Families Of Gabby Petito‚ Brian Laundrie Settle Civil Lawsuit

Families Of Gabby Petito‚ Brian Laundrie Settle Civil Lawsuit

The family of Gabby Petito has settled their civil lawsuit against the parents of Brian Laundrie and their former attorney out of court‚ the details of which have not been made public. The settlement allows the families to avoid a civil trial‚ which could have publicly revealed information not previously known about the death of Petito at the hands of Laundrie. Laundrie admitted to killing his fiancée in a case that gained national attention. Laundrie’s parents released a statement through their former attorney‚ Steven Bertolino‚ regarding the settlement. “Christopher and Roberta Laundrie and I participated in mediation with the Petito family and the civil lawsuit has now been resolved‚” the statement said‚ according to WWSB. “The terms of the resolution are confidential‚ and we look forward to putting this matter behind us.” Petito’s family filed the lawsuit against the Laundries and Bertolino last year‚ alleging the Laundries helped their son escape law enforcement. A civil trial for the lawsuit was scheduled to begin in May but will no longer take place. Petito’s parents were seeking $100‚000 for pain and suffering due to the alleged actions of the Laundries. It is unclear how much‚ if any‚ money they will receive in the settlement. Laundrie is believed to have committed suicide after he went missing following the murder of his fiancée‚ whom Laundrie admitted to killing‚ according to the FBI. His remains were found in Florida’s Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 2021‚ and his family’s attorney released the notebook found with his body in June 2022. “I ended her life‚” Laundrie wrote‚ according to a copy of the notebook exclusively provided to Fox News. “I thought it was merciful‚ that it is what she wanted‚ but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock.” Laundrie went on to claim that Petito‚ who was 22 when Laundrie strangled her to death‚ had injured herself in a fall while they were visiting Wyoming and that he killed her to take “away her pain.” “Rushing back to our car trying to cross the streams of spread creek before it got too dark to see‚ to [sic] cold. I hear a splash and a scream‚” Laundrie wrote‚ adding that he carried her as far as he could but had to stop to make a fire to keep them warm when he couldn’t make it back to the couple’s van. He claimed Petito “had a small bump on her forehead that eventually got larger” and that she “continually made sounds of pain‚ laying next to her she said little lapsing between violent shakes‚ gasping in pain‚ begging for an end to her pain.” Laundrie also referred to Petito’s death as his “mistake” and insisted that he was not ending his life “because of a fear of punishment but rather because I cant [sic] stand to live another day without her.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Petito and Laundrie were driving across the country visiting national parks when Petito went missing. She was last seen alive in late August before her family reported her missing in early September after Laundrie returned to his parents’ home in Florida without her. Laundrie’s family then reported him missing on September 17. Petito’s body was found in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on September 19‚ 2021. Laundrie’s remains were found on October 20.

House Republican Unveils Plan To Force Consideration Of Bill Linking Border Security To Foreign Aid

House Republican Unveils Plan To Force Consideration Of Bill Linking Border Security To Foreign Aid

A Republican congressman said on Sunday he found a way to force a package linking foreign aid with some border security reforms to the House floor for consideration. The legislation‚ introduced by a bipartisan group of lawmakers‚ is separate from the $95 billion foreign aid bill passed by the Democrat-led Senate that the GOP-led House has so far refused to take up. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA)‚ who said he just returned from Ukraine‚ told “Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan on CBS that‚ as of Friday‚ the group filed with the House clerk for “expedited consideration.” .@RepBrianFitz says he and @RepGolden have filed to expedite their new House bipartisan border security and foreign aid deal to the House floor because "it's time sensitive" and "existential." "We are forcing this bill to the floor to make sure that everybody acts." pic.twitter.com/qAwJneubbW — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) February 25‚ 2024 “Normally any kind of discharge like that would take 30 days to even be considered ripe. But we figured out a way with the parliamentarian to expedite that to a seven-day period‚” he said. Fitzpatrick added‚ “What our bill does is it combines border security with this foreign aid‚ both existential‚ and we are forcing this bill to the floor to make sure that everybody acts.” The legislation backed by Fitzpatrick would last for a year and comes with a price tag of $66.32 billion‚ including “defense-only” funds to support Ukraine‚ Israel‚ and Taiwan‚ according to a press release. It also would block the entry of “inadmissible” migrants “to achieve operational control over U.S. borders” and require that immigration officers “detain and immediately expel” them. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has criticized the Senate bill for lacking border security policy changes after an immigration deal was dropped from the legislation when it failed to advance this month and said the House would “continue to work its own will” in the absence of reforms. The White House released a schedule for this week showing that Johnson and other leaders plan to meet with President Joe Biden on Tuesday to discuss national security legislation as well as keeping the government open. Fitzpatrick dismissed the notion that the alternative bill he backs would be “short-circuiting anything” and insisted his bipartisan coalition is “adding a pressure point to make sure this gets done because we cannot afford to wait here.” One component in the Senate foreign aid package that the House bill lacks is humanitarian aid‚ which Brennan noted could be a “non-starter” for many Democrats. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME)‚ who appeared on the program with Fitzpatrick‚ said amendments could “potentially” add humanitarian support to the measure. “Although I think that we also have to set priorities‚” he added. “And so‚ at the end of the day‚ what are the most important crises that we have to deal with in the here and now in the very short term? And I would say that that would be securing our border and also helping avoid battlefield catastrophes in Ukraine.”
