A New Haven‚ Connecticut city official was disciplined with “cultural sensitivity training” after chanting ethnic cleansing slogans with a megaphone‚ and encouraging others to do the same‚ outside a local Jewish family’s home. Thabisa Rich‚ New Haven’s Community Outreach Coordinator for the Department of Arts‚ Cultural‚ and Tourism‚ caused a scene outside the home of a local rabbi last month because of a pro-Israel yard sign.  according to a video obtained by The Daily Wire. Her social media also had several anti-Semitic posts since Israel was attacked on October 7 by terrorists‚ including stating she does not “condemn Hamas” for its murder of more than 1‚000 Israelis‚ and others that invoked tropes about Jewish money and power. The city says‚ however‚ that while Rich did violate the city’s code of conduct‚ she will keep her job. “A formal letter of reprimand was provided to Thabisa Rich … for violations of the City’s Code of Conduct regarding her actions on February 11th and several statements posted on social media‚” the office of New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said in a statement‚ according to the Hartford Courant. “The letter of reprimand was also accompanied by a coaching statement and corrective action requirements‚ including the need to attend cultural sensitivity training.” VIDEO: A New Haven‚ Connecticut city official chanted ethnic cleansing slogans with a megaphone outside a Jewish family’s home‚ according to video of the incident obtained by reporter @KassyDillon. In a “Counseling Discussion Plan” accompanying the letter of reprimand‚ the City alleges Rich’s actions have “impaired her ability to perform” in her job and that she has “done significant damage to her professional reputation and ability to work with a wide spectrum of individuals and groups in the city.” Thabisa Rich was hired last year by New Haven and given the responsibility of managing $1.2 million in federal funding for the city under the America Rescue Plan Act‚ according to the New Haven Register. At the time‚ Director of Cultural Affairs Adriane Jefferson said Thabisa Rich was hired because they were “looking for someone who can be a bridge builder‚” the local news outlet reported. In videos posted of the incident by Rabbi Elchanan Poupko and Rich herself‚ the city official can be heard repeatedly shouting “From the river to the sea‚ Palestine will be free‚” a chant often used by pro-Palestinian radicals that is seen as a call for ethnic cleansing of the Jewish and other non-Arab populations that live in Israel. She was eventually joined by her husband Charlie Rich‚ who‚ wearing a mask‚ defended her actions and pressed the Jewish resident Poupko to denounce Israel. “We were very shaken‚” Poupko said. “It turns out they are both very prominent members of the community who came to harass us because of our ‘stand with Israel sign.’” In a livestream after the incident‚ Rich encouraged others to come back to the street with her. “You tell me when you want to come back and ask for a ceasefire and ask for this people to stop their hate because they think that they are white and privileged and that they think that their religion is superior than the rest‚” she stated. “I need people to show up to this very same street. We need to find a time to come back and show up in numbers and say no‚ enough is enough.” The letter thanked Rich for removing the posts from her personal Facebook‚ including one where she accused people of not speaking out about the war because they have Jewish bosses. Thabisa Rich invoked anti-Semitic tropes about Jewish power and said she would not condemn the terrorist group Hamas in now-deleted posts to her Facebook. “Your silence is starting to signify complacency‚” she wrote. “I promise I understand that some of y’all have your pockets lined with bosses who are Jewish.” During the Super Bowl on Sunday‚ Rich said she was “sick of these Jew focused ads [sic].” “We have been witnessing Jewish folks inflicting hate‚” she said in another post the same day. “It’s not made up.” In her response to the reprimand‚ Rich wrote that her social media posts were “taken out of context” and were intended to “shed light on the propaganda and misinformation surrounding the true impact of the conflict on the people of Palestine.” Moving forward‚ Rich is required to refrain from protests with abusive conduct‚ not make statements or social media posts targeting an entire race or religion‚ and state explicitly that her opinions are her own and not the city’s‚ according to the Counseling Discussion Plan. “While city employees can have different and strongly held views on important issues‚ there is an appropriate time‚ place‚ and manner in which to express them – and incidents and statements of this nature will not be tolerated‚” the mayor wrote in the statement. After the incident‚ Rich’s husband was placed on employee administrative leave by his employer‚ The Hopkins School‚ located a few houses away from Poupko’s home. 

A proposed Tennessee bill that would prevent banks from discriminating against people based on their political or religious views advanced in the state House on Tuesday amid national concerns that financial institutions are targeting conservatives.  The Republican-backed bill advanced in the House’s Subcommittee on Banking and Consumer Affairs by a 5-1 vote along partisan lines.  “The trend of freezing bank accounts based on religious or political beliefs is deeply worrying to me‚” Rep. Jason Zachary (R-Knoxville)‚ the bill’s sponsor‚ said. “We will put a stop to this dangerous practice in Tennessee because having to self-police speech for fear of being denied financial services is not representative of our state’s values. Tennessee Republicans will continue protecting the right of citizens to freely express their convictions.” The proposal‚ HB2100‚ would prohibit financial institutions from denying or canceling services to people based on a person’s speech‚ opinions‚ and affiliations‚ as well as a person’s religious beliefs‚ exercises‚ and affiliations. It would create an amendment to Tennessee’s consumer protection laws and would not impact quantitative factors banks already take into account. A previous version of the proposal included insurance companies‚ but the bill was amended to remove those provisions.  Zachary said before the subcommittee that the state attorney general’s office was currently dealing with cases of customers who have had their banking restricted in the state.  “This legislation is extremely important to the well-being of Tennesseans and this puts this under the Consumer Protection Act and ensures that our Tennesseans are not discriminated against‚” he said. “And if the banks aren’t doing this‚ which we’ve heard over and over again‚ ‘we’re not doing this‚’ then they’re not going to have any problem with the bill.” On Tuesday‚ Chris Lee of the National Shooting Sports Foundation and FirstBank CEO Chris Holmes gave additional testimony.  Lee testified in support of the bill‚ pointing to moves by some financial institutions to target the firearm industry. Lee pointed to gun policies rolled out by Citigroup in 2018 that refused to work with partners who sold guns to people under the age of 21 or sold high-capacity magazines and bump stocks. The proposal comes as congressional lawmakers look into whether federal law enforcement pressured financial institutions to help them snoop on the financial transactions of supporters of former President Donald Trump and people who had visited outdoor stores like Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops. A prominent national pro-life group says it is clearing up the Biden administration’s “pro-abortion myths” ahead of the president’s State of the Union address this week. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America said Wednesday that the Biden administration uses “fearmongering tactics” to push an agenda of “painful‚ late-term abortions nationwide.” The group is also releasing a new ad accusing the Biden administration of lying about state abortion bans endangering women’s health. “Joe Biden is lying. State laws protecting unborn children allow doctors to act during a medical emergency‚” the ad says. “While Biden briefly talks about abortion in his address‚ there will be thousands of pregnancy resource centers caring for women‚ providing health care‚ education‚ housing‚ and job assistance.” President Biden will deliver his State of the Union address on Thursday. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision reversing Roe vs. Wade‚ doctors were afraid of the new state abortion bans‚ and mainstream medical organizations‚ which tend to favor abortion‚ “refused to provide guidance‚” according to Dr. Ingrid Skop‚ M.D.‚ the director of medical affairs at the Charlotte Lozier Institute‚ the research arm of SBA Pro-Life America. “It’s important to realize that even prior to Dobbs 90% or more of obstetricians did not do elective abortion‚” Skop told reporters during a call Wednesday. “Most of the hospitals that we practice in are Catholic‚ Methodist‚ Baptist. Those hospitals do not do elective abortions‚ and yet doctors always knew if there was a life-threatening emergency how they could intervene‚” Skop said. Meanwhile‚ abortion advocates have “backed the president into a corner‚” forcing him to share the “egregious and extreme” policy position of second and third-trimester abortions‚ Stephen Billy‚ vice president of state affairs at SBA Pro-Life America said during Wednesday’s call. “But they know the American people don’t support that extreme policy position and so they’re having to use tragedies to advance their political agenda‚” Billy said. First Lady Jill Biden plans to bring Kate Cox‚ a woman who left Texas to get an abortion‚ as her guest to the State of the Union. Cox‚ 31‚ made headlines in December when she was denied an abortion in Texas for her unborn baby with a fetal anomaly and left to obtain the abortion out of state. Cox was more than 20 weeks pregnant with a baby who had a condition called trisomy 18‚ which involves having an extra chromosome 18 and can cause abnormalities like heart defects. Cox’s legal team had argued that continuing the pregnancy threatened Cox’s future fertility. However‚ in December the Texas Supreme Court decided against Cox‚ ruling that she was not entitled to a medical exception abortion under the state’s abortion ban. Texas law allows for abortions only when a pregnancy seriously threatens the life of the woman or carries “a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function.” About 95% of trisomy 18 pregnancies result in a miscarriage. However‚ some babies do survive past birth and can live into their toddler years‚ teen years‚ or even longer. A woman believed to be one of the oldest people with the condition lived to 40. The Biden administration and his reelection campaign have placed abortion front and center as the election cycle heats up. In January‚ the Biden campaign debuted a new ad titled “Forced‚” which features another Texas woman who obtained an abortion out of state. Dr. Austin Dennard‚ a Dallas OBGYN and mother of three‚ left Texas to obtain an abortion for her unborn baby with anencephaly‚ a condition where a baby is born without parts of the brain and skull. Dennard is one of several women suing Texas to clarify the “medical emergency” exception to the state’s abortion ban. In her court testimony‚ Dennard acknowledged that her pregnancy had not made her “critically ill.” “I was not hemorrhaging‚ I was not septic. I was pregnant with a lethal anomaly‚ and I did not believe that I would be able to receive an abortion in my state at that time for the sole purpose of my lethal anomaly‚” Dennard said.
