Mr. Trump announced the donation on Thursday night, but he declined to name the person who provided the funds, only calling him a “patriot” and a friend. But the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the donation was private, identified him as Mr. Mellon. Shortly after departing Washington on Friday, Mr. Trump again declined to identify Mr. Mellon while talking to reporters aboard Air Force One. He only said the individual was “a great American citizen” and a “substantial man.” “He doesn’t want publicity,” Mr. Trump said as he headed to Malaysia. “He prefer that his name not be mentioned which is pretty unusual in the world I come from, and in the world of politics, you want your name mentioned.” Timothy Mellon is a frequent and significant donor to President Trump, and his fortune is estimated at around $14 billion. The New York Post provided more details on his background: Mellon, 83, is the grandson of industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Mellon. The family is believed to be worth $14 billion, according to Forbes. A day after Trump’s 2024 conviction for fraud in New York, Mellon donated a stunning $50 million to the pro-Trump super PAC Make America Great Again. He lives in Wyoming, where he has kept a low profile. Andrew Mellon, who served as the nation’s Treasury Secretary from 1921 to 1932, amassed a fortune in the years leading up to the Great Depression, and ultimately made significant philanthropic contributions to the National Gallery of Art and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. If the reports are accurate and it was Timothy Mellon that donated money to pay our troops, I want to say thank you for helping keep our military paid during the Schumer Shutdown! Oh how the mighty are falling! John Brennan just went on MSDNC to talk about the Jim Jordan criminal referral and let’s just say he didn’t look very solid. Maybe it’s just me but he sure looked shaky in his response — and the interviewer looked and sounded even worse! Earlier this week, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan officially referred former CIA Director John Brennan to the Justice Department, urging prosecution for allegedly making knowingly false statements in a May 2023 interview with the committee. The referral stems from Brennan’s disputed testimony about whether the CIA incorporated the Steele dossier, financed by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, into the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russian election interference. In a formal letter, Jordan wrote: “We write to refer significant evidence that former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan knowingly made false statements during his transcribed interview before the Committee on the Judiciary on May 11, 2023.” Jordan’s letter further accused Brennan of making multiple “willfully and intentionally false statements” that were directly contradicted by both CIA records and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI). Citing 18 U.S.C. § 1001, Jordan reminded the Justice Department that providing false information to Congress is a criminal act, writing: “Under 18 U.S.C. § 1001, a witness commits a crime if he ‘knowingly and willfully… makes any materially false… statement or representation’ with respect to ‘any investigation or review, conducted pursuant to the authority of any committee… of the Congress[.]’ Congress cannot perform its oversight function if witnesses who appear before its committees do not provide truthful testimony. Making false statements before Congress is a crime that undermines the integrity of the Committee’s constitutional duty to conduct oversight.” Jordan also emphasized discrepancies between Brennan’s claims and documented facts, saying: “Brennan’s assertion that the CIA was not ‘involved at all’ with the Steele dossier cannot be reconciled with the facts. As the newly declassified documents show, a CIA officer drafted the annex containing a summary of the dossier; Brennan made the ultimate decision, along with then-FBI Director James Comey, to include information from the dossier in the ICA; and, as discussed further below, Brennan overruled senior CIA officers who objected to the inclusion of the dossier material.” Brennan, however, has long denied misleading Congress, insisting that the CIA opposed adding the dossier to the final report. When interviewed by MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace, who asked, “New tactic, same story. What is your response to Jim Jordan getting in the action?” — Brennan dismissed the move as part of what he called Trump’s “revenge tour.” “Well, it’s clear that that’s exactly what he’s doing. He’s trying to get into the action of Trump’s revenge tour,” Brennan replied, shifting in his seat. “As I’ve said several times on this program, as well as in congressional testimony, I’ve cooperated with all these inquiries and investigations of the government.” Brennan went on to say that he had already fully detailed his role in the 2016 Russian interference probe, accusing Jordan of distorting his testimony for political gain. “I have explained exactly what transpired during the Russian interference in the 2016 election. And Jim Jordan now, I think, is trying to twist my words and misrepresent and mischaracterize the facts as a way to play to and be a supplicant to Donald Trump, which is why he’s making this referral now to the Department of Justice,” he said. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, unloaded on a reporter for asking about illegal aliens, which is a legal term for a person who is illegally in America. Johnson called the term “racist” and sarcastically suggested that he should also call black people “slaves.” The reporter asked Johnson about his apparent refusal to file a report to the White House detailing his city’s spending on illegal aliens. “What has happened with that?” the reporter asked. “We don’t have illegal aliens,” Johnson told the reporter while shaking his head. “I don’t know if that’s from some sort of sci-fi message for which you’ve had.” When the reporter explained that he was merely using a legal term for a person illegally in the country, Johnson made a comparison to slavery. “Listen, the legal term for my people were slaves,” the Democrat said. “You want me to use that term, too?” “Let’s just get the language right,” the mayor continued. “We’re talking about undocumented individuals that are human beings. The last thing that I’m going to do is accept that type of racist, nasty language to describe human beings.” Johnson posted the moment to his Instagram account on Saturday and captioned the post, “This isn’t a sci-fi show. The administration started “Operation Midway Blitz” in Illinois last month, resulting in more than 1,000 arrests. Federal ICE agents have increasingly become targets of violence, especially in sanctuary cities. On October 4, officers in Chicago were targeted in an apparently coordinated strike. According to Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin, officers were “rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars” and agents were forced to exit their vehicles on foot. “One of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon,” McLaughlin explained. “Law enforcement was forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed U.S. citizen who drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds.” The armed woman in question was already on Border Patrol’s radar after she recently doxxed agents and posted online, “Hey to all my gang let’s f*** those mother f***ers up, don’t let them take anyone,” according to the assistant secretary.
