Bodycam Footage Shows Morgan Wallen Being Concerned About “Custody Battle” Following Arrest For Chair Throwing Incident: “That’s All I Care About In The World”
More footage from the night of Morgan Wallen’s arrest.
By now we all know what happened with infamous chair throwing incident that occurred at Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s, last year. The country music superstar was arrested and charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct after throwing a chair off the roof of the building, and later pled guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment in Davidson County court in December of last year.
Morgan was ultimately sentenced to two years of probation and seven days in jail, to be served at a DUI education center.
Luckily nobody was injured in the incident, and there’s no doubt Morgan wants to put the entire thing behind him. But unfortunately, bodycam video from the arrest was released at the beginning of this month, and it showed footage of Morgan talking to the police before the arrest, before being put into the car and driven to the police station.
In the video, obtained by the AP from the Metro Nashville Police Department, both Morgan and his bodyguard can be heard denying that he threw the chair from the roof:
“I ain’t done nothing wrong.”
He also could be heard on the video calling his buddy, and the owner of the bar, Eric Church to let him know what was going on:
“Hey, these mother*****s are trying to take me, they’re trying to take me to jail outside of your f***** bar.”
Church can’t be heard on the recording, but I imagine his next question was something like, “Who?” because Morgan then replied:
“The cops. I’m not sure… They’re trying to. They won’t let me leave.”
But unfortunately for Morgan, officers were able to determine after watching the security camera footage that he was in fact the suspect behind the flying chair, and the country superstar was cuffed and placed in the back of the cruiser.
And more police bodycam footage has been released over the last several days, which shows more of Morgan’s ride in the back of the cop car, where he’s heard telling the officer that people are videoing him and watching him from inside the car before they pulled down the street off of the busy Broadway section of downtown Nashville.
In the video below, the police retrieve Morgan’s wallet and ID from his security guard, and once they get in the car to go to booking, Morgan tells the officer:
“Let’s go, man. Just get us out of here. They’re all ******* videoing me, man. What do you want me to do?”
The officer tells him to “lean over” or “just look away” before they start driving.
Then, during the drive, you hear Morgan asking if this arrest will affect his custody battle, as he shares a young son with his ex KT Smith. He shares that his son is “with his mama” or he wouldn’t be down on Broadway.
You can hear the concern in his voice as he explains “that’s all I care about in the world”:
“I got a little boy. Is this gonna affect my custody battle? I hope not… that’s all I care about in the world… let’s try to make that not matter. Because that’s my boy. He’s with his mama right now, or I wouldn’t be here.
And I appreciate you respecting me, man. This s*** is hurting my wrists, though.”
It’s unclear exactly what their custody arrangements are, but KT, who Morgan was engaged to at one point, was on Bunnie XO’s podcast not long ago, talked about what a great dad Morgan is and how much she respects him as a co-parent.
That was nearly a year after all of this happened, so it doesn’t seem like this caused too many problems with that, though again, who knows.
The officer goes onto explain that they’re four blocks away from booking, and Morgan responds with a pretty funny line:
“Yeah, I’ve been there before.”
Morgan was arrested back in 2020 for public intoxication and disorderly conduct after an incident at Kid Rock’s bar in Nashville.
In this video, you also see the part where Morgan hears his song with Thomas Rhett on the radio and jokes that he would never be getting arrested, and as Morgan and Officer Lopez, as Morgan refers to him in this video, chat in the car, Morgan also asks officer Lopez his favorite country singer of all-time, and the officer admits that Morgan is one of them, saying:
“You’re honestly one of them. Zach Bryan, and then Josh Turner. I’ve been listening to a lot of Josh Turner her lately.”
Morgan says he knows with Bryan is, but hasn’t ever really listened to his music, though he admits that he loves Josh Turner and has listened to him since he was a kid.
For what is most people’s worst nightmare, it seems like Morgan was most definitely not having the worst night of his life, but like he says, he had been there before, and I would venture to bet that he had been drinking and the alcohol was definitely helping keep the reality of the situation a little lighter.
