BREAKING: Boeing Commercial Plane Carrying Over 240 People Crashes, “It Appears There Are No Survivors”

A London-bound Air India commercial flight with over 240 people onboard crashed Thursday in India’s northwestern city of Ahmedabad. “Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off. The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals,” the airline stated. ”The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals,” it added. The Press Trust then shared images of medics rushing casualties on stretchers. The plane crashed just five minutes after taking off, according to Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of the directorate of civil aviation, who spoke to The Associated Press. It was not clear how many casualties there were from the flight, a Boeing 787 which was bound for London’s Gatwick Airport. But Air India said on X that the flight was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian and seven Portuguese. Multiple videos shared by residents appeared to show charred bodies and body parts at the site of the crash. Casualties may also include people impacted after the plane, or parts of the plane, smashed into the cafeteria of a hostel for male students of the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, according to a hospital official who declined to be named because she was not authorized to speak to the media. She said the hospital was taking in casualties presently. Another doctor at the trauma center where casualties were being treated said so far, 90 people had been bought in. She also requested anonymity because she wasn’t authorized to speak to the media. Reuters reported that at least 30 bodies had been recovered from a building at the site of the plane crash. The Indian prime minister Narendra Modi called the crash a “tragedy” that had “stunned and saddened us.” “It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it,” he wrote on X. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chairman of the Tata Group that operates Air India said, in a statement that flight AI171 was involved in a “tragic incident.” He said the conglomerate was assisting the emergency response teams and providing care and support to those impacted. The airport where the flight departed from has now suspended operations. “The crew of Air India flight AI171 gave a MAYDAY call to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) immediately after take-off, but gave no response after that to calls made by the ATC to the aircraft, according to a statement from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA),” Breaking Aviation News & Videos wrote. Malik said, according to CNBC. However, unverified social media reports indicate there may be at least one survivor from the crash. “40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national, is reported to have survived the Air India crash. He was seated away from his brother, who remains missing. ‘There was a huge bang just seconds after takeoff. I ran through smoke and fire.’ He is one of the only confirmed survivors so far,” Breaking Aviation News & Videos wrote. 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national, is reported to have survived the Air Indiacrash. The flight was bound for London Gatwick Airport when it was “involved in a tragic accident today,” Air India Chairman N Chandrasekaran said. Video posted on social media appeared to show the jetliner descending followed by a fireball and a dark plume of smoke. It wasn’t clear if there were survivors, but if there are casualties, it would be the first fatal crash of a Boeing Dreamliner. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a top-selling wide-body aircraft meant for longer routes. The aircraft was delivered to Air India in 2014, according FlightRadar24. The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately known and could take months to determine. Under international protocols during crashes, the country where the incident took place will lead the investigation, along with officials, the maker of the aircraft and its engines, and others. Initial flight-path data “shows that the aircraft reached a maximum barometric altitude of 625 feet (airport altitude is about 200 feet) and then it started to descend with an vertical speed of -475 feet per minute,” FlightRadar said on X. The more than 11-year-old plane had 41,000 hours of flight time, nearly 8,000 takeoffs, which are average for that aircraft and the year it was built, according to aviation-data firm Cirium.

Fears that Christianity was incompatible with life in a rock band caused much soul-searching for U2 in the early '80s, and almost led the band to break up

Trump To Slash California’s Far-Reaching EV Mandates: ‘Never Achievable’

President Donald Trump is set to revoke California’s electric vehicle mandates, which have been adopted by nearly a dozen other states nationwide. The president will sign three congressional resolutions on Thursday, putting an end to California’s ban on the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035, Reuters reported. The imminent move, made possible by Trump signing resolutions of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act, was celebrated by a group representing major automakers, including GM, Stellantis, Toyota, Hyundai, and Volkswagen. “The fact is these EV sales mandates were never achievable,” said Alliance for Automotive Innovation CEO John Bozzella. “In reality, meeting the mandates would require diverting finite capital from the EV transition to purchase compliance credits from Tesla.” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), who led the effort to strip the EV mandate, said that Trump plans to sign the resolutions at the White House Thursday morning, POLITICO reported. The California mandate was adopted by 11 other states, representing one-third of the auto market in the United States. One of the resolutions signed by Trump repeals a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency waiver that was granted under the Biden administration and greenlit California’s mandate for at least 80% of new vehicles to be electric by 2035, according to Reuters. Trump will sign another resolution approved by the Republican-controlled Congress to rescind a 2023 EPA approval for California to require automakers to produce more zero-emission heavy-duty trucks. The third resolution eliminates the state’s low-nitrogen oxide regulation targeting heavy-duty trucks and off-road vehicles. Republicans and auto companies have pushed for the EV regulations to be addressed. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said last month that the EPA’s waivers allowed California “to dictate emissions standards for the whole country – effectively imposing a nationwide electric vehicle mandate.” In May, the GOP-led House voted to pass a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval for the EV mandate with the support of 35 Democrats. The Congressional Review Act allowed the Senate to bypass a filibuster to undo the EV regulations, as The Daily Wire previously reported. In their vote, Senate Republicans were joined by Michigan Democrat Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who said she has “a special responsibility to stand up for the more than one million Michiganders whose livelihoods depend on the U.S. auto industry.” Trump signaled his support for ending California’s EV mandate while on the 2024 campaign trail. “When I’m president, no state in America will be permitted to ban gas-powered cars or trucks, and I guarantee it,” Trump told his supporters at a rally in Saginaw, Michigan. California Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta said his state would sue over Trump’s move “to protect California’s longstanding authority to maintain clean vehicle standards.” “President Trump may be playing partisan games with lives and good-paying jobs on the line—but California won’t back down,” Bonta added.
