Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas refused to take responsibility for the 2023 murder and rape of a Maryland mother of five that was allegedly committed by an El Salvadoran who illegally crossed into the United States in February 2023. Rachel Morin was found dead near a hiking trail 10 months ago. Maryland law enforcement recently announced they had arrested Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez for the crime. “I do want to ask you about the murder of this Maryland mother that has been in the news. It’s gotten a lot of attention. She was killed last year. An undocumented immigrant was just arrested in her death last week. He’s suspected of multiple crimes since he crossed the border illegally in early 2023," CNN host Jim Acosta said. "Obviously, you know, we know that studies show that undocumented immigrants don’t commit more crimes statistically than native-born U.S. citizens. But what do you say to critics who blame the administration for allowing something like this to happen? Obviously, this is something that you hear in right-wing media all the time," Acosta added. 'American citizens are not safe because of their failed immigration policies.' “Jim, first and foremost, of course, our hearts break for the children, the family, the loved ones, the friends of the individual who was murdered, the woman, the mother. Jim, a criminal is responsible for the criminal act. The criminal who committed this heinous act should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law and forcefully so. That is my response," Mayorkas replied. Harford County Sheriff Jeffery Gahler said Morin was likely not Martinez-Hernandez's first victim since illegally entering the United States. "This suspect fled to the United States after murdering a young woman in El Salvador in January 2023," Gahler said. "Once here, he brutally attacked a nine-year-old girl and her mother during a home invasion in Los Angeles in March 2023." DNA evidence collected from the March 2023 crime scene of the Los Angeles attack linked Martinez-Hernandez to the murder of Morin. "We are 1,800 miles from the southern border. And American citizens are not safe because of their failed immigration policies," Gahler said. Glenn Beck showed the footage from a recent press conference during which KJP claimed that the viral videos of Biden’s goofs were “edited,” “cheap-fakes,” and “deepfakes.” “There seems to be a sort of rash of videos that have been edited to make the president appear especially frail or mentally confused,” one reporter stated. “I'm wondering if the White House is especially worried about the fact that this appears to be a pattern.” Before we get to KJP’s answer, it would be a crime to overlook the framing of the question itself. “That question is shaped [to say] that the president is fine, there’s no problem with the president,” Glenn points out. “I think you all have called this the cheap-fakes video, and that's exactly what they are. They are cheap-fakes videos, they are done in bad faith, and some of your news organizations have been very clear ... that these right-wing critics of the president have a credibility problem because fact checkers have repeatedly caught them pushing misinformation [and] disinformation,” was KJP’s answer. A teen who is currently in jail in L.A. County on suspicion of murder of a homeless man acted in self-defense, his friends say.Just after 8 p.m. on Monday, 19-year-old Ivan Gallegos and two friends heard the sound of a car alarm nearby. After calling police, they then went to investigate the alarm for themselves. 'Throughout his childhood, Ivan navigated the realities of both his parents’ involvement in gang activities, leading to their intermittent incarceration.'They found a 27-year-old homeless man sitting in a car that belonged to one of their other friends who was not present at the time. The car was parked on private property along the University of Southern California's Fraternity Row. The three young men confronted the vagrant, who may have broken into other cars in the area as well. When the men demanded that he leave the area, the vagrant retorted that he had a gun on him and that the car now belonged to him, Los Angeles magazine reported. A scuffle then ensued, and the homeless man allegedly reached for his waistband, according to a GoFundMe account established for Gallegos, ostensibly prompting Gallegos to stab the man in self-defense. The vagrant died from his injuries at the scene. It is unclear why Gallegos may have had a knife on him. No gun was ever recovered from the scene."He feared for his life," one of Gallegos’ friends told L.A. magazine. "He had to defend himself.""When I heard what happened, I immediately knew it wasn't because he had malintent," another said. "Something had to have happened in order for him to do what he did."Despite their claims of self-defense, police immediately arrested Gallegos on suspicion of murder and booked him into county jail, where he remains on $2 million bail, as Blaze News previously reported. As of Tuesday morning, the DA had not filed any charges against him.Gallegos is a member of Delta Tau Delta who just completed his sophomore year at USC, studying business. On his LinkedIn profile, he also claims to be the first in his family to go to college. According to a feature piece from USC Annenberg Media, Gallegos grew up in L.A. under difficult circumstances. "Throughout his childhood, Ivan navigated the realities of both his parents’ involvement in gang activities, leading to their intermittent incarceration," the article said, adding that as a child, he was frequently exposed to "drugs, gangs, and prostitution."The area where the stabbing occurred is also rife with violence and crime, largely on account of the high homeless population, other USC students claimed."Street lights, a lot of them, you'll find, are out," one student said. "What's happening is they're tearing out these boxes and selling them, getting money for them, so they're taking the copper wire.
