Ratings for the fourth Republican presidential debate held on Wednesday dropped to the lowest numbers so far this primary season with a 47% decrease in viewership from the previous debate.  With the party’s frontrunner‚ former President Donald Trump‚ skipping each of the GOP debates‚ viewership has consistently fallen since the first Republican faceoff held on August 23 on Fox News‚ which attracted 12.8 million viewers. The second debate‚ held a month later on Fox Business‚ drew 9.5 million viewers‚ and the third debate on NBC was watched by 7.5 million people. The downward trend continued Wednesday night as 4.1 million people tuned into the most recent Republican debate on NewsNation‚ Axios reported.  While the debate marked the lowest ratings for this Republican primary cycle‚ it set a record for NewsNation‚ an outlet that debuted in 2021. NewsNation attracted 1.6 million people to its coverage of the debate‚ the largest audience in the network’s young history‚ according to Nexstar Media Group‚ which owns NewsNation. Another 2.5 million people watched the debate on the CW’s simulcast‚ another subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group.  “NewsNation was incredibly honored to host last night’s debate‚ and we are very pleased that so many viewers tuned-in and watched‚” said Sean Compton‚ the president of Networks for Nexstar Media. “This debate represents a remarkable achievement for a cable news network that is just barely three years old. We’re very proud of the NewsNation team‚ the great job done by the moderators‚ and the overall production. In the end‚ the real winners last night were the nation’s voters.” The NewsNation debate featured a narrowing field of Republican candidates‚ with only four candidates qualifying for the stage. A teenage boy who identifies as transgender reportedly took first place this past weekend in the under-14 category at the 2023 Southern Region Oireachtas Irish dancing competition in Dallas‚ Texas‚ ultimately displacing a girl for a spot in the Irish Dancing World Championships. In the women’s 200 freestyle‚ Thomas‚ who previously competed on men’s teams‚ tied with Riley Gaines for fifth place. Thomas was given the only fifth place trophy for the photo-op after the event‚ while Gaines was told by the NCAA that her trophy would come in the mail. Gaines has since become an advocate for sports to be separate by sex‚ as they always have been. Testifying before Congress earlier this week‚ the former collegiate swimmer and other witnesses argued that refusing to separate sports by sex harms women and girls and cited studies showing the physical differences between males and females post-puberty‚ even after hormone treatments; argued that women and girls are losing out on scholarships and other opportunities; discussed the invasion of girls’ privacy in places like locker rooms; and noted female athletes who’ve been physically harmed by biologically male opponents. “Not only do women have to worry about losing out on opportunities and being exploited in locker rooms‚ allowing men into women’s sports also puts girls at greater risk of injury‚” Gaines told Congress. “In September of last year‚ North Carolina volleyball player Payton McNabb suffered serious injury after a trans-identified male player spiked a ball at her head‚ rendering her unconscious. Payton experienced extensive trauma to her head and neck and long-term concussion symptoms. When given the opportunity to say goodbye to a loved one before they pass away‚ I can only imagine how difficult it is to find the right words to day.
