Democrats Prioritize Welfare Over National Security

Few speak the truth as clearly and succinctly as House Speaker Mike Johnson. Appearing on ABC’s “This Week” this past Sunday, co-host Jonathan Karl challenged the speaker’s calling the recent “No Kings” rallies “Hate America Rallies” and calling them “the modern Democratic Party.” Johnson, R-La., responded that “there is a rise of Marxism in the Democratic Party … just look what is happening in New York.” “They are about to elect an open socialist, Marxist as mayor of America’s largest city.” Johnson did not also note that this “socialist Marxist” has been endorsed by New York Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul. The data bear out clearly what Johnson is saying. Per Gallup polling of one month ago, 66% of Democrats said they have a positive view of socialism compared with 42% saying they have a positive view of capitalism. Among Republicans, 74% expressed a positive view of capitalism and 14% a positive view of socialism. The ideological chasm between the two parties has never been deeper or wider. And now this has important implications for national security. Amid the current government shutdown, Republicans want to extract the Defense Department (now War Department) from the morass and are advancing a separate bill to fund the department for one year. Senate Democrats are blocking the bill from a vote unless Republicans agree to what started the shutdown to begin with—Democrats’ insistence on restoring some $500 billion in funding for Obamacare premiums that were enacted as “temporary” during the COVID-19 pandemic. Per the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, discretionary defense spending in 2025 will come out to 2.9% of gross domestic product. This matches its all-time low over the past 50 years. The average annual defense spending as percent of GDP from 1975 to 2004 was over 4%. The Government Accountability Office just issued a scathing report of the state of readiness of Army and Marine Corps ground vehicles—tanks, self-propelled artillery, and armored personnel carriers. According to the report, “Since FY 2015, mission-capable rates declined for 16 of 18 vehicles we reviewed.” In a July report in Business Insider, the Navy’s acting chief of naval operations was quoted as rating the Navy’s average combat-surge readiness at “around 68%.” Per the story, the Navy is “bogged down by shipbuilding struggles and maintenance woes.” China, per the report, “has the largest navy in the world, and it is building new warships at a faster pace than the U.S.” As Ronald Reagan observed: “We know only too well that war comes not when the forces of freedom are strong, but when they are weak. It is then that tyrants are tempted.” But the love of big government and political power of the socialist Democratic Party is now so great that it is more important to them than our national security. Per the libertarian Cato Institute, the Obamacare “enhanced subsidies” that Democrats want to restore “are a costly reminder of how temporary government programs can become billion-dollar permanent entitlements.” The analysis urges that these temporary subsidies not be restored. Per the analysis, extending the temporary subsidies would increase the deficit by $350 billion over 10 years, increase overall spending by more than $488 billion and increase interest costs by $60 billion. Because the temporary COVID-19 subsidies removed the 400% of poverty spending cap, some one-third goes to individuals with incomes above 400% of the poverty line. Further, per Cato, enrollment fraud is rampant, with “more than 6.4 million improper enrollees, costing taxpayers $27 billion in 2025.” Long-term budget projections from the Congressional Budget Office show interest on the federal debt taking 3.2% of our GDP. That puts interest on our debt higher than our defense spending at 2.9%. The CBO projects that interest on the federal debt will reach 4.1% of GDP by 2035 and continue to grow along with ongoing bloating of our federal debt. The big government socialists are squeezing out our national security. We can’t let it happen. COPYRIGHT 2025 CREATORS.COM We publish a variety of perspectives. David Bozell on Fox: Charlie Kirk Honored with MRC's Annual Free Speech Award

MRC president David Bozell appeared on Fox & Friends First Friday Morning to honor Charlie Kirk as the sole winner of MRC's annual free speech award. Host Todd Piro asked Bozell what other factors went into choosing Kirk for this award.  "We gave 35 awards last year. We had a number of people we wanted to consider Congressman Gill, Congresswoman Hagerman, President Trump for all his work in setting the course in his administration, Secretary Rubio and the DOGE efforts. Remember President Biden had 57 different censorship initiatives in his administration that targeted a number of folks in the conservative media ecosystem, including a lot of folks on Fox News payroll, by the way,  and including folks at TPUSA, and including Charlie.  Given Charlie's sacrifice, the ultimate sacrifice, the fact folks felt like they could not debate him anymore, they had to shoot him instead, we wanted to singularly recognize Charlie and his tenacious effort in advancing and protecting and preserving the freedom of speech. There's a reason why the freedom of speech is the first on the list. in preserving free speech and reason why freedom of speech is first on the list." Kirk died a martyr on Sept. 10, 2025, while doing what he loved most: standing up for truth and unapologetically speaking his convictions without fear. MRC leadership decided to make this singular award to Kirk because no other free speech advocate sacrificed so much for the First Amendment.   Kirk was also a founding member of the MRC Free Speech America Advisory Board, helping guide the organization’s mission to defend the First Amendment and push back against rampant Big Tech censorship. What a 3 Month Water Plan Really Looks Like

A long-term water plan is much more than just a few cases of water bottles in a closet and, for most families, involves water sources, procurement, treatment, transportation and storage. The human body is mostly water, and we can perish within a few days without it. Any emergency that takes down the electrical grid also […]

Cuomo 2.0: The corrupt comeback nobody asked for

Not long ago, nearly everyone — Democrats included — agreed that Andrew Cuomo was finished, a despicable scoundrel unfit for public office. As governor of New York, he presided over the deaths of thousands of seniors by forcing nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients. He pushed bail “reform” laws that unleashed violent criminals on the public. And after years of lecturing others about sexism, he resigned in disgrace for allegedly groping female subordinates. That should have been the end of his political career. It wasn’t.The conservative establishment’s embrace of Andrew Cuomo exposes what it has become: a protection racket for failed elites. Now Cuomo is back, running for mayor of New York City, and astonishingly, he’s doing so with the blessing of the so-called conservative establishment. The Murdoch media, Republican megadonor John Catsimatidis, and a parade of Fox News personalities are all urging New Yorkers to cast their ballot for him on Nov. 4. Their justification: Cuomo’s opponent, Zohran Mamdani, is a hundred times worse. The establishment’s favorite ‘lesser evil’Mamdani, a self-described socialist and Hamas sympathizer, is undeniably radical. But the hysteria surrounding him has become an all-purpose excuse for elites to rehabilitate Cuomo. We’re told by pundits that electing this pro-Hamas, pro-LGBTQ Marxist from Uganda would unleash terrorists on the city’s Jewish population. On Fox News this week, Democrat donor Bill Acker and Manhattan rabbi Elliot Cosgrove — who still insists, falsely, that Donald Trump praised Nazis — pleaded with viewers to vote for Cuomo. Moments later, Catsimatidis commanded Republicans to follow Trump’s “endorsement” and support the disgraced ex-governor.The spectacle would be farcical if it weren’t so cynical: lifelong Democrats and media barons treating Cuomo as the savior of civilization because the alternative offends them more. The New York Post’s moral collapseThe lowest point came with a New York Post editorial on October 20, which offered Cuomo a backhanded endorsement while smearing his rival Curtis Sliwa, the Guardian Angels founder who has spent decades fighting crime in New York’s subways. The Post dismissed Sliwa as an “oddball with a sometimes-shady past and zero experience relevant to running the behemoth that is city government.” The same editorial mocked his animal-welfare activism as proof of eccentricity.Contemptible doesn’t begin to describe the awfulness of the Post’s inept editorial. What “shady past” is the Post’s editorial board talking about? The editorial didn’t say — perhaps because nothing in Sliwa’s record compares to Cuomo’s documented abuses of office. The paper that once condemned Cuomo as unfit for power now cheers his comeback, pretending that the only alternatives are socialism or sleaze.Rejecting the real alternativeThe irony is that New York had a credible choice all along. Sliwa, a Reagan Republican with a populist streak, ran close behind Cuomo in the primary. He could have united voters across party lines, much as Fiorello La Guardia did in the 1930s, by campaigning on a single theme: restoring safety to a city in decline.Instead, the city’s plutocrats and media elite sided with the insider they knew. Cuomo belonged to their cocktail circuit; the “oddball” Sliwa didn’t. He talked about crime too much. He didn’t chant “anti-Semite” often enough for their tastes. He simply refused to play their game. Now, with Mamdani leading in the polls, the same establishment that once excoriated Cuomo has gone into panic mode, insisting that he’s the only bulwark against chaos. The New York Post, in particular, has worked overtime to rebrand him as the city’s last line of defense — conveniently forgetting its own editorials from two years ago calling him corrupt and dangerous.RELATED: Why Zohran Mamdani will be ‘one of the most catastrophic mayors ever’ Photo by ANGELA WEISS/AFP via Getty ImagesWhat the election revealsMamdani’s rhetoric on Israel is reckless, and his support for Hamas is morally obscene. But none of that would give him the power to conduct foreign policy. His real danger lies in domestic policy: dismantling what remains of New York’s police protection, completing the work Cuomo started when he ended cash bail.If Mamdani wins, the result will be anarchy. But if Cuomo wins, it will be something worse — vindication for a ruling class that believes corruption is preferable to conviction, provided it keeps the right people in power. The conservative establishment’s embrace of Andrew Cuomo exposes what it has become: a protection racket for failed elites. In the name of “stopping the left,” it now rewards the very figures who wrecked the state in the first place.New Yorkers don’t have to choose between a Marxist and a predator. They could have chosen the man who actually rides the subway and fights for the normal people who live in the city. They chose not to. And the city will keep getting what its establishment demands — chaos, decay, and the return of the despicable scoundrel they once swore they’d never defend.
