We recently had the opportunity to attend a unique training event put on by a new start-up in the training space. It’s called The Solution‚ and it comes to us from BRVO Tactical – pronounced “Bravo Tactical.” The founder is an active-duty Special Forces Weapons Sergeant‚ a job that the Army codes in its database as “18B” or “18 Bravo” hence the name. He’s passionate about making Americans better prepared to deal with worst-case scenarios‚ saying: “I’ve spent my whole career in Special Forces going overseas and training foreign militaries so they can be better. I want to do the same for our own men and women here at home.” We believe that’s an admirable goal. Photos by Patrick McCarthy About “The Solution” from BRVO Tactical First‚ let’s talk about what The Solution is not. It is not a carbine/pistol training course. In fact‚ we hesitate to call it a course at all. If you are looking to learn foundational weapons-handling skills like reloads‚ ready positions‚ safety manipulation‚ or fundamental marksmanship‚ begin your training path elsewhere before showing up to The Solution. What this event will do is pressure-test your abilities as a shooter. Every problem you face will be complex‚ multi-faceted‚ and presented under physical and cognitive stress. In the first thirty minutes of the day‚ we were required to perform reloads‚ carbine-to-pistol transition drills‚ shoot on the move‚ transition on the move‚ and demonstrate the fundamentals of moving through a structure with a partner. That first thirty minutes was the only time we spent on a line‚ shooting as a class. The remainder of our five-hour training day was a series of supervised drills‚ increasing in complexity‚ with an emphasis on working in two-person teams. This is not a Close Quarters Battle class‚ but the basics of traversing T-intersections and clearing corners were demonstrated by the instructor and rehearsed by each student team‚ including live-fire target engagement. Above: The instructor demonstrated how to work around cover from both sides‚ kneeling or standing. Loading body weight onto the outside leg improves stability while keeping exposure to a minimum. It Takes Two to Tango One of the skills most heavily focused on was how to react when your partner experiences a weapon malfunction or reload in the middle of a fight. Being able to protect your partner through body positioning and cover fire‚ then communicate effectively to get both of you back into the fight‚ is something the military trains rigorously. But most prepared citizens get little to no opportunity to develop this skill‚ even though we live‚ travel‚ and socialize in pairs and small groups. Above: When one student experienced a malfunction or needed to reload‚ he shouted to his partner and dropped to one knee. The partner immediately stepped forward to engage targets until the problem was solved. Each pair of students repeated this leapfrogging maneuver several times along a linear path flanked by paper targets. Each drill was set up by the instructor‚ explained to the whole class‚ then run by one team at a time. Because of this format‚ every student got a significant amount of individual attention. Instead of simply standing on the sideline watching each team perform‚ the instructor moved with each and every team‚ remaining within arm’s length of the shooters for the duration of their run. Not only did this maintain a high level of safety during the most complex drills‚ but it also let the instructor observe every student directly and provide tailored personal feedback. Again‚ viewed as an assessment or proofing opportunity‚ The Solution’s fast pace and unique format will quickly identify gaps or weaknesses in your capabilities. Above: Pairs of students ran between points of cover and took turns firing at steel targets in the distance. Accurate hits were the top priority‚ but speed was also essential. The final exercise of the day was a timed stress shoot that involved almost every individual shooting skill: movement‚ multiple targets‚ varied-distance targets‚ positional shooting‚ weapon transitions‚ and ammo management. There was also a physical fitness component involving several functional tasks — for example‚ weighted sleds to pull‚ a tractor tire to roll‚ and large sandbags to carry — scattered throughout the shooting stations. The weight loads were not high‚ and you do not have to be an athlete to get through it. But it was more than enough to get our heart rate up‚ further complicating an already difficult set of tasks. Each team was timed‚ with harsh penalties for missed shots‚ and a handful of prizes for the winning team. For a training brand that’s been in existence less than a year at time of writing‚ BRVO Tactical has come out the gate with an intensive training experience we’ve not seen anywhere else. For decades we were warned that someday our politicians would push things too far.  We were warned that someday our national debt would spiral out of control‚ servicing that debt would become extremely oppressive due to soaring interest rates‚ existing bonds would crash thanks to the shift in interest rates‚ and foreign sources would start stepping back from buying any new debt that we would be issuing.  Unfortunately‚ that time has arrived.  The government debt crisis that we have been warned about is here‚ and it is going to be incredibly painful. At this moment‚ our national debt is sitting at $33‚836‚693‚993‚860.35. It is probably going to hit 34 trillion dollars by the end of the year. To put this into perspective‚ when Barack Obama first entered the White House we were about 10 trillion dollars in debt. We are literally committing national suicide‚ but for a long time most Americans didn’t really care because we were not experiencing any serious consequences. But now the party is ending. Thanks to rapidly rising interest rates‚ U.S. Treasury bonds “are in a bear market worse than the dot-com bust and almost as bad as 2008”… Elementary economic forces — too much supply and not enough demand — have collided to create the worst stretch for U.S. government bonds since the Civil War. The government keeps borrowing to cover its budget deficits‚ while once-reliable buyers of that debt‚ both at home and abroad‚ have pulled back. The result: Investors are demanding the steepest yields since 2007. Auctions of fresh bonds that were once routine are now going terribly. And bond portfolios are getting absolutely hammered. The longest-dated Treasury bonds are in a bear market worse than the dot-com bust and almost as bad as 2008. A bond crash normally precedes a stock market crash. That is exactly what happened in 2008‚ and it appears that the same pattern is being reproduced now. So if you have a lot of money in the stock market‚ you may want to brace yourself for what is ahead. In the past‚ we could always rely on China‚ Japan and other foreign buyers to keep the party going‚ but now they are not very interested in our bonds… China and Japan‚ once reliable buyers of Treasury bonds‚ have been selling them to prop up their weakening currencies. A decade ago they held more than 22% of U.S. government bonds; today it’s 7%. The Ukraine war has dampened demand among Eastern European buyers‚ said Steve Ricchiuto‚ the chief U.S. economist at Mizuho. Increasing U.S. oil production means fewer petrodollars in the Middle East to be reinvested through the Treasury market. U.S. banks‚ too‚ are stepping back. I certainly can’t blame our banks for “stepping back” from buying more bonds. Thanks to the dramatic shift in interest rates that we have witnessed‚ they are sitting on hundreds of billions of dollars in unrealized losses. So who is going to buy our debt in 2024 and beyond? That is a very good question. And servicing the debt that we have already accumulated is becoming a major problem. During the last year‚ the federal government “had to spend one-fifth of all the money it collected just on debt interest”… The U.S. federal government has borrowed so much money that‚ over the past year‚ it has had to spend one-fifth of all the money it collected just on debt interest—which came to almost $880 billion. Americans paid some $450 billion less in income taxes for the year‚ trapping the government in the pincers of a fiscal crunch. The country teeters on the brink of a debt spiral that could devolve into a fiscal crisis or hyperinflation‚ several economists told The Epoch Times. “The problem is serious because‚ any way you cut it‚ taxpayers are paying interest on the mountain of debt that has been accumulated‚” said Steve Hanke‚ a professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins University. “In short‚ they are paying something for nothing.” In 2024‚ the U.S. government will spend well over a trillion dollars just in interest on the national debt. That wasn’t supposed to happen until 2030. A day of reckoning has arrived‚ and it is just a matter of time before the entire system comes crashing down like a house of cards. This isn’t going to be just another “financial crisis”.  As James Rickards has aptly noted‚ what we will soon experience will be “qualitatively different” from anything that we have ever experienced before… The next financial crisis will not be merely a bigger version of the 1998 and 2008 crises‚ it will be qualitatively different. It will encompass multiple asset classes on a global scale. It will exhibit inflation not seen since the 1970s‚ insolvency not seen since the 1930s and exchange shutdowns not seen since 1914. State power will be summoned to contain panic. What Rickards is describing is a full-blown economic collapse. So what will our society look like once such a scenario unfolds? Already‚ economic conditions have deteriorated so dramatically that demand at local food banks has risen to “unprecedented” levels in some cities… The demand for local food banks is on the rise as soaring prices impact average Americans under President Joe Biden. The increasing demand for food banks demonstrates how soaring inflation driven by “Bidenomics” negatively impacts lower income families. “We are seeing unprecedented demand‚” Jackie DeCarlo‚ chief executive of Manna Food Center‚ told the Washington Post on Monday. If things are this bad now‚ what will we be facing a year or two from now? At this point‚ there is no escape. All our politicians can do is to keep the party going for as long as they possibly can. They knew that they were destroying our financial future‚ and they also knew that they couldn’t keep borrowing and spending insane amounts of money forever. Of course nobody can say that we weren’t warned. People like me have been relentlessly warning about our financial condition for years‚ and now I am warning about what is coming in the aftermath of the approaching financial meltdown. Our leaders tried to outrun the basic laws of economics for a long time‚ and for a while they were flying high. But now reality has caught up with them‚ and we are all going to pay a very bitter price for their crimes. The surface exploration of Saturn’s largest moon‚ Titan‚ just got one step closer to reality as NASA’s much-anticipated Dragonfly mission recently received approval from the powers that be to advance to Phase C‚ which is designated as Final Design and Fabrication‚ according to NASA’s Systems Engineering Handbook. This comes after the Dragonfly team successfully completed all the requirements for Phase B in March 2023‚ also known as the Preliminary Design Review or Preliminary Design and Technology Completion in the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook. “The Dragonfly team has successfully overcome a number of technical and programmatic challenges in this daring endeavor to gather new science on Titan‚” said Dr. Nicola Fox‚ who is the associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate at NASA headquarters in Washington DC. “I am proud of this team and their ability to keep all aspects of the mission moving toward confirmation.” Like all space missions‚ Dragonfly has undergone an extensive process after submitting its mission proposal in 2018 and officially being selected in June 2019 as part of NASA’s New Frontiers program‚ and hopefully launching just a few years from now. This process includes Concept Studies (Pre-Phase A)‚ Concept and Technology Development (Phase A)‚ Preliminary Design and Technology Completion (Phase B)‚ Final Design and Fabrication (Phase C)‚ System Assembly‚ Integration &; Test‚ Launch &; Checkout (Phase D)‚ Operations and Sustainment (Phase E)‚ and Closeout (Phase F). With Phase C now underway‚ the Dragonfly team is working on a launch readiness date of July 2028‚ which NASA announced today it pushed back from June 2027 at its Outer Planet Assessment Group meeting due to uncertainty in the mission’s budget going forward. While NASA had previously requested a reduction of 18 percent in funding for Dragonfly for fiscal year 2024 compared to fiscal year 2023‚ the agency stated at the time they had still planned to keep the launch readiness date of June 2027‚ and was already pushed back from 2026‚ which was the original launch readiness date when the mission was approved in 2019. Assuming no additional launch delays will occur‚ Dragonfly will embark on a six-year journey to Titan with an anticipated landing date of sometime in 2034 with a targeted landing site of the “Shangri-La” dune fields located just south of Titan’s equator. These dune fields mirror the dune fields in Namibia in southern Africa and is also near where the European Space Agency’s Huygens probe landed on Titan in January 2005‚ as it landed in the western region of Shangri-La. After exploring Shangri-La through a series of flights spanning 8 kilometers (5 miles) each‚ Dragonfly is planned to travel to Selk crater where it is expected to examine the crater to confirm previous evidence of past liquid water and potentially complex organics‚ or the building blocks of life. The Dragonfly team anticipates the spacecraft will have approximately 3.3 years of science operations during its time on Saturn’s largest moon and explore between 25 to 30 unique sites. This prestigious honor goes to NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter‚ which landed on Mars in February 2021 with NASA’s Perseverance rover and performed the first powered flight on another world in April of that same year.
