Democratic presidential primary candidate Dean Phillips accuses Gavin Newsom of 'running a shadow campaign'

Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota‚ who last month launched a self-admitted "long shot" bid for the Democratic presidential nomination‚ has claimed that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is "running a shadow campaign." Phillips‚ who made the comment during an appearance on NewsNation‚ said that as president he would "have a bipartisan cabinet."Newsom‚ who recently visited China and Israel‚ is slated to face off against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis later this month during a debate moderated by conservative commentator Sean Hannity. DeSantis is one of the Republican figures currently running in the GOP presidential primary. Newsom has been expressing support for President Joe Biden's re-election bid. Earlier this month‚ NBC News reported that Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania had accused Newsom of running for president without announcing a bid. "There are two additional Democrats running for Pennsylvania‚ excuse me‚ running for president right now‚" Fetterman reportedly said. "One is a congressman from Minnesota‚ the other one is the governor of California‚ but only one has the guts to announce it."Marianne Williamson is also running in the Democratic presidential primary.Biden‚ who is already the oldest president in U.S. history‚ would be 86 by the end of a second term if he is re-elected in 2024."We will not earn peace at home or around the world with elderly leaders occupying positions of power from the West Bank to the West Wing. It's time for change‚ and we're going to bring it. Join the DeanTeam and help us build a bright future‚" Phillips has tweeted. "If President Biden is the Democratic nominee‚ we face an unacceptable risk of Trump being back in the White House‚" Phillips has claimed. "Biden/Harris isn't viable against Trump‚" the congressman has averred. — (@) Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Riley Gaines fires back at Laura Loomer over 'disgusting' personal attacks and 'doxxing'

Journalist Laura Loomer is accused of doxxing women's sports advocate Riley Gaines. The former NCAA swimmer fired back at the journalist who has been a vocal mouthpiece for the Trump campaign. On Friday morning‚ Loomer posted a message on the X social media platform alleging that Gaines was paid by the campaign team for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The post — which has since been deleted — read: "In June 2023‚ Riley announced that she was endorsing DeSantis over Trump. FEC records show that she was paid out on 8/02/2023 for endorsing Ron."Loomer — a diehard fanatic of former President Donald Trump — then went on to verbally attack Gaines for gaining popularity after being one of the few athletes to speak out against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. "Riley‚ you have had a long run‚ pretending to be a victim after you got beat by a man‚" Loomer said in the since-deleted tweet. "But‚ now you have turned your victimhood into deception and financial gain‚ and sadly‚ someone along the way hypnotized you into believing that you are a political expert.""Let me tell you the truth. You aren't‚ and you should stick to swimming‚" Loomer told Gaines on social media. "Riley‚ your 15 minutes of fame are over‚" Loomer continued. "We get it‚ a transgender beat you. Life isn't fair. You're not the only woman to get a rough deal in life."Also in the post to her more than 670‚000 followers‚ Loomer published the address of Gaines with a screenshot of a Federal Election Commission document on the social media network previously known as Twitter. — (@) In response to the personal attack‚ Gaines roared back at the journalist by saying‚ "Your 'investigative skills' must not be as good as you constantly tout. This was posted Oct. 19 by the Boston Globe. Plus‚ it wasn't a secret anyway."The Boston Globe article states that the DeSantis campaign paid Gaines "nearly $12‚000" in early August for "surrogate and coalition work." The outlet noted that there had not been any other payments as of Oct. 19.The 12-time All-American swimmer who won five SEC titles said on social media‚ "I joined DeSantis in South Carolina for an event earlier this year and was compensated for my time. That's how it works."The former University of Kentucky swimmer pointed out‚ "Who's gonna tell her I was also offered a paid spot by Trump's team prior?""Cry harder that you kiss his butt for free‚" she wrote. "And if Trump wins the primary‚ I'll be all in‚ because this country needs fiscal‚ social‚ and foreign policy conservative leadership. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that."Gaines stressed that she is "not in the business of caring whether one person/a base 'likes me' when our country and freedoms are at stake.""Let it be remembered that Laura Loomer said girl's and women's safety‚ privacy‚ and opportunities aren't that important‚" Riley declared. "To her‚ being 'loyal' to a man who barely knows she exists takes precedent."Regarding publishing her address on social media‚ Gaines told Loomer‚ "And as for posting my address (even if it is public record) when it could've easily been blacked out‚ that's low even for someone with as little class as you."Gaines admitted she was not a "political expert‚" but did remind Loomer that she lost both times she ran for office in Florida. — (@) Loomer denied she doxxed Gaines‚ adding that FEC documents are public records. "Posting publicly available FEC documents that are PUBLIC RECORDS and of public interest in a presidential election year is not 'doxxing‚'" Loomer said. Loomer did delete the original tweet with the address. "However‚ I posted a new image with the address blacked out even though it’s already public on the FEC site and has been for months since Riley decided to sell her voice to the Ron DeSantis campaign‚" Loomer wrote. "That is not doxxing. The FEC database exists for the sake of transparency in US elections."Loomer continued to rant on social media and badmouthed Gaines.Loomer called Gaines a "low IQ sell out bimbo" and a "dumb b*tch."Many X users accused Loomer of doxxing Gaines and called on Elon Musk to take action. Former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis: "Trump surrogate Laura Loomer is now calling Riley Gaines a ' bimbo' and doxxing her address. Elon Musk should rightly ban her for doxxing. Will the Trump camp have enough decency to denounce and distance from her? Trump surrogate comes out in favor of men beating women in sports… simply because a woman supports a different political candidate. This is disgusting and completely on brand."News commentator Oli London: "Prominent women’s rights activist @Riley_Gaines_ has been made a target of radical extreme trans activists tonight after influencer Laura Loomer released her address on Twitter. She knows full well thousands of trans activists will see it. She knows full well she is putting Riley at risk. Just because Riley’s details may be on FEC records it does not make it right for someone with such a large platform to share it- knowing the consequences it has on the young woman’s safety. This is morally wrong and dangerous and women like Riley deserve to feel safe and able to speak up for women and girls without the fear of extreme trans activists turning up at their house."Last week‚ Donald Trump Jr. proclaimed that he would "love to see" Loomer as his father's White House press secretary if Donald Trump gets re-elected."She’s a bulldog‚ man‚ I will say that. She gets after it. I’d love to see her as press secretary just to watch D.C. just explode‚" Trump Jr. said. Like Blaze News? Felon with armed robbery convictions still has 2nd Amendment rights and cannot be charged for possessing firearm‚ judge rules

A federal judge in Illinois has ruled that a felon did not lose his Second Amendment right to own a firearm‚ even after he had been convicted of multiple gun-related crimes. The astonishing ruling stems from an alleged robbery in Chicago in September 2021. At the time‚ Glen Price supposedly robbed three men on a CTA train. When police searched Price‚ they reportedly found a stolen credit card‚ cocaine‚ a 9mm handgun‚ and extra ammunition. As Price‚ now 37‚ had already been convicted of felony armed robbery three times in the past‚ federal law prohibited him from owning a gun. So officers charged Price with possessing a firearm as a felon‚ a federal statute with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. On November 2‚ however‚ the federal case against Price was dismissed after U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman‚ a Clinton appointee‚ determined that the statute prohibiting felons from possessing firearms was unconstitutional. That law "imposes a far greater burden on the right to keep and bear arms than the historical categorical exclusions from the people's Second Amendment right‚" Gettleman wrote in the 22-page decision.Gettleman said he based his ruling on the 2022 SCOTUS case New York State Rifle &; Pistol Association‚ Inc. v. Bruen. In that 6-3 decision‚ the justices struck down a New York state law requiring people to demonstrate "proper cause" when seeking a permit to carry a concealed handgun. Gettleman said that Bruen compelled the government to "provide evidence of a historical analogue that is both comparably justified and comparably burdensome of the right to keep and bear arms." The judge said he went all the way back to 1677 but couldn't find historical precedent for a similar prohibition on criminals possessing firearms. He also said that the "plague" of violence in some communities did not override the need for historical precedent that "authorized capital punishment and estate forfeiture for felonies" as demanded by Bruen. While there are "strong policy reasons" for trying to prevent violent crime‚ "lifetime disarmament" is not "rooted in our Nation’s history and tradition‚" Gettleman asserted‚ quoting from another 2023 federal ruling. Bill Kushner‚ a police affairs consultant for WLS-TV‚ argued that the statute preventing felons from possessing weapons came about in the 1930s and then expanded in the 1960s for good reason: it helps prevent violent crime. "The carjackings‚ the shootings‚ these are not just demonized youth‚" Kushner said. "These are people that feel that they have a free hand to do whatever they want without fear of repercussions."Even Richard Pearson‚ the executive director of Illinois State Rifle Association‚ disagreed with Gettleman's decision. "I'm opposed to criminals who have been charged with violent crimes and convicted of those violent crimes from getting a handgun or an FOID card or concealed carry permit of any kind‚" Pearson said.U.S. attorneys have already filed an appeal in the case‚ Law&;Crime reported. The outlet also stated that the case "seems fated to find its way before the U.S. Supreme Court."Like Blaze News? Armed robbery suspects leave message mocking Texas police in stolen car‚ but cops get the last laugh

Texas police said two suspects in an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery left a message mocking them in a stolen car‚ but they were able to turn the tables on the pair. Investigators said the two had been targeting shoppers at a Walmart store in Rowlett on two different days. "Our first victim‚ he was loading his groceries here at the parking lot‚ and he was approached by a suspect at gun point. Pointed a gun at him and demanded to have his wallet‚" said Rowlett Police Corporal Jaqueline Vergara. The victim's dash camera captured the incident from Nov. 7 at about 8:54 p.m. Police said the pair drove away in a stolen black Hyundai Elantra and used the credit cards they had stolen from the victim. That vehicle was allegedly dumped by the thieves and recovered by police. Inside of the car‚ they found a message. "We had fun!" the message read. The suspects had been able to escape despite being chased by police from another city. Police said they drove up to 100 miles an hour during the chase. Another message on the car read‚ "3 Police Chase rly." Police believe that the two male suspects had been inside of the Walmart shopping with a female juvenile just prior to the time of the robbery. They released video of the suspects in hopes of obtaining help from the public to identify them. Vergara said that the same suspects were believed to have tried another armed robbery two days later at the same Walmart at about 10 a.m. "Same kind of of thing‚ the second victim was loading his groceries. He gets approached by the same suspect at gun point demanding his wallet‚ but this time they're in a red Hyundai Sonata‚" she explained. "That vehicle is also stolen‚ stolen out of DeSoto‚ and we see a pattern that they're aiming for Hyundai vehicles. The way we think that they are entering these vehicles are by smashing the back right rear window." The suspects drove off after that intended victim threatened to call 911‚ police said. Police later said that tips from the public led to the identification and arrest of one of the suspects‚ 17-year-old Patrick Taylor. They also identified the other suspect as 21-year-old Dwayne Broadnax‚ though he had not yet been apprehended. The female was dropped off by the suspects before the robbery‚ police said‚ and she is not wanted. Here's a local news report about the incident: Like Blaze News? School board upholds ban on 'Flamer' graphic novel over sexual imagery‚ LGBTQ activists are outraged

A school district in Georgia voted to uphold a ban on a graphic novel with sexual imagery from school libraries‚ and LGBTQ activists are outraged. The Marietta School District had issued guidelines for school library books in September‚ but any decision could be challenged by parents of students in the district. Kayla Sargent appealed the decision over the 370-page graphic novel "Flamer" and forced a special meeting to decide the issue on Thursday. "If you actually read the book‚ you see right away that it’s not sexually explicit‚" Sargent told WAGA-TV. "It’s certainly not pornographic." However‚ a review of the book found numerous questionable images involving a 14-year-old character engaging in masturbation and being attracted to naked‚ underage males. "This is extremely inappropriate. It goes beyond what is normal kids are saying‚" said Becky Simmons‚ a parent who supported the restrictions on the book. "Our tax dollars should not be paying for pornographic material." The school board agreed with Simmons and voted 6 to 1 to continue the restriction. School board member Jason Waters also objected to the book's depiction of suicidal thoughts. He went on to say that there will likely be other books banned from public schools. "Might there be more? Sure. Is it going to be a massive amount? I really don’t think so‚" Waters said. "That was never the intent of this."Sargent implied that the book might have helped queer and minority children to avoid mental illness."If you look at the statistics on adolescent mental health right now‚ the suicide rate are increasing. Not decreasing‚" she continued. "Particularly among queer and children of color."She claimed that her 10-year-old‚ a 5th grader‚ read the graphic novel comfortably with a few minor conversations about the controversial issues depicted. A poll in October found that 85% of Americans oppose controversial books with sexually explicit content in elementary schools. 79% said they were opposed to explicit books in middle schools while 69% said they were opposed to explicit content in high schools. Democrats have decidedly chosen to defend sexual content in books at public schools. "All books should be in the library. All books. This is America. We don't ban books‚" said first lady Jill Biden in 2022. Here's a local news report about the book restriction: Like Blaze News?
