The Biden administration’s census projections for how many immigrants are living in the U.S. are already “obsolete” due to the massive influx of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border‚ a new report has found. The total immigrant population — both legal and illegal — currently sits at a record high of 51.4 million‚ or 15.5% of the population‚ as of February‚ according to the report from the Center for Immigration Studies‚ which analyzed the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. This is an increase of 6.4 million since President Biden took office‚ the report says. More than half of that increase is likely due to illegal immigration‚ although legal immigrants still make up about three-fourths of the total foreign-born population‚ the report notes. Back in November‚ the Census Bureau predicted that the foreign-born share of the population would not reach 15.5% until 2039. “The scale of immigration is so high that it appears to have made the Census Bureau population projections‚ published in November of last year‚ obsolete‚” the report says. Most of the increase is due to immigration from Latin America‚ which has jumped 4.2 million since Biden took office‚ according to the report. Immigration from the Indian subcontinent has also spiked 819‚000‚ and immigration from the Middle East is up 654‚000. About 172‚000 foreign-born people currently enter the country each month‚ about four times the monthly increase under the Trump administration. About 44% of adults who arrived in the last two years have no education beyond high school‚ up from 29% in 2018. Also‚ the number of immigrant workers is climbing‚ while the number of American-born workers is dropping. A total of 31 million immigrant workers‚ more than three million more than in February‚ 2020‚ now make up a record 19% of all workers. Since 1970‚ the foreign-born share of the population has tripled. It has risen 40% since just 2000. “The enormous scale of immigration over the past three years has implications for nearly every aspect of American society‚ including public coffers‚ the labor market‚ schools‚ hospitals‚ and the balance of political power‚ to say nothing of whether we can assimilate this many people‚” the report says. The crisis at the southern border has resulted in tens of thousands of migrants descending on major cities like New York City‚ Chicago‚ Denver‚ Philadelphia‚ and Los Angeles. New York City has seen more than 183‚000 migrants show up since the spring of 2022. Chicago has seen more than 37‚000 migrants. Both cities have spent tens of millions of dollars on food‚ shelter‚ and other migrant-related costs.

Harvard Law School is under fire for plans to host a movie screening of ‘How To Blow Up A Pipeline‚’ a film that the FBI says promotes eco-terrorism.  The film‚ directed by Harvard alumni Daniel Goldhaber‚ grows ideas from Andreas Malm’s book with the same name‚ and tells the story of a group of young people blowing up a pipeline as an activism tactic. The film’s website includes a “Take Action” page on its website with a map of U.S. oil and gas pipelines.  Harvard appears to going beyond simply screening the film. A website operated by Harvard Law School professor Jon Hanson‚ who is moderating a Q&;A with the film’s director during the event‚ encourages attendance of all students “interested in environmental activism.” His website‚ the Systemic Justice Project‚ describes the film’s plot as “the story of a group of activists who execute a daring plan to (you guessed it) blow up a pipeline.”  The FBI issued a terrorist alert due to fears that the movie would inspire eco-terrorism‚ Rolling Stone reported in April. In the suit‚ Hanson is accused of defending Hamas and calling Israeli Jews “‘colonizers’ who ‘blow up babies.’” Harvard University did not respond to a request for comment.  The American Gas Association‚ which represents more than 200 local energy companies that deliver natural gas to more than 74 million customers in the United States‚ said it has put in place to “monitor‚ prevent‚ and respond to potential threats.” “Advancing physical and cybersecurity is a major part of how we live up to this commitment‚” AGA Vice President of Security and Operations Kimberly Denbow told The Daily Wire. “Our natural gas utilities are interwoven into every aspect of modern life and maintaining access to reliable natural gas is critical. We take the responsibility of protecting the delivery of this vital resource seriously and have programs in place to monitor‚ prevent‚ and respond to potential threats.” This will be Harvard’s second official screening of the film since it was released. The university’s Department of Art‚ Film‚ and Visual Studies hosted a screening of the film in March 2023. 

The National Transportation Safety Board has released a timeline of events leading to the cargo ship DALI slamming into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on Tuesday. The NTSB gleaned the information from the DALI’s voyage data recorder (VDR)‚ which provides six hours of data between 12:00 a.m. EDT and 06:00 a.m. EDT on March 26. “The VDR data is comprised of audio from both the ship’s bridge as well as recordings of the ship’s VHF (very high frequency) radios‚” the NTSB noted. The VDR also recorded ship speed‚ engine RPM‚ rudder angle‚ ship heading‚ and some alarm information. The ship departed Seagirt Marine Terminal at approximately 12:39
 a.m. By 1:07 a.m.‚ it had entered the Fort McHenry Channel. By 1:24 a.m.‚ the ship was underway on a true heading of approximately 141 degrees in the Fort McHenry Channel at an indicated speed over ground of approximately 8 knots/9 miles per hour. Roughly one minute later “numerous aural alarms were recorded on the ship’s bridge audio‚” the NTSB reported‚ adding‚ “Around the same time‚ VDR ship system data ceased recording‚ however‚ the VDR audio continued to be recorded using the VDR’s redundant power source. Around 01:26:02‚ the VDR resumed recording ship system data. MDTA data from around this time indicated the pilot association dispatcher phoned the MDTA duty officer regarding the blackout. Around 1:27:04‚ the pilot commanded the DALI to drop the port anchor and issued additional steering commands‚” the NTSB continued. “Around 1:27:25‚ the pilot issued a radio call over the VHF radio and reported the DALI had lost all power approaching the Key Bridge‚” The NTSM stated‚ adding that at roughly 1:29 a.m. “the ship’s speed over ground was recorded as just under 7 knots/8 miles per hour. From this moment until approximately 1:29:33‚ VDR audio recorded sounds consistent with the collision with the Key bridge.”

The GOP-led House plans to send the impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the border crisis to the Senate next month. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and the impeachment managers sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Thursday saying they would present the articles on April 10. “We urge you to schedule a trial of the matter expeditiously‚” they wrote‚ adding later‚ “We call upon you to fulfill your constitutional obligation to hold this trial. The American people demand a secure border‚ an end to this crisis‚ and accountability for those responsible.” Roughly six weeks ago‚ in a second attempt‚ House lawmakers narrowly passed two articles of impeachment that accuse Mayorkas of “willfully and systemically” refusing to comply with federal immigration laws‚ and the other alleged he “breached the public trust” with false statements and obstructing lawful oversight of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Schumer’s office responded by saying that House impeachment managers “will present the articles of impeachment to the Senate following the state work period‚” suggesting that a trial could have started as early as late February. The office added that senators “will be sworn in as jurors in the trial the next day‚” and Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray (D-WA) will preside. In the intervening weeks‚ Congress scrambled to pass two waves of spending legislation to avert a government shutdown. House lawmakers also held a public hearing in the corruption-focused impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. In a new statement following the House letter‚ Schumer’s office reiterated‚ “As we have said previously‚ after the House impeachment managers present the articles of impeachment to the Senate‚ Senators will be sworn in as jurors in the trial the next day. Agreement to the motion is equivalent to defeating the question tabled.” Sen.
