Vice President Kamala Harris‘ campaign hired Rev. Jennifer Butler on Wednesday as its national faith engagement director. The leftist activist claims that Christianity has been “hijacked by white supremacists” and believes the Democratic ticket gives Christians “an opportunity to reclaim faith for justice.” Butler is a minister in the liberal Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination and founded the leftist think tank and activist group, Faith in Public Life, in 2005, Religion News Service reported. Faith in Public Life has campaigned for leftist policies on issues ranging from immigration and voting to abortion and LGBT rights. Now, the PC USA minister directs most of her public comments toward attacking Republicans and condemning “Christian nationalism.” Fox News reported that in 2022, Butler wrote a response to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot and the months of Congressional hearings that took place after and claimed that “white supremacists” were “hijack[ing]” the Christian faith. She also called on Christians to “denounce Christian nationalism.” “We must do more than just watch the January 6th hearings aghast. We cannot allow our faith to continue to be hijacked by white supremacists covered in religious language,” she wrote. “For the sake of our faith and our democracy, we must denounce Christian nationalism and reclaim a faith that values and affirms the human dignity of all people. Butler also reposted a tweet in 2021 that said, “It’s impossible to follow Jesus and not embrace CRT [Critical Race Theory]. Pass it on.” In November 2023, Butler called Republican and devout Christian Rep. Mike Johnson’s election as Speaker of the House “a threat to global democracy.” She argued that Johnson represents political leaders who manipulate religion and called on “religious communities in the US” to “challenge the growth of Christian nationalism.” Two years prior, in November of 2021, Butler joined a list of faith leaders who condemned the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse after he shot three protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in self-defense. Butler accused Rittenhouse of “murdering” the two men who died after they were shot and called the not-guilty verdict “the newest face of an old evil.” After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Former President Donald Trump made a new campaign promise on Thursday, saying his administration would pay for in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments for “all Americans” or mandate that insurance companies pay for it. Asked about IVF by a reporter before his rally in Potterville, Michigan, Trump said he was “always for IVF.” “It’s helping women and men and families,” he said, adding, “We need great children, beautiful children in our country; we actually need them. The ruling caused an uproar from Democrat and Republican politicians, including Trump, who called on the Alabama legislature to act to protect access to IVF. “Under my leadership, the Republican Party will always support the creation of strong, thriving, healthy American families. We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder! That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments like IVF in every State in America,” Trump wrote at the time. “Like the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of Americans, including the VAST MAJORITY of Republicans, Conservatives, Christians, and Pro-Life Americans, I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples who are trying to have a precious baby. Despite Trump’s support of IVF, Vice President Kamala Harris has attacked Trump over the issue and blamed him for the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling. “He literally is the architect of this entire crisis,” Harris said in a video. “What happened in Alabama is a direct result of what happened in the United States Supreme Court. He hand-picked three members of the United States Supreme Court with the full intention for them to overturn Roe v. Wade.”

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Federal immigration authorities confirmed that an MS-13 gang member charged in a shooting spree in Mississippi last week is an illegal migrant who had been previously deported from the U.S. Fredy Antonio Amaya-Marin is a 39-year-old Salvadoran national living in the U.S. illegally, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation on Thursday. The Philadelphia, Miss., Police Department arrested Amaya-Marin on Aug. 24 for allegedly shooting at about 15 vehicles and charged him with attempted murder. Multiple shootings targeting vehicles passing through a road in Philadelphia, Miss., occurred over the course of several days last week, according to WLBT-TV, Channel 3, the NBC affiliate in Jackson, Miss. Authorities eventually apprehended a man who identified himself as Jonathan Salvador, who allegedly fired at passing cars on Friday near his home with no discernible motive. After administering a biometric screening, authorities determined this man to be Amaya-Marin, and discovered he had been deported from the country before unlawfully returning, according to ICE. Border Patrol agents first encountered Amaya-Marin on July 2, 2007, near Hebbronville, Texas, after he unlawfully crossed into the country, according to ICE. He was placed into the agency’s custody and removed by Enforcement and Removal Operations several days later. The Salvadoran national again illegally entered the country at some point after his 2007 deportation, but federal immigration authorities are unsure when or where, according to ICE. Local police determined that Amaya-Marin is a member of MS-13, an international criminal gang that originated in Los Angeles but primarily comprises Salvadoran nationals, according to WLBT-TV. Gang members are known for their violence and brutality, with one MS-13 leader pleading guilty last month to charges related to the gruesome killings of high school girls with baseball bats and a machete. Police say they have yet to determine a motive for the shootings, but the Salvadoran’s roommates say he started acting strange a couple of months ago. “They stated to us that during the day, he was fine, and when nightfall came, he was just a totally different person,” Philadelphia, Miss., police Capt. Desmond Jones told local media. “And it kind of made them uneasy, and they were kind of feeling suspicious about it.” ICE confirmed to the DCNF that a detainer request has been lodged with the Winston-Choctaw County Jail, where Amaya-Marin is being held. Immigration detainers ask that local authorities hold onto a noncitizen in their custody long enough for a deportation officer to arrive and assume custody of that individual. The Salvadoran national is charged with attempted murder, illegal reentry after deportation, and being an illegal migrant in possession of a firearm, according to WLBT-TV. The incident makes Amaya-Marin one of the countless “unknown got-aways” who enter the U.S. illegally and undetected by federal immigration authorities. Roughly 2 million known got-aways have entered the country since the beginning of the Biden-Harris administration, a congressional source confirmed to the DCNF earlier this year.
