Do You Remember Your First Rock Concert? Share Your Story Here

Do you remember your first time? We are talking rock concerts‚ my friends. Most people have very fond memories of their very first rock concert. How old were you when you attended your first rock and roll concert? Who did you go with? In the ’60s‚ ’70s‚ and ’80s‚ most teens attended their first concert with friends. It is unlike now‚ where many parents bring their kids to concerts‚ hoping to turn them on to classic rock bands. It usually never works. I took my kid to see a classic rock artist when he was only 12‚ and all he The post Do You Remember Your First Rock Concert? Share Your Story Here appeared first on ClassicRockHistory.com.

SFWA Names Susan Cooper the 40th Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master

News Susan Cooper SFWA Names Susan Cooper the 40th Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Cooper is best known for the brilliant Dark is Rising sequence By Molly Templeton | Published on February 8‚ 2024 icon-comment 0 Share New Share Twitter Facebook Pinterest RSS Feed The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association has announced that the recipient of the 40th Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award is Susan Cooper‚ the author of many beloved and acclaimed novels for young readers. She is best known for the award-winning five-book sequence The Dark is Rising‚ which began with 1965’s Over Sea‚ Under Stone and concluded in Silver on the Tree (1977). The Grey King‚ the fourth book in the series‚ won the Newbery Medal. Before becoming a full-time writer‚ Cooper was a journalist working for London’s Sunday Times. Her work also includes two biographies‚ several screenplays‚ many picture books‚ and books for young readers including The Boggart‚ Seaward‚ and Ghost Hawk. In 2002‚ she received the Hans Christian Andersen Award‚ an international prize given to creators of children’s books. In 2012‚ the American Library Association recognized her with the Margaret A. Edwards Award for “significant and lasting contribution to young adult literature.” She can now add to that list the SFWA Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award’s recognition for “lifetime achievement in science fiction and/or fantasy.” Previous recipients of this award include Robin McKinley‚ Mercedes Lackey‚ Nalo Hopkinson‚ Peter S. Beagle‚ Connie Willis‚ Ursula K. Le Guin‚ Ray Bradbury‚ and many more SFF luminaries. SFWA President Jeffe Kennedy said: “Susan Cooper possesses the rare gift of being able to write for young people with a resonance that endures all through their adult lives. I feel as if The Dark Is Rising books have always been a part of my life. I memorized poems and passages from those books‚ which I can still recite today. When I first began writing fantasy of my own‚ I slipped in images and names from her stories in homage and celebration. It’s truly a great honor for me to name Susan Cooper as the 2024 Grand Master‚ a writer so foundational to the fantasy genre‚ for both readers and readers who became writers.” The award will be presented to Cooper at this year’s SFWA Nebula Conference and the 59th Nebula Awards‚ which take place June 6-9‚ 2024‚ in Pasadena‚ California. For more details‚ see the conference website.[end-mark] The post SFWA Names Susan Cooper the 40th Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master appeared first on Reactor.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Will Set Sail on a Second Season

News Percy Jackson and the Olympians Percy Jackson and the Olympians Will Set Sail on a Second Season Sea of Monsters‚ here we come! By Molly Templeton | Published on February 8‚ 2024 icon-comment 0 Share New Share Twitter Facebook Pinterest RSS Feed The adventures of Percy Jackson and his friends Annabeth and Grover are far from over. The charming Disney+ adaptation of Rick Riordan’s middle-grade novels has officially been renewed for a second season—which will find them messing about in boats in The Sea of Monsters. According to Disney‚ the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been streamed for more than 11o million hours. The adaptation stars Walker Scobell as Percy‚ Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth‚ Aryan Simhadri as Grover—and a whole host of well-known adult actors as various gods‚ goddesses‚ and monsters‚ including Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes‚ Toby Stephens as Poseidon‚ Megan Mullally as the fury Alecto‚ Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus‚ Glynn Turman as Chiron‚ and Virginia Kull as Percy’s extremely wonderful mom‚ Sally Jackson. The late Lance Reddick appeared in the first season’s finale as a very elegant Zeus. The adaptation was created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg; Steinberg is co-showrunner alongside Dan Shotz. Steinberg and Shotz also worked together on the brilliant‚ underseen pirate series Black Sails‚ meaning they have some idea what they’re in for as Percy Jackson tackles the watery setting of much of The Sea of Monsters. “Despite the fact that I swore I’d never do ships or ocean again‚ somehow the universe has put the lie to that. But there’s so much that you learn from spending all that time on the water. You can’t help it pick up some things. So we’re to the good in that direction at least‚” Steinberg told The Hollywood Reporter. The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is available on Disney Plus. No premiere date‚ or even year‚ has been announced for season two.[end-mark] The post <;i>;Percy Jackson and the Olympians<;/i>; Will Set Sail on a Second Season appeared first on Reactor.
