2017 Post Comes Back to Haunt Simone Biles: ‘A Truly Sick Bully By Her Own Standard’

Amid backlash for her support of trans-identifying athletes — and a spat with former NCAA swimmer and Outkick podcast host (“Gaines for Girls”) Riley Gaines — a post from 2017 came back to haunt Olympic gymnast Simone Biles. “ahhhh good thing guys don’t compete against girls or he’d take all the gold medals !!” Biles said in October of 2017, in response to a post that has since been deleted — but her comment came just days after Chinese gymnast Xio Ruoteng won gold in the men’s all-around competition at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Canada and may have been in reference to that. Biles had not competed there, but two of her Olympic teammates medaled: Morgan Hurd and Jade Carey. ahhhh good thing guys don’t compete against girls or he’d take all the gold medals !! ? https://t.co/gto13RzC8Y — Simone Biles (@Simone_Biles) October 12, 2017 Gaines highlighted that post on Sunday, arguing that it showed Biles was well aware of the obvious advantage biological men have over women when it came to athletic competition. “Oop don’t you hate it when your past self completely undermines your current nonsensical argument? How has 2025 Simone reconciled with the fact 2017 Simone was a ‘truly sick bully’ by her own standard?” Gaines posted. Oop don’t you hate it when your past self completely undermines your current nonsensical argument? How has 2025 Simone reconciled with the fact 2017 Simone was a ‘truly sick bully’ by her own standard? https://t.co/aQjKuNSmMh — Riley Gaines (@Riley_Gaines_) June 8, 2025 Biles had picked a fight with Gaines two days prior — after Gaines commented on the fact that a boy had been allowed to lead his school’s girls’ softball team to a Minnesota state AAAA title — and she claimed that Gaines was a “truly sick bully” for calling that out as unfair. “You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser,” Biles said, making the attacks personal from the start. “You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!” Gaines pushed back, saying that neither she nor any other female athlete owed men the chance to take girls’ opportunities away. In her response, Biles resorted to attacking Gaines’ physical appearance: “bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.” bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male @Riley_Gaines_ — Simone Biles (@Simone_Biles) June 6, 2025

Newsom ‘Threatening’ Criminal Tax Evasion, Treasury Secretary Warns

Newsom ‘Threatening’ Criminal Tax Evasion, Treasury Secretary Warns

Governor Gavin Newsom is “threatening to commit criminal tax evasion,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sunday, amid an escalating war of words between California and the Trump administration. The warning from Bessent came in response to Newsom recently suggesting that his state “cut” off the more than $80 billion “more in taxes than we get back” in response to a CNN report with sources claiming President Donald Trump was preparing a broad cancellation of federal funding for California. “Governor [Gavin Newsom] is threatening to commit criminal tax evasion. His plan: defraud the American taxpayer and leave California residents on the hook for unpaid federal taxes,” Bessent said in a thread posted on X. “I am certain most California businesses know that failing to pay taxes owed to the Treasury constitutes tax evasion and have no intention of following the dangerous path Governor [Gavin Newsom] is threatening,” Bessent added. “I would warn state officials, including payroll managers, that federal law attaches personal liability to an ‘attempt to evade or defeat tax.'” Newsom’s “comments are extremely reckless. Instead of committing criminal tax evasion, Governor Newsom should consider a tax plan for California that follows the Trump Tax Cuts model and reduces the onerous state tax burden to allow families to keep more of their hard-earned money,” Bessent concluded. Bessent posted the thread as Newsom, a Democrat widely considered a potential candidate for the presidency, clashed with President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over troop deployments to California in an effort to quell violent anti-ICE protests that have taken place in and around Los Angeles over the weekend. After Hegseth said active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton would be mobilized to assist National Guardsmen if the chaos persists, Newsom accused the Defense Secretary of exhibiting “deranged behavior” for “threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its own citizens.” In response, Hegseth said on X, “Deranged = allowing your city to burn & law enforcement to be attacked. There is plenty of room for peaceful protest, but ZERO tolerance for attacking federal agents who are doing their job. The National Guard, and Marines if need be, stand with ICE.”

It’s never too late to start eating better to prevent dementia, according a new analysis of research involving 90,000 adults. People over the age of 45 who followed a dietary pattern known as the MIND diet were “significantly” less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease or related forms of dementia, said the University of Hawaii scientists. China’s Cozy Relationship With One of America’s Caribbean Neighbors Raises Red Flags

While the Trump administration is working to decrease U.S. dependency on Chinese goods by bolstering U.S. manufacturing, one of America’s trading partners and neighbors to the south appears to be growing increasingly friendly with the Chinese Communist Party, posing a threat to U.S. interests. “The Dominican Republic is key to China’s strategy to isolate the U.S. in the Caribbean,” Connie Mack IV, a former Republican congressman from Florida, tells The Daily Signal. The Dominican Republic established diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China in 2018, and under then-Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina, the Caribbean nation signed onto China’s Belt and Road Initiative and no longer recognizes Taiwan’s independence from China. “The Medina government committed to collaboration with the PRC in numerous fields, including PRC training of Dominican Foreign Ministry personnel, the establishment of a Confucius Institute, accepting a gift of 148 Chinese military and police vehicles … plus agreement in principle to PRC construction of a major new port facility in Manzanillo, electricity generation, and other infrastructure,” according to a report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank.   While Medina deepened ties with China, even allowing China to have an office in the Presidential Palace, he did not visit the U.S. during his eight years in office from 2012 to 2020.   When Luis Abinader became president in 2020, he pledged to strengthen relations with the U.S. and limit Chinese investment.   “If China wants to invest in nonstrategic areas of the Dominican government, its investment is welcome, but the Dominican government’s decision is to have a strategic alliance with the United States,” Abinader said publicly shortly after taking office.   While “China’s advance under the Abinader government has proceeded slowly,” according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the relationship between the two nations remains strong.   During a meeting between Abinader and the Dominican Republic’s foreign minister with Chinese officials in 2022, Dominican officials expressed a readiness to “deepen practical cooperation with China and Chinese companies,” according to a report from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.   “The Dominican Republic highly appreciates the important contributions made by President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government to maintaining world peace and stability,” according to the Chinese report.   In 2023, top Dominican officials met with Chinese counterparts in talks focused on political and economic coordination. The same year, the Dominican Republic also sent soldiers to China to participate in a military exercise in Xinjiang, where the CCP is reported to have imprisoned an unknown number of Uyghur Muslims.   The Dominican Republic is one of China’s largest trading partners in the Caribbean, and in 2024, bilateral trade between the two countries reached over $5 billion, according to Trading Economics. And most recently, the Dominican Republic sent its trade officials in May to a forum aimed at strengthening ties between Latin America, the Caribbean, and the People’s Republic of China.  America’s relationship with the Dominican Republic is “solid, but complex,” according to the U.S. State Department.   Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Dominican Republic during his first international trip as Trump’s top diplomat and spoke with Abinader as recently as May.   “Under Joe Biden, the U.S. turned a blind eye to the Dominican Republic’s slouch towards Beijing,” Mack, the former Florida lawmaker, said. “The Rubio State Department cannot make the same mistake. They must remove the blinders they have about the current Dominican government. They do not support the America First agenda.” Given the Dominican Republic’s robust economy and proximity to the U.S., separated only by about 800 miles of the Atlantic Ocean, it is in America’s interest that the Dominican Republic’s “interactions with the PRC are conducted within the framework of transparency, strong institutions, and a level playing field, and that PRC activities in the country … [do] not undermine U.S.-Dominican security,” the Center for Strategic and International Studies wrote. Ex-NPR Senior Editor Uri Berliner Calls ‘Bulls***’ on NPR’s Awful Jewish Coverage

The Thursday episode of the “Ask a Jew” podcast hosted Uri Berliner, former senior business editor at NPR, who was suspended and later resigned from the outlet for his damning critique of the insular liberal bias of taxpayer funded NPR. Hosts Yael Bar tur and Chaya Leah Sufrin asked Berliner about how NPR covered Israel, and the resulting discussion was withering. Berliner characterized one NPR story on anti-Semitism in particular as “bullshit.” Yael Bar tur: So here's a line from May 22 in NPR. It says, “Many U.S. and Israeli officials identified the attacks as the latest in a marked rise of anti-Semitic incidents in recent years. And more notably, as Israel ramps up its offensive in Gaza, where the risk of famine looms for a population ground down by a months-long blockade.” (NPR's “more notably” sentence appears to suggest the rise in anti-Semitic violence is an understandable response to Israel’s offensive in Gaza.) Berliner called “BS” on his former employer.  Bar tur: ….is this bias, and you've written a lot about the bias against, you know, conservatives and the bias when it comes to COVID. Is it coming from the editors and the staff or is it a response to a demanding audience? Berliner: No, it's definitely not from a demanding audience. And the first story that you mentioned where it said that the rise in anti-Semitism was most notably in response to the current situation with the threat of malnutrition. I mean, there's no other way to put it, but that's bullshit. I mean, that's just not true. I mean, as we all know, there was a rise in anti-Semitism before October, in the number of hate crimes. Co-host Sufrin later added an anecdote about how her Jewish friends were turning away from NPR in "mourning" over its Israel coverage, and Berliner saw NPR as alienating everyone but its "hard left" audience. Sufrin: I have a lot of friends who were religious NPR listeners, you know....40, 50, 60-years-old women who, this is where they got all their news. This was a, [NPR talk show host] "Terry Gross was their best friend," and, you know, whatever. And they loved it. And they're Jewish, not religious, not Orthodox, but very pro-Israel and they can't listen to NPR anymore. And, and I feel like we're really mourning something…. Berliner: ….I think the women that you described as, you know, 40- to 60-year-old women, Jewish or not, that's NPR's core audience. Yeah. So if they're alienating them, I mean, I don't know how many of them are Jewish, but still, I think that's a problem. That's a real problem. And I think that what happened at NPR -- and I wrote about this -- the audience used to be a little tilted towards liberal, but there were a lot of conservatives and moderates and people out in the heartland, the farmers would listen to it on their tractors. And now the audience is just hard left, pretty much. The hosts were upset about NPR Public Editor Kelly McBride's November 2023 column on whether they had a bias in the Israel-Hamas war. As usual, McBride typically rushes to the network's defense and cited a study that said NPR was quite fair and balanced..
