States sue Facebook - harming young people's mental health

33 US states, including New York and California, have joined forces to sue Facebook's parent company Meta - which also owns Instagram - in federal court. In parallel, nine states themselves have sued Meta in their respective states.

The states allege that Meta used new, powerful technology to attract, engage and captivate young people and teenagers in front of their cell phones with the motive of maximizing the company's profits. It is also believed that the company has repeatedly misled the public about the dangers of its platforms.

Another allegation is that it has concealed how it "exploits and manipulates its most vulnerable consumers".

"Children and teenagers are suffering record levels of mental illness and companies like Meta are responsible," said Letita James, director of the New York Department of Justice.

Meta disappointed
In a statement, Meta claims that it wants to offer "safe, positive experiences online" and that it has implemented tools on the platforms to help teenagers and their parents.

It also says it is disappointed that the states chose the path of lawsuits "instead of working productively with companies in the industry to create clear, age-appropriate standards for the many apps teenagers use."

Greta Thunberg's extreme left-wing organization Fridays for Future took a stand on Wednesday evening for Hamas' terrorist act against Israel on October 7. The position was taken via the organization's international Instagram account.

In a series of pictures, Greta's organization writes about "how the Western world's media brainwashes you into supporting Israel". The post goes on to accuse Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and that it is racism to support the Israeli-Jewish side of the conflict.

Fridays for futures posts in turn link to another account. "Sumayeah". Via that account, which is run by an anonymous German-speaking representative of Greta's climate movement, even harsher views are expressed.

Not least open support for Hamas' terrorist acts. "The martyrs did not die in vain. Defend their struggle without hesitation", it is urged, among other things, as well as: "Resistance to victory".



The Fridays for future linked account accuses one of the women who was taken hostage by the terrorist organization during the terrorist act of lying about her experiences.

In social media, it is criticized that Greta's climate movement so openly takes a stand for terror. It is also speculated that the account that Fridays for future links to, "Sumayeaah", refers to Sumayyah Bint Khayyat. According to Islam, she was the first female martyr of that religion.

Greta Thunberg has previously taken a stand for Gaza, which is ruled by the terrorist group Hamas.
