The Dark Secret You Didn’t Know About Darth Vader’s Death

The Dark Secret You Didn’t Know About Darth Vader’s Death

In the climactic chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy‚ 1983’s Return of the Jedi‚ there is a touching scene between Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and a dying Darth Vader aboard the Death Star on one of its hangar bays. During this heartfelt conversation‚ following Luke successfully redeeming Vader — revealed to be his father in the previous chapter‚ The Empire Strikes Back — by pulling him back from the dark side of the Force‚ Vader asks that his helmet be removed so that he can look upon his son for the first time without it. A moment later‚ Darth Vader’s death plays out and Luke is able to drag his lifeless body on board the nearby ship. Added to the power of Darth Vader’s death‚ and suggesting the chaos that will arise in the universe following the Emperor’s death‚ is the sound of laser fire‚ which‚ according to Star Wars  fan theory‚ is likely from Stormtroopers and Imperial Officers killing each other in an effort to get on board one of the few remaining escape shuttlecrafts. It’s not dissimilar to the end of 1997’s Titanic‚ where passengers are desperately trying to get on lifeboats before it’s too late. What Would Have Happened if he Lived? The final moment between Darth Vader and his son‚ Luke Skywalker‚ in 1983’s Return of the Jedi (©20th Century Fox/courtesy MovieStillsDB.com) Thanks to Luke’s influence‚ Darth Vader broke free of Emperor Palpatine’s hold on him and‚ as noted‚ had that moment of redemption. At the same time‚ he essentially needed to die as a result of the atrocities he committed as Anakin Skywalker (see the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy‚ especially 2005’s Revenge of the Sith‚ to get an idea of what those atrocities were). But what if instead of Darth Vader’s death‚ he actually had the chance to live? RELATED: Princess Leia Shared A Common Weakness With Darth Vader The Emperor was presumably dead (though the 2019 film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‚ would beg to differ)‚ with Luke having refused to give in to the dark side of the Force. Those elements could have led Vader to find the strength to rejoin the light side of the Force and seek redemption. If so‚ this could have moved things on to a period of reconciliation for his past actions and provide the opportunity for him to try and make amends. Everett If still redeemed by Luke‚ it’s likely he would have nonetheless faced prosecution by the Rebel Alliance and the rising New Republic‚ which could have attempted to imprison or exile him to a distant location where he could do no further harm. Of course‚ given his advanced Jedi/Sith abilities‚ what could they really hope to possibly do if he disagreed with their decision? STAR WARS‚ (aka STAR WARS: EPISODE IV – A NEW HOPE)‚ Carrie Fisher‚ Darth Vader‚ 1977 Perhaps he could atone for the past by helping Luke and the new Jedi Order rebuild the galaxy and restore piece‚ Anakin becoming a mentor to future Jedi or training new Force-sensitive beings. Conversely‚ he would likely have continued to struggle over his past‚ leading to ongoing conflicts within himself‚ suggesting that there was always the possibility of a “relapse” of sorts and future betrayal‚ leading him to creating a new faction of the Sith and ultimately taking the Emperor’s place. His daughter‚ and Luke’s sister‚ Leia (Carrie Fisher)‚ likely would have been reluctant to stand in alliance with her biological father for fear of its impact on her political aspirations. However‚ her abilities in the Force may have helped her determine whether or not he was truly redeemed and‚ if he was‚ there was the possibility he could have met his grandson of the sequel trilogy‚ Ben Solo (Adam Driver). Conjecture‚ of course‚ is always fun‚ but as it is‚ the redemption and death of Darth Vader stands as one of moviedom’s great moments. Power In Pink! WashPost Fashionista Robin Givhan Touts Fani Willis 'Fury' in Court

Washington Post senior critic-at-large Robin Givhan provided a rousing defense of Fulton County‚ Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis on Thursday. Although her defense was short on facts‚ it was definitely heavy on fashion‚ most likely due to Givhan's previous stint as the Washington Post's fashion editor. However‚ from the headline of her story‚ "When Fani Willis took the stand‚ her fury was precise and laser-focused‚" you would have thought facts would have been the emphasis instead of fashion. That is‚ until you read the fashion-filled story. Willis sat in the witness chair for hours. Or‚ more precisely‚ she reclined in the chair‚ woman-splaining how men define relationships and how they end them. She did so wearing a fuchsia dress with a single strand of beads around her neck. Her hair was styled in soft‚ shoulder-length curls and her eye makeup was precise and intentional. She was a singular bright spot surrounded by a black-robed judge and lawyers in mostly somber suits. Only Willis and her main inquisitor‚ Merchant‚ who wore a cobalt blue dress under a white blazer‚ stood out in the room’s sobriety. Who wants to tell Givhan that Willis's dress zipper was in the front which means she was probably wearing it backwards? Oh‚ and her very well paid prosecutor‚ Nathan Wade‚ also received the Givhan fashion critique: Wade sat in the witness chair in his gray plaid three piece suit‚ with his French-cuffed shirt‚ gold cuff links and powder blue pocket square. And when not obsessed with fashion‚ Givhan focused in on body posture. The hearing had been taken over by Willis and her outrage. Whether her anger was defensive or righteous‚ it was something to behold. She sat with her body positioned at a slight angle and rested her fingers on her cheek. Sometimes‚ she’d lean forward into the microphone but mostly her posture was one of powerful repose. If there is a female equivalent to man-spreading‚ that tendency of men to sit with their legs akimbo as they take up more than their share of space on a bench or a bleacher‚ Willis’s stance may well be it. She filled the room with her presence. She might be more accustomed to asking the questions in a courtroom than answering them‚ but Willis didn’t have the rigid posture that one so often sees from witnesses who might be fighting off nerves. She sat in the hot seat like it was her throne and she was ready to slice off some heads. Naturally‚ Givhan's fashionable story about Willis came in for a lot of social-media mockery. A few examples:   I can only hope‚ for whatever integrity you may have left‚ you didn't actually watch the hearing before being given this damage control assignment. Because you can't have watched Willis self-immolate on the stand and then write this with a straight face pic.twitter.com/OaTHW3KsMc — Daniel Reid (@danielp_reid) February 16‚ 2024   Her fury may have been focused‚ but her facts were anything but... — I.B. FineX...or not (@IBFine1) February 16‚ 2024   This is a parody‚ right? 😂 — Daryl (@Daryl_Manuel) February 17‚ 2024
