Miyares Blasts Jones After Debate: ‘Wouldn’t Pass Background Check’ To Be ‘Line Prosecutor’

After Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares squared off against Jay Jones on the debate stage Thursday, Miyares appeared on Fox News to blast his Democrat opponent. “If Jay Jones was applying to be a line prosecutor in my attorney general’s office — in fact, any attorney general’s office in all 50 states — he wouldn’t pass the background check for the job,” Miyares said on America Reports. During Thursday’s debate, Miyares repeatedly brought up text messages that Jones sent in 2022 in which he wished death on former Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Todd Gilbert, said Gilbert and his wife were “breeding little fascists,” and claimed he would like to “piss” on Republican graves, among other horrifying statements. “I’m ashamed, I’m embarrassed, and I’m sorry,” Jones said on the debate stage — to which Miyares responded that if he were truly sorry, he would not be running for attorney general. Miyares also brought up the fact that in 2022, Jones was convicted of reckless driving for going 116 mph in a 70 mph zone — but essentially walked for it. “There were four people in court that day, all going around the same speed,” Miyares said on Fox News. “Three of those four people got active or suspended jail time. The only person that didn’t was Jay Jones because he’s a politician, and then he did the community service hours…for his own political action committee, which obviously isn’t a charity.” Join us now during our exclusive Deal of the Decade. According to data reviewed by 7News, Jones appears to have been handled with kid gloves by the court system in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and others who committed similar infractions have faced much steeper consequences. Reporter Nick Minock found that others who were convicted of similar speeding infractions — in approximately a dozen cases — often faced jail time in addition to fines and suspended licenses. The text scandal appears to have moved the needle significantly in the race for Virginia attorney general. In polls from June to late September, Jones was leading Miyares consistently, but after the scandal broke, polling has shifted with Miyares now 0.3% ahead of Jones, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger has also come under pressure due to the fallout from the texts. Her opponent, Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, released a scathing ad featuring Spanberger refusing to comment when confronted with Jones’ remarks. Virginia Kruta contributed to this report.

New Way of Supercharging Prostate Cancer Treatments Can Weaken Tumors at Cellular Level

Prostate cancer treatment could be “supercharged” by a new way of weakening malignant cells, say scientists. A new “vulnerability” in prostate cancer cells that could improve treatment for the second most common cancer in men worldwide (second only to skin cancer) was discovered by an international team of researchers. They found that two enzymes – […] The post New Way of Supercharging Prostate Cancer Treatments Can Weaken Tumors at Cellular Level appeared first on Good News Network.

The 4 Most Off-the-Rails Shutdown Moments So Far

As the fourth week of the government shutdown approaches, little has changed in terms of getting Democrats on board with a short-term funding extension. But Capitol Hill has been far from dull, with shouting matches between members and top congressional leaders throwing up their hands in frustration. Here are the most off-the-rails moments of the shutdown so far. The Big Apple Battle When House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., left his Democrat leadership press conference, Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., was waiting in the hallway. The two quickly jumped into a face-to-face war of words, with Lawler accusing Jeffries of being hypocritical for demanding the extension of COVID-19-era health care tax credits before the government reopens but not supporting a Republican-backed bill to extend them. Another hallway confrontation between House lawmakers — Mike Lawler demanding Hakeem Jeffries sign onto a bipartisan bill temporarily extending enhanced ACA credits“You’re embarrassing yourself,” Jeffries kept repeating pic.twitter.com/seGKlcMRiF— Liz Elkind (@liz_elkind) October 8, 2025 Jeffries repeatedly called Lawler an “embarrassment,” while Lawler put Jeffries on blast for voting against funding the government and refusing to take a side in the New York City mayoral race, where the controversial New York state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani is a front-runner. Dems Storm Johnson’s Office In a bizarre moment, House Democrats marched through the Capitol Rotunda to the office of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., who was not there at the time.  The Democrats were protesting the fact that Johnson, who has kept the House out of session, has not yet sworn in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, D-Ariz., who won a special election in her late father’s district in September.  BREAKING: Congressional Democrats marched to Mike Johnson's office to demand right to his face he swear in a Democrat representative-elect. pic.twitter.com/TsdG8FupJe— Spencer Hakimian (@SpencerHakimian) October 15, 2025 Rep. Nanette Barragan, D-Calif., was the first to enter Johnson’s office, knocking down a poster and then proceeding to yell at a Capitol police officer guarding Johnson’s office. Barragan told a reporter that the officer “grabbed” her. Johnson said that the stunt “shows, again, [Democrats’] disdain for law enforcement, as we see all around the country… and it shows their desperation.” ‘Mad Mike’ It seems the partisan gridlock is upsetting the speaker of the House. Speaking on Democrats’ refusal to pass the short-term funding bill to reopen the government, Johnson said, “I don’t like being mad Mike, I want to be happy Mike.”  ? JUST NOW: Speaker Johnson is visibly FURIOUS on Day 16 of the Democrats' shutdown"I don't LIKE being mad Mike. I am so UPSET about this!""We should STOP HOLDING – I get very upset about this – the American people HOSTAGE for these RIDICULOUS political games.""We should… pic.twitter.com/0QXwqzDoOP— Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) October 16, 2025 He added, “I want to be the happy warrior, but I am so upset about this. God bless America,” before leaving the lectern. The Arizona Standoff Arizona Democrat Sens. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego went over to Johnson’s office to hold a press conference demanding he swear in Grijalva, the Rep.-elect. Then Johnson himself came out. What ensued was a made-for-television moment, as Johnson took the senators to task, demanding that they reopen the government. Lawler was also present and told Kelly, “With all due respect, you voted multiple times to keep the government shut down. The Republican members from Arizona voted to keep the government open. So don’t sit here and try to lecture us about whether we did our job. We did our job, you did not.” Sen. Kelly and Sen. Gallego confront Mike Johnson about the GOP shutdown:"Why don't you bring back your Republican members so we can have a serious negotiation?" pic.twitter.com/MndySesnMc— Spencer Hakimian (@SpencerHakimian) October 8, 2025 Gallego raised the temperature in the room, telling Johnson to his face to “stop covering up for the pedophiles.” Grijalva, if sworn in, would likely be the 218th signature on a petition that would force the consideration of a bill to compel the executive branch to release files on the now-deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Johnson has opposed the petition, saying it both fails to provide valuable information on Epstein’s bank records and fails to protect undercover agents and Epstein’s victims. Johnson smiled at Gallego, saying, “That’s ridiculous.” Lawler had Johnson’s back, telling Gallego, “You’re absolutely absurd.” Johnson brought the shouting match to a close, looking to the cameras and saying, “I’m going to get back to work. These gentlemen had a publicity stunt here. You see the issue, they need to go and vote to reopen the government, plain and simple.” Gallego has since continued to insult Johnson, calling him a “f—— liar” and a “little creep” online, as well as saying Johnson “should be happy I had my arms folded,” since “it’s a way [for marines] to make sure we restrain ourselves.” The post The 4 Most Off-the-Rails Shutdown Moments So Far appeared first on The Daily Signal.

NBC Does Damage Control For 'No Kings' By Covering Up Anti-American Speakers

Saturday’s No Kings rallies will be populated by several people who ordinary people, not just President Trump’s supporters, would find detestable. However, NBC correspondent Adrienne Broaddus made it her job on Saturday’s Today to ensure viewers would not be aware of them. Instead, she went to great lengths to portray Speaker Mike Johnson’s “hate-America rally” description as incorrect. Broaddus teed up a clip of organizer Kathy Tholin by declaring, “Now, all of this is happening as people are expected to march through the streets of Chicago, rain or shine, today. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson called it a “planned America rally,” but organizers who spoke with me say this is their way to protest what they call government overreach.”     Fact-check: Johnson was talking about the D.C. rally, not the Chicago one. One of the speakers at the D.C. event is Afeni Evans, a Hamas apologist who downplayed the Charlie Kirk assassination and warned fellow leftists to avoid posting about the Trump assassination attempt online, not because she was horrified Trump was almost killed, but because she was warning about potential consequences for people who would post what they really felt. Evans, who will share the stage with Sens. Chris Murphy and Bernie Sanders, has also referred to America in 2023 as “Amerikkka.” Meanwhile, other cities will be inundated with similarly anti-Israel and socialist contingents. As it was, Tholin claimed, “ICE is occupying our city. They are attacking our neighbors with tear gas, they are indiscriminately snatching people from streets and businesses and homes, and we are coming together on No Kings Day to say, no, this is not the city we want to live in.” The radical suggestion that ICE operating in Chicago is tantamount to occupation aside, Broaddus concluded by hyping, “Thousands are expected to participate in the rallies across the country with one organizer saying the number of people signed up is more than double of what they saw in June.” If two Republican senators shared the stage with a speaker who cheered liberals getting shot or promoted a terrorist organization, NBC would have done a very different segment. Here is a transcript for the October 18 show: NBC Today 10/18/2025 7:08 PM ET ADRIENNE BROADDUS: Now, all of this is happening as people are expected to march through the streets of Chicago, rain or shine, today. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson called it a “planned America rally,” but organizers who spoke with me say this is their way to protest what they call government overreach. Take a listen. KATHY THOLIN: ICE is occupying our city. They are attacking our neighbors with tear gas, they are indiscriminately snatching people from streets and businesses and homes, and we are coming together on No Kings Day to say, no, this is not the city we want to live in. BROADDUS: And thousands are expected to participate in the rallies across the country with one organizer saying the number of people signed up is more than double of what they saw in June. Laura?
