As Minnesota Governor Tim Walz comes under fire for making misleading claims about his military service, IVF treatments, and drunk driving arrest, it seems the vice presidential nominee has also made dubious claims about winning teaching awards. A Daily Wire review found several claims that Walz, a former high school teacher, won either one or two Minnesota Teacher of the Year awards. In reality, he won no such title. In a 2005 article in the Austin Daily Herald, a reporter who appears to have gotten his information directly from Walz wrote that “Twice, [Walz] was selected a Minnesota teacher of the year for ethics and excellence in education.” A local paper’s glowing profile of Tim Walz in 2005: Walz “served a tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom” “He was deployed overseas with his National Guard field artillery unit in Operation Iraqi Freedom.” It appears the reporter interviewed Walz for this piece…? pic.twitter.com/ID3Q2Fm4jE — Techno Fog (@Techno_Fog) August 10, 2024 Walz’s biography at VoteSmart lists three teaching awards — a 2002 “Ethics in Education,” award, a 2003 Minnesota Teacher of Excellence award, and the 2003 Mankato Teacher of the Year award. In a 2006 congressional campaign ad, a voiceover simply claims that Walz was “teacher of the year,”  leaving the impression Walz won a state or national award. Here is another example of Tim Walz using his Command Sergeant Major rank in a 2006 campaign ad. Walz even implies that he served in Afghanistan. He also received an Ethics in Education award from the Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation.” Walz’s 2018 campaign website reportedly claimed he won the 2003 Minnesota Teacher of Excellence award, according to On The Issues, which cites the website. The website no longer exists, and instead redirects visitors to Vice President Kamala Harris’ main campaign website. But Walz was never selected as a Minnesota Teacher of the Year recipient. A  website for the award includes a list of past nominees – and Walz’s name does not appear. Walz did win the Mankato Teachers’ Association’s Teacher of the Year award — a prize given by members of the local teachers’ union — in 2002. In 2003, Walz won an Ethics Award from the Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation, which comes with a $10,000 prize. But this is not a “Teacher of the Year” award, nor is it two awards, as the Chadron State College article claimed. Walz has won two awards related to his teaching, but he did not win any statewide “Teacher of the Year” awards, as his campaign has led many to believe. The governor’s claims about his awards are similar to misleading statements he has made about his military service. He served honorably, but he did not see combat in the Middle East or retire as a command sergeant major, as he has claimed or implied multiple times. Requests to Walz and the Harris-Walz campaign were not returned prior to press time.

The competition on this season of America’s Got Talent is heating up during the season 19 quarterfinals. In a new twist this year, each judge has a Live Golden Buzzer they can bestow on one act they deem worthy of heading straight to the finals. Sofia Verga was last week’s Live Gold Buzzer holder and gave it to the Hakuna Matata Acrobats. On last night’s show, it was judge Howie Mandel’s turn to hand out the prize, but something unprecedented happened instead. The Japanese Group Airfootworks Put On A Heck Of A Show Their performance, a mixture of dance and acrobatics, blew the judges away. And while it wasn’t Simon Cowell’s turn to press the Golden Buzzer, he did it anyway. Terry Crews asked Simon what he thought of the performance and the judge said, “I am just about to get myself fired,” before standing up and slamming the Golden Buzzer in front of Howie. Poor Howie yelled, “I feel like I’ve been abused!” But it appeared the pair were both trying to hit the buzzer, and Terry said Howie actually beat Simon to it. A cheerful Simon admitted, “I just couldn’t help myself!” The celebration was incredible with the members of Airfootworks overwhelmed with excitement as Simon and Howie both joined them on the stage. Fans of Airfootworks loved the moment and felt the group was more than deserving of their Golden Buzzer. One fan wrote on AGT’s YouTube channel, “The shapes being in sync with the dancing in the background was such a nice touch to their performance, deserved golden buzzer.” “They definitely deserved that Golden Buzzer, because that was amazing! Experiencer: I feel I have said “too much” and these “monsters” tell me hints to help me with minor and major things. But my problem is that I don’t have enough faith in “them.”I received the following email:"It wasn’t until quite recently that I realized my odd hallucinations and “awake nightmares” which had caused me to believe that I was either insane or possessed by some sort of demon although I did not believe in demons. At 12 years old I confided in a psychiatrist about a single event and it was determined I suffer from Hypnagogia. The psychiatrist noted that I had a vivid hallucination and I was admitted to hospital. Since then I have not shared my experiences and never found out what they were — until quite recently I stumbled upon a UFO and strange events website. There were others with the same experience I had!! The relief, the Eureka moment, and I have suffered from great fear, insomnia, and the suspicion that I was quite insane deep down inside.Whew...OK, just talking about this upsets me but there are others here with much more descriptive events. Why aren’t these on the news? Why isn’t this accepted in Western society? It’s baffling! This denial of spirit/alien? beings has ruined my life, and for some of my adult life was involved in drugs, in and out of mental hospitals. I am very sad that I did not have the opportunity to discover others' experiences earlier. Yes, even in this day and age of the internet, etc. I never, never put two and two together until recently! I would laugh at anyone with a belief in these things. How could I have not seen what it really was? Denial.When I was very young, I must have been around 5 or 6 I was sleeping at the edge of the bed that my elder sister and I shared. Everyone was asleep except (I think) my father was in the living room watching TV. I woke up in the middle of the night for no reason but normal for a child? A “visitor” suddenly appeared in my bedroom doorway, he was leaning against the frame just staring at me. He was nothing but a deep black cut-out shape of a completely motionless man. I told myself it was an illusion and shut my eyes tight and held my breath (so the man couldn’t see me) but, even with my eyes closed I could still SEE him quite evidently (how?). He gave me the impression that he found it humorous that I was trying to “hide” and I really could feel his eyes. I lie there wishing someone in the household would wake up and make this “man” go away. I held my breath as long as I could...I was so terrified, I thought I would die of fright. Can you imagine being this afraid? I remember trying to damper my heartbeat because he could “hear” it. It was beating so hard I think I could see the beats coming up through the blankets. I must have either passed out from holding my breath or from fright. I never told anyone (that I know of or can remember, that is...)The next time, I was lying on my grandmother's guest bed while I was over for a visit. I was 11 or 12 years old. I was just lying there thinking...not sleepy nor wanting to sleep. Suddenly I heard a sound getting louder and louder. It sounded like thousands of “electric bees”. It made my head “vibrate”. The “bees” sound slowly formed itself into words. It reminds me of trying to find an AM radio station and just tuning in to clarity. The “sound” (I will try to explain it as best I can, it defies what I know of physics so far) “took” me up in the air a la Scrooge being led by a ghost of Xmas past! I was “flown” over what I think to be the 1940s. I could hear the “bees” chanting louder and louder! Up to a crescendo that inferred something like “we are legions”. The “vision” I saw was Hitler, and he had not thousands of followers but millions! I was shown the colors red, white, and black. They have some significance that the “electric bees” wanted me to note. I was “brought back” and found myself wide awake back on the bed and thinking to myself “Hmm, wow, this must be what insane people feel when they hallucinate. This is very strange and I must seek professional help” but somehow even at my youth I did not believe the good doctor's explanation.Fast forward to adult married life. I warned my new husband “Be careful, since we now share a bed I must confide in you that I suffer from extreme night terrors where I get “monsters” bothering me and you must wake me when I call for you in my sleep.” Yes...this refrain is common when I share a bed with anyone. Sometimes I can manage to get out a muffled “hellllp meeee...wake me up...monsters..”The “nightmares” always start with a weird noise, like the sound you imagine you feel if you are being electrocuted (the best I can describe it). There have been several instances in the past year where my mate “rescued” me. These “monsters” all come armed with nightmares with a common theme/message. In one of my nightmares, a soothing and calm man tried to explain the symbols in the dream, he even pointed and made some verbalizations that I could not make out. It is as if “they” were doing their very best trying to convince me of something but that I cannot speak their language. In this vision, I was witness to a major “Battlestar Galactica” scene, and many planets, namely Saturn, etc., and Earth were involved in a stellar battle...there was cannibalism, blood, guts, horror! Absolute horror (The more I tell these stories the more descriptive they get, as I now can make out more details that I am not trying to stuff the memories deep inside anymore). I totally understand the messages now but I cannot explain them, not because it is impossible, but that you will find it trite and probably won’t believe it. Even if you believe my experiences, which in fact did happen, I am constantly in fear of the chance I may see the monsters again. I understand NOW that the monsters were not trying to harass me but instead helping me with important messages. I will say that “they” are supposed to instill great fear into people but they do not do it out of cruelty, but do so that you will respect and see them in awe.After praying (I come from a very scientific and logical-minded upbringing so this praying thing is all new to me) I was given “hints” by the former “monsters” (they are now what I think are friends, but I am still horrified at the idea of seeing one again!) to look around every day for more clues. A clue may present itself in a playlist on a station that you just tuned to (song titles) or in other coincidences. I prayed..."Well if you can tell me these things in this way, why not show Mankind the clues in more obvious ways!" “They” said that they do, but we don’t believe it, and also it has to be this way, because we are given FREE WILL and that “they” already HAVE robots that do and think what they want! “They” are angry and sad that we human beings on Earth don’t appreciate “it” and always take credit for “their” things and that “it” is a special gift that we shouldn’t take for granted.I feel I have said “too much” and these “monsters” tell me hints to help me with minor and major things. Many researchers of the paranormal (including myself) believe that some manifestations and poltergeist phenomena (objects flying through the air, doors slamming, etc.) can be products of the human mind (tulpas or thoughtform manifestation). To test that idea, a fascinating experiment was conducted in the early 1970s by the Toronto Society for Psychical Research (TSPR) to see if they could create a ghost. The idea was to assemble a group of people who would make up a completely fictional character and then, through séances, see if they could contact him, receive messages and other physical phenomena - perhaps even an apparition.Dr. A.R.G. Owen led a group of eight people from the Toronto Society for Psychical Research. None of these people were known to have any particular abilities in ESP, psychic, channeling, or other physical or mental specialties. They proceeded to create a person on paper, giving the person the name Philip Aylesford. The group created Philip’s entire life story: He lived in 17th-century England, was married, had a love affair, and ultimately died by his own hand in 1654. Someone from the group even traveled to England to photograph the area where it was said Philip had lived. Another group member sketched a drawing of Mr. Aylesford. The experiment began with the entire group meeting frequently to discuss the life and times of Philip as they would any interesting real person. Much time was spent in deep concentration, meditation, and séances as a group about Philip.After a year of continued experimentation, Philip began to make "his" presence known. Beginning with simple taps and raps they quickly become yes/no answers. He even gave factual answers to known historical events of his time. Soon after Philip manifested physical abilities. Though toward the end of 1977, they felt they were close to reaching that goal, interest in the experiment waned and activities were discontinued. - The Philip ExperimentInspired by these experiments a group from Australia conducted The Skippy Experiment in which they created the persona of Skippy Cartman, a 14-year-old Australian girl.Because of the results of these experiments, some would conclude that this proves that ghosts don't exist and that such things are in our minds only. Others may say that our unconscious could be responsible for this kind of phenomenon some of the time. Regardless there is no way to prove that ghosts don't exist. Philip was completely fictional...the spirit world was never contacted. This was simply a psychokinetic anomaly manufactured by the collective human consciousness. The only certain conclusion is that there is much to our existence and beyond that is still unexplained.On an interesting side note, after these experiments were started, the 'religion' of Spiritualism increased dramatically in popularity, especially in the United States, Canada, England, and Wales. Spiritualists believe in communicating with the spirits of discarnate humans. They believe that spirit mediums are humans gifted to do this, often through seances, and that anyone may become a medium through study and practice. They believe that spirits are capable of growth and perfection, progressing through higher spheres or planes. The afterlife is not a static place, but one in which spirits evolve. The two beliefs - that contact with spirits is possible, and that spirits may lie on a higher plane - lead to a third belief, that spirits can provide knowledge about moral and ethical issues, as well as about God and the afterlife.
