said. “And regardless of who’s mad about the details of what’s in here and what isn’t in here, it’s a political vulnerability for the president and his campaign. They know that. They knew they would have to do something like an executive order before the election politically as well. And that’s what we’re seeing play out.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (FL) released video footage over the weekend that showed the moment a police sniper shot through a computer monitor to kill a bank robber who took hostages. The incident happened in February when an unnamed 36-year-old man armed with a knife and claimed to have a bomb entered a Bank of America branch in Fort Myers. “He had two hostages at this point and we tried to negotiate with him continuously,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said at the time. “At one point during negotiations he became physical, he started to put one of the hostages in a headlock and he had the knife to her throat.” “SWAT team was in place, when he presented deadly like that, our SWAT sniper shot and killed the suspect,” he added. Police said in a video released on Saturday that the sniper rested his rifle on the shoulder of one of the other SWAT team members as the team stood in the lobby of the bank. The sniper shot through a computer monitor and struck the suspect in the center of the forehead, killing him instantly, police said. The moment the sniper takes the shot, the suspect’s head is blurred in the video to spare viewers the graphic scene. On Monday, the Biden administration will once again undermine the government of Israel, as a vote will be taken on its resolution to the U.N. Security Council that would demand Israel immediately implement a ceasefire, just two days after the spectacular Israeli operation in which they rescued four hostages. The resolution cites the “importance of the ongoing diplomatic efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States aimed at reaching a comprehensive ceasefire deal, consisting of three phases,” then states that it “Welcomes the new ceasefire proposal announced on May 31, which Israel accepted, calls upon Hamas to also accept it, and urges both parties to fully implement its terms without delay and without condition.” But Israel never accepted the ceasefire deal Biden posted on May 31, when he claimed on social media, “Israel has now offered a roadmap to an enduring ceasefire – and the release of all the hostages. Yesterday, this proposal was transmitted by Qatar to Hamas. Today, I want to lay out its terms for the world.” Biden posted a graphic that included three phases, as follows: Phase 1 A complete ceasefire Withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas in Gaza Release of some hostages and some remains of hostages Palestinian civilians can return to their homes in Gaza A surge in humanitarian aid Phase 2 A permanent end to hostilities Exchange for the release of remaining living hostages Israeli forces withdraw from Gaza Phase 3 Major reconstruction plan for Gaza Final remains of hostages are returned to their families But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office immediately debunked that claim, saying that the actual Israeli proposal allowed “Israel to continue the war until all its objectives are achieved, including the destruction of Hamas’s military and governing capabilities. The actual proposal put forward by Israel, including the conditional transition from one phase to the next, allows Israel to uphold these principles.” Nearly 12 hours later, Netanyahu’s office issued a second statement that was even more pointed in countering Biden’s claims. “Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: The destruction of Hamas military and governing capabilities, the freeing of all hostages and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel,” the statement said. “Under the proposal, Israel will continue to insist these conditions are met before a permanent ceasefire is put in place. Media organizations smeared right-wing parties in Europe over the weekend after they gained serious traction in elections across the continent as backlash grows to the political Left’s radical climate agenda, inflation, and the millions of migrants that have come from the Middle East and Africa. News organizations, from The New York Times to Reuters to the Associated Press, labeled right-wing parties as “far-right,” “extreme right,” and “radical right.” Meanwhile, left-wing socialist parties were simply labeled as “center-left” and “pro-democracy” parties. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing Brothers of Italy party also made significant gains in Italy. Europe’s Green parties and globalist left-wing parties suffered the largest losses in the European Union’s Parliamentary elections. POLITICO noted that if hard-right parties formed a single group, they would be the second most powerful force in the E.U.’s parliament behind the center-right European People’s Party. In previous elections, radical right parties talked of leaving the European Union or its single currency, echoing the calls of British Brexiteers. Now these parties want to influence it from within.” The New York Times: “The outcome has unsettled the bloc’s mainstream establishment and seems likely to steel the far-right as a disruptive force.” The Washington Post: “For years, we’ve talked about a seemingly inexorable trend: Little by little, Europe’s far right was gaining ground and nudging its way closer to power. Political firewalls against extremist factions once considered beyond the pale tumbled from country to country. The ‘cordon sanitaire’ erected by more mainstream parties against the putative descendants of Europe’s fascist movements had collapsed. The far right, headlines blared, was on the march. The initial results of the European Union’s parliamentary elections may point to a definitive arrival. Across the continent, and especially in some of its biggest countries, far-right parties produced strong or record results.” Axios: “The center held in some countries, but a surge by the radical right — especially in Germany — has put pro-democracy parties on notice.” The Associated Press: “Far-right parties rattled the traditional powers in the European Union and made major gains in parliamentary elections Sunday, dealing an especially humiliating defeat to French President Emmanuel Macron. And even if the Alternative for Germany extreme right party was hounded by scandal involving candidates, it still rallied enough seats to sweep past the slumping Social Democrats of Chancellor Olaf Scholz.” Many of these trends reflect political winds in the U.S., where voters overwhelmingly disapprove of the job that President Joe Biden is doing, especially after millions of illegals have stormed into the U.S., energy prices have skyrocketed, and inflation has wreaked havoc on families. Presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump remains polling ahead of Biden — despite a recent felony conviction, which may be overturned — and has made serious inroads with young voters and minority communities.
