Here’s why you should never leave McDonald’s without a receipt

Walking out of McDonald’s with a satisfying meal in your belly and your wallet not much lighter is a familiar scenario for many. Yet‚ most of us discard our receipts without a second thought‚ unaware of the potential benefits those little pieces of paper hold. A former McDonald’s employee has revealed a compelling reason to... Outlander: Blood of My Blood Casts More of Jamie Fraser’s Blood Relations (and Others)

News Outlander: Blood of My Blood Outlander: Blood of My Blood Casts More of Jamie Fraser’s Blood Relations (and Others) The prequel series is shaping up with more core characters cast By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on April 3‚ 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share The prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood is moving ever forward‚ and Starz announced today a slew of new actors joining the project. The show‚ which centers on the parents of Outlander’s Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) as well as the parents of his love Claire Fraser (Catriona Balfe)‚ unfolds in separate timelines (for part of it‚ at least). Here’s the official synopsis for the series: Outlander: Blood of My Blood will explore the lives and relationships of Jamie’s parents‚ Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy)‚ and Claire’s parents‚ Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods‚ with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England. As the synopsis reveals‚ we already know who will be playing those four core parts‚ with Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy playing the Frasers and Hermione Corfeld‚ and Jeremy Irvine taking on the roles of Claire’s parents. Today we got four more actors to add to the call sheet. Brian McCardie (Rob Roy)‚ Jhon Lumsden (Torchwood: The Story Continues podcast)‚ Sara Vickers (Watchmen)‚ and Peter Mullan (Ozark) are in Blood of My Blood as well. McCardie (who also played a completely different character‚ Sir Marcus MacRannoch‚ in Outlander’s first season) is playing Isaac Grant‚ the leader of his clan in 18th century Scotland; Lumsden plays his son‚ Malcolm‚ who is a potential suitor to Slater’s Ellen Mackenzie; Vickers is Davina Porter‚ a housekeeper and mom to Brian Fraser (a.k.a. Jamie Fraser’s grandmother); and Mullan is taking on the role of Red Jacob MacKenzie‚ Laird of Clan MacKenzie and father to Ellen‚ Dougal‚ Colum‚ Janet and Jocasta. No news on when Blood of My Blood will come out‚ but the ten-episode season is now in production in Scotland. In the meantime‚ we also have the back half of Outlander’s seventh season to look forward to‚ as that’s set to premiere on Starz in November 2024. Iconic Comic The Yellow M to Get Live-Action Film Adaptation

News The Yellow M Iconic Comic The Yellow M to Get Live-Action Film Adaptation The European cult classic comic is getting a big-screen treatment By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on April 3‚ 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share The Belgian production company Belga Films has tapped French director Cédric Nicolas-Troyan to helm an English-language‚ live-action adaption of the 1950s comic‚ The Yellow M. The Yellow M is the sixth volume in Blake and Mortimer‚ one of Europe’s most popular comic book series in the 1950s. The story centers on a villain who leaves a giant yellow “M” at the scenes of his crimes‚ with Blake and Mortimer called in to investigate. The two uncover that the villain behind these crimes (and also kidnappings) can manipulate others’ minds via taking control of something called the Mega Wave‚ a part of the brain that makes people compliant and docile to the controller.   “The strength of the comics lies in its themes‚ still resonating today‚” Belga Studios producer Jean-Jacques Neira told Deadline in a statement. “Brain control through screens endangers our democracies more than ever. As we grapple with the importance of moral responsibility‚ M offers a timely reminder to embrace critical thinking and positive impact in our era dominated by screens.” Nicolas-Troyan comes to the project after having directed films like The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Kate. “I grew up with these characters‚ they are a big deal. They have been around for a while and beloved by many. So‚ obviously‚ I’m committed to honoring the comics and bring this rich and colorful universe to life while giving it a contemporary touch with plenty of heart and action‚” he said in a statement to Deadline. He added‚ “I’m also very excited by the creative freedom allowed on such a European independent production. So‚ when Belga Films approached me to direct and produce such an iconic property it was impossible for me to pass on the opportunity.” Jan Kounen (Flight of the Storks‚ Coco Chanel &; Igor Stravinsky) and Jay Ferguson penned the script for the adaptation‚ with revisions by Nicolas-Troyan. No news yet on when the film will go into production‚ much less make its way to a screen near you. Ryan Coogler’s Supernatural Horror Thriller Starring Michael B. Jordan Expands Its Cast

News Ryan Coogler Ryan Coogler’s Supernatural Horror Thriller Starring Michael B. Jordan Expands Its Cast Jordan might be playing twins? Their might be vampires? The important part is that we get Delroy Lindo By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on April 3‚ 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share The details around the new supernatural horror thriller that Black Panther writer-director Ryan Coogler has in the works at Warner Bros. have been kept very hush-hush. News has been leaking out‚ however‚ with The Hollywood Reporter sharing that the movie takes place in the Jim Crow South and may or may not include vampires and/or “Southern supernatural traditions.” We also have some casting news. Michael B. Jordan (pictured above in Black Panther; other credits include Creed and Fahrenheit 451) is set to star in what THR is reporting may be dual roles. We also found out today from THR that Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty‚ playing Mr. Nancy in the upcoming Anansi Boys series) is on board to play a character with “a musical element‚” and that (via Deadline) Jack O’Connell (Unbroken‚ Ferrari) will play the villain. This isn’t the only project that Coogler has in the works. Last March‚ we found out that the writer-director is also working on a reboot or revival of The X-Files. Where that project stands‚ and whether Coogler is doing more than producing it is unknown‚ though we do know that there has been talk of a Black Panther 3 and that his production company is behind the upcoming Marvel series‚ Ironheart. As for this new (to us) Warner Bros. project‚ THR reported that it will go into production in New Orleans later this spring‚ and that the studio currently has it set to release on March 7‚ 2025. Hopefully we’ll get more details about the film‚ including its title and what the story is‚ before then! [end-mark] The post Ryan Coogler’s Supernatural Horror Thriller Starring Michael B. Biden DOJ Targets Utah Prison Agency’s Policies After Trans Prisoner Cut Off Testicles

President Joe Biden’s Justice Department announced Wednesday that it had filed a lawsuit accusing the state of Utah‚ and its Department of Corrections‚ of violating the Americans with Disabilities Act in failing to give a man hormones for his gender dysphoria. The prisoner‚ who identifies as a transgender woman‚ is said to have requested to purchase women’s clothing and “personal items in the commissary‚” such as women’s underwear and makeup. He also wanted to be housed with female prisoners‚ the DOJ said. The Utah Department of Corrections assigns prison accommodations based upon sex at “commitment‚” when staffers conduct a visual search of genitals‚ according to the Justice Department. The Utah Department of Corrections did not grant those requests‚ the DOJ said‚ accusing the Utah agency of causing the man’s gender dysphoria to worsen. “Twenty-two months after entering custody‚” the DOJ said‚ the trans-identifying prisoner “performed dangerous self-surgery and removed [his] own testicles.” complaint-utah_department_of_correctionsDownload “People with gender dysphoria‚ including those held in jails and prisons‚ are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act and are entitled to equal access to medical care‚ just like anyone else with a disability‚” Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division said in a statement. “Delays or refusals to provide medical treatment for people with gender dysphoria can cause irreparable harm‚ including debilitating distress‚ depression‚ attempts at self-treatment and even death by suicide‚” Clarke added. “The Civil Rights Division is committed to protecting the rights of all people with disabilities in our country‚ including those who experience gender dysphoria—and those rights are not given up at the jailhouse door.” The DOJ also accused the Utah Department of Corrections of “imposing unnecessary eligibility criteria for assessment and treatment for gender dysphoria that it does not require for other conditions.” A letter of findings to the Utah agency states that the prison system routes requests for “medical care” for gender dysphoria through its gender dysphoria committee. If a man in the Utah Department of Corrections self-identifies as a transgender woman‚ he will have to request an evaluation by the agency’s mental health staff‚ and these staffers then present their findings to the gender dysphoria committee. The committee will decide whether or not to refer the man to a health care provider for a diagnostic evaluation for gender dysphoria‚ and if the committee approves the evaluation‚ the Department of Corrections will refer the individual to its contract psychologist‚ according to the letter of findings. letter_of_findings-utah_department_of_correctionsDownload “If the committee denies the evaluation‚ the incarcerated person must wait one year before they are eligible to request diagnostic services again‚” the letter said. “After a diagnostic assessment‚ [the Utah Department of Corrections] medical staff will consider the psychologist’s recommendations and may order treatment with hormones‚ but not ‘[c]osmetic or elective surgical procedures for the purpose of sex reassignment.’” The Justice Department claims that the committee included people who were reluctant to prescribe hormones for gender dysphoria‚ calling that “overt bias against the individuals seeking care.” When the Department of Corrections finally allowed the prisoner identified in the Justice Department’s lawsuit to start hormonal medication‚ the DOJ claimed‚ the prisoner’s Department of Corrections doctor tried to talk him out of taking hormones. The DOJ claims that the doctor then failed to take “basic steps to ensure that it was provided safely and effectively‚” such as conducting routine laboratory testing. The Justice Department is calling on the Utah agency to adopt‚ revise‚ and implement new policies that let men who think they are women or women who think they are men to obtain “health care services” for gender dysphoria‚ and to “reasonably modify UDOC policies‚ practices‚ and procedures when necessary to ensure that individuals with gender dysphoria have equal access to all UDOC services‚ programs‚ and activities including commissary‚ pat and visual searches‚ housing‚ and required and optional programming.” The Utah Department of Corrections said in a March 12 statement that it is working to address the “complex” issue and described itself as “blindsided” by the DOJ’s announcement regarding its findings in March. “We have also taken steps on our own‚ and as a state‚ to address the needs of inmates while maintaining the highest safety standards‚” Executive Director Brian Redd said in a statement. “We fundamentally disagree with the DOJ on key issues‚ and are disappointed with their approach.” The post Biden DOJ Targets Utah Prison Agency’s Policies After Trans Prisoner Cut Off Testicles appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Automobile ‘Bidenvilles’ Are the New Shantytowns Amid US Housing Affordability Crisis

When people couldn’t afford housing during the Great Depression‚ they built shantytowns from scrap construction supplies and named them “Hoovervilles‚” after President Herbert Hoover. Today‚ Americans increasingly live out of their cars because they can’t afford housing. If history is any guide‚ will parking lots full of Americans soon be known as “Bidenvilles”? The problem has gotten so bad that Sedona‚ Arizona‚ recently set aside a parking lot exclusively for these homeless workers. The city is even installing toilets and showers for the new occupants. Apparently‚ the City Council thought installing temporary utilities was cheaper than solving the area’s cost-of-living crisis. And what a crisis it is. The average home in the city sells for $930‚000‚ while most of the housing available for rent is not apartments‚ but luxury homes targeted at wealthy people on vacation. With such a shortage of middle-class housing and with starter homes essentially nonexistent‚ low- and even middle-income blue-collar workers have nowhere to go at night but their back seat. Much like America’s Great Depression in the 1930s‚ this marks a serious regression in our national standard of living. But shantytowns were not prevalent in the 1920s (a decade that began with a depression) or the 1910s. Nor were they ubiquitous following the Panic of 1907‚ which set off one of the worst recessions in American history. Indeed‚ Americans in the Great Depression faced such a cost-of-living crisis that many were forced to accept a standard of living below what their parents and even their grandparents had. Fast-forward about 90 years‚ and countless families are in the same boat. Many young people today don’t think they’ll ever be able to achieve the American dream of homeownership that their parents and grandparents achieved. The worst inflation in 40 years‚ rising interest rates‚ and a collapse of real (inflation-adjusted) earnings mean a huge step backward financially. That inflation has pushed up rents so much that young Americans are moving back in with their parents at rates not seen since the Great Depression because they can’t make it on their own. Sometimes‚ they can’t even make it with multiple roommates. But many people cannot move back in with family‚ so the car it is. The housing problem is not limited to wealthy towns in Arizona‚ however. It is systemic. The monthly mortgage payment on a median-price home has doubled since January 2021‚ and rents are at record highs. Like the Great Depression‚ this disaster stems from impolitic public policy. For the past several years‚ the government has spent‚ borrowed and created trillions of dollars it didn’t have. The predictable result of this profligacy was runaway inflation‚ followed by equally foreseeable interest rate increases. The deadly combination of high prices and high interest rates has frozen the housing market and reduced homeownership affordability metrics to near-record lows. In several major metropolitan areas‚ it takes more than 100% of the median household after-tax income to afford a median-price home. Since rents and virtually all other prices have risen so much faster than incomes over the past three years‚ even renting is unaffordable today‚ so many people have to go into debt to keep a roof over their heads. And for some‚ that’s a car roof. This is the kind of story you might expect from a Third World country or somewhere behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War‚ not the largest economy in the world—at least not outside of a depression like the one in the 1930s. Hoover certainly deserved some blame for the Great Depression‚ but so did the progressives in Congress‚ who came from both parties and repeatedly voted to meddle in the economy instead of allowing it to recover from the initial downturn. Similarly‚ President Joe Biden deserves blame for constantly advocating runaway government spending. But today’s multitrillion-dollar deficits are also made possible by the big spenders in Congress‚ who come from both parties. If this bipartisan prodigality of Washington continues‚ Bidenvilles will only become more widespread as the housing affordability crisis worsens.
