Why Is There So much Hype and Hysteria About This Comet?

Vanderbilt Baseball Players Sound Off On Their Favorite Country Music Walkup Songs Including Johnny Cash, Morgan Wallen, Cody Johnson & More

Some solid picks. Often considered the punching bag of the SEC when it comes to football, Vanderbilt has been on a hot streak over the past two years. After decades and decades of disappointment on the football field, last year, coach Clark Lea and quarterback Diego Pavia, along with the addition of Jerry Kill as an advisor and analyst, shocked many fans of the SEC and went 7-6, along with two stunning upsets against then-top-ranked Alabama and Auburn to close the season. Flash forward to this year, and Vanderbilt has turned itself into a real threat to the SEC. The Commodores came out of the gate with wins on the road at Virginia Tech and South Carolina, along with dominant performances against Georgia State and Utah State, to start the season 5-0 before falling at Alabama. But last week, with LSU visiting Nashville, the ‘Dores proved that they’re the real deal by knocking off the top-20 Tigers and cementing themselves as legitimate contenders in a wide-open SEC. With a ton of momentum heading into the past weekend, Vanderbilt was selected to host ESPN’s College Gameday this week for just the second time ever, and they did not disappoint. Beyond booking Kenny Chesney and Dierks Bentley to deliver a killer set during the pregame show, the Commodores took care of business on the football field. In a defensive battle, Vandy took down 19th-ranked Missouri en route to a 17-10 victory. Even before the game and eventual win, the vibes were at an all-time high on Vanderbilt’s campus. So much so, in fact, that members of the university’s highly-touted baseball program were there to show support for their fellow athletes. While the baseball team was in attendance, ESPN’s Katie Feeney, who recently interviewed Luke Combs when he drafted his hilarious all-country music football team, met with some players to ask them their favorite country walk-up songs for the season — a pretty fitting question considering they’re playing Music City. As we know, country music (along with Latin music) has dominated the MLB’s list of walk-up songs for the past few years. Famously, Chris Stapleton’s “White Horse” topped the list of most-used songs in the MLB this year, along with the likes of Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country” and Luke Combs’ “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma” all placing in the Top 5. And for Vandy, it seems like country music is pretty popular among their players as well. As expected, plenty of players showed love for Morgan Wallen with his Lil Durk collaboration, “Broadway Girls,” his ERNEST-backed #1 hit, “Cowgirls,” and, of course, his ode to the 1998 Atlanta Braves, “’98 Braves,” all being mentioned. Other shoutouts included Cody Johnson’s “Welcome to the Show,” (a fantastic pick I might add), Brooks & Dunn’s “Brand New Man,” (the Luke Combs version specifically), Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” Zach Top’s “Sounds Like the Radio” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Ignoring the Shaboozey pick, the track outfielder Tommy Goodin picked and described as “kinda fire,” you gotta love to see the Vandy boys picking the likes of Top, Johnson and Brooks & Dunn for their walk-ups. Of course, I would have loved to see the ever-popular “Loud and Heavy” from Cody Jinks and even some Eric Church or Stapleton in the mix, but it’s not a bad showing from the team overall. Watch here: @katiefeeneyy What would your walk-up song be? @vandyboys @College GameDay @ESPN #vandyboys #vanderbilt #country #baseball #collegegameday ♬ original sound – Katie Feeney “Welcome To The Show” “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” “’98 Braves” The post Vanderbilt Baseball Players Sound Off On Their Favorite Country Music Walkup Songs Including Johnny Cash, Morgan Wallen, Cody Johnson & More first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Kenny Chesney Says He Leaves His Ego On Stage When He’s Done Performing: “I Don’t Want That Person In My Life Every Day”

Kenny Chesney Says He Leaves His Ego On Stage When He’s Done Performing: “I Don’t Want That Person In My Life Every Day”

The Kenny Chesney you see up on stage is not the one that you’d get in his regular, everyday life. The country music superstar and gifted island-style-hit-maker is known for many different things. Whether it be for his countless No. 1 hits (like “Summertime” and “When The Sun Goes Down”), or being the leader of “No Shoes Nation,” the Knoxville native wears many different hats. And though he’s a household name now, it wasn’t always that way. It took a lot of work for Kenny Chesney to get to the stardom he has today, and he talked a lot about that – and how he handles all that comes with it – in his recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning. For the longest time, Chesney said there was a lot of push and pull with injecting his own self into his music. The country music star describes the frustration he felt in his early days by saying that people knew his songs, but somewhere weren’t familiar with him. It was almost as if the songs were getting the recognition, and Kenny Chesney was getting pushed to the wayside… even though he was the one singing them: “You know what’s crazy? I had an 18-song Greatest Hits album, and nobody knew who I was. They knew the songs, but I wasn’t comfortable in my skin yet. I didn’t know who I was supposed to be as an artist yet. I would go do shows and they would go, ‘Oh yeah, that’s the guy that sings that song.’ And then, ‘That’s the guy that sings that song.’ When I started being my true, authentic self, that’s when everything changed.” Soon enough, Kenny Chesney figured out who he needed to be as an artist to truly connect with his fanbase, and as they say, the rest is history. That being said, there’s a little bit (or a lotta bit) of separation between the Kenny Chesney fans see up on stage and the Kenny Chesney that lives out his life off-stage. CBS described his actual personality as “more complicated, more thoughtful and even a little shy,” which is hard to imagine coming from the guy who has made a living off of beach and relaxation focused music. The “Summertime” singer explained to CBS Sunday Morning that his stage persona somewhat happens as a flip of a switch. Chesney knows that the person he is performing serves an incredibly important purpose, connects with fans, and has helped him build his entire career. He also knows that it’s very valuable to leave that version of him up on stage when he bows and returns to his normal life: “It takes a certain amount of ego to be up there on stage and to do what I do, right? But I try really hard to leave that person up there. I can’t live that person every day. And I don’t want that person in my life every day, but I’m really glad to meet him when I go back up there.” Pretty cool idea, right? It’s almost as if Kenny Chesney is playing a role. He’s an actor up on stage as much as he is a country music superstar. And while that separation is critical in his life, there are some “normal Kenny Chesney” parts that overlap. He does, in fact, love to spend time on the beach and out on the water. But that’s off-stage Kenny Chesney enjoying that time… not the on-stage presence fans have grown accustomed to seeing. You can hear him talk more about that in the interview below: Kenny Chesney on CBS Sunday Morning The post Kenny Chesney Says He Leaves His Ego On Stage When He’s Done Performing: “I Don’t Want That Person In My Life Every Day” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
