The world is headed into Holy Week‚ the holiest of times for the worlds more than 2 billion Christians. Christians believe that Jesus of Nazareth entered Jerusalem as a king on Palm Sunday; was tortured‚ crucified‚ killed and buried on Friday; and rose again on Easter Sunday. It is one of the defining weeks in human history. As we head there‚ it is an appropriate time to pause the politics and dwell on this. The resurrection either happened or did not. There is ample circumstantial evidence. Christians believe “by faith‚” but their “hope‚” as referenced in the New Testament‚ is better phrased as their “profound certainty” in a resurrection backed by evidence. Many Christians in the United States are fretful of the nations current state. A growing number have fixed their eyes not on a cross or empty tomb but on a ballot box. They are convinced that if they give enough‚ cheer enough and vote enough‚ they can save their nation. What they forget is that this is not their home. In elevating politics above the gospel‚ they have harmed their witness. Going so far into the world of politics‚ they reflect the world to the world instead of reflecting Christ. God is sovereign. He needs no man to do. The Spirit does. The Spirit moves through men‚ and men might act. But many have decided there is no reason to wait on the Spirit‚ or they become deluded‚ thinking God told them to act in ways and with behaviors that do not reflect a love of their neighbor. The books of the Old Testament are filled with false prophets who claimed to speak for God but were only speaking for themselves‚ often out of a sense of nationalist fervor. In my 48 years‚ many of which were as a conservative activist convinced of my own righteousness and driven by a zeal more for a win in politics than for the gospel‚ I have learned a very simple lesson. Gods got this. There is nothing you or I can do to alter the end of the story. Gods got this. He is sovereign and on his throne. For reasons Christians cannot offer a full answer -- another proof of the authenticity of the faith‚ because cults have answers for everything and Christians do not -- before the world itself began‚ God set in motion events that would ultimately lead to His son coming into the world‚ dying a terrible death and conquering death that we might have an eternity with God after all things are made new. The worries and fears of the present age and what might come if we do not act will pass away. So‚ too‚ with the country. The country will continue for some time‚ but not for long with a group of Christians‚ to quote C.S. Lewis‚ “hag-ridden by the Future -- haunted by visions of an imminent heaven or hell upon earth -- ready to break (God)s commands in the present if by so doing (he) think(s) he can attain the one or avert the other -- dependent for his faith on the success or failure of schemes whose end he will not live to see.” Gods got this. There is no reason to ruin relationships over an election. There is no reason to break Gods commands in the present‚ including hating your neighbor‚ to save a temporary world. There is no reason to be so invested in politics that you alienate yourselves from others or fail to glorify God. Your vote for a lesser of two evils does not advance Gods Kingdom. God advances Gods Kingdom. As we head into the general election season‚ we pass through Palm Sunday‚ where crowds cheered the arrival of Jesus into Jerusalem. By Friday‚ many of the same people who had cheered Jesus were calling for His execution and the liberation of Barrabas‚ a political prisoner who‚ I kid you not‚ had participated in an insurrection. Pilate‚ who could not recognize the truth‚ let the murderous insurrectionist go and handed the innocent Christ over to be executed. But even this was all part of the plan. You do not have to cling to the world. You can cling to Christ.

An intellectually unsophisticated Jimmy Kimmel reacted to Alabama’s new anti-DEI bill during his Thursday monologue on ABC by claiming that those in favor of it do not like reading and are some sort of Confederate dead ender. Kimmel began by reporting‚ “In Alabama‚ they just passed a bill that will ban Diversity‚ Equity‚ and Inclusion programs at all public schools and universities and it also requires universities to get rid of gender-neutral bathrooms.”     For Kimmel‚ the idea that you would not teach children that they are responsible for the sins of the past or that meritocracy is racist or sexist is just a cover for not wanting children to read‚ “The sponsor of the bill is a Republican named Will Barfoot‚ who has been very anti-reading ever since he realized he had the word ‘Barf’ in his name.”  Kimmel wrapped up by invoking the not-so glorious aspects of Alabamian history‚ “The bill was signed into law yesterday by Governor Kay Ivey. She's terrific. Her motto is‚ ‘if at first you don’t secede try‚ try‚ again.’” By contrast‚ Jimmy Kimmel’s motto is “if you can’t win the argument on the merits‚ just project nasty motives onto Republicans.” At least that motto would be accurate. The American flying experience is shadowed not only by the threat of structural breakdown but also of social breakdown. Fortunately‚ there are remedies for both. In the case of a recent American Airlines flight set to take off from Tampa‚ Florida‚ for Philadelphia‚ the remedy apparently took the form of a hulking off-duty cop with an apparent zero-tolerance policy for nonsense. American Airlines flight 2506 was scheduled to depart Tampa International Airport Tuesday afternoon. However‚ a physical altercation broke out during boarding‚ resulting in a 30-minute delay‚ reported the Philadelphia Inquirer. The incident‚ which was captured on video‚ appears to have started when an individual in a blue-striped shirt was asked to disembark and refused to do so. A male flight attendant can be seen calmly asking the unruly passenger to comply. The passenger threatens the flight attendant‚ then returns to his seat. After suggesting that the flight attendants were ganging up on him‚ the unruly passenger twice hurls anti-Semitic remarks‚ calling the male attendant a "k**e" and "k**e human." This was Tuesday. He was never called as a witness but Cassidy Hutchinson was. As a key witness‚ Hutchinson testified differently the first two or three times before meeting with Cheney and firing her lawyers. She then hired lawyers suggested by Cheney and had a video taken of her and her testimony. She’s since been sued for libel by Tony Bobulinski. “It’s a complete setup folks. It’s so horrendous‚ and the media are in on it‚” Levin says. The Biden administration continues to announce additional rounds of federal student loan debt “forgiveness” despite the Supreme Court’s ruling last year.On Thursday‚ the White House issued a press release declaring another $6 billion in debt cancellations.“Today‚ my Administration is cancelling student loans for an additional 78‚000 public service workers — teachers‚ nurses‚ firefighters‚ and more — through Public Service Loan Forgiveness‚” Biden announced. “These public service workers have dedicated their careers to serving their communities‚ but because of past administrative failures‚ never got the relief they were entitled to under the law.”The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2007. Its goal was to encourage more Americans to seek employment in the public service sector.The White House’s press release noted that the Biden administration has wiped out federal student loan debt for 870‚000 public service workers. Previous administrations combined only provided relief to 7‚000 workers‚ according to the announcement.Biden touted that he has "canceled" debt for four million Americans since taking office. Last year‚ the administration attempted to unilaterally eliminate $10‚000 of federal student loan debt for individuals making less than $125‚000 annually and married couples making less than $250‚000 annually. In June‚ the Supreme Court blocked Biden’s plan‚ which would have canceled approximately $430 billion of debt for borrowers.Since the ruling‚ the administration has continued to pursue its goal of providing so-called debt forgiveness through smaller‚ similar programs that pass the burden to all American taxpayers. So far‚ Biden has zeroed out $143.6 billion in debt for student loan borrowers.“In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision on my Administration’s original student debt relief plan‚ we are continuing to pursue an alternative path to deliver student debt relief to as many borrowers as possible as quickly as possible‚” Biden said.The administration has made it clear that it aims to continue to offer student debt cancellations to as many borrowers as possible. Indiana Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz played evidence of male athletes injuring young girls in sports during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on barring transgender athletes from Olympic women's sports.Spartz was just one of several Republican House members who gave impassioned remarks surrounding protecting young women from males in their locker rooms and regarding scholarships‚ as well as in sports in general."I actually would like to play some video. ... I want to see what it really can cause‚ how much harm‚ and we can show examples to [how] much stronger guys playing the sports against biologically not-as-strong women‚" the Republican stated."Most of us as I said are not biologically as strong‚ and it is unfortunate the other side tries to really deter the conversation in a different direction and divert it. ... Let's talk about how we are going to protect our women and girls."Spartz then showed a compilation of three separate instances in which female high school athletes were injured by male athletes who were allowed to compete against them.The first example was from a Massachusetts high school‚ when a trans-identifying male student caused multiple injuries during a girls' basketball game. At halftime‚ the school's coach decided to forfeit the game after the remaining players expressed concerns about potentially becoming injured and missing the upcoming playoffs.Shockingly‚ the school later defended the right of the male student compete against girls.The next example came from a North Carolina high school volleyball game‚ in which a male player spiked a ball into a female player's face. The girl reportedly suffered severe injuries to her head and neck and was seen lying on the floor for some time before recovering enough to walk off the court under her own power.A third example was shown from a Massachusetts high school girls' lacrosse game. A male player took a shot that hit a girl in the face and reportedly knocked out several of her teeth.After the compilation video played‚ Spartz stated that she wanted to focus on preventing injuries‚ not enforcing rules after the fact."Girls actually get hurt by males biological playing sports. I mean‚ it is really unbelievable for me that this is an issue that we cannot stand with women and girls on‚" she continued."Let's just be honest‚ boys‚ you know‚ natural biological boys‚ have a different advantage against women playing sports. Hundreds of migrants stormed National Guard soldiers and breached razor wire near El Paso on Thursday — and the shocking moment was caught on video.On Thursday morning‚ hundreds of migrants breached a razor-wire barrier and overwhelmed a small group of National Guard soldiers‚ video shows.
