THUNDERDOME: Some Comparisons to Terrorists Are More Equal Than Others

At CNN’s NewsNight with Abby Phillip, more colloquially known as the Thunderdome, we are often reminded that if it weren’t for double standards there would be none at all. So it is, now, with comparisons to terrorists made at the hallowed Table.  Consider this exchange, broadly over former President Barack Obama’s recent comments on the Marc Maron podcast decrying authoritarian creep (lol, someone get him a mirror), which end with Meidas Bro Adam Mockler comparing the election of President Trump to the election of Hamas in Gaza (click "expand" to view transcript): Full exchange with more context: Abby clearly lost control of the segment. pic.twitter.com/H2i4ubGALO — Jorge Bonilla (@BonillaJL) October 14, 2025 JOSH ROGIN: Are we just going to have a system where Trump tells Harvard or Columbia or the law firm of Johnson and Johnson -- ABBY PHILLIP: Right. ROGIN: -- or the Human Rights Watch, that now you agree with everything I say or you lose all your funding, and I ruin your organization. PHILLIP: Is that the new normal?  CAROLINE DOWNEY: But those are -- but those are taxpayer -- ROGIN: I say that's not good. I say that's a bad thing. PHILLIP: Is that the new normal? I think that’s the new normal. Yeah. (CROSSTALK) PHILLIP: I mean- yeah, we got to go. (CROSSTALK) SCOTT JENNINGS: Didn't we have an election last year? ROGIN: That doesn't justify -- JENNINGS: Are we going to have one next year?  CORNEL WEST: That doesn't rationalize-- (CROSSTALK) JENNINGS: And we're going to have one the next year? (CROSSTALK) JENNINGS: I think the democracy is functioning. We're having a free and fair election. DOWNEY: Oh, so a lot of these institutions are taxpayer-funded. (CROSSTALK) PHILLIP: All right. (CROSSTALK) WEST: There you go. You're rationalizing it again. Hitler could have had the majority. So what -- so what is wrong? (CROSSTALK) ROGIN: …And..and people voted for low-priced eggs… PHILLIP: All right, guys. ROGIN: …not for authoritarianism. There's a difference, you know? MOCKLER: Hamas was elected democratically. (CROSSTALK) PHILLIP: All right. Okay. We're not going to make that comparison at the table. JENNINGS: I just want to note that your Democratic panelist compared Donald Trump’s election to Hamas’s election. Just for the record. (CROSSTALK) PHILLIP: All right. We are not going to do that at the table tonight. Mind you, the Hamas comparison happened immediately after Cornel West compared Trump’s majority win to Hitler’s. It appears to be the case that CNN continues to be tolerant of language among their guests that incites and inflames violence against conservatives, even as we see a spike in political violence.  It’s clear Phillip lost control of the segment, allowing this nonsense to go on for a minute after she called a wrap. She could have shut this foolishness down when West farted out the Hitler comparison, but let it ride and so it was inevitable that Mockler would deal the Hamas card from the bottom of the deck. What’s noteworthy about this is that, despite Phillip noting the inappropriateness of such a comparison, Mockler was right back at the table for the next segment- business as usual. It wasn’t that long ago that a similar terror-comparison joke was made, with a significantly different outcome. As our own Curtis Houck noted at the time: On Monday, CNN NewsNight with far-left pundit Abby Phillip (who pretends to be a journalist) descended into chaos when our friend and conservative panelist Ryan Girdusky quipped to former Al Jazerra and MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan that “I hope your beeper doesn’t go off,” in reference to the exploding beepers across Lebanon targeting members of Hezbollah. Following an explosion of hurt feelings and pearl-clutching by Phillip, Hasan, and far-left commentator Ashley Allison, Phillip threw to a commercial break and, after returning, announced Girdusky was kicked off the panel for having “crossed” “a line” that was “not acceptable to me” in terms of fostering “civility.” CNN subsequently announced Girdusky was banned from the network. Girdusky was run out of the studio and blackballed from the network for making the same statement as did West and Mockler in reference to Trump’s election to the presidency. Some may argue that Trump’s not being in the studio, as was Hasan at the time, is a mitigating factor. That’s a bunch of nonsense. If there is a standard here, it should have been applied equally. Since there isn’t, this means Mockler and West can continue to dehumanize political opposition. Unlike Girdusky’s goofy beeper joke, a situational one-off, these words can potentially inspire more of the violence we’ve seen in recent days. If it weren’t for double standards, there would be none at all.

SNL Portrays Mamdani's Critics As Hysterical, Uninformed Islamophobes

NBC’s 51st season of Saturday Night Live is off to a rough start. Last week, they made fun of J.K. Rowling for daring to oppose the left on transgenderism. This week, cast member Sarah Sherman joined the Weekend Update segment to play the role of Rhonda LaCenzo, a paranoid and Islamophobic critic of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Unsaid throughout the skit was that Sherman herself has campaigned for Mamdani. Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che played the role of the straight newsman, “Well, thanks for being here. I got to say, Rhonda, you have very panicked energy already.” Not even a week after Mamdani, a man who has previously claimed he wants to globalize the Intifada, marked the second anniversary of October 7 by saying the real story is how horrible Israel is, Sherman’s character explained, “Oh, me? Why would I be panicked? Oh, I'm just thrilled that our city is about to be taken over by my favorite type of person, bum-bum-bum-a-bum, hooray, a hipster jihadist.”     After Che informed Sherman that her voting for Andrew Cuomo 48 times is illegal, Sherman continued, “You know what should be illegal, Che, all of Mamdani's socialist policies, free buses, huh? Rent freeze, universal child care? You know, I read that Mamdani himself said that he's going to act—enact Sharia Law in the city. Sharia Law. He can't do that, Che. I know Sharia. She's my nail tech, and she should not be a law. Coffee, Che.” Ah yes, rent control, the policy of every economic illiterate ever. However, Che still wondered, “No, and where are you reading this stuff?” Sherman then continued portraying Mamdani’s critics as uneducated weirdos, “In The New York Times, Che. On their website in a comment for a recipe for a halloumi salad.” A few moments later, it was Sherman who got weird as Che tried again, “That coffee smells a lot like gin. Rhonda, where are you getting your information?” Sherman explained, “Zohran told me, he told me to my face in a sexual fantasy I had about him.”     After Che sought to clarify, “You had a sex dream about him?” Sherman continued, "And I've written it as a screenplay. We open on Tehran. We hear the Muslim call to prayer and out of a cloud of hookah smoke steps the TikTok Bolshevik himself. Zohran, he drops his towel revealing his big, girthy bus. And tonight, I'm riding it for free. Coffee, Che? Coffee, Che?" If anyone’s having a sex dream about Mamdani, it would be Sherman in real life. Still, Che began his conclusion by declaring, “I just think some of what you're saying is pretty Islamophobic is all. Sherman’s dumb character rejected the idea, “Islamaphobic, Che. How dare you. How dare you, Che. I'm not Islamophobic. Okay? I'm just scared of all Muslim people.” After Che explained, “That’s what Islamophobic means,” Sherman relented, “Oh, then that is what I am, yes.” Claiming that people are afraid of Mamdani because he may eliminate bus fares is so dishonest, one resents having to take it seriously, but the truth is Mamdani is a hard-left socialist who poses a grave threat to the city’s economy and has a history of anti-Semitism. Here is a transcript for the October 11-12 show: NBC Saturday Night Live 10/12/2025 12:19 AM ET MICHAEL CHE: Well, thanks for being here. I got to say, Rhonda, you have very panicked energy already. SARAH SHERMAN/RHONDA LACENZO: Oh, me? Why would I be panicked? Oh, I'm just thrilled that our city is about to be taken over by my favorite type of person, bum-bum-bum-a-bum, hooray, a hipster jihadist. CHE: That's pretty strong words out the gate. SHERMAN: Well, Che, he isn't even a real New Yorker, Che. He's from Uganda. Okay? I'm a real New Yorker, Che. I'm from Long Island, Che. CHE: Long Island isn't in New York City. You can't even vote in this election. SHERMAN: Well, really? Then, how come I voted for Cuomo in the primary 48 times, Che? CHE: I don't know, but that's illegal. SHERMAN: You know what should be illegal, Che, all of Mamdani's socialist policies, free buses, huh? Rent freeze, universal child care? You know, I read that Mamdani himself said that he's going to act — enact Sharia Law in the city. Sharia Law. He can't do that, Che. I know Sharia. She's my nail tech, and she should not be a law. Coffee, Che. CHE: No, and where are you reading this stuff? SHERMAN: In The New York Times, Che. On their website in a comment for a recipe for a halloumi salad. CHE: That Sharia Law thing is not true, Rhonda, you know that? SHERMAN: I'll tell you what is true, Che. Mamdani is an ISIS-trained Millennial nepo baby from Uganda. I mean, you got to be kidding me, Che. CHE: Oh. SHERMAN: Hey, Che. Hey, Che .You think Colin would do that joke for me in exchange for a pair of my panties? Coffee, Che? CHE: No. SHERMAN: Coffee, Che. CHE: And that coffee smells a lot like gin. Rhonda, where are you getting your information? SHERMAN: Zohran told me, he told me to my face in a sexual fantasy I had about him. CHE: You had a sex dream about him? SHERMAN: And I've written it as a screenplay. We open on Tehran. We hear the Muslim call to prayer and out of a cloud of hookah smoke steps the TikTok Bolshevik himself. Zohran, he drops his towel revealing his big, girthy bus. And tonight, I'm riding it for free. Coffee, Che? Coffee, Che? CHE: No. Rhonda, I think I'm just confused. There's so much gin in there. I think, I'm just confused why you care. I mean, you don't live in New York City. SHERMAN: Only because I can't afford it. No one can. Listen, Che, whether you like it or not, Long Islanders make New York City what it is. Okay? Without us, who would take calls on speakerphone during The Lion King? Okay? Without us, where would all the most violent cops live? COLIN JOST: Staten Island. CHE: Okay, Rhonda. I just think some of what you're saying is pretty Islamophobic is all. SHERMAN: Islamaphobic, Che. How dare you. How dare you, Che. I'm not Islamophobic. Okay? I'm just scared of all Muslim people. CHE: That’s what Islamophobic means. SHERMAN: Oh, then that is what I am, yes.

Leftist ARRESTED for plot to assassinate conservative commentator Benny Johnson

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson is the latest target of left-wing political violence, after facing threats in a disturbing copycat plot inspired by the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.George Isabel Jr. has been arrested and accused of threatening to make “orphans” of Johnson’s children only days after Charlie’s assassination.“Benny’s a well-known media personality carrying a message very similar to Charlie’s, grounded largely in faith and love of country. Just days after Charlie’s assassination, Benny received a letter at his home, where he and Kate are raising their beautiful, beautiful young family,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement following the threats.“The author of this letter made it very clear that he hated Benny because of his views and he wanted Benny dead. This was a coward hiding behind a keyboard who thought he could get away with this,” she said.“You are not going to get away with threatening people in this way,” she continued, adding that Isabel is being charged federally with mailing threatening communications. And Johnson isn’t taking it lying down either.“To the parents out there,” Johnson tells BlazeTV host Liz Wheeler, “this is a movement about ensuring that you can raise your kids in safety and security, whether it’s from terroristic threatening of left-wing violence, which happened to me specifically in name when this individual, George Isabel Jr., said that he would blow my head off in an open field just like Charlie Kirk and watch my blood splatter on the concrete, or whether it’s from terroristic threatening of homicidal criminals who get let out of jail time and time again and scare you and your children out of the parks and off the streets.”“What America First is is a movement of pro-family. And why is that important? Because actually, Liz, as you know, the things that make you happy in life are having a relationship with God, falling in love, getting married, having children,” he continues. And the reason the left hates those who have prioritized family and God, he says, is because “these people are miserable.”“They are godless. They often don’t have families,” he adds, noting that the man who allegedly sent him death threats will be made an example of in order to stop the incessant fighting against the pro-family movement.“You can’t have a pro-family movement of people if parents are being terroristically threatened,” he says.Want more from Liz Wheeler? To enjoy more of Liz’s based commentary, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

Schumer-backed Democrat governor joins crowded Senate race

A high-profile Democrat has announced her candidacy for the Senate in a high-stakes bid to flip the upper chamber in the 2026 midterms. With the blessing of Democrat leaders and a lengthy track record in government, if elected, Janet Mills would be the oldest freshman senator ever. Mills, the 77-year-old, term-limited governor of Maine, joined a crowded Senate race to challenge Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins. 'Maine Democrats are locked in a bruising fight between Chuck Schumer’s out-of-touch establishment and Bernie Sanders’ far-left radicals.'Mills made her Senate campaign announcement on Tuesday on social media. "I’m running for Senate to defeat Susan Collins and give Maine people someone who will stand up for them in Washington," Mills said in an initial post. In another post, Mills added, "I've never backed down from a bully and I never will. Donald Trump is ripping away health care from millions, driving up costs, and giving corporate CEOs massive tax cuts. And Susan Collins is helping him. My life’s work has prepared me for this fight — and I'm ready to win."RELATED: Trump berates Dem governor refusing transgender order: 'You better comply — otherwise you're not getting any federal funding' Photo by Michael M. Santiago/Getty ImagesMills' campaign launch video highlights her clash with President Trump at a meeting with state governors at the White House in February. Trump threatened to pull federal funding from Maine if the state refused to comply with an executive order about men competing in women's sports, to which Mills replied, "See you in court."According to Fox News, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other Democrat leaders see Mills as the best candidate to flip the seat in 2026. "Maine Democrats are locked in a bruising fight between Chuck Schumer’s out-of-touch establishment and Bernie Sanders’ far-left radicals," National Republican Senatorial Committee communications director Joanna Rodriguez said in a statement in the wake of Mills' announcement, according to Fox News. Fox News reported that Mills' Tuesday announcement comes after an apparent early launch on Friday. Her campaign posted and quickly deleted that announcement, according to the outlet. Other Democrat candidates in the race include Graham Platner, Jordan Wood, Dan Kleban, Carmen Calabrese, and Natasha Alcala. Phillip Rench is running as an independent. Collins, who handily won re-election in several races since she first won the Senate seat in 1996, has not formally announced her intention to run for a sixth term as of this writing. Blaze News contacted Mills and Collins for comment but did not receive a response. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox.
