Trump: It’s DeSantis’ Fault That Florida State Got Left Out Of College Football Playoff

Former President Donald Trump claimed on Monday that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was to blame for Florida State being left out of the College Football Playoff. The former president‚ who is leading in the presidential primary polls as DeSantis is currently in second place‚ made the remarks after the College Football Playoff selection committee selected the four teams that made the playoff: No. 1 Michigan‚ No. 2 Washington‚ No. 3 Texas‚ and No. 4 Alabama. “Florida State was treated very badly by the ‘Committee‚'” Trump‚ who is a resident of Florida‚ said. “They become the first Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs. Really bad lobbying effort … Lets blame DeSanctimonious!!!” However‚ a report from ESPN said that the decision by the committee to exclude Florida State from the playoff had nothing to do with a lack of any sort of lobbying effort. The committee’s decision took exclude Florida State came in-part due to how they struggled to beat Louisville in the ACC Championship Game‚ including struggling to even get first downs in the game. The selection committee — which is comprised former coaches‚ players‚ sitting athletic directors and a former sports reporter — vote repeatedly “on the teams in small batches and continue through the process of voting and debating in groups until the entire list of 25 is compiled‚” ESPN reported. “So it’s not as if they begin talking about Texas and Alabama and vote around them to make it fit. The only time the committee members know the vote is when it’s a tie‚ because they have to vote again.” The report said that the longer the voting went on the more clear it became that Florida State would end up at No. 5 even though things got “heated” in the room. “All of us had the emotional tie‚ like‚ ‘Holy s***‚ this is really going to suck to do this‚'” one committee member told ESPN. “We talked about that over and over‚ and we just kept coming back [to] are they good enough with what they have to win a national championship‚ and it just kept coming back [to] we didn’t think they could.” “People may not believe it‚ but we don’t say‚ ‘Oh gosh‚ if we vote this way‚ the SEC is going to be left out‚” another committee member said. “That never came up. Ever. We literally look at teams‚ put them up against each other‚ and say‚ ‘Who did they beat? Who did they not beat? Who have they beaten on the road? What’s their strength of schedule?’ Look at the matrix and all the data.”

‘Lady Ballers’ Scores Top Spot On Rotten Tomatoes Popular Streamers

The Daily Wire’s newest feature film “Lady Ballers” was billed ahead of its Friday release as the most triggering comedy of the year — and in just three days‚ it shot to the top of Rotten Tomatoes’ most popular streamers list. The raucous comedy — which mercilessly mocks the growing number of biological men competing in women’s sporting events — earned a 96% audience score on the movie-rating site as well. “Lady Ballers” was ranked alongside a number of big budget films‚ some of which had been previously released in theaters. Among them were Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer‚” the new Eddie Murphy comedy “Candy Cane Lane‚” “May December” starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore‚ and last summer’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing weighed in on the incredible launch in a post to X on Saturday‚ saying‚ “Thank you to everyone who helped give Lady Ballers the biggest launch in @dailywireplus history. Best launch day for new subs Best launch day for reviews (97% on Rotten Tomatoes) And the online buzz is off the charts. Come have a laugh with us at DailyWire+. Thank you to everyone who helped give Lady Ballers the biggest launch in @dailywireplus history. Come have a laugh with us at https://t.co/p0JKWmM3US pic.twitter.com/pk9sxjHw75 — Jeremy Boreing (@JeremyDBoreing) December 2‚ 2023 “The only thing happening in our culture more absurd and hilarious than men calling themselves women and then dominating women’s sports is that the ‘speak truth to power’ set on the left not only won’t make fun of it‚ they won’t even acknowledge it’s a joke‚” Boreing said of the film. “This movie is for the women who have trained their entire lives only to be beaten at their sport by a man who couldn’t win at his‚ the majority of Americans who find the whole idea of men in women’s sports to be objectively wrong‚ and anyone who misses comedy – which the woke left destroyed on their ascent to cultural primacy.” Less than 24 hours after the film was released on The Daily Wire’s platform‚ the movie racked up over 1‚000 reviews on the movie review forum Rotten Tomatoes‚ earning a 97% approval rating. “Lady Ballers” tells the story of a down-on-his-luck former high school basketball coach named Rob‚ played by Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing‚ who will do anything to win — in this case‚ teaching his team of men radical modern gender theory and leading them to identify as women in order to brutally dominate multiple women’s sports. Audiences have responded positively to the film‚ calling it a “fresh return to humor” and a “necessary comedy for the current age.” “I knew it would be funny‚ but I hadn’t considered Daily Wire’s ability to tell stories with good values and morals‚ (which of course is the case) The end was phenomenal! Way to go [Daily Wire]. You knocked it out of the park!” another post read. Tim Pearce contributed to this report.

Rare medieval healing bowl‚ archery rings found at Hasankeyf

This year’s excavation of the ancient Hasankeyf mound in southeastern Turkey has uncovered an 800-year-old bronze healing bowl and two archery rings made of agate and bone from the same period. Healing bowls were used in medieval Islamic folk medicine to protect against animal bites. The inside of the bowl is engraved with talismanic verses‚ seals and images of a double-headed dragon‚ a dog‚ a snake and a scorpion. The dragon had apotropaic powers‚ providing protection from evil in two directions. The folk belief was that drinking water from a healing bowl would heal the drinker from dog‚ snake and scorpion bites. The engraving on this bowl makes the association specific. There are only 22 medieval healing bowls documented in museums and private collections around the world. Archery rings (zihgirs in Arabic) were worn on the finger to protect the skin from damage from a bowstring. They were held in high value and were culturally significant artifacts in the Turkish-Islamic arts of the Middle Ages. These are the first zihgirs unearthed at Hasankeyf. One of them was found in a tomb of an adult male. The presence of the valuable ring indicates the deceased was someone of note‚ but no references to his identity have been found in the grave. Built on the banks of the Tigris‚ Hasankeyf is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world‚ with evidence of occupation going back 12‚000 years. The bowl and rings have been transferred to the Hasankeyf Museum Directorate for conservation and display.

Red Sprites are Best Seen from Space

Planet Earth is full of some truly awe-inspiring spectacles‚ but few are as intriguing as a sprite‚ which are officially known as a Transient Luminous Event (TLE) and consist of large-scale electric discharges that shoot upwards while occurring above the cloud tops in the Earth’s mesosphere at approximate altitudes of 50-90 km (31-56 mi). In October 2023‚ European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut‚ Dr. Andreas Mogensen‚ who is currently onboard the International Space Station (ISS) as Commander of the Expedition 70 mission‚ took an incredible image of a red sprite with the Davis camera as part of the Thor-Davis experiment and his Huginn mission. Sprites have been observed from the ground and aircraft. However‚ the preferred observation method is from outer space due to the sprites occurring above the cloud tops and the low altitude of the ISS offering pristine views of these unique lightning features. While they are observed above cloud tops‚ they are hypothesized to originate from normal lightning near the Earth’s surface and act as a “balancing mechanism” used by the Earth’s atmosphere to distribute vertical electrical charges. Since red sprites are essentially lightning strikes and visible for only a fraction of a second‚ specialized event-based cameras such as the Davis camera are required to precisely capture them. The Davis camera contrasts with a normal camera in that it does not take direct photographs‚ but instead creates images by sensing light and contract variances. Through this‚ the Davis camera capabilities are analogous to a normal camera taking 100‚000 images per second. Mogensen) “These images taken by Andreas are fantastic‚” said Dr. Olivier Chanrion‚ who is a senior researcher at Danish Technical University (DTU) Space and lead scientist for this experiment. “The Davis camera works well and gives us the high temporal resolution necessary to capture the quick processes in the lightning.” The Thor-Davis experiment builds off the Thor experiment also conducted by Dr. Mogensen during his first mission to the ISS in 2015. During that experiment‚ Dr. Mogensen shot a 160-second video displaying 245 blue jets‚ which are another type of lightning event that shoots up towards space‚ with results from those findings being published in a 2016 study in Geophysical Research Letters. The earliest recorded report of sprites—though they weren’t called that right away—occurred in November 1885 from the R.M.S. Moselle as it was leaving port in Jamacia with the sprites then being described as a “meteorological phenomenon” while “sometimes tinged with prismatic hues‚ while intermittently would shoot vertically upwards continuous darts of light displaying prismatic colours in which the contemporary tints‚ crimson and green‚ orange and blue‚ predominated.” It took more than 100 years for the first photographic evidence of sprites to happen‚ when a team of scientists from the University of Minnesota accidentally imaged electrical discharges using a low-light-level television camera in 1989‚ with their findings later being published in Science the following year. It wasn’t until a 1995 study published in Geophysical Research Letters that these electrical charges were officially dubbed “sprites”. In the last several decades‚ sprites have been observed from all continents except for Antarctica‚ along with being observed from the ground‚ aircraft‚ and even outer space. (Credit: Zdenek Bardon/ESO) What new discoveries about sprites will researchers make in the coming years and decades? Only time will tell‚ and this is why we science! As always‚ keep doing science &; keep looking up! The post Red Sprites are Best Seen from Space appeared first on Universe Today.
