Award-winning journalist Catherine Herridge is reportedly one of a number of senior reporters at CBS News caught up in a round of layoffs reportedly rocking Paramount Global. The cuts‚ reportedly impacting about 800 jobs‚ constitute about 3% of Paramount’s total workforce. Paramount CEO Bob Bakish told employees in an internal memo that the drastic cuts are necessary for the financial health of the company. “These adjustments will help enable us to build on our momentum and execute our strategic vision for the year ahead — and I firmly believe we have much to be excited about‚” Bakish wrote‚ according to Yahoo Finance. The downsizing has turned some employees against Bakish after he was paid $32 million last year despite the company’s struggles. “Everybody in the newsroom is pissed that Bob Bakish is making over $30 million and he’s making these cuts‚” one insider told the New York Post. The cuts bled into CBS News‚ which employs about 2‚000 people. Roughly 20 people received notice that they were being let go‚ including some of the news outlet’s top talent such as Herridge. Herridge‚ formerly a reporter for Fox News‚ is under pressure from U.S. District Court Judge Christopher Cooper to divulge her sources in a series of stories she wrote for Fox involving a federal investigation of a Chinese American scientist. Herridge has so far refused to give up her sources and faces the possibility of being held in contempt of court. She could also be fined as much as $5‚000-a-day. Herridge’s case has been closely watched by news organizations and First Amendment advocates over its implications for the future of anonymous reporting of sensitive stories. In a fascinating and trenchant dialogue‚ British author Douglas Murray interviewed the son of a Hamas co-founder. Mosab Hassan Yousef‚ who worked with Israeli intelligence to foil numerous suicide bombing attacks against Israel. When Murray asked what Youisef was taught growing up‚ he replied‚ “Jewish hatred‚ this is not a secret thing. Hatred toward the Jewish people‚ toward the infidels‚ towards the Christians; it’s part of the Islamic common teaching. … It’s in the air; it’s in the book (Koran)‚ it’s in the mosque; it’s in the school‚ and people think it is normal just to preach hatred towards other people because they are different or because they don’t agree with Islamic principles.” Speaking of the atmosphere in which he grew up and how it focused on the eradication of Israel‚ he said‚ “It’s not only in Hamas charters‚ it’s in fact‚ a desire not only for Palestinian-Islamic movements like Hamas‚ Muslim Brotherhood‚ Islamic Jihad … but it’s also the non-Islamist movements that praise Jewish slaughter. And this was the biggest problem that I had in the 90s during the suicide attacks before and after the Second Intifada. People used to celebrate.” He noted that when a suicide bomber had been successful in massacring Jews‚ “A majority of the Palestinian population celebrated‚ praised suicide bombing attacks even though it targeted civilians. … In fact‚ people would celebrate more when the death toll would be greater‚ even though we had Arabs‚ foreigners‚ who died in those attacks‚ children‚ women‚ elders‚ all types of people‚ and this is where from the early beginning I had this moral conflict. How can you celebrate and enjoy the suffering of people like this?” “At the beginning you think that the Israelis deserve that; ‘They took our land. They killed our people. They are against our God; they want to destroy us.’ You get to a point where you see your enemy down you celebrate that. But then — for how long you can lie to somebody before they start questioning the truth and the reality?” he noted. He said of his childhood‚ “From a very early age I had my problem with the culture. I did not like the abuse; I did not appreciate the beating. I did not appreciate the rigid‚ rough discipline. Don’t expect to beat up a child because they did not follow the religious protocol and this child is not going to question what that was for? … I survived it; many people get broken in the beginning.” He remembered being in prison in 1996 at the age of 18 because he had purchased guns for the purpose of shooting Israelis. “Thankfully I got arrested before I carried out a terrorist attack‚ I was not that far. … We had guns and we were looking for targets. … Hamas in prison proved to be barbaric; they killed so many people; they tortured so many people‚ our own people‚ for suspicion of collaborating with Israel with no evidence. Hamas did not have evidence. … Dozens were killed in a short period of time. Hundreds were tortured in the worst possible way. This was the time when I started asking the question: What if Hamas succeeds in establishing a Palestinian state? Are they going to do this to our people?” “One of the things in the Koran‚ that Allah hates the Jewish people for being disobedient‚” he stated. “Hence many of those jihadists think that they are the sword of God on Earth‚ that they are actually manifesting the punishment against the Jewish people for being disobedient. And this is why I personally question the belief system itself. I thought it was not enough to work in counterterrorism shooting down terrorists or trying to stop a suicide bomber before they reach their target; after 10 years of this operation I came to realize we were fighting a ghost because we did not deal with the belief system.” Speaking of the October 7 massacre of Israelis by Hamas and how it differed from all the previous terrorist attacks on Israelis‚ he said‚ “This one‚ you see them moving‚ you see them speaking; you seem them enjoying it. They rejoice in the death of so many innocent‚ defenseless people. In people’s living rooms‚ enjoying beverages from their kitchen while the children are mourning the death of their parents next door. There is no human language that can describe the evil that took place on October 7. That’s not just a war crime; it’s not just killing; it’s a genocide by all standards. And to see such a genocide but nobody’s talking about it. … This is not just a terrorist attack.” He spoke of the West’s refusal to see the Islamist threat: One of the biggest contributors to terrorism and violence is hypocrites. Because when we are hypocrites we are not calling things for what they are. We see the Islamists’ threat; we see what they are capable of doing‚ FBI‚ Homeland Security‚ other intelligence agencies in the West‚ most democracies in the West‚ they know the ideological dimension that motivates  terrorists and terrorist attacks. But we prefer not to talk about it because it’s “Islamophobic” or because it’s controversial or we may offend the Muslims. So now we are submitting to intimidation when we don’t talk about it‚ when we don’t challenge it‚ that this is not acceptable; it’s not acceptable.  He concluded: This hatred against the Jews that is attracting many Westerners who might have something in common: that they are all anti-Semites. And this is what’s bringing the Islamists and the Communists and could be the socialists‚ even‚ to work together; they have something in common and that is their hatred toward Israel. But what many Westerners are not understanding is that this is not only anti-Israel; it‘s anti-success and it’s anti-civilization. It‘s pro-chaos.

Denver is considering allowing non-citizens to become police officers and firefighters‚ a move that would allow migrants with work authorization to work those public safety jobs. On Monday‚ City Council President Jamie Torres and Councilmember Amanda Sandoval proposed getting rid of language in the city charter that bars the city from hiring non-citizens as police and firefighters. The proposal could be formally introduced in a bill as soon as April‚ but changing the city’s charter would also require a ballot initiative in November. Both the fire chief and police chief have submitted letters in favor of the idea. The Denver Sheriff’s Department is already able to hire non-citizens thanks to a 2016 federal settlement that found the department discriminated against migrants who had work authorizations. Like several other major U.S. cities‚ Denver has received an influx of illegal migrants recently. Colorado’s capital is struggling to metabolize the more than 40‚000 illegal migrants who have arrived in recent months. The city is in the process of evicting about 800 migrant families from overcrowded shelters. “We have filled every single hotel room that we have available in the city and county of Denver‚” Mayor Mike Johnston‚ a Democrat‚ said earlier this month‚ adding that the city is “very close” to a breaking point. To pay for the migrant crisis‚ the city is slashing funding from every part of the budget‚ from the police to the health department to the animal shelter. The mayor has asked to cut nearly $1 million from the elections department in an election year. Johnston said the city would likely need $100 million over the course of this year to pay for migrant costs such as housing‚ school‚ and health care. The outlet noted that the indie comedy cost less than $10 million to make. “My Dead Friend Zoe” follows a female Afghanistan veteran who confronts her grandfather‚ a Vietnam veteran‚ at the family lake house. The movie premieres March 9 at SXSW. It stars Sonequa Martin-Green‚ Natalie Morales‚ Ed Harris‚ and Morgan Freeman. Explicit sexual content on television shows is so common it’s not even shocking anymore. Instead‚ the more surprising move is to make a popular series with attractive young actors and then choose not to show them all hooking up with each other. This isn’t necessarily what the creator of the Emmy-winning series “The Bear” set out to do. But in crafting a narrative that’s free from blatant sexual promiscuity‚ the showrunner proved that even if sex sells‚ a series doesn’t need sex to sell. It just needs to tell a good story. “The Bear” is a comedy-drama television series created by Christopher Storer. The Hulu series debuted on June 23‚ 2022‚ with actor Jeremy Allen White starring as an award-winning chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage his family restaurant after his older brother committed suicide. A lot of drama went down in two seasons‚ but except for a very brief‚ extremely tame (comparatively speaking) moment in the second season‚ “The Bear” has no sexual content whatsoever. Every episode is rated TV-MA for explicit language‚ of which there is plenty. This fits in well with the storyline‚ though‚ as it accurately represents what goes on in real restaurant kitchens across the nation. Many members of the restaurant industry complained that the show is so true to life that it’s impossible to watch. But there’s no sex. That absence was enough to make mainstream media writers notice‚ with many outlets noting of the first season that “The Bear” was even sexier because it didn’t have any sex in it. “The Hottest Show of the Summer Has No Sex‚” one headline from 2022 declared. “‘The Bear’ is largely devoid of romance in any sense of the word‚ and the only moments of real pleasure come from food: making it‚ eating it‚ selling it‚ having enough money to make more of it‚” the writer from The Cut” explains. “The show’s most poignant and vulnerable scenes happen between family or friends‚ not romantic partners.” The article goes on to mention how there’s obvious sexual tension between the show’s two main characters‚ Carmy (White) and Syd (Ayo Edebiri)‚ but the two chefs never act on it or even seem to acknowledge it. The writer observes how this complete lack of follow-through is precisely what makes the show alluring. Though no mainstream writer would admit it‚ what they’ve stumbled upon is the idea that subtlety is more attractive than explicit sexual imagery. A woman wearing a turtleneck sweater can – and does – look sexier than that same woman in a skimpy bikini top. This isn’t to say that the restaurant employees aren’t having sex on the show. Maybe they are doing it‚ somewhere off-camera. But the point of “The Bear” is to tell the story of a close-knit group of friends and family who‚ despite their dysfunction‚ are coming together to build something exceptional. This storyline doesn’t need nudity and gratuitous sex to be told well. And because it doesn’t have those things‚ “The Bear” stands out from other shows in the same sphere. Because it is 2024‚ there is one single intimate scene in the show’s second season. But once again‚ considering the show is rated TV-MA‚ the brief interlude is incredibly tame when compared to so many others. One reviewer called the absence of pornographic content “ingenious.” The Mamamia writer compared “The Bear” to HBO’s drama series “The Idol” starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp‚ the latter of which made headlines for having such graphic sex scenes. “In an age where watching sex — or rather‚ porn — is available at the tap of a finger‚ it almost feels like a daring choice to exclude intimacy scenes from ‘The Bear‚’” Shannen Findlay wrote. “‘The Idol’ was intent on telling us something through lewd and violent intimacy. Unlike ‘The Bear‚’ it uses raunchy‚ debaucherous sex instead of a good plot to tell the story‚” she added. “But in a world where sex is so visible and easy to access‚ why do we have to keep enduring simulated intercourse between actors? Why is the inclusion of sex beginning to feel like a drawback when choosing or watching a show?” It’s worth mentioning that “The Bear” was renewed for a third season after receiving widespread critical acclaim for its writing‚ directing‚ acting‚ and production values. The first season received ten Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series and individual wins for White‚ Edebiri‚ and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. It also won four Golden Globe Awards including the top prize for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2024. It’s because “The Bear” is telling a more vital story than one about empty sex. Season 2 episodes “Fishes” and “Forks” were two of the most moving‚ emotionally fraught episodes of television to come out in recent years. Neither one contains sex. But both have incredible depth. There’s a very good chance that Hollywood show creators will learn nothing from this phenomenon. Despite “The Bear” proving definitively that entertainment doesn’t need sex‚ nudity‚ promiscuity‚ and other sexual content to win awards and attract fans‚ there’s a good chance that showrunners will continue jamming sex scenes into content even when it’s not needed. There’s also a chance that “The Bear” will add more sex into their third season‚ following the trend of so many shows that came before. Hopefully this refreshingly different drama series will hold out and continue being the sexiest sex-free show on television.

“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston revealed how a cross-country motorcycle trip with his brother in the mid-1970s led to the pair becoming suspects in a very real murder case. Cranston spilled the details during a recent appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s “Dinner’s On Me” podcast‚ saying that it had all started when they ran out of money somewhere in Florida and needed to make some extra cash. Cranston explained that they had found work at a restaurant called The Hawaiian Inn‚ but had found themselves working for a cook that no one liked — a man named Peter Wong. “There was just no way on earth you were ever going to get on his good side. But he liked the ladies. And so‚ all the men knew‚ oh‚ if we had any problem in the kitchen‚ we had to send them in‚” Cranston said‚ adding that staffers would on occasion fantasize about how they might rid themselves of the “awful” Wong. “We’d all discuss how rotten and mean Peter Wong is‚ and we’d all discuss‚ if one were to do away with Peter Wong … how would one do it?” Cranston recalled. Among the suggestions he remembered were something involving the meat-grinder and a plot to crack him over the head with one of his own pans. But the Cranstons had never planned to stay long‚ and eventually took off on their motorcycles — generally headed toward Maine. And as luck would have it‚ that was about the same time that Wong mysteriously disappeared. “Little did we know that right at the time we said goodbye and left the job‚ Peter Wong went missing‚” Cranston said. “He was not found for a week‚ week and a half‚ two weeks.” Wong was found dead‚ stuffed in the trunk of a car after being robbed‚ investigators eventually determined — but before they figured things out‚ Cranston and his brother topped their suspect list. “My friends were saying‚ ‘Homicide‚ what’s going on?’ They’re saying‚ uh‚ ‘Peter Wong was found murdered.’ And everything just drops because this is serious stuff‚” Cranston recalled. “And then they said‚ ‘Is there anyone ever that you can remember talking about hurting or maiming or doing any harm to Peter Wong?’ And everyone’s like‚ ‘Um‚ yes.'” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “‘Well‚ this is not a joke This really happened and the man’s dead. The California condor is a majestic bird‚ although some may consider it ugly. The scientific name is Gymnogyps californianus. They are the largest North American land bird. An adult bird weighs around 25 pounds‚ and they have a wingspan measuring 9 to 10 feet. They are in the vulture family (OK‚ yeah‚ they’re not the prettiest birds). There were no remaining live birds in the wild. Since then‚ the species has been raised in captivity and reintroduced to the wild beginning in 1992. The Beginning Of A Love Story All California condors have identification tags and are in a monitoring program. The Peregrine Fund is one of the agencies monitoring and tracking the birds near the Navaho Bridge. A love story‚ shared by KÃœHL and The Peregrine Fund‚ began in February 2022 when two California condors were spotted over the Grand Canyon. A male (#619) and female (#775) engaged in flights together and‚ ultimately‚ the mating act. An egg was spotted in their cave on March 9. From that egg hatched a baby condor (#1150). Baby condors grow from hatchling to fledging in six months. Both parents take an active role in feeding and training the young bird. On November 12‚ 2022‚ watchers saw #1150 take its first flight. Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) claimed the lives of 21 members of the flock‚ including the mother‚ #775. Single father #619 continued raising his young charge. The young bird learned well‚ and #1150 is now independent‚ seeking food and enjoying the skies. The youngster will begin searching for a mate when they are nearly six. What The Future Holds For The California Condor California condors mate for life. Although our widower remained single to finish raising his offspring‚ he is now seeking a new life partner. Enter female #741. The two seem well-suited to one another‚ but the pair faces additional challenges. Each of the birds in the monitoring program receives periodic health checks. During one check‚ lead poisoning was evident in #619. A short time later‚ #741 was also diagnosed with lead poisoning. Monitoring agencies hope that the courtship will resume and provide an egg‚ but another concern is looming in the background. A second male suitor has entered the picture (#354) and is vying for the attention of #741. The new male is an established breeder. While #619 struggles to return to a mating relationship‚ #354 may disrupt his chances with #741. Monitors will continue watching to see how this plays out as the egg-laying season approaches.
