Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer) says he loves Taylor Swift

Born in San Pablo, California back in 1964, Gary Holt started his musical career in 1981, first achieving fame as the guitarist, bandleader and main songwriter of the Thrash Metal band Exodus. But in 2011 he joined Slayer in 2011 temporarily, as a replacement for Jeff Hanneman but eventually became a permanent member after Jeff's death in 2013. So Holt was always involved with heavy music but as he told Scandalous Podcast (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), he always loved Pop music, including Taylor Swift. Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer) says he loves Taylor Swift "I love Taylor Swift. Why all the hate? She's an extraordinarily hard worker. She's super fu**ing nice to everybody, and people hate her. She's just the biggest pop star on Earth, and more power to her. I like the songs. I love pop. I listen to pop mostly in the car, you know, I don't listen to metal [while driving]. I just recently started exploring my Sirius subscription [laughs]. Okay, you know, there's some heavy sh*t on here, but I'd rather listen to George Michael myself." "Beyoncé will put out a song and there's 30 fu**ing people on it. How can 30 people write a song, all gathered together? It's like, you're not a song, right? Beyoncé... some of these other people require massive teams. It's just like a factory of songwriting. Who even knows who did what anymore, when there are like 20 names on it... I don't know, but yeah, I got no hate for Taylor." He continued: "She's a good person on top of anything else, not that I know her, but hey, she tipped off the truck drivers 100 grand... Beyoncé, what are you tipping your drivers? Probably nothing. I don't know. Maybe she's super generous. I think Beyonce is the most overrated talent on Earth. I think she's marginally talented." "I'm not a Swiftie, but when 'Trouble' comes on the radio, I don't change it. It's alright. I like it. I like pop music. Always have, though, even back in the 'Bonded by Blood' era. I'd be out on tour with Venom, and I'd be drunk at the bar, singing every word to Madonna's 'Angel'. And Cronos was shaking his head, like, 'What's wrong with this guy?' But I've always liked pop music," Gary Holt said. The Rolling Stones already had once the highest-grossing tour of all time (“A Bigger Bang Tour” – 2005 to 2007). Since then many other artists have had more profitable tours than that one and one of them is Taylor Swift. Nowadays, she has the most profitable tour of all time, which is called “The Eras Tour”. With 60 dates from 2023 to 2024, the tour made more than 1 billion and 39 million dollars. Until now she released 11 studio records, 5 EPs and four re-recorded albums of her discography. She is currently the solo artist with the most weeks at number one on the United States Billboard 200 chart. In 2023 she was the most streamed artist in Spotify, with 26.1 billion streams. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNoKguSdy4YThe post Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer) says he loves Taylor Swift appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Bruce Kulick says that people who say Kiss is simple are idiots

Kiss was formed back in 1973 in New York City by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley, becoming in the following years one of the biggest bands in the world. But during the five decades the band was active the only two constant members were Gene and Paul, so the group had many lead guitarists and drummers along the way. One of them was the guitarist Bruce Kulick, who was part of the band from 1984 to 1996, when they were not using makeup. Although the band has millions of fans and have sold an estimated amount of more than 100 million records worldwide, there are also a lot of people who don't like their music. Many of them say they were really simple. In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Kulick said those people are idiots and explained why they are wrong. Bruce Kulick says that people who say Kiss is simple are idiots "Nobody could play it better than those guys the way they performed it," he explains, using the solo in "Detroit Rock City" as one particular example."Anyone that considers Kiss simple or easy music to play, they’re idiots. This stuff is hard. It’s just that the band never got credit that way and it always should," Bruce Kulick said. Bob Kulick's younger brother, Bruce was also a member of bands like Union with John Corabi (1997 to 2002) and Grand Funk Railroad (From 2000 to 2023). But he is active in the music business since 1968 and was part during the past decades of many Kiss conventions, even performing with Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons sometimes. As a session guitarist, he recorded with names like Ronnie Spector, Don Johnson, Bret Michaels, Todd Rundgren, Lordi and Avantasia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_RKO5ozLVo&pp=ygUMZm9yZXZlciBraXNzThe post Bruce Kulick says that people who say Kiss is simple are idiots appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Iron Maiden won’t play songs Nicko McBrain can’t play anymore

The drummer Nicko McBrain (72) joined Iron Maiden in 1982, replacing Clive Burr, who played with the band on their first three albums. He was a crucial part of the band during the past four decades and continues even after suffering a stroke last January 2023. He only revealed that months after the health issue and said that he was partially paralyzed for a while but intensive physical therapy regained his mobility. However, during one of his recent shows with his side-project Titanium Tarts, McBrain talked to the crowd and talked about the support of his bandmates. According to him, he said that if are songs he can't play, they just won't play them live anymore. Iron Maiden won't play songs Nicko McBrain can't play anymore (Transcribed by Ultimate Classic Rock) “I’ve gotta be honest with you: it was a touch and go last year for me. I couldn’t play; I was paralyzed on the right side. Fortunately… there’s a girl called Julie Blum that looked after me, and in three months, she had me playing again.” “And it ain’t the old Nicko – it’s not the old one by a long shot. But at least it's part of me. And my band, bless their hearts, Steve Harris and the rest of the guys turn around and say, ‘If you can’t do something in a song, we just won’t do that song.’” He continued: “Now, there’s a middle section (In 'Somewhere In Time'); it’s all snare drum on the record. I can’t play it. Those of you nerds that are in the audience [will] go, ‘He didn’t do the drum fill!’ Well, that’s why – I fucking can’t do it! … Steve turned around to me and I said, ‘Okay, I’ve got an idea. if I do the double on the snare…’ and I played it for him and he went, ‘No. Have you got anything else?’I went, ‘Yeah, I’ll play it on the cymbal.’ ‘No. You got anything else?’’ That’s me spent, mate.’ … [H]e thought about for about half a minute…and he’s going, ‘Why don’t you play it straight?’ “I went, ‘You’re a fucking genius, Harry!’ And there’s me, the drummer, supposedly, supposed to come up with all these ideas… I didn’t even think of that. And so we rehearsed it from there on in, and we play it straight – which I’m sure 90 percent of you don’t give a fuck about that bit anyway!” Nicko McBrain said. https://youtu.be/nWKqAHERrxsThe post Iron Maiden won’t play songs Nicko McBrain can’t play anymore appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Listen to this organ in Croatia that uses the sea to make hauntingly beautiful music

In 2005, a Croatian architect designed a 230-foot-long organ that turns the rhythm of the waves into actual music. Nope, not nonsensical bellows or chaotic tones. Real, actual, music. Most of us have never seen, or heard, anything like it.Imagine walking along the picturesque Adriatic Sea, treading lightly on a set of white stone steps as a cool breeze rolls past.Carved into the steps are narrow channels that connect to 35 organ pipes, each tuned to different meticulously arranged musical chords. As the waves lap against the steps, they push air through the pipes and out whistle-holes in the surface above, making a harmonious and completely random musical arrangement. But you don't see what's happening below the surface. You close your eyes and all you hear is a song like you've never heard before, one completely unique to the movement of the sea at that exact moment.Take a listen: Here's what it sounded like at one particular moment, on one particular day. On any other day, it might sound completely different.(Hit the orange button to hear it.)srb445 · Sea Organ, Zadar, CroatiaPretty amazing, right? The Sea Organ, or the Morske Orgulje, is an incredible feat of architecture designed to bring life back to one of the world's oldest cities.Zadar, a 3,000-year-old city on the coast of Croatia, was almost completely destroyed in World War II –– so many of its ancient landmarks lost forever. Years after a rebuilding that featured lots of plain, concrete structures, award-winning architect Nikola Bašić was brought in to bring some delight back to the coastline. That's when he came up with the idea.No doubt he was inspired by the hydraulis — a nifty little instrument built by the ancient Greeks that used water to push air through tuned pipes — or even the Wave Organ in San Francisco — a set of curved tubes built in the 1980s that amplify the gurgles and howls of the Pacific Ocean. But the intricate design of the Sea Organ is what sets it apart and makes it truly something to marvel at.This article originally appeared on 11.06.15

Family posts a very chill note to neighbors explaining why their dog is on the roof

If you were taking a stroll through a quiet neighborhood and happened to catch a glance of this majestic sight, you might bat an eye. You might do a double take. If you were (somewhat understandably) concerned about this surprising roof-dog's welfare, you might even approach the homeowners to tell them, "Uh, I'm not sure if you know...but there's a...dog...on your ROOF."Well, the family inside is aware that there's often a dog on their roof. It's their pet Golden, Huckleberry, and he just sorta likes it up there. To put passersby at ease and ebb the parade of concerned parties knocking on their door, Huckleberry's human put up a note explaining the whole weird scenario to those interested:It reads:"Huckleberry is living up to his name and learned how to jump onto our roof from the backyard. We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball!""We appreciate your concern but please do not knock on our door... we know he's up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world! #hucktheroofdog."Of course, they ended it with a hashtag for photos shared on social media. Also, it seems a little strange that the owners mention that Huck is willing to jump 10 feet off a roof to chase food or a ball, but do nothing to suggest that people refrain from urging their dog to make that (seemingly dangerous) leap. Maybe Huck's got the whole process down to the point it's just not a concern. This may seem like a pretty odd phenomenon, but not so odd that there isn't a whole corner of Reddit devoted to dogs who just seem to really, really enjoy roofs. It's called r/dogsonroofs, and boy does it ever deliver on that name. This article originally appeared on 12.05.18
