‘Righteous Strikes’: Congress Reacts to Classified Briefing on Narco-Terrorist Strikes

When members of Congress emerged from a classified briefing on the now-controversial Sept. 2 strikes against an alleged Venezuelan narco-terrorist boat, Democrats continued to accuse the Trump administration of war crimes and called for the firing of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, while Republicans claimed the Trump administration was well within its rights to carry out the strikes. After news reports this week created conflicting narratives about the Sept. 2 strikes, Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley, head of Special Operations Command, came to Capitol Hill to brief members of the House and Senate. Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., said Hegseth should be fired in comments made to the press on Thursday. The Arizona senator is currently being investigated by the Department of War and the DOJ following his participation in a video that called for members of the military to “refuse illegal orders” from the Trump administration in the midst of America’s campaign against the alleged drug traffickers. Kelly and the other members who took part in the video have been labeled “the Seditious Six” by members of the Trump administration. “As veterans of various sorts, the Seditious Six knew exactly what they were doing—sowing doubt through a politically-motivated influence operation. The @DeptofWar won’t fall for it or stand for it,” Hegseth wrote about Kelly and the other video participants on November 25. It’s not the first time Kelly has called for Hegseth’s termination. Kelly had previously called for Hegseth to be fired after the leak of a private Signal group chat of high-ranking Trump officials to The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg. Ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., described the footage from Sept. 2 as “one of the most troubling things I’ve seen in my time in public service.“ “You have two individuals in clear distress without any means of locomotion, with a destroyed vessel were killed by the United States,” Himes added. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., however, described the September 2 attacks as “righteous strikes” at a press gaggle on Thursday. “I didn’t see anything disturbing about it,” Cotton said of the video. “What’s disturbing to me is that millions of Americans have died from drugs being run to America by these cartels.” “These are Narco terrorists who are trafficking drugs that are destined for the United States to kill thousands of Arkansans and millions of Americans,” Cotton said. “I saw two survivors trying to put the boats loaded with drugs bound for the United States back over, so they could stay in the fight,” the Arkansas senator explained. “And potentially, given all the contacts we heard of other Narco terrorist boats in the area coming to their aid, to recover their cargo, and recover those narco-terrorists.” Previously, the Washington Post reported from an anonymous source that Hegseth had given an oral order to “kill everybody,” which precipitated a second strike on the drug boat when two survivors were spotted. On Monday, however, the New York Times reported that Hegseth had not given that oral order and that Bradley had overseen the operation and the second strike. Navy Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley, who oversaw the controversial deadly boast strike on an alleged Venezuelan narco-terrorist vessel, will meet with members of Congress on Thursday.@SecWar  Pete Hegseth has repeatedly defended the strikes. @Virginia_Allen5…— The Daily Signal (@DailySignal) December 4, 2025 Fellow Arkansan, Republican Rep. Rick Crawford, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, also expressed support for the Department of War’s actions on September 2.  “There is no doubt in my mind about the highly professional manner in which the Department of War conducted, and is conducting the operations our nation has called them to do to protect the homeland from these dangerous cartels,” Crawford said in a statement posted on X. Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., told The Daily Signal that, “President Trump and [War] Secretary [Pete] Hegseth have every right to destroy every narco-terrorist trying to smuggle drugs into the U.S. that they can find.” “The truth is the Democrats never wanted Secretary Hegseth—he’s a threat to permanent Washington’s status quo and the Democrats can’t stand that. I support Secretary Hegseth and applaud the work he has done to bring a realist perspective to our foreign policy and a warrior ethos back to our military,” the Missouri senator added. Cotton also praised the Trump administration for its strikes on the narco-terrorists. “What’s gratifying to me is that the president has made the decision, finally, after decades of letting it happen, that we’re going to take the battle to them. And we’re going to continue to strike these boats until [the] cartels learn their lesson, when their drugs are no longer coming to America,” Cotton stated. Cotton detailed the process by which the attacks had been authorized. “Look, this is not like a firefight in some cave in Afghanistan that had three people. This was witnessed by literally hundreds of uniformed and civilian personnel at the Pentagon, at Fort Bragg, at other installations. Dozens of them were lawyers. Everybody was watching. Everybody had seen the intelligence and the legal basis leading up to these strikes,” Cotton said. The Army veteran expressed an openness to releasing the footage he saw in the closed-door briefing to the public stating he would leave the determination up to the Department of Defense but that he “didn’t see anything in there that concerned me.” “Look, these videos have been made and released for 25 years,” Cotton added.  When asked if he would have made the same call on the strikes, Cotton said he would have. “If I was Admiral Bradley, and I’d been delegated that authority, absolutely,” the senator concluded. EXCLUSIVE: No New Somali Refugees Have Entered the US Since Jan. 20, State Department Says

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—A State Department spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Signal Wednesday that no new Somali refugees have been admitted to the U.S. since President Donald Trump took office. The Somali community in Minnesota has gained renewed scrutiny in the wake of multiple fraud scandals, including a massive $250 million fraud scandal involving the now-defunct nonprofit Feeding Our Futures. “Since President Trump took office on January 20, 2025, no Somali refugees have been admitted in our nation,” the State Department representative told The Daily Signal. “Admitted refugees during the Biden-era receive reception and placement services, the first 90 days of which have been provided by the State Department.” The State Department’s Refugee Admissions Program tracks how many refugees the U.S. admits every month. Since Trump signed an executive order suspending entry into the U.S. under the program, only a handful of refugees have been admitted from three countries: Afghanistan, El Salvador, and South Africa. Thousands of Somali refugees entered the country in the first months of fiscal year 2025, however, which began on Oct. 1, 2024. The program records the admission of 4,992 Somali refugees from October through January. Six hundred and seventy of them settled in Minnesota. Ohio received the second-largest number at 245, followed closely by New York at 211. In fiscal year 2024, 1,267 Somalis settled in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Roughly 76,000 people of Somali descent live in Minnesota, more than half of whom were born in the U.S., according to Census Bureau data cited by CBS News. The Somali Fraud Scandals Multiple high-profile fraud charges and convictions have drawn the Minnesota Somali community into the national spotlight. The office of U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen has charged 78 defendants connected to the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, and 56 of them have pleaded guilty. Authorities have also filed charges in a $14 million fraud case involving an autism program and a multi-million-dollar fraud case involving housing stabilization services. Last month, conservative journalist Christopher Rufo highlighted how many fraudsters sent cash to the Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab. Members of this community reportedly went to train with al-Shabaab in Somalia and the Islamic State, but law enforcement has partnered with others in the community to combat radicalism. Somali refugees come to the U.S. to escape the civil war in their homeland, which has dragged on for more than 30 years. Piracy, grinding poverty, and the influence of radical Islamist groups like Al-Shabaab also make life hard in the East African country. Trump’s Comments About the Somali Community “Somalians ripped off that state for billions of dollars,” Trump said in a Cabinet meeting Tuesday. “They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you.” Trump condemned Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who came from Somalia and represents a Somali-majority area of the state, as “garbage.” “We strongly condemn the dangerous and openly racist rhetoric targeting Rep. Ilhan Omar and the broader Somali American community,” the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an Islamic activist group that often pushes leftist causes, told The Daily Signal in response to Trump’s remarks. “Efforts to smear all Somali Americans with raw racism is the latest example of political leaders trying to use a boogeyman to distract the American public from real issues.” CAIR, which has historic ties to terrorist-funding networks, did not address the fraud scandal in its statement. State Rep. Kristin Robbins, a Republican and chair of the committee on Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy, previously told The Daily Signal that while most of the fraudsters are Somali, she has worked with whistleblowers who also hail from that community. “Two things can be true at the same time: Most of the fraud of the people so far indicted and prosecuted has been from the Somali community. Also, some of the best whistleblowers have come from the Somali community,” she said. ‘They’re Making Sh*t Up!’ Scarborough Irate 2nd Boat Strike Warranted

In accordance with the liberal media’s obsession with the Pentagon’s alleged “war crime” that took place in early September, MS NOW’s Joe Scarborough lashed out at Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for ridding standard military procedure and “making shit up.” Senior military officials, including Admiral Mitch Bradley, were scheduled to brief top members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees later that day. During Thursday’s Morning Joe, Scarborough began by painting the controversy as a nonpartisan issue that will inevitably damage those responsible: Most conservative, serious conservative thinkers like Andy McCarthy, Jack Goldsmith, others, they think this entire operation is illegal. Not the double tap. They think the entire operation is not a war. George Will put it very, very well yesterday when he said, “Pete Hegseth committed a war crime without a war.” That's quite an accomplishment. So, it is a real mess. And you have the top admiral and the top JAG officer going, “No, no, we're — this doesn't look right.” And, again, it's all going to come out, even though they're scrambling around and trying to protect themselves, there's no protecting themselves from the truth. Scarborough would like you to think respected individuals find the effort definitively wrong. However, according to a CBS News poll, 53 percent of U.S. adults approve of “using military force to attack boats suspected of bringing drugs into” the States. Were none of them “serious conservatives,” Joe? The truth, indeed, shall come out in due time. But considering that the boat operators were covered by President Trump’s Executive Order designating them as Foreign Terrorists, the fact remained that the Caribbean confrontations were unconventional warfare, which should protect the strikes.     Co-host Willie Geist scoffed at comments from those with knowledge of the strikes saying that the alleged traffickers were trying to salvage drugs and were trying to radio for backup (Click “Expand”): GEIST: … you know, the explanation we're hearing a little bit is that maybe these two guys who survived were attempting to get back on the boat and somehow continue the mission. This flaming, smoking vessel that these guys were going to climb back on board and continue their drug run. That's one of the reports — one of the spins we’re hearing. But again, that's just today's explanation. SCARBOROUGH: That's today's explanation. GEIST: There’s something different every day. It appears as though the leftists would latch on to every new emerging detail as further evidence of an ever-worsening scandal. Even ABC reported the night prior that the alleged drug smugglers were attempting to recoup and were “still in the fight” after the initial strike on September 2nd:   ABC’s Martha Raddatz on Wednesday’s ‘World News Tonight’ about drug boat-gate: “And tonight, new information: According to a source familiar with the incident, the two survivors climbed back on to the boat after the initial strike. They were believed to be potentially in… pic.twitter.com/R5eHFzzDql — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) December 4, 2025   Scarborough scathed Hegseth for (allegedly) failing to follow proper military regulations when conducting the operation: And then there's also the “Oh, well, they had a radio and they were radioing.” Oh, so that — oh, does that mean now the new, sort of, rules of warfare, if you have a prisoner and they're indefensible and they have a radio, you can shoot them in the head. That's now the new Hegseth policy. If they have a radio, you can shoot them in the head. Forget the war crimes. Forget what the U.S. Army manual says. Forget what the military — the DOD manual says. So yeah, they're making shit up as they go along every day. Unorthodoxy does not necessarily mean illegality. And if you look at the video released by President Trump, the boat was not fully destroyed by the first “kinetic” strike — potentially warranting an insurance measure. And to touch on the most obvious point ignored by everyone thus far: The United States held supreme authority to defend and destroy any existential threat to the American people, regardless of its size or severity. The transcript is below. Click "expand" read: MS NOW’s Morning Joe December 4, 2025 6:02:33 a.m. EST JOE SCARBOROUGH: Now let's just back up for one second. Most conservative, serious conservative thinkers like Andy McCarthy, Jack Goldsmith, others, they think this entire operation is illegal. WILLIE GEIST: Yeah. SCARBOROUGH: Not the double tap. They think the entire operation is not a war. George Will put it very, very well yesterday when he said, “Pete Hegseth committed a war crime without a war.” MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Right. SCARBOROUGH: That's quite an accomplishment. So, it is a real mess. And you have the top admiral and the top JAG officer going, “No, no, we're — this doesn't look right.” And, again, it's all going to come out, even though they're scrambling around and trying to protect themselves, there's no protecting themselves from the truth. GEIST: And imagine being that career admiral, Admiral Halsey, who you just talked about in this incredible piece in the Wall Street Journal and being told by Pete Hegseth, “Get on board or else. And when you get an order” — GEIST: “Don't ask questions.” SCARBOROUGH: — “don't ask questions, pal.” That's what Pete Hegseth is saying to these admirals. So we will hear from Admiral — BRZEZINKSI: Yeah. GEIST: — Martin this morning when he talks to Congress. And we — you know, the explanation we're hearing a little bit is that maybe these two guys who survived were attempting to get back on the boat and somehow — SCARBOROUGH: [Laughing] What? GEIST: — continue the mission. BRZEZINKSI: And be a threat. GEIST: This flaming, — BRZEZINKSI: Right. GEIST: — smoking vessel — SCARBOROUGH: Exactly. GEIST: — that these guys were going to climb back on board and continue their drug run. That's one of the reports — SCARBOROUGH: Which is — GEIST: — one of the spins we’re hearing. SCARBOROUGH: —totally insane. GEIST: Which is insane. SCARBOROUGH: Right. BRZEZINSKI: Yeah. GEIST: That's part of the spin we're hearing this morning, that those two people were still a threat, therefore the double tap — BRZEZINKSI: [Inaudible] to be annihilated. GEIST: — was warranted. But again, that's just today's explanation. SCARBOROUGH: That's today's explanation. GEIST: There’s something different every day. BRZEZINKSI: [Inaudible] changed. SCARBOROUGH: And then there's also the “Oh, well, they had a radio and they were radioing.” Oh, so that — oh, does that mean now the new, sort of, rules of warfare, if you have a prisoner and they're — BRZEZINSKI: Yeah. SCARBOROUGH:  — indefensible and they have a radio, you can shoot them in the head. GEIST: Right. SCARBOROUGH: That's now the new Hegseth policy. If they have a radio, you can shoot them in the head. BRZEZINSKI: Yeah. SCARBOROUGH: Forget the war crimes. Forget what the U.S. Army manual says. Forget what he military — the DOD manual says. So yeah, they're making shit up as they go along every day. And the inconsistency of it all, again, looks very bad. GEIST: And Hegseth is still, Mika, claiming “fog of war,” which — BRZEZINSKI: Right. GEIST: — is to say, there's a lot of stuff that goes on in war in the moment that, you know, you gotta just accept. BRZEZINSKI: It’s utterly ridiculous. GEIST: That’s not gonna fly. BRZEZINSKI: Okay, so, in combat, he calls it combat, that — GEIST: Yeah. BRZEZINSKI: — blowing up a boat.

The View Ignores ABC’s Own Reporting 2nd Boat Strike Was Warranted

Despite The View being under the ABC News umbrella, they completely disregarded reporting from Martha Raddatz, the network’s chief global affairs correspondent, which said the so-called “double tap” strike on an alleged Venezuelan drug boat was indeed warranted. Without evidence, moderator Whoopi Goldberg indignantly proclaimed that the men on the boat weren’t trying to salvage the drugs; a direct contradiction to Raddatz’s reporting. During the segment, Goldberg angrily went to the mat for the alleged narco-terrorists blown up in the strike, swearing up and down that “they weren’t posing any danger” and weren’t trying to salvage the drugs: If you have people on at and you blow up the boat and the people - there's two people hanging on the side of the boat, they're not carrying fentanyl! They're not swimming with the fentanyl on them! So they weren't posing any danger! “AND WE'RE NOT AT WAR WITH ANYBODY!” Goldberg yelled.   Whoopi tries to contradict ABC's own reporting from Martha Raddatz last night that those on the drug boat were "still in the fight," were on the radio, and tried to salvage drugs: GOLDBERG: If you have people on at and you blow up the boat and the people - there's two people… pic.twitter.com/sv6TEoMLoR — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) December 4, 2025   “They would rather have an allegation of a war crime than let people in America focus a bad economy and the Epstein files,” added co-host Joy Behar. “They would rather you look here than look over here.” But that’s literally the opposite of what Raddatz had reported during Wednesday’s edition of ABC’s World News Tonight. She even admitted that legal counsel was in the room giving legal advice on the strike: And tonight, new information: According to a source familiar with the incident, the two survivors climbed back on to the boat after the initial strike. They were believed to be potentially in communication with others, and salvaging some of the drugs. Because of that, it was determined they were still in the fight and valid targets. A JAG officer was also giving legal advice. So, again, David, that video will be key and Admiral Bradley will be on the Hill tomorrow behind closed doors.   ABC’s Martha Raddatz on Wednesday’s ‘World News Tonight’ about drug boat-gate: “And tonight, new information: According to a source familiar with the incident, the two survivors climbed back on to the boat after the initial strike. They were believed to be potentially in… pic.twitter.com/R5eHFzzDql — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) December 4, 2025   Since she was absent most of the week, away with an illness, faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin was finally able to contribute to The View’s lies about the situation. Farah Griffin parroted their false claim from the previous day that the Trump administration was throwing Admiral Bradley “under the bus” for the double tap. You might also notice that she didn’t care enough to get Bradley’s name right: He now seems to be throwing under the bus Admiral Brady [sic] who’s someone I don't know well but I worked with at the Pentagon. He’s somebody who has a stellar reputation, is respected by both sides of the aisle, and I will say – we don't have all the facts – I have a hard time believing that he would have called for what amounts, I would believe, to a war crime with the information that he had. So, whether he got wrong information from someone above him in directing that, it just doesn't feel like the Secretary who -- he's the one who should be taking responsibility, instead he's just pointing the finger, ‘this someone else’s.’   Ignoring ABC's own reporting that the double tap was warranted, Alyssa Farah Griffin falsely claim the Trump administration is throwing Admiral Bradley "under the bus" for the drug boat strikes (the WH is defending him), and falsely claims he committed "a war crime." Behar claims… pic.twitter.com/SNt84uLWC1 — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) December 4, 2025   That’s despite the White House literally defending him. “[Admiral Bradley] was well within his authority to do so,” proclaimed White House Press Secretary Karoline Levitt from the briefing room podium. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View December 4, 2025 11:05:45 a.m. Eastern (…) ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: And I know you guys have been talking earlier in the weak about these Venezuelan alleged drug boat interdictions that we've seen and these double tap strikes that have taken place. He now seems to be throwing under the bus Admiral Brady [sic] who’s someone I don't know well but I worked with at the Pentagon. He’s somebody who has a stellar reputation, is respected by both sides of the aisle, and I will say – we don't have all the facts – I have a hard time believing that he would have called for what amounts, I would believe, to a war crime with the information that he had. So, whether he got wrong information from someone above him in directing that, it just doesn't feel like the Secretary who -- he's the one who should be taking responsibility, instead he's just pointing the finger, ‘this someone else’s.’ SARA HAINES [Mockingly]: Well, he had a meeting, Alyssa. He had to leave the room. FARAH GRIFFIN: Despite taking credit for the strike on Fox News. JOY BEHAR: But Trump won’t do anything about it. He’ll just call it a hoax and send ICE into New Orleans like he’s doing. FARAH GRIFFIN: And I’m sorry, Admiral Bradley. I said “Brady.” BEHAR: To distract from the whole thing. He's not going to get rid of him. (…) 11:08:45 a.m. Eastern WHOOPI GOLDBERG: If you have people on at and you blow up the boat and the people - there's two people hanging on the side of the boat, they're not carrying fentanyl! They're not swimming with the fentanyl on them! So they weren't posing any danger! HOSTIN: And it's a war crime according to the military – GOLDBERG: AND WE'RE NOT AT WAR WITH ANYBODY! HOSTIN: That' right. FARAH GRIFFIN: No one voted for war. BEHAR: They would rather have an allegation of a war crime than let people in America focus a bad economy and the Epstein files. They would rather you look here than look over here. That’s what this is about, to me. (…)

'Lawful and needful': Navy admiral dispels Hegseth's alleged 'kill them all' order during drug-boat strike

Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth remains on offense, as another military official stands up in defense of the infamous boat strike against alleged drug traffickers. The Washington Post published a story claiming that Hegseth ordered Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley to "kill them all" during a September 2 strike on alleged drug boats, insinuating that the alleged order amounted to a war crime. 'I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat, load it with drugs.'Bradley echoed remarks made by Hegseth and members of the administration defending the strike and calling the Post's reporting into question.Lawmakers exiting the Thursday-morning meeting with Bradley reaffirmed that the accusations levied against Hegseth and his Pentagon were unfounded, claiming there was "no such order."RELATED: Trump’s boat strikes may leave one Venezuelan drug-smuggling pirate haven in ruins Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images"The first strike, the second strike, and the third and the fourth strike on September 2 were entirely lawful and needful, and they were exactly what we would expect our military commanders to do," Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas said as he was exiting the classified briefing."Admiral Bradley was very clear that he was given no such order, to give no quarter or to kill them all," Cotton added. RELATED: Turns out that Hegseth’s ‘kill them all’ line was another media invention Photo by Kevin Dietsch/Getty ImagesCotton went on to describe the footage of the strike that was shown to the lawmakers. "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat — loaded with drugs, bound for the United States — back over so they could stay in the fight," Cotton said. "And potentially, given all the context we heard, of other narco-terrorist boats in the area coming to their aid."Like Blaze News?
