Rudy Giuliani‚ the former mayor of New York City‚ was ordered by a federal jury to pay two Georgia election workers $148 million over a defamation lawsuit related to voter fraud claims. The jury of eight residents of Washington‚ D.C.‚ deliberated for about ten hours before reaching a decision Friday afternoon. Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea ArShaye "Shaye" Moss sued Giuliani‚ who had represented former President Donald Trump as his personal attorney‚ and accused them of participating in a fake balloting scheme during the 2020 presidential election in Fulton County. The jury awarded $16 million to Freeman for compensatory damages for defamation and awarded $17 million to Moss for compensatory damages for defamation. In addition‚ they awarded $20 million to each for emotional distress and $75 million in punitive damages for both. Giuliani had previously said he would take the stand in order to testify in his defense‚ but he changed his mind and never testified. “We feel like these women have been through enough‚” said Giuliani's attorney on Thursday. Mike Gottlieb‚ the attorney for Moss and Freeman‚ argued in his closing statement that Giuliani had dehumanized the workers in order to push his narrative about the election. “He thought they were ordinary and expendable. He didn’t see them as human beings‚” said Gottlieb. “It’s dangerous for them to be Ruby Freeman or Shaye Moss because of Giuliani and his co-conspirators." The women testified about the numerous threats and insults they had received on social media because of the accusations made against them by Giuliani. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner revealed Matthew Perry’s cause of death on Friday afternoon. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said that the "Friends" actor died as a result of "the acute effects of ketamine.""The main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression‚" the medical examiner's report said. “There were trace amounts of ketamine detected in the stomach contents‚” the report continued. “He was reported to be receiving ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety.”The "exact method of intake" of the ketamine is unknown.Drowning on Oct. 28 in a hot tub at his home in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles was also a contributor to his sudden death. “Drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness; coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine-induced myocardial effects on the heart‚” the report stated. “Buprenorphine effects are listed as contributory‚ even though not at toxic levels‚ due to the additive respiratory effects when present with high levels of ketamine. Texas police said that a woman shot and killed a 14-year-old who was allegedly trying to break into her residence at an apartment complex in Fort Worth. The woman had called police at about 3 a.m. to report an attempted burglary‚ according to Fort Worth police. They responded and took a report. After they left‚ the woman called again to report that the alleged burglar had returned. When police responded they found a teenager with a gunshot wound to the chest lying on the ground in front of the woman's residence. He was declared dead at the scene‚ and police said the woman had shot him. KDFW-TV reported that the teenager had been an 8th-grade student at Rosemont Middle School just a few miles away from the scene. They also said that two bullet holes were visible on the front wall of the residence. Police also said that the renter had previously reported other break-ins and attempted break-ins at the same residence. "It's heartbreaking for the community‚ for the officers who responded‚ and for every party involved‚" said Officer Pollozani to WFAA-TV. KDFW spoke to Durwyn Lamb‚ a coach who said he had scheduled to have a mentoring session with the teenager the day after he was killed. He said he got a text from the young man's teacher just before he was to leave for the middle school informing him that the student had died. "Today was just like‚ dang. I just… I wasn’t expecting that‚" he said. "Even though I expect that‚ unfortunately‚ in the community and the culture‚ I wasn’t expecting that today. And that hurt me." Police said that the renter was cooperating with their investigation.
