Robert Earl Keen’s “Applause For The Cause” Benefit Show Raises $3 Million & Counting For Texas Flood Relief
Making a significant contribution to the state he calls home.
On the 4th of July, parts of South and Central Texas, especially Kerr County, were ravaged by floodwaters, sweeping away people, homes, and communities. The event was horrific to say the least. Families are mourning their loved ones, and the affected communities are still identifying what they need to rebuild.
Thankfully, with the help of the country music community, many artists have announced or put on benefit shows. George Strait’s ‘Strait To The Heart’ concert raised $6.5 million and counting, Pat Green raised over $1 million through his virtual concert held at Globe Life Field, Koe Wetzel’s show raised over $750,000, and Josh Weathers quickly organized a virtual show that surpassed $500,000.
There have been many other concerts that have raised significant amounts of money as well, and it’s been beyond incredible to see so many Texas musicians band together to help the Lone Star State.
Last night, Texas legend Robert Earl Keen hosted his benefit show Robert Earl Keen & Friends: Applause For The Cause. After the floods, Keen was one of the first artists to take to social media, announcing that he would host a benefit concert in the weeks to come.
“I will be working on a benefit to support the community, and more details to follow as soon as we know them. In the meantime, please support those in need via the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. That’s the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.”
The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has established the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund to support local response, relief, and recovery efforts following the devastating July 4th flood. You can access the Fund here: https://t.co/fSsOpJj2hq pic.twitter.com/uyYMBazwaX

Robert Earl Keen kept his early promise of putting on a benefit show, officially dubbed, and he ensured it was one that folks would not forget. On August 28th at Whitewater Amphitheater outside of New Braunfels, Texas, Keen hit the stage with special guest Tyler Childers, alongside a special trio set from Miranda Lambert, Jon Randall, and Jack Ingram, plus Cross Canadian Ragweed, Randy Rogers, Ryan Bingham, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and more.
The show sold out five minutes after going on sale, but, like many other shows, he provided streaming options so fans could tune in and, more importantly, donate to the cause. If you were unable to watch last night, I highly recommend going to watch the show after reading this, because it was truly incredible. Not only was White Water Amphitheater overflowing with talent, but the pride each artist exuded on stage to be a part of this event was palpable through the TV screen.

During the show, Arch “Beaver” Aplin, CEO of Buc-ee’s, took to the stage with Robert Earl Keen, given they were the concert’s presenting sponsor, and assured the crowd that all the money raised was “going to the right people.” Aplin announced the total amount raised at the end of the concert and shared that he had donated $1 million of his own to the fund.
“The Buc-ee’s family is so happy to be able to participate in this. Robert called me and asked me to do this, and I said ‘Hell yeah.’ $3 million bucks, and it’s going to the right place, it’s going to the people, it’s going to the Hill Country. And I’m not surprised this is what Texans do. They take care of each other. God bless, thank you.”
$3 MILLION. That’s an incredible contribution to Kerr County and other parts of the Texas Hill Country.
However, donations are still open. Robert Earl King is keeping the donation link live through the end of Robert Earl King’s homecoming weekend. The Labor Day weekend festival begins tomorrow, August 30th, and goes through September 1st at John T. Floore Country Store in Helotes, Texas. The weekend includes stellar music from Keen himself, American Aquarium, Silverada, and more.
Merchandise from the benefit show is still available for sale, and 100% of the proceeds will go to the cause.
If you weren’t able to tune in to the show, sit down and catch up while you’re here. And if you feel called, donate to an incredible cause. Texans show up for each other, and the overwhelming support since the horrific floods is genuinely incredible.
