House Passes Measure to Stop Noncitizen Voting in Federal Elections

The Republican-controlled House voted 221-198 Wednesday to require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act, known as the “motor voter law,” to require that states obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship from someone before he or she may register to vote. Five Democrats voted for the legislation, but 198 Democrats voted against it. President Joe Biden opposes the legislation and it’s not likely to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate, where Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, sponsored a companion bill. “Over the past four years, Joe Biden has welcomed millions upon millions of illegals into the country knowing that noncitizens only have to check a box to vote in a federal election,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a public statement. “We have long known this was an intentional effort to turn them into voters, and now the American people know where every member of Congress stands on this critically important issue.” My statement on the passage of the SAVE Act: pic.twitter.com/Id1v9zEDqz— Speaker Mike Johnson (@SpeakerJohnson) July 10, 2024 The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, also would require states to remove noncitizens from the voter rolls. ?“I dare [Democrats] to vote no against a bill that says that only citizens – AMERICAN CITIZENS – should vote in American elections.”#SAVEAct pic.twitter.com/Rz7LuOvftQ— Rep. Chip Roy Press Office (@RepChipRoy) July 10, 2024 “I kind of dare them to vote no on a bill supported by 81% to 87% of the American people,” Roy said Wednesday on the House floor, referring to Democrats. “I dare them to vote no on a bill that says only American citizens should vote in American elections. I dare them to go ahead and follow a president who has put out a policy against a bill, the purpose of which is to guarantee citizens are the ones who get to vote in American elections.” The House bill also would empower U.S. citizens to bring civil suits against election officials who don’t uphold proof-of-citizenship requirements for federal elections. It also allows for integrating existing databases at the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to expedite the requirement for states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls.  Although it’s already illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections, there is no mechanism to ensure that only those registering or voting are actually citizens, Johnson has said. Johnson, R-La., noted that Virginia last year removed 1,500 registrants from the voter rolls who were noncitizens, and 22% had cast ballots. The states of Massachusetts and Ohio removed noncitizens from voter rolls in recent years. Georgia found that 1,600 noncitizens attempted to vote.  “American citizens will be protected and in no way harmed by this bill,” Johnson said Wednesday on the House floor. “There is not a conceivable argument that the Democrats can make to oppose the commonsense measures that we’re putting before them today. Nothing changes the voter registration process in the states.” “The only people who will face hurdles here are those who are trying to break our federal laws,” the House speaker said. “And that’s why it’s patently absurd that the White House issued a veto threat. They issued a veto threat.” In 2017, Pennsylvania Secretary of State Pedro Cortes resigned after the state admitted to registering illegal immigrants for several years.  More than 10 million illegal immigrants and millions more paroled aliens have entered the country since Biden took office in January 2021. The Biden administration has released at least 4.6 million illegal aliens into the United States in addition to 1.8 million known “gotaways,” according to Roy’s office. This is a breaking news story and may be updated. The post House Passes Measure to Stop Noncitizen Voting in Federal Elections appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Ben Shapiro on Capitol Hill: ‘NewsGuard Has Penalized Us Openly for Being a Conservative Site’

The Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro took discredited leftist website ratings firm NewsGuard to task during his explosive testimony against advertiser group collusion. On July 10, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), a World Federation of Advertisers initiative, which allegedly exploited its control of 90% of world advertising dollars to starve conservative websites of ads. Shapiro, whose publication has frequently faced demonetization and censorship on social media, testified against GARM. The Daily Wire editor and GOP members of the committee bashed GARM for allegedly violating antitrust laws and showing flagrant bias against right-leaning voices. They also shed light on bias at NewsGuard, the discredited source GARM uses for identifying sources of misinformation.  “GARM and other organizations like it have worked in conjunction with [the Global Disinformation Index] and NewsGuard to set standards and again those standards are purportedly objective, in practice they rarely are, and so NewsGuard for example has penalized us openly for being a conservative site,” Shapiro said. When Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL) asked Shapiro about how GARM’s “misinformation” sources— namely NewsGuard and GDI—have impacted The Daily Wire, Shapiro said that they used their unclear standards to harm the reputation of conservative publications.  “The lack of transparency in the standards is actually a weapon that's used against one side of the political aisle and I keep asking the question over and over and over again: Can NewsGuard name a major right-wing outlet or conservative outlet that it deems brand safe? Can GARM do the same?”  Shapiro went on to argue that NewsGuard and GARM had let The New York Times and CNN off the hook for misinformation. Shapiro agreed that right-leaning and leftist publications received wildly different treatment before declaring that, “a huge percentage of those ad dollars are still going to purportedly objective or leftwing outlets and virtually none are going to right-wing outlets.” Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) also bashed NewsGuard, citing a 2023 study by MRC Free Speech America Associate Editor Joseph Vazquez to prove NewsGuard bias. Specifically, he said, “NewsGuard ranked leftist media organizations on average a 91 on a zero to 100 scale, right-leaning organizations a 66.” NewsGuard grew even more biased later in 2023, as this 25-point difference grew to a 26-point difference.  Drew asked Shapiro to provide examples of the absurdity of NewsGuard’s refusal to hold the left accountable while demonizing the right. “The list is extraordinarily long,” Shapiro told him before listing off the media attacks on the Covington Catholic kids at the March for Life; covering for President Joe Biden by calling embarrassing videos of him “cheap fakes” and the ravings of MSNBC host Joy Reid. Shapiro added legacy media’s rhetoric accusing former President Trump of Russian Collusion Shapiro summed it up brutally, “The list is endless which is precisely why, if you look at the Gallop polls and levels of trust in media, levels of trust in media right now are at all-time lows. They were at about 50% back in, say, 2005 and today they're south of 30%. There's a reason for that they've blown out their credibility but that doesn't seem to blow out their credibility with GARM or NewsGuard.” Conservatives are under attack! Conservatives are under attack! MSNBC Is Being Dragged to Trial in $30 Million Defamation Suit By Doctor

When it rains, it pours for the liberal media. While CNN is facing a $1 billion defamation suit for allegedly slandering a security contractor, MSNBC was on the receiving end of a $30 million defamation suit for allegedly doing the same to a Georgia gynecologist who was seeing illegal immigrants at the direction of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). And in this instance too, the judge found that a jury could potentially find “actual malice” on MSNBC’s part. According to Judge Lisa Godbey Wood’s order for the case to go to trial (no trial date has been set yet), plaintiff Dr. Mahendra Amin “has presented sufficient evidence that could enable a jury to find actual malice” because of extensive internal communications and notes from MSNBC  hosts,  producers, reporters, and Standards and Practices folks questioning the report even before going to air. “A jury could also conclude that NBC did not act with actual malice given the evidence that it published opposing information. This duel of conflicting evidence must be resolved by a jury,” Wood added. The suit stems from a series of on-air reports conducted between September 15 and 17 of 2020. In their reports, MSNBC reporters Julia Ainsley and Jacob Soboroff and hosts Nicolle Wallace, Chris Hayes, and Rachel Maddow parroted a letter of unverified whistleblower claims that Amin was abusing female illegal immigrants he was seeing as patients, performing unnecessary hysterectomies, and that he was known as the “uterus collector.” But while they took that reporting to literal prime time, internal discussions at the network showed skepticism of what they were saying. In an email to Soboroff and Ainsley, the senior deputy of NBCUniversal’s Standards and Practices, Chris Scholl had deep concerns about the validity of the report, evening noting that all the information they had came from one source he admitted had “an agenda”: As I’ve been mulling, my concern is all we have is a public whistleblower complaint in which she provides no evidence to back up her claims. ICE makes essentially the same point, and it appears a valid one. She has no direct knowledge of what she’s claiming, is unable to name the doctor involved (if I understood correctly), and we are unable to verify any of it or determine whether there really is a story here. Essentially, it boils down to a single source—with an agenda—telling us things we have no basis to believe are true. At the least, we would have to note all of that in our reporting, but then it’s worth asking why we are reporting it in the first place. I think we need more of our own independent reporting before going with this. ICE’s statement alone doesn’t get us there. In a conversation that included Hayes, Scholl admitted: “We don’t know if [Amin] did anything wrong here . . . . In fact, the guy has a pretty clean record.” Adding: “And the whistleblower has no direct knowledge of this stuff . . . . [S]he kind of has a beef, right? She’s got a whole separate agenda here.” Hayes said the quiet part out loud in that “the reason it went viral” was because it “conjured the worst kind of like Third Reich, . . . sort of . . . Jim Crow, Mississippi Hospital history.” Essentially, it fit perfectly into the narrative they had painted about the Trump administration and it’s immigration policies. Hayes admitted all of that, “is not the case here.” Maddow also had expressed concerns about the story in a production meeting and was unsure they should give it airtime on her show: In a preproduction meeting, a producer for the show said that the “hysterectomy part [of the whistleblower letter] is largely based on [Wooten] and anon[ymous] accounts.” Id. at 3. Maddow commented that there was “a lot of jumping to conclusions around the complaint . . . I don’t want to assume it’s true[,] but if it is we should definitely do it. Unsure if we should leave room in the show or not.” It’s worth noting that this case exposed how things run behind the scenes at the sister networks. Despite NBCUniversal’s outward façade that MSNBC and NBC News were separate opinion and news divisions, it was all a charade as reporters and executives moved effortlessly between the two. Biden biographer exposes the 'red flag' he saw inside Biden's White House: 'I'd never heard of that before'

The author of a Joe Biden biography revealed Tuesday that he believes the Biden administration is the most "scripted" White House in modern American history. Last year, author Chris Whipple published his book "The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden's White House," which covers the first years of Biden's presidency. The White House granted Whipple significant access to Biden's inner circle for the book, which ultimately produced in Whipple a unique perspective about the Biden administration. 'You can look at it two ways: This is obviously a White House with either with something to hide or just obsessed with controlling the narrative.' In an interview on CNN, Whipple shared what he learned. Despite granting him unique access, Whipple told CNN anchor Abby Phillip that control is baked into the DNA of Biden's administration. "The thing to understand here is that the DNA of this White House is controlling the narrative. And I can tell you, having written a book about it, that this White House is the most battened down, buttoned up, scripted White House in modern history," he alleged. Not only does the White House control its narrative, but access to Biden is tightly supervised — even for his biographer. "While I was able to interview in real time almost all of Joe Biden's inner circle, when it came to Biden himself, the deal was: Written answers to written questions," Whipple revealed. "I'd never heard of that before." Phillip then asked Whipple if he viewed the extreme level of control as a "red flag," a question he answered in the affirmative. "You can look at it two ways: This is obviously a White House with either with something to hide or just obsessed with controlling the narrative," he explained. Later in the interview, Whipple revealed that he has spoken with one of Biden's "closest friends," who believes the president needs to undergo a full battery of cognitive testing. "I will tell you that one of the president's closest friends thinks that Joe Biden should go up to Walter Reed, have a complete neurological exam, release the results, and let the chips fall," Whipple said. "Now, I don't think that friend has said this out loud to Joe Biden because that's a hard thing, even for a close friend, to tell him," he added. "But I don't think he's going there without a major push." Although Biden has reportedly not undergone extensive cognitive testing, the White House continues to claim the president is in good health. Suspect in brutal shopping mall murder got no jail time from left-wing prosecutor after previous felony arrest: Report

One of the suspects accused of brutally murdering a 68-year-old woman outside a posh mall in Newport Beach last week reportedly got no jail time from the office of left-wing Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón after a previous felony arrest.Citing interviews and records it reviewed, the Los Angeles Times reported that the murder suspect in question — 26-year-old Leroy Ernest Joseph McCrary — was placed on probation for stealing a Rolex at gunpoint in Santa Monica in 2022, avoiding prison time after L.A. County prosecutors agreed to a three-year suspended sentence. The Times added that Nathan Hochman — Gascón’s opponent in this November's election — said Gascón’s 'malpractice appears to have cost another life.'The Orange County District Attorney's Office said McCrary on July 2 ran over New Zealander tourist Patricia McKay and dragged her body 65 feet amid a violent robbery of the victim and her 69-year-old husband at the Fashion Island mall, adding that McCrary is eligible for the death penalty if convicted of a special circumstances murder charge. Photo by Smith Collection/Gado/Getty ImagesMcCrary faces additional felony charges of attempted second-degree robbery and evading while driving recklessly, the Orange County DA's office said, adding that he has prior felony convictions for residential burglary, criminal threats, and robbery, all in Los Angeles County. The Times noted the following in regard to the 2022 incident:Santa Monica Police Lt. Erika Aklufi said surveillance video in that case showed McCrary putting a handgun to the head of a man on Broadway. He and an accomplice demanded the man’s watch, she said.McCrary’s DNA also was recovered from the victim’s shirt, which he’d grabbed during the robbery, police said.Prosecutors charged McCrary, who had been arrested by L.A. police a month later, and Donta Baker with robbery in the Santa Monica case based on the DNA evidence, according to court records reviewed by The Times. The Times said McCrary pleaded no contest in 2023 to one count of robbery, after which L.A. County Superior Court Judge Cathryn Brougham sentenced him to three years. But the paper said Brougham suspended the sentence and placed McCrary on two years’ probation, also ordering him to complete 200 hours of community service. The Times added that McCrary’s suspended sentence ran concurrent with another suspended sentence following a conviction for possessing a gun as a felon in a separate case the LAPD investigated. The paper said that while Brougham ordered the completion of a probation report before McCrary’s sentencing, courthouse clerks could find no report upon the Times' request. Probation reports typically provide sentencing recommendations along with defendants' probation suitability, the paper added. The Times reported that L.A. County prosecutors defended their handling of the case related to stealing a Rolex at gunpoint, a case which officials said “had significant problems with proof.”More from the paper:A spokesperson in the district attorney’s office said an inability to identify the defendant in the surveillance video hampered the case. Two witnesses were unable to identify the suspects, the spokesperson said, noting that the robber’s face was not shown in the video because he was wearing a mask. She also said that prosecutors were unable to identify the item in the suspect’s hands, and that a confirmatory DNA test was never conducted on the robbery victim’s shirt, which called into question its accuracy.“As a result of these issues, the management team ... authorized a plea offer that allowed [him] to be placed on probation with a suspended state prison sentence,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement, the Times reported.Opponents of Gascón told the paper that the handling of the case demonstrates how his office has been mismanaged. The Times added that Nathan Hochman — Gascón’s opponent in this November's election — said Gascón’s “malpractice appears to have cost another life.”Anything else? The two other suspects in last week's brutal killing in Newport Beach are Malachi Darnell and Jaden Cunningham, both 18, the Orange County DA's Office said. (L to R) Jaden Cunningham; Malachi DarnellImage source: Orange County (Calif.) District Attorney's OfficeThe DA's office said McKay and her husband were waiting for a ride after finishing shopping at the mall when a white Toyota Camry pulled up next to the couple. The DA's office said two masked suspects — later identified as Darnell and Cunningham — jumped out and attacked McKay’s husband, putting a gun to his head and demanding his watch as they forced him to the ground as bystanders ran away. When the pair couldn't get the husband's property, Cunningham is accused of throwing McKay to the ground, stealing her shopping bags, and dragging her into the street in front of the getaway car, which McCrary was driving, the DA's office said. With McKay lying in front of the Camry, McKay’s husband jumped in front of the vehicle in an effort to stop his wife from being run over, but McCrary is accused of accelerating forward with Darnell in the vehicle, pushing McKay’s husband out of the way, and running over McKay and dragging her body 65 feet, the DA's office said. While McCrary was dragging McKay under the car, Cunningham was running to try to catch up to the getaway car, the DA's office said, adding that a good Samaritan tried to stop Cunningham from getting back into the vehicle. Darnell is accused of shooting from the getaway car at the good Samaritan, the DA's office said, adding that McCrary is accused of slowing down to allow Cunningham to jump back into the getaway vehicle, after which McCrary drove away. The DA's office said Darnell and Cunningham also are eligible for the death penalty if they are convicted of the special circumstances murder charges. Darnell also has been charged with second-degree attempted robbery, attempted murder, and felony enhancements of personal use of a firearm and personal discharge of a firearm, the DA's office said, adding that Cunningham also has been charged with one felony count of attempted second-degree robbery.Like Blaze News? Amtrak trains keep breaking down, even after historic $66B taxpayer cash infusion. Where is the money being spent?

A new report from the Department of Transportation revealed that Amtrak, a federally chartered company, is still experiencing routine breakdowns and interruptions despite receiving tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer funds to continue operations, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported. The passenger rail company was created in 1971 and has never turned a profit. Instead, it has relied on taxpayer dollars to remain operational. The company loses roughly $1 billion per year. According to documents obtained by Open the Books, despite losing money, the company paid its 19,000 workers an average salary of $121,000 for fiscal year 2022.'Without significant taxpayer support, Amtrak could not operate.'The Biden administration has funneled billions of taxpayer dollars into the company, including announcing in November a $16.4 billion investment for rail system improvements for its Northeast Corridor. The funding will be used to rebuild tunnels and bridges as well as upgrade tracks, power systems, signals, and stations."If the Northeast Corridor shut down for a single day, it would cost the economy $100 million in lost productivity," the White House previously stated. The administration's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law earmarked $66 billion for rail improvements, which the administration boasted was the "largest investment" in Amtrak's history. As part of this investment, the Biden administration allocated $3.07 billion to the California High-Speed Rail Authority. The project has not made significant progress since it was approved in 2008.According to the White House, Biden envisions turning Amtrak into a "world-class passenger rail" experience. The investments aim to "ensure that train service is more convenient and climate-friendly than either driving or flying."Approximately 22.93 million traveled aboard Amtrak in fiscal year 2022, Statista reported. From January through December 2022, roughly 853 million passengers traveled with U.S. airlines. The DOT's latest report revealed that from 2021 through July 9, 2024, Amtrak experienced 333 incidents nationwide, slightly fewer than the 397 incidents that occurred during the Trump administration between 2016 and July 2020, the DCNF reported.Since Biden took office, there have been 66 derailments, 84 obstructions, 115 incidents involving trains crossing over roadways, five fires or "violent ruptures," and 54 events described as "other." A recent power outage from a malfunctioning circuit breaker interrupted service between New York and Boston last week. WCBS reported that the outage impacted all tracks between Penn Station in New York and Union Station in New Haven, Connecticut."Amtrak is communicating directly with customers impacted by these adjustments and offering options for rebooking their travel plans," the company stated. "Amtrak apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the disruption."Last month, Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner addressed the rail company's recent service interruptions, stating, "We understand the impact the recent events had on both Amtrak and NJ Transit customers and their families, and we share their frustration.""It's vital we work with NJ Transit to identify the root cause of these disruptions and return to on-time service and the quality experience customers expect," Gardner added. On Monday afternoon, an Amtrak train headed from Kansas City, Missouri, to Chicago, Illinois, derailed. According to the company, a tree on the tracks caused the incident. KCTV reported no injuries.Last year, House Republicans proposed legislation to cut Amtrak's funding. The Biden administration rejected the cuts, calling them "draconian."The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure argued, "Without significant taxpayer support, Amtrak could not operate."Neither Amtrak nor the DOT responded to a request for comment from the DCNF.Like Blaze News? Did the NFL RIG games for Taylor Swift ratings?

Former Super Bowl champion Derek Wolfe knows a thing or two about the NFL — and he’s fairly certain that there’s something seriously sketchy going on within the league. “My rookie year, which was 2012, we had Peyton Manning, we lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs,” Wolfe tells Alex Stein of “Prime Time with Alex Stein.” “The way they were able to kind of get the score tight again, was all these calls that the refs were making, these pass interference calls that can be called both ways at any time pretty much. There’s a penalty on every play. So, it all depends on when the ref wants to call it,” Wolfe explains. The NFL is a business at the end of the day, and Wolfe believes that part of their strategy is “who’s going to bring the most money” and “the story.” The story this year was a love story: Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. “The Chiefs weren’t that great of a team. They lost to the Broncos this year in a game, so they weren't at their best. They played really good football in the playoffs, but a lot of things were going their way,” Wolfe says. “The X factor there is the Swifties, and they’re bringing an entire new market into the NFL,” he continues. “People that would never watch football are now gonna watch football, and they’re getting the ratings because where the money comes from is the ratings.” While many people assume the NFL’s money comes from ticket sales, they couldn’t be more wrong. “What pays our salary is the TV deals,” Wolfe says. “Have you felt that there was a game particularly that you remember that was just totally robbed from you?” Stein asks, intrigued. “It’s that 2012 playoff game,” Wolfe answers, telling Stein that he believes the game was rigged in order for Ray Lewis “to go out as a champion.” “That’s a bold statement, Cotton,” Stein says in amazement, adding, “I love to hear it, because people think it’s real. But it’s sports entertainment.” Want more from Alex Stein? To enjoy more of Alex's culture jamming, comedic monologues, skits, and street segments, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.
