The Biden campaign is attempting to tie former President Donald Trump to state abortion bans in a new ad as a part of a broader campaign strategy to hammer the abortion issue as the 2024 race heats up. On Sunday‚ the Biden campaign debuted a new spot titled “Forced‚” which features Dr. Austin Dennard‚ a Dallas OBGYN and mother of three‚ who obtained an abortion out of state for an unborn child she says had a fetal condition with “absolutely no chance of survival.” “In Texas‚ you are forced to carry that pregnancy‚ and that is because of Donald Trump overturning Roe v. Wade‚” Dennard says in the 60-second video. “I was to continue my pregnancy‚ putting my life at risk‚” she adds. “We need leaders who will protect our rights and not take them away‚ and that’s Joe Biden and Kamala Harris‚” Dennard says. Dennard’s baby was reportedly diagnosed at 11 weeks with anencephaly‚ a condition where a baby is born without parts of the brain and skull. Dennard is one of several women suing Texas to clarify the “medical emergency” exception to the state’s abortion ban. She testified in July that her pregnancy would have put her at “significant risk‚” but that she did not think she would be granted an abortion under the exception because she was not “critically ill.” “I was not hemorrhaging‚ I was not septic. I was pregnant with a lethal anomaly‚ and I did not believe that I would be able to receive an abortion in my state at that time for the sole purpose of my lethal anomaly‚” she said at the time. It is not clear what specific health risks the pregnancy posed to Dennard. Texas had a six-week abortion ban that was triggered into effect when the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade in 2022. The law bans all abortions after six weeks‚ except those performed to protect the life of the mother. The new Biden ad will run for a week in seven battleground states — Arizona‚ Georgia‚ Michigan‚ Nevada‚ North Carolina‚ Pennsylvania‚ and Wisconsin. The campaign hopes to target suburban women and young voters‚ so the ad will run on programs and channels known to attract women‚ including the season premiere of “The Bachelor” and HGTV‚ TLC‚ Bravo‚ Hallmark‚ and the Food Network. “50 Shades of Grey” actor Jamie Dornan was hospitalized last year after coming in contact with a toxic caterpillar‚ according to his friend. Gordon Smart appeared on the BBC podcast “The Good‚ the Bad and the Unexpected” and recalled the incident‚ which he said occurred after visiting a golf course in Portugal. Smart said he and Dornan thought they were just experiencing hangover symptoms after spending the previous night consuming alcohol‚ but later discovered it was something more serious. Smart said he began feeling a “tingling in his left hand and tickling in his left arm” which he feared at first could be the sign of an impending heart attack. “Now‚ I’m a fairly healthy guy but once you start thinking you’re having a heart attack‚ you’re pretty sure that you’re convincing yourself that you are having one‚” Smart said. The Scottish journalist explained how he went to the hospital before Dornan did‚ but when he returned the actor was experiencing the same symptoms and was then taken to the hospital as well‚ per Entertainment Tonight. “Jamie said‚ ‘Dear me. Gordon‚ about 20 minutes after you left‚ my left arm went numb‚ my left leg went numb‚ my right leg went numb‚ and I found myself in the back of an ambulance‚'” Smart told the podcast hosts. “Anyway‚ as he left the hospital‚ the paramedics asked them for a selfie‚ which is really what you want when you’re being wheeled out of a hospital room.” Smart said the doctor told him the next week that his and Dornan’s symptoms could be the result of coming in contact with the Pine processionary caterpillar (Thaumetopoea pityocampa)‚ which has toxic proteins and‚ as Smart said‚ “have been killing people’s dogs and giving men in their 40s heart attacks‚” the New York Post reported.   “It turns out we’d brushed up against hairy processionary caterpillars and have been very lucky to come out of that one alive‚” Smart added. “The good news is it wasn’t a caffeine overdose‚ it wasn’t a hangover — it was a poisonous‚ toxic caterpillar.” Dornan began his career as a model in 2001. The conference itself‚ scheduled to take place from Sunday to Tuesday‚ focused on the spread of anti-Semitism since Hamas’ invasion of Israel on October 7‚ the deadliest day for Jews since World War II. During a discussion on media stories targeting Musk and his social media platform X‚ Musk and Shapiro agreed that X has become a massive work-around to information censors who manage traditional media outlets. “The legacy media for most of my life‚ up until the past 15 years‚ performed what they saw as a gatekeeping function. They were the ones who got to define the narrative.
