“Unauthorized Drone Activity” Over The White House Forces Plane To Divert, Congresswoman Says

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said her flight into Washington D.C. was diverted due to “unauthorized drone activity” over the White House. “I just flew into DCA. Before landing, our pilot announced he had to fly in from another direction due to ‘unauthorized drone activity’ over the White House,” Greene said. I just flew into DCA.Before landing, our pilot announced he had to fly in from another direction due to “unauthorized drone activity” over the White House. — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (@RepMTG) January 13, 2025 “No official word yet on what exactly happened or who was behind it, but airspace near the White House is highly restricted. This raises major questions: Who’s flying unauthorized drones in the most secure zone in America—and why?” Mario Nawfal noted. DRONES OVER THE WHITE HOUSE?! Rep. The timing is particularly significant as federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, have been investigating these widespread sightings, which have sparked national security concerns and public anxiety. This possible White House incident is especially concerning given that Washington, D.C.’s airspace is the most restricted in the country, with drone operations strictly prohibited within the Flight Restricted Zone. While previous drone sightings in other states have been attributed to commercial, hobbyist and law enforcement operations, any unauthorized aerial activity near the White House represents a more serious security threat. The Washington, D.C., area is governed by a Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) within a 30-mile radius of Reagan National Airport. Flying unmanned aircraft within the 15-mile inner ring is prohibited without specific FAA authorization, requiring Transportation Security Administration and FAA waivers and special clearance. Unlike other regions where some drone activity is permitted, the airspace around the White House has zero tolerance for unauthorized drones, making this incident particularly noteworthy for security officials. X users noted the “unauthorized drone activity” over the White House is taking place one week before President Trump’s inauguration. Who's with me on this?https://t.co/4q4uYfHDq1 — Bob #45 (@BobFighter_45) January 13, 2025 President Trump said he would immediately get to the bottom of the drones, calling it “ridiculous” that Americans don’t know what’s going on. WATCH: BREAKING: President Trump promises to give a full declass on the Drones on January 21st. He clearly knows what they are, but he isn't authorized to disclose until after he is sworn in. Buckle up folks, things are going to move EXTREMELY FAST starting at noon on Jan. 20. pic.twitter.com/B9voPwbZLI — Noah Christopher (@DailyNoahNews) January 10, 2025 WTOP reports: Reports of drones in the D.C. metro area spiked in mid-November and continued through the beginning of January. Youngkin said these sightings were especially concerning in his state, which is home to the largest naval base in the world — Marine Corps Base Quantico — and the state’s national security infrastructure. “And now for two years running we’ve had drone incursion over secure airspace,” Youngkin said, “and we still don’t know why. And I think that’s absolutely unacceptable.” Youngkin signaled faith in the incoming administration’s response to these aerial phenomena. “I think President Trump and the new leadership coming in — I think will work diligently to understand who’s behind this and what we do in order to stop the digital surveillance of all our secure infrastructure,” Youngkin said.

GOP Governor Calls For Special Session To “Actively Facilitate” Trump Administration’s Immigration Policies

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called for a special session of the Florida Legislature to ensure the state enforces President Trump’s immigration policies. “President-elect Trump was elected with a mandate to stop illegal immigration and deport illegal aliens already in our country. State and local officials in Florida will actively facilitate the Trump Administration’s policies against illegal immigration, and to do that we need to immediately set aside and approve the necessary funding and resources now,” DeSantis said. “As part of the special session I called for January 27, the week after President Trump is sworn in, I am calling on the legislature to appropriate funding for detention, relocation, transportation infrastructure, local law enforcement support, and everything else needed for Florida to carry out this mission,” he added. DeSantis warned that he would move to suspend officials from office if they were found to be “neglecting their duties.” The governor indicated that he expects the Legislature to allocate tens of millions of dollars in new spending to expand state immigration enforcement and detention efforts. He also said he would consider activating the Florida National Guard and the Florida State Guard to assist Trump enforce federal immigration laws. Gavin Newsom and Democratic state lawmakers, who reportedly agreed to utilize $50 million to combat the Trump administration. Ron DeSantis’s (R) call for a special session to implement President-elect Trump’s immigration agenda, calling the move “premature.” In a letter addressed to their fellow legislators, state Senate President Ben Albritton (R) and state House Speaker Daniel Perez (R) said they were not aware of any specific guidance to the states about any action state legislatures can take to support the federal agenda. “Florida’s constitution compels our attendance at a special session unilaterally called by the Governor,” the leaders wrote. “However, the power to convene a special session also resides with the presiding officers. As the people’s elected representatives, the Legislature, not the Governor, will decide when and what legislation we consider.” Albritton and Perez said they supported Trump’s agenda, adding that it would be “irresponsible” to get out ahead of any announcements Trump could make. “When we receive specific guidance that may necessitate our state’s legislative action to complement President Trump’s efforts, we stand ready to act at the appropriate time,” the two wrote. The letter comes hours after DeSantis called for a special session to implement Trump’s immigration agenda during a press conference on Monday.
