NO ONE Entered Epstein’s Cell? FBI Says So
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino intends to release surveillance footage showing Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in federal custody, but many Americans remain skeptical despite the bureau’s definitive conclusion. Epstein is the only person seen on surveillance video entering or exiting his cell during the relevant time period. A 2023 DOJ report found “numerous serious failures” by prison staff, including falsified records and negligence.
FBI Announces Plans to Release Surveillance Footage
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has announced plans to release video footage that officials say will prove disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in federal custody. The move comes amid persistent conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s 2019 death at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. According to Bongino, the video evidence clearly shows Epstein was alone in his cell during the relevant timeframe, with no other individuals entering or exiting the area where he was held.
“There’s video clear as day,” Bongino said in an interview on Fox & Friends. “He’s the only
person in there and the only person coming out. You can see it.”

Evidence Supports Suicide Conclusion
The FBI has been emphatic that all available evidence points to suicide. Bongino stressed there is nothing in the bureau’s files suggesting Epstein’s death occurred in any other manner. The video to be released reportedly shows Epstein making a phone call and guards conducting periodic checks over a 12-hour period. While Bongino acknowledged the video quality is “not the greatest in the world,” he maintained it provides sufficient evidence to confirm Epstein was alone when he died.
“The evidence we have in our files clearly indicates that it was, in fact, a suicide. We do have video. It’s not the greatest video in the world. I don’t want to set expectations on fire. However, the video does show that in that specific block, he goes in and makes a phone call; you’ll see 12 hours of guards going in to basically check on him and come back. You’ll see nobody really comes out of that bay in that area other than him. There’s no one in there.” – Dan Bongino
The bureau plans to release both the original footage and an enhanced version to avoid accusations of tampering. Bongino has also directly challenged conspiracy theorists, stating, “I say to people, if you have a tip, let us know. But there’s no DNA, there’s no audio, there are no fingerprints, there are no suspects, there are no accomplices, and there are no tips. There is nothing. If you have it, I’m happy to see it.”

Prison Failures Contributed to Suicide Opportunity
A 2023 Department of Justice Inspector General report identified significant institutional failures that enabled Epstein’s suicide. The investigation found that MCC New York staff failed to conduct required rounds and counts, falsified records claiming these checks had been performed, and left Epstein unmonitored in his cell with excessive bed linens from 10:40 p.m. on August 9 until his death was discovered the next morning. Additionally, staff failed to ensure Epstein had a cellmate after a previous suicide watch incident.
The report also highlighted long-standing operational challenges at the facility, including staffing shortages and management failures. Two MCC New York employees were charged with falsifying records, but these charges were dismissed after the employees complied with deferred prosecution agreements. The facility’s security camera system was not fully functional, resulting in limited recorded video evidence – a factor that has fueled public skepticism about the official account of Epstein’s death.
Persistent Public Skepticism
Despite multiple investigations all reaching the same conclusion, conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death continue to circulate widely. The theories are fueled in part by Epstein’s connections to powerful figures, the nature of his crimes, and the significant prison security failures documented in the DOJ report. The FBI’s decision to release the surveillance footage represents an effort to address public skepticism with direct evidence, though it remains to be seen whether this will be sufficient to convince those who remain doubtful of the official account.
The DOJ Inspector General made eight recommendations to improve Bureau of Prisons management following the investigation, all of which the BOP agreed to implement. These reforms aim to address the systemic failures that contributed to the circumstances enabling Epstein’s suicide while in federal custody.
