World leaders have released statements and even talked personally to former President Donald Trump after the attempt on his life on Saturday. U.S. opponents have been quick to express their thoughts on the event and use the assassination attempt to enhance their own political messages. Russia According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not called and does not have plans to call Trump. Russia has placed the blame on Democrats and their rhetoric for the violence. Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for Russia’s foreign ministry, claimed that the “dissolution of the United States does not look like such an impossible prophecy any longer” and that American democracy has been brought to a “suicidal state.” She also suggested that the U.S. reallocate funds sent to Ukraine to “ensure law and order in the United States.” China Chinese President Xi Jinping extended his sympathies to Trump after the assassination attempt. According to a foreign ministry spokesperson, China is closely following the assassination attempt on Trump. The Global Times, a newspaper run by the country’s ruling Communist Party, published several articles stating the U.S. is at risk of a civil war. Xi and Putin have been working to increase their country’s strategic relations. In May, the two leaders met in Beijing, committed themselves to a “new era” of partnership, and condemned the U.S. Iran Today, the Iranian foreign ministry stated that Iran “strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack against Trump.” The statement comes after the revelation that U.S. intelligence discovered assassination threats from Iran against Trump just prior to the assassination attempt. The Iranian mission to the UN denied the allegations and called them “malicious.” Iranian threats against Trump have been tracked for years, especially after he directed an airstrike in 2020 that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani. As of this writing, there doesn’t appear to be any ties between Iran’s alleged threats and the recent attempt on Trump’s life. They consider the election to be an “American internal issue” because “Israel is part of American strategic interests, independent of parties.” Now, more than ever, the United States is in need of unity. Foreign adversaries have been quick to exploit the division plaguing the U.S. The presidential election in November will be crucial to how the world perceives the United States.
