Hegseth says Trump, amid mixed messages on timeline and nation building, will decide when Iran war is over

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday said the U.S. will end its war with Iran "on our timeline" and "at our choosing" amid mixed messaging from the administration on the timing of the operation and its ultimate objective. Hegseth notably declined to give a further assessment on how much longer the military campaign will last, saying Tuesday would be the most intense day of strikes yet in the 11-day conflict and that it will be up to President Donald Trump to decide when the war is over. "The president has set a very specific mission to accomplish, and our job is to unrelentingly deliver that," Hegseth told reporters at a Pentagon press briefing...

Mike Johnson, in a split from Trump, says US shouldn't nation-build in Iran

House Speaker Mike Johnson said the United States should not be "nation-building" or intervening around the world, casting a stark contrast to President Donald Trump's recent framing of the international war he had hoped would be an opportunity for "building a new country" in Iran. The Republican House leader made the comments during an annual policy conference held in Florida on Tuesday, March 10. When asked by NBC News reporter Scott Wong whether he supported nation-building in Iran, Johnson responded: "I don't." "I don't think it's our role," Johnson said, before adding that he thinks America has a "very important role to play in the world" stretching back generations...

'This Is Not 2003': Hegseth Promises Iran War Will Not Turn Into Nation-Building

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth promised Tuesday that the Iran war "is not 2003" and will not look like another nation-building, regime-change war like in Iraq. Giving an update ten days into the war, Hegseth was joined by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine at the Pentagon. "This is not 2003. This is not endless nation-building under those types of quagmires we saw under Bush or Obama. It's not even close," Hegseth said. "Our generation of soldier will not let that happen again, and nor will this president, who very clearly ran against those kinds of never-ending, nebulously scoped missions — those days are dead."...

WADA to weigh barring Trump, US officials from LA Olympics and possibly World Cup over unpaid dues

The World Anti-Doping Agency is considering rewriting its rules to try barring President Donald Trump and all U.S. government officials from attending the LA Olympics in 2028 in a move that could also have implications for the World Cup being hosted by the U.S. this summer. The proposal, on the agenda for next Tuesday's meeting of the global drug-fighting watchdog's executive committee, is the latest maneuver to come out of a yearslong refusal of the U.S. government to pay its annual dues to WADA. The refusal is part of the American government's unanimous, bipartisan protest of the agency's handling of a case involving Chinese swimmers and other issues...

Cholesterol screening and treatment for younger adults, new guidelines suggest

New cholesterol guidelines advise doctors to begin screening and treating people in their 30s, long before the risks of a heart attack and stroke become significantly higher. For the first time, the American Heart Association, along with the American College of Cardiology and other medical groups also recommend screening for two biomarkers in the blood that have been linked to heart risks...
