Charles Wesley Godwin, Colby Acuff & Phillip Bowen All Volunteer To Play Sheetz Gas Station Concert, & We Gotta Make This Happen

Think Buc-ee’s is the best gas station in all of the land? Sheetz would like a word. While some tertiary gas stations are struggling to just provide clean bathrooms and friendly services, two gas station giants are revolutionizing the role of gas stations in modern day society (buckle up, I’m about to say “gas station” a lot in this story). Think service stations are just for filling up on gas and stocking up on snacks and drinks for the road? Wrong. Places like Buc-ee’s and Sheetz are showing that gas stations are more than just a couple of pumps and aisles of junk food. They’re places where people can gather, and untapped locations for killer concerts. Sounds weird right? If you think so, that’s just because your brain can’t think outside the box as well as Sheetz and Buc-ee’s can. Both gas station franchises have hosted concerts at one of their locations in the past year. You might remember Keith Urban firing up his guitar in a Buc-ee’s parking lot not too long ago, and Sheetz just recently hosted the All-American Rejects at one of their Philadelphia locations. Now that Sheetz – a gas station chain primarily located in the eastern United States – has pulled off a successful concert, the franchise is hungering for more. That’s why they sent out this post earlier today asking fans and followers who their next parking lot concert should feature. Tag who we should have a parking lot concert with next — SHEETZ (@sheetz) August 20, 2025 Hundreds of people have already flooded the reply section of the post with requests. But a handful of country artists that are familiar with the Sheetz brand have gone a step further and volunteered themselves to be a part of what could turn into one hell of a “Sheetz Concert Series.” First up is West Virginia native Charles Wesley Godwin, who is very familiar with the Sheetz brand since there are around 60 of them in the Mountain State. The “All Again” singer didn’t hesitate to throw his name into the Sheetz concert hat, and said he’d happily host his patented high-energy show at a Sheetz location: I’m 100% in on this if it happens https://t.co/URZBkacMIi — Charles Wesley Godwin (@CharlesWesleyG) August 20, 2025 Imagine seeing CWG in a gas station parking lot. That’s something you tell your grandkids about. Moving right along, country singer-songwriter Colby Acuff – a self proclaimed “gas station dude” – was also all about the opportunity to put on a concert in a Sheetz parking lot. Apparently he just needed to hear the words “parking lot” and “concert” together to commit to a Sheetz show: As the gas station dude, I’m in https://t.co/pOiONbWrVL — Colby Acuff (@ColbyAcuff) August 20, 2025 Still want to know what “gas station dude” means. Then you have uberly talented musician Philip Bowen. He can play the fiddle like no other, and he insisted that he’d be perfect for a Sheetz concert. In fact… he shared that he and Ian Munsick have already been a part of one, and he’d love nothing more than to be able to run it back. Aight let’s run it back, @sheetz https://t.co/fdkGQpsHNf pic.twitter.com/nBB1ptOVAn — Philip Bowen (@Philbow55) August 20, 2025 You read that right… there used to be something called “Sheetz Truck Bed Sessions.” It appears that it was short lived, with only three “Truck Bed Sessions” in existence… as far as I can tell. The first featured Ian Munsick and Philip Bowen, the second had the rocking country Brent Cobb take center stage, and the third was the incredibly underrated band Southall. Looks to me like Sheetz already has this year’s “Sheetz Truck Bed Sessionz” lined up: Charles Wesley Godwin, Colby Acuff and Phillip Bowen – potentially with Ian Munsick. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a hypothetical (for now) gas station concert series in my entire life. MAKE IT HAPPEN SHEETZ. “I Don’t Think Beyoncé Cares About Country Fans” – Gavin Adcock Doubles Down On Critique Of The “Texas Hold ‘Em” Singer

“I Don’t Think Beyoncé Cares About Country Fans” – Gavin Adcock Doubles Down On Critique Of The “Texas Hold ‘Em” Singer

Lately, it seems like everyone has been in Gavin Adcock’s crosshairs. From Zach Bryan and Charley Crockett to Nickelback’s sound guy and most notably, Beyoncé, the “Need To” singer hasn’t let an opportunity to cause some controversy go to waste. After making headlines late Tuesday night, ripping into Crockett on X after the “Jamestown Ferry” singer took aim at the current state of country music, Beyoncé haters and Morgan Wallen, Adcock followed that up Wednesday morning in an interview with Rolling Stone on their Nashville Now podcast. Yesterday, he explained his comments and criticism of the “Something In The Orange” singer. “It wasn’t about not wanting to sign autographs after a show. It’s just letting a 14-year-old kid rant without saying, ‘Get off my d*ick.’ I think Zach Bryan puts on a big mask in his day-to-day life, and sometimes he can’t help but rip it off and show his true colors. I don’t know if Zach Bryan’s really that great of a person.” In the same interview, Adcock was also asked about his now continued criticism of both Beyoncé and her fanbase, and he gave some insight into his mindset surrounding her place in the genre. In case you forgot, he found himself in some hot water back in June when he targeted the “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” singer at a show, saying, “That s*** ain’t country music.” “There’s only three people in front of me on the Apple Music country charts. And one of ’em is Beyoncé. You can tell her we’re coming for her f***ing a**. That s**t ain’t country music and it’s never ever been country music and it will never be country music.” @creightonmarsh1 Does this don’t need a caption@GavinAdcockMusic @Beyoncé ♬ original sound – ️ After receiving a whole lot of backlash, mainly from Beyoncé’s dedicated fanbase, Adcock would then issue a follow-up on Instagram days later, claiming he was a fan of her Super Bowl halftime performance and doubling down on the fact that her music “doesn’t feel country.” “I’m gonna go ahead and clear this up. When  I was little, my mama was blasting a ton of Beyoncé in the car. I heard a ton of Beyoncé songs, and I actually remember her Super Bowl halftime show being pretty kick a** back in the day. But I really don’t believe her album should be labeled as country music. It doesn’t sound country, it doesn’t feel country, and I just don’t think that people who have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and lifestyle should have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top just because she’s Beyoncé.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gavin Adcock (@gavinadcockmusic) In the interview with Rolling Stone, host, Joseph Hudak challenged Adcock, asking him if Beyoncé isn’t country what is? He replied by saying: “It’s the lifestyle. It’s buying into what’s been going on in that genre for a long time and just embracing a town and a group of people. I don’t think Beyoncé cares about country fans. I think she has brought over pop fans to make whatever music she wants to make. I think it’s wrong…” Of course, Luke Bryan made a similar comment about embracing the country music community, which of course got him in hot water too, but there does seem to be a bit of truth to that statement. Post Malone, on the other hand, full ingratiated himself into the country music scene, and was welcomed with open arms. But as far as caring about country fans, Adcock is probably right. She doesn’t. But at the same time, she explicitly said that Cowboy Carter is NOT a country album. Beyonce probably had a great opportunity to showcase black country music in a very meaningful way, if that was even the goal, but never really said all that much about the project at all. The artistry was overshadowed by all the noise to the point where musician Rhiannon Giddens confessed she had “complicated feelings” about participating. Adcock would also criticize her for recently being crowned the highest-grossing country tour of all time: “I saw it last week [she has] the most profitable country tour of all time. I’m like, ‘Just ’cause you threw a cowboy hat on and called your album Cowboy [Carter]… It’s just not country.” It seems for Adcock, it’s not the fact that Beyoncé put out a country album but moreso the fact that she made an album with the intent to profit off the popularity the genre is currently experiencing. “I just feel like it was an invading thing. I feel that she was like, ‘I’m just gonna go over here and do this just so I can piss these people off… Everybody wants to be country nowadays. It’s the cool thing to do right now.” I don’t think specifically set out to “piss off” country fans, but taking a Grammy for Best Country Album after saying Cowboy Carter wasn’t a country album seems to be a pretty expected result. The genre is already full of fans who are angry that traditional country acts don’t get enough love. Hudak would challenge Adcock once again. Citing the fact he enjoyed both Cowboy Carter and David Allan Coe, Hudak asked the 26-year-old singer/songwriter how he feels if fans of the genre also think Beyoncé is country. He’d reply by saying: “I don’t know. I think everybody has an opinion. You have an opinion. I have an opinion. And I don’t fault you for your opinion. I’m gonna voice mine.” Finally, when asked if fans with differing opinions on what is or isn’t country are welcomed to his shows, Adcock said: “Any time. They better get ready for the environment.” Watch the clip and full interview here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rolling Stone (@rollingstone) Watch the full conversation below, it’s a good one: The post “I Don’t Think Beyoncé Cares About Country Fans” – Gavin Adcock Doubles Down On Critique Of The “Texas Hold ‘Em” Singer first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Study Shows That Country Music Has The “Smartest” Lyrics When Stacked Up Against Other Genres

Country music fans that feel superior for their taste in tunes have statistics to back them up. I’m always keeping an eye out for a study that confirms country music’s greatness. It’s not like I need a scientist to tell me that the genre stands above the rest, but it doesn’t hurt to know that actual studies have affirmed the following: –Country music fans are the happiest and typically have better mental health than fans of other music –Sad country songs are as prevalent as ever, and that’s bring joy to the masses -Attending concerts twice a month can make you live longer That last one isn’t reserved to country music concerts, but regardless, it’s a positive for those country fans that take pride in being frequent concert goers. And now, I’ve stumbled upon another study that supports the idea that country music is better than every other genre. Though it’s from a ways back (2015 to be exact), I can’t imagine that the results would change all that much if the study was redone in the modern day. An organization called Seatsmart set out to discover which genre of music is the “smartest,” and analyst Andrew Powell-Morse used a metric called a “Readability Score” to determine which genre’s songs had the most meat on the bone, so to speak. Seatsmart went to the Billboard charts and chose 225 songs that had spent more than three weeks charting. Of the 200-plus songs that were focused in on, four genres emerged: rock, pop, R&B/hip hop and country. Using the Flesch-Kincaid grade index to determine which genre’s lyrics scored the highest average U.S. reading level, Powell-Morse found that word length played an intricate role in a higher lyric intelligence score. Analyst Andrew Powell-Morse stated: “Country music is full of words like Hallelujah, cigarettes, hillbilly, and tackle box. Add to that long place names like Cincinnati, Louisville, Mississippi, and Louisiana, and Country has a serious advantage over the competition.” And ultimately, country music was determined to be the smartest genre since the songs studied scored a 3.3 on average. Pop music and rock & roll came in with a 2.9, and the R&B/hip hop category brought up the rear with 2.6. The only problem? Those numbers equal grade-school-levels, meaning that even though country music scored the highest at 3.3… it still means that listeners only needed to read at a third-grade level to fully understand the content. That being said, the analyst behind the study made sure to point out that the “Readabilty Study” was a tad limited in determining deeper meanings of the tracks. “The study doesn’t touch on the meaning of a song, the metaphors, how the words connect with the artist’s personal story.” Thus it was really just looking at the lyrics at a surface level. And everyone knows that country music is often filled with tons of smart references and tasteful innuendos. So I doubt the results of the study would change dramatically if the tracks were dove into a bit deeper. In conclusion, country music fans are still able to boast that their genre is the smartest. Could this study use an update? Absolutely… but only so we can continue to put country music up on a pedestal. The post Study Shows That Country Music Has The “Smartest” Lyrics When Stacked Up Against Other Genres first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

The Internet Is Obsessed With This Whistling Man’s Wicked Rendition Of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Entire “Free Bird” Solo

Get this man on America’s Got Talent. Earlier this year, I was in awe when I stumbled across a young man’s TikTok page, where he turned classic songs into medieval heaters on his lute. The man takes songs and puts them on a metric to see if they would “go hard at the local pub.” Naturally, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” went very hard at the local pub, with the epic guitar solo translating perfectly onto the lute. @danontheguitar Replying to @Tyler is hot Ngl I really want to go to whatever local tavern I’m making up #freebird #lynyrdskynyrd #lute #fyp ♬ original sound – Hi I’m Dan When I discovered this viral video, I felt like this belonged in a Shrek movie. Imagine a bar fight between Donkey and Shrek as they open a can of whoop a** on their enemy. It would be legendary. Now the internet has discovered the perfect counterpart to the lute-picking machine, and honestly, this version sounds like it belongs in Snow White if they had a scene requiring her to fight crimes with the help of her animal posse. Or instead of singing Snow White the sweet song filled with bird whistles, they could use “Free Bird” to lift her spirits. Let me introduce you to Ralph Whistler, aka the World’s Greatest Whistler. Ralph has quite the following on TikTok and Instagram, sharing his love for music with his followers through his covers of the songs…whistling. Ralph takes rock and country classics and whistles the tune, but it’s not the leisurely whistling that I’m sure many of you are picturing at this moment. This man goes hard. He moves his mouth in a way that allows his whistles to hit every note, and the way his mouth moves also makes it sound like he’s singing the lyrics. Ralph delivered the entire guitar solo of “Free Bird” with his viewers, and it’s sick. From someone who can’t whistle, thinking about whistling for four minutes straight with such an intricate note variation is mind-blowing to me. Ralph is an absolute legend. @ralphwhistleriamFree Bird solo whistled 081325 ♬ original sound – Ralph Whistler Needless to say, the internet lost its mind over this legend. Check out some of my favorite comments. “Free bird but from the bird’s perspective.” “I didn’t expect the WHOLE SOLO.” “Guys, that might be the free bird….” “Ralph Whistler!? As in THIS Ralph Whistler?” “Watching in fascination.” “Jarvis, how is this even possible?” “Birds in this guy’s neighborhood are going absolutely BERSERK right now.” “What an insanely niche and impressive skill.” “I know this guy has confused the hell out of some birds in his time.” “One million birds just lost their mind over this.” “I’m gonna ask my deaf cousin to lip-read this for me.” “Karaoke night hates to see you coming.” “Dude. I love old school folks with hidden talents.” “This might be the best bar trick of all time.” “The birds outside my window when I’m trying to sleep in on weekends.” “I think this would have gotten you on the Ellen show.” What are the odds of getting a lute player and Ralph Whistler collaboration? That’s something I’d pay money to have happen. The post The Internet Is Obsessed With This Whistling Man’s Wicked Rendition Of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Entire “Free Bird” Solo first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
