As if the Olympic rings were not stunning enough on their own, spectators got an extra special treat earlier this week. The Eiffel Tower was truly a sight to behold as the full moon perfectly lined up inside the 2024 Olympic rings. While people were amazed by the stunning photos, it got people wondering about the meaning behind the rings. The Olympic rings are a global representation of the Olympic Movement and the activities that accompany it. According to Olympics.com, “the Olympic symbol expresses the activity of the Olympic Movement and represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games.”  Although the rings in the photos from the Paris Olympics are white, there are variations with color. “When used in its five-colour version, these colours shall be, from left to right, blue, yellow, black, green and red.” When Is The Full Moon? Gautam Ramuvel/Unsplash Full moons occur about every 29.5 days, or once a month. Those 29 some days are roughly the amount of time it takes for the moon to complete a lunar cycle. Using math, calendars, and calculations it is relatively easy to predict when the next full moon should be. For example, the next full moon is estimated to be on August 19th. With the perfection of this photo, you almost have to wonder if the placement of the rings, and the date of the Paris Olympics was an intentional choice. While I bet it was just sheer luck, that does not make the photos any less spectacular. It almost looks as if the moon was playing with the rings. Starting off in the bottom left ring, and then moving into the center ring. Finally, to end beneath the center ring, almost as if it was a new, sixth Olympic ring. It truly was an incredible sight that all those who gathered for the Paris Olympics were lucky enough to enjoy. In the EU, Apple has been forced to allow third-party iOS app stores, and several months after the rule came into effect, one of them, AltStore PAL, released the first apps. Other than weakening the grip Apple has on what its users are allowed to use on their phones, the AltStore’s move is notable for including only one app that is already in the giant’s store. Even more notably, Apple users in the EU can now install torrenting apps – the type of software that is banned from the official store, because Apple has chosen to associate this otherwise legal protocol and clients with “often” being used to infringe on copyright. But now, AltStore has iTorrent, a torrent client, and qBitControl, a qBittorrent remote client in its initial offer. In a series of posts on social media, those behind the third-party store said that it contains apps Apple users can’t find anywhere else (with the caveat, however, that this may be the case “unless Apple changes their rules again…”) The posts said that what they call initial recommended sources have been inspected to comply with safety standards, and instruct users on how to update the store and get the new apps. Explaining iTorrent, AltStore developers said that it allows iPhones to have the same functionality that’s been available on computers for decades, namely, the use of peer-to-peer networks. qBitControl, on the other hand, allows users to remotely control qBittorrent installed on their computers. The one app that is in already the Apple Store (although it was first banned there, but then allowed just this month, and its developers say thanks to AltStore) is UTM SE. It is a virtual machine that emulates other operating systems (such as Linux and Windows) on macOS on iOS. AltStore suggests it is particularly popular for playing retro games that were previously unavailable on Apple’s OS’s. Finally, there’s PeopleDrop, a social discovery app with a focus on dating, which AltStore likens to the functionality of 3DS StreetPass, but this time needing only one device, with PeopleDrop running in the background and automatically discovering other users in close proximity. 'Bizarre': Hamas Rejects Israeli Proposal Before Receiving It, But After ...

Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) revisited a huge Media Research Center (MRC) victory over a public-private partnership to censor publications on the right. McCormick spoke with MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider about the successful attempt to add a ban on government funding of NewsGuard censorship campaigns into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). McCormick issued a dire warning: the government is seeking to “weaponize the agencies like NewsGuard.”  McCormick said, “Now they want to use our taxpayer monies in the defense industry to hire industries like–NewsGuard which would keep people off of Newsmax and other conservative venues.” He explained how NewsGuard rates publications according to its biased standards of what is “true” or “factual” and said that failing their metrics will have severe consequences for the publications and their advertising, which is needed to survive. Three studies conducted by the MRC have demonstrated that NewsGuard is extremely biased in favor of the left. The MRC’s most recent study showed that NewsGuard gave an average rating of 65% to publications on the right while giving an average rating of 91% to publications on the left. NewsGuard has a long history of rating left-wing sources far higher as demonstrated by earlier MRC studies.   The congressman highlighted this absurd bias at NewsGuard, attacking the pro-censorship group for targeting news sources such as One America News (OAN), Newsmax and Fox News. “So it's actually a biased way to keep you from being, just like ESG in investment, they continue to divest from investing in conservative venues,” he said. As a former fighter pilot, McCormick discussed the role of conservatives in the armed forces, expressing outrage that NewsGuard and the government targeted patriotic Americans and their news sources. “The most conservative venues are where you get those heritages of people who enlist in the Army, in the Marines, in the Navy, in the Air Force, they’re trying to basically weaponize the agencies like NewsGuard to keep them away from advertising. It steals millions of dollars away from conservative venues and that needs to be ended,” he said. In 2024, McCormick and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) led the passage of the 2025 NDAA, which included a pro-free speech provision effectively banning the Pentagon from contracting with NewsGuard and other outlets that target the advertising of right-leaning outlets.  Congress passed similar language a year prior for the 2024 NDAA. “This year’s NDAA will refocus our military on its core mission of defending America and its interests across the globe,” Johnson told MRC at the time. Echoing Johnson’s remarks, McCormick stated, “Congress has a real opportunity to do something about that by reining in for-profit censors that have been funded by our own government like NewsGuard and GDI. Joe Biden is no longer the Democratic presidential nominee. After weeks of heartburn from the Democratic political establishment — and the unique spectacle of the media finally holding the Democrats accountable for their dishonesty — Biden announced this week that he would be dropping out of the presidential race. That announcement followed his disastrous debate performance against Donald J. Trump, a performance that demonstrated to a flabbergasted America that the president of the United States is fully addled. Biden tried to deny it for weeks; some played along; most did not. Eventually, Biden's abysmal poll numbers, combined with strong-arm tactics from political mafia boss Barack Obama and consigliere Nancy Pelosi, forced Biden from the race. There are a number of lessons to be learned from this extraordinary chain of events. First, as Lincoln apocryphally said, you can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. For years, we were told that behind closed doors, Joe Biden was cracking the secrets of cold fusion, even as we saw with our own eyes that he was in a state of continuous mental collapse. The power of the media only extends so far. Second, while the political parties have lost much of their former power, they still exist — and they still have teeth. Democratic Party bosses and money men tossed out 14 million votes in favor of Joe Biden in the primaries because the polls looked bad. It's that simple. Biden didn't drop out because he suddenly discovered that as a patriot, he simply couldn't lead America forward any longer. He dropped out because it was made clear to him that either his political brains or his signature would be on his resignation papers. Third, the Democratic Party still has a few unbreakable rules, the most important of which is that no Black woman can be supplanted, no matter how bad a candidate she is. The newfound Democratic enthusiasm for hideously unpopular Vice President Kamala Harris has odor but no substance. Few Democrats are excited about Harris; they're more excited that Biden is gone. But Harris herself is a preternaturally flawed candidate: corrupt, radical and dishonest. She ran an all-time stinker of a presidential campaign in 2020; during that campaign, she somehow achieved the signal political feat of coming out against fracking, guns and private health insurance — sure winners in swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. As Biden's supposed "border czar," she has presided over the worst border crisis in American history; she is tied at the hip to his awful record. Then there's the fact that she is a charmless copy of Hillary Clinton, with the unfortunate addition of a Joker-like involuntary laugh that could break glass. But Democrats can't get rid of her. To do so would be to crack their intersectional coalition. And since 2012, Democrats have been running on that coalition ... over and over and over again. It has only worked once, and that time only because Democrats radically changed every voting rule. But Democrats are wed to the strategy. And they won't divorce it now. All of which means that Donald Trump still has the electoral advantage in 2024, should he choose to take advantage of it. He'll have to be more disciplined than he has been against a walking corpse like Biden; he'll have to focus on Harris' record rather than her unlikability or lack of qualifications. But anyone who proclaims that Harris' entrance into the race means that she is now the frontrunner simply isn't living in the world of reality. In the meantime, we bid a not-so-fond farewell to the candidacy of Joe Biden. Now only one question remains: If he's too senile to run, why isn't he too senile to remain president for the next six months?
