Phoebe Waller-Bridge has officially taken on the role of director for the Lara Croft TV series, and Amazon has announced that the show has been greenlit — but fans are not happy. Waller-Bridge recently starred alongside Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," where she played a very feminist character who berated Ford at every turn. “So, is this Amazon iteration of Lara Croft going to be more of the same? Just an obnoxious girl boss who only exists to undercut her male colleagues and costars? We’ll see,” Lauren Chen says, calling her Indiana Jones film “a pretty spectacular failure.” Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider video games have also faced criticism from fans across the globe who believe that each time a new version of the game comes out, Croft gets less attractive. “To those of you who are Tomb Raider fans and are thinking, ‘You know what? Doesn’t matter, I’m just going to ignore the series and play the games because at least those will continue to be good.’ Well, I mean, I wouldn’t be so sure,” Chen says. “As people have pointed out, it seems like there is actually an effort being made to make Lara Croft uglier and uglier, because of course due to feminism, as women now we are supposed to be offended by attractive women for some reason.” Not only have video games across the board been catering more to woke ideology, but Croft especially has formerly represented the “pinnacle” of female attractiveness in video games. “As we saw with gamer gate and more recently the whole Sweet Baby Inc. debacle, the gaming industry is by no means safe from wokeness either,” Chen says. And it’s not just Croft’s attractiveness that’s been under attack but also her character. The game Tomb Raider: Shadows of Truth gained negative attention as creators claimed they were transitioning Croft from “a raider of tombs to a seeker of truth” in order to escape the game's “colonial past.” “I’m not even kidding, this is a real thing,” Chen says. A Massachusetts theater has apologized after fans complained online about an event with actor Richard Dreyfuss where he allegedly made several political and cultural statements that some audience members disagreed with.The event was called "An Evening with Richard Dreyfuss and Jaws Screening" and took place at the Cabot theater in Beverly, Massachusetts. The screening saw Dreyfuss talk about his book, past projects, and allegedly even the "Me Too" movement and transgenderism.Outlets like Deadline and the Hollywood Reporter cited a series of Facebook comments by alleged audience members, but no actual quotes from Dreyfuss at the event that could be considered "transphobic" or "sexist."What can be confirmed, however, is that Dreyfuss came on stage to a song by Taylor Swift, while sporting a cane and a dress. Two stagehands are seen in a video then ripping the dress off of the actor before he put on a blazer and sat down.'We have to make sure that your kids are not the last generation of Americans.'According to social media accounts, Dreyfuss spoke about Barbra Streisand (who produced his film "Nuts"), and while he called her a "genius," also noted that the reason the movie "sucked" was because women are "passive."Another alleged attendee said that the actor commented that people "shouldn't be listening to some 10-year-old who says they want to be a boy instead of a girl."His remarks were characterized as consistently and purposefully looking to push the envelope, but recollections of his comments do not come close to any form of bigotry, save for in the mind of progressive activists.Some remarks that were caught on video from the Q&A portion of the event came while Dreyfuss was promoting his 2022 book, "One Thought Scares Me." "Fifty years ago, without telling anybody, they took civics out of the curriculum at public schools in America. We have no knowledge of who the hell we are, and if we don't get it back soon, we're all gonna die," Dreyfuss said. "We have to make sure that your kids are not the last generation of Americans, and you know exactly what I'm talking about."The theater issued an apology following the event and said that it was aware of and shares "serious concerns.""The views expressed by Mr. Dreyfuss do not reflect the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold as an organization. We deeply regret the distress that this has caused to many of our patrons," the Cabot theater said."We regret that an event that was meant to be a conversation to celebrate an iconic movie instead became a platform for political views. We take full responsibility for the oversight in not anticipating the direction of the conversation and for the discomfort it caused to many patrons.""We are in active dialogue with our patrons about their experience and are committed to learning from this event how to better enact our mission of entertaining, educating, and inspiring our community," they concluded.Dreyfuss spoke to BlazeTV host Glenn Beck in early 2023 and made similar remarks about the importance of American history."There are people who now think that opposing views are un-American. They don't know that opposing views are entwined and threaded through the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and what we show to the world we believe in," he told Beck."I certainly think that when we allow our kids to tell us what is valuable and what is nurturing, we’re going to the wrong people."Dreyfuss reportedly screened "Jaws" at a different venue in New Hampshire as well. The New York Times kicked off a smear campaign earlier this month over a neighborly dispute and an American flag at Justice Samuel Alito's house. The attempted character assassination spawned several others, all ostensibly penned with the aim of undermining the credibility of the Supreme Court and shaming Alito into recusing himself from cases in which Democrats and their fellow leftists are politically and emotionally invested. Democratic lawmakers used the false flag reports to great effect, demanding that Alito not only step aside from cases related to former President Donald Trump and the Jan. 6 protests, but that he apologize for supposedly "disrespecting the American flag and sympathizing with right-wing violent insurrectionists." All their chest-beating, hyperbole, and unfounded allegations were for nought — just as their similar efforts were last year — for Justice Alito told Democratic Sens. Richard Durbin (Ill.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.) very politely in a Wednesday letter to pound sand. "A reasonable person who is not motivated by political or ideological considerations or a desire to affect the outcome of Supreme Court cases would conclude that this event does not meet the applicable standard for recusal," wrote Alito. Having previously referenced the disqualification provision in the court's code of conduct, the justice added, "I am therefore duty-bound to reject your recusal request." Rep. Jamie Raskin (R-Md.), certainly motivated by political considerations and keen to affect upcoming SCOTUS decisions, returned to the liberal newspaper where the latest smear campaign against Alito began, writing an Wednesday op-ed entitled, "How to Force Justices Alito and Thomas to Recuse Themselves in the Jan. 6 Cases." Raskin suggested that the Biden Department of Justice can lean on the high court to help Democrats get their way. After recycling the Times' insinuations and characterizing his and other partisans' demands as a "groundswell of appeals," Raskin wrote, "The U.S. Department of Justice — including the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, an appointed U.S. special counsel and the solicitor general, all of whom were involved in different ways in the criminal prosecutions underlying these cases and are opposing Mr. Trump's constitutional and statutory claims — can petition the other seven justices to require Justices Alito and Thomas to recuse themselves not as a matter of grace but as a matter of law." Raskin suggested that the Biden DOJ and Attorney General Merrick Garland can invoke the due process clause of the U.S. Constitution and the "federal statute mandating judicial disqualification for questionable impartiality, 28 U.S.C. Section 455," which requires possibly prejudiced judges to recuse themselves at the start of proceedings. According to Raskin, who was silent in April on the matter of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's partiality in the Idaho case related to gender, "When the arguments are properly before the court, Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, Ketanji Brown Jackson, Elena Kagan, Brett Kavanaugh and Sonia Sotomayor will have both a constitutional obligation and a statutory obligation to enforce recusal standards." The Democrat further insinuated that the concerns previously manufactured in the pages of the Times amounted to reasonable doubts about Alito's impartiality, which in lesser courts might ordinarily warrant recusal. He then wrapped up his op-ed by likening Supreme Court justices to umpires, noting that an umpire would not be "allowed to call balls and strikes in a World Series game after the umpire’s wife tried to get the official score of a prior game in the series overthrown and canceled out to benefit the losing team" — ostensibly another smear against at least one justice's wife.
